In this paper we generalize the exponential family (EF) of distributions into a wider family which includes important distributions such as the normal, log-normal, Student-t, Cauchy, logistic and Birnbaum–Saunders distributions. Furthermore, we derive several characteristics of the proposed family. The importance of such family is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper proposes a bivariate version of the univariate discrete generalized geometric distribution considered by Gómez–Déniz (2010 Gómez–Déniz, E. (2010). Another generalization of the geometric distribution. Test 19:399415.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). The proposed bivariate distribution can have a positive or negative correlation coefficient which can be used for modeling bivariate-dependent count data. After discussing some of its properties, maximum likelihood estimation is discussed. Two illustrative examples are given for fitting and demonstrating the usefulness of the new bivariate distribution proposed here.  相似文献

Skew-normal/independent distributions are a class of asymmetric thick-tailed distributions that include the skew-normal distribution as a special case. In this paper, we explore the use of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods to develop a Bayesian analysis in multivariate measurement errors models. We propose the use of skew-normal/independent distributions to model the unobserved value of the covariates (latent variable) and symmetric normal/independent distributions for the random errors term, providing an appealing robust alternative to the usual symmetric process in multivariate measurement errors models. Among the distributions that belong to this class of distributions, we examine univariate and multivariate versions of the skew-normal, skew-t, skew-slash and skew-contaminated normal distributions. The results and methods are applied to a real data set.  相似文献

The skew-normal and the skew-t distributions are parametric families which are currently under intense investigation since they provide a more flexible formulation compared to the classical normal and t distributions by introducing a parameter which regulates their skewness. While these families enjoy attractive formal properties from the probability viewpoint, a practical problem with their usage in applications is the possibility that the maximum likelihood estimate of the parameter which regulates skewness diverges. This situation has vanishing probability for increasing sample size, but for finite samples it occurs with non-negligible probability, and its occurrence has unpleasant effects on the inferential process. Methods for overcoming this problem have been put forward both in the classical and in the Bayesian formulation, but their applicability is restricted to simple situations. We formulate a proposal based on the idea of penalized likelihood, which has connections with some of the existing methods, but it applies more generally, including the multivariate case.  相似文献

This article presents a review and comparison of the most important expanded families of distributions. We set the essential requirements by which an expanding family can fit any dataset successfully. A new method is proposed to construct families, which fulfill these essential requirements. Consequently, two families are suggested, which are more tractable than many other known families and possess very wide range of the indices of skewness and kurtosis. The article is motivated by two applications to real dataset.  相似文献

In practice, a financial or actuarial data set may be a skewed or heavy-tailed and this motivates us to study a class of distribution functions in risk management theory that provide more information about these characteristics resulting in a more accurate risk analysis. In this paper, we consider a multivariate tail conditional expectation (MTCE) for multivariate scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions. This class of distributions contains skewed distributions and some members of this class can be used to analyse heavy-tailed data sets. We also provide a closed form for TCE in a univariate skew-normal distribution framework. Numerical examples are also provided for illustration.  相似文献

Grouped data are frequently used in several fields of study. In this work, we use the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for fitting the skew-normal (SN) mixture model to the grouped data. Implementing the EM algorithm requires computing the one-dimensional integrals for each group or class. Our simulation study and real data analyses reveal that the EM algorithm not only always converges but also can be implemented in just a few seconds even when the number of components is large, contrary to the Bayesian paradigm that is computationally expensive. The accuracy of the EM algorithm and superiority of the SN mixture model over the traditional normal mixture model in modelling grouped data are demonstrated through the simulation and three real data illustrations. For implementing the EM algorithm, we use the package called ForestFit developed for R environment available at https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/ForestFit/index.html.  相似文献

We introduce a new family of distributions by adding a parameter to the Marshall–Olkin family of distributions. Some properties of the new family of distributions are derived. A particular case of the family, a three-parameter generalization of the exponential distribution, is given special attention. The shape properties, moments, distributions of the order statistics, entropies and estimation procedures are derived. An application to a real data set is discussed.  相似文献

The robust estimation and the local influence analysis for linear regression models with scale mixtures of multivariate skew-normal distributions have been developed in this article. The main virtue of considering the linear regression model under the class of scale mixtures of skew-normal distributions is that they have a nice hierarchical representation which allows an easy implementation of inference. Inspired by the expectation maximization algorithm, we have developed a local influence analysis based on the conditional expectation of the complete-data log-likelihood function, which is a measurement invariant under reparametrizations. This is because the observed data log-likelihood function associated with the proposed model is somewhat complex and with Cook's well-known approach it can be very difficult to obtain measures of the local influence. Some useful perturbation schemes are discussed. In order to examine the robust aspect of this flexible class against outlying and influential observations, some simulation studies have also been presented. Finally, a real data set has been analyzed, illustrating the usefulness of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

The paper revisits the concept of a power series distribution by defining its series function, its power parameter, and hence its probability generating function. Realization that the series function for a particular distribution is a special case of a recognized mathematical function enables distributions to be classified into families. Examples are the generalized hypergeometric family and the q-series family, both of which contain generalizations of the geometric distribution. The Lerch function (a third generalization of the geometric series) is the series function for the Lerch family. A list of distributions belonging to the Lerch family is provided.  相似文献

In this article the probability generating functions of the extended Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern family for discrete distributions are derived. Using the probability generating function approach various properties are examined, the expressions for probabilities, moments, and the form of the conditional distributions are obtained. Bivariate version of the geometric and Poisson distributions are used as illustrative examples. Their covariance structure and estimation of parameters for a data set are briefly discussed. A new copula is also introduced.  相似文献

In many studies, the data collected are subject to some upper and lower detection limits. Hence, the responses are either left or right censored. A complication arises when these continuous measures present heavy tails and asymmetrical behavior; simultaneously. For such data structures, we propose a robust-censored linear model based on the scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions. The SMSN is an attractive class of asymmetrical heavy-tailed densities that includes the skew-normal, skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal and the entire family of scale mixtures of normal (SMN) distributions as special cases. We propose a fast estimation procedure to obtain the maximum likelihood (ML) estimates of the parameters, using a stochastic approximation of the EM (SAEM) algorithm. This approach allows us to estimate the parameters of interest easily and quickly, obtaining as a byproducts the standard errors, predictions of unobservable values of the response and the log-likelihood function. The proposed methods are illustrated through real data applications and several simulation studies.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish the role of concomitants of order statistics in the unique identification of the parent bivariate distribution. From the results developed, we have illustrated by examples the process of determination of the parent bivariate distribution using a marginal pdf and the pdf of either of the concomitant of largest or smallest order statistic on the other variable. An application of the results derived in modeling of a bivariate distribution for data sets drawn from a population as well is discussed.  相似文献

We propose a new flexible generalized family (NFGF) for constructing many families of distributions. The importance of the NFGF is that any baseline distribution can be chosen and it does not involve any additional parameters. Some useful statistical properties of the NFGF are determined such as a linear representation for the family density, analytical shapes of the density and hazard rate, random variable generation, moments and generating function. Further, the structural properties of a special model named the new flexible Kumaraswamy (NFKw) distribution, are investigated, and the model parameters are estimated by maximum-likelihood method. A simulation study is carried out to assess the performance of the estimates. The usefulness of the NFKw model is proved empirically by means of three real-life data sets. In fact, the two-parameter NFKw model performs better than three-parameter transmuted-Kumaraswamy, three-parameter exponentiated-Kumaraswamy and the well-known two-parameter Kumaraswamy models.  相似文献

A new method for generating new classes of distributions based on the probability-generating function is presented in Aly and Benkherouf [A new family of distributions based on probability generating functions. Sankhya B. 2011;73:70–80]. In particular, they focused their interest to the so-called Harris extended family of distributions. In this paper, we provide several general results regarding the Harris extended models such as the general behaviour of the failure rate function. We also derive a very useful representation for the Harris extended density function as an absolutely convergent power series of the survival function of the baseline distribution. Additionally, some stochastic order relations are established and limiting distributions of sample extremes are also considered for this model. These general results are illustrated in several special Harris extended models. Finally, we discuss estimation of the model parameters by the method of maximum likelihood and provide an application to real data for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to develop diagnostics analysis for nonlinear regression models (NLMs) under scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions introduced by Garay et al. [Nonlinear regression models based on SMSN distributions. J. Korean Statist. Soc. 2011;40:115–124]. This novel class of models provides a useful generalization of the symmetrical NLM [Vanegas LH, Cysneiros FJA. Assessment of diagnostic procedures in symmetrical nonlinear regression models. Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 2010;54:1002–1016] since the random terms distributions cover both symmetric as well as asymmetric and heavy-tailed distributions such as the skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal distributions, among others. Motivated by the results given in Garay et al. [Nonlinear regression models based on SMSN distributions. J. Korean Statist. Soc. 2011;40:115–124], we presented a score test for testing the homogeneity of the scale parameter and its properties are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations studies. Furthermore, local influence measures and the one-step approximations of the estimates in the case-deletion model are obtained. The newly developed procedures are illustrated considering a real data set.  相似文献

An extension of some standard likelihood based procedures to heteroscedastic nonlinear regression models under scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions is developed. This novel class of models provides a useful generalization of the heteroscedastic symmetrical nonlinear regression models (Cysneiros et al., 2010), since the random term distributions cover both symmetric as well as asymmetric and heavy-tailed distributions such as skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal, among others. A simple EM-type algorithm for iteratively computing maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters is presented and the observed information matrix is derived analytically. In order to examine the performance of the proposed methods, some simulation studies are presented to show the robust aspect of this flexible class against outlying and influential observations and that the maximum likelihood estimates based on the EM-type algorithm do provide good asymptotic properties. Furthermore, local influence measures and the one-step approximations of the estimates in the case-deletion model are obtained. Finally, an illustration of the methodology is given considering a data set previously analyzed under the homoscedastic skew-t nonlinear regression model.  相似文献

Motivated by series-parallel-series systems, we introduce a new generator of continuous distributions with three extra parameters called the generalized exponentiated class of distributions. We study its mathematical properties and introduce a bivariate extension of the class. We discuss the estimation of its parameters by maximum likelihood and illustrate the potentiality of the class by applications to two real datasets.  相似文献

In this paper, a family of copulas with two parameters is proposed and its dependence analysis is performed. The corresponding family of bivariate distributions with specified marginals is constructed. For normal marginals, the new distributions are non-elliptical and can be applied in data analysis. They provide various alternative hypotheses for testing normality. Finally, an example is given.  相似文献

Finite mixtures of distributions have been getting increasing use in the applied literature. In the continuous case, linear combinations of exponentials and gammas have been shown to be well suited for modeling purposes. In the discrete case, the focus has primarily been on continuous mixing, usually of Poisson distributions and typically using gammas to describe the random parameter, But many of these applications are forced, especially when a continuous mixing distribution is used. Instead, it is often prefe-rable to try finite mixtures of geometries or negative binomials, since these are the fundamental building blocks of all discrete random variables. To date, a major stumbling block to their use has been the lack of easy routines for estimating the parameters of such models. This problem has now been alleviated by the adaptation to the discrete case of numerical procedures recently developed for exponential, Weibull, and gamma mixtures. The new methods have been applied to four previously studied data sets, and significant improvements reported in goodness-of-fit, with resultant implications for each affected study.  相似文献
