A supersaturated design (SSD) is a design whose run size is not enough for estimating all the main effects. The goal in conducting such a design is to identify, presumably only a few, relatively dominant active effects with a cost as low as possible. However, data analysis of such designs remains primitive: traditional approaches are not appropriate in such a situation and several methods which were proposed in the literature in recent years are effective when used to analyze two-level SSDs. In this paper, we introduce a variable selection procedure, called the PLSVS method, to screen active effects in mixed-level SSDs based on the variable importance in projection which is an important concept in the partial least-squares regression. Simulation studies show that this procedure is effective.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) constitute a large class of fractional factorial designs which can be used for screening out the important factors from a large set of potentially active ones. A major advantage of these designs is that they reduce the experimental cost dramatically, but their crucial disadvantage is the confounding involved in the statistical analysis. Identification of active effects in SSDs has been the subject of much recent study. In this article we present a two-stage procedure for analyzing two-level SSDs assuming a main-effect only model, without including any interaction terms. This method combines sure independence screening (SIS) with different penalty functions; such as Smoothly Clipped Absolute Deviation (SCAD), Lasso and MC penalty achieving both the down-selection and the estimation of the significant effects, simultaneously. Insights on using the proposed methodology are provided through various simulation scenarios and several comparisons with existing approaches, such as stepwise in combination with SCAD and Dantzig Selector (DS) are presented as well. Results of the numerical study and real data analysis reveal that the proposed procedure can be considered as an advantageous tool due to its extremely good performance for identifying active factors.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) are factorial designs in which the number of experimental runs is smaller than the number of parameters to be estimated in the model. While most of the literature on SSDs has focused on balanced designs, the construction and analysis of unbalanced designs has not been developed to a great extent. Recent studies discuss the possible advantages of relaxing the balance requirement in construction or data analysis of SSDs, and that unbalanced designs compare favorably to balanced designs for several optimality criteria and for the way in which the data are analyzed. Moreover, the effect analysis framework of unbalanced SSDs until now is restricted to the central assumption that experimental data come from a linear model. In this article, we consider unbalanced SSDs for data analysis under the assumption of generalized linear models (GLMs), revealing that unbalanced SSDs perform well despite the unbalance property. The examination of Type I and Type II error rates through an extensive simulation study indicates that the proposed method works satisfactorily.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) are defined as fractional factorial designs whose experimental run size is smaller than the number of main effects to be estimated. While most of the literature on SSDs has focused only on main effects designs, the construction and analysis of such designs involving interactions has not been developed to a great extent. In this paper, we propose a backward elimination design-driven optimization (BEDDO) method, with one main goal in mind, to eliminate the factors which are identified to be fully aliased or highly partially aliased with each other in the design. Under the proposed BEDDO method, we implement and combine correlation-based statistical measures taken from classical test theory and design of experiments field, and we also present an optimality criterion which is a modified form of Cronbach's alpha coefficient. In this way, we provide a new class of computer-aided unbalanced SSDs involving interactions, that derive directly from BEDDO optimization.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) are useful in examining many factors with a restricted number of experimental units. Many analysis methods have been proposed to analyse data from SSDs, with some methods performing better than others when data are normally distributed. It is possible that data sets violate assumptions of standard analysis methods used to analyse data from SSDs, and to date the performance of these analysis methods have not been evaluated using nonnormally distributed data sets. We conducted a simulation study with normally and nonnormally distributed data sets to compare the identification rates, power and coverage of the true models using a permutation test, the stepwise procedure and the smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) method. Results showed that at the level of significance α=0.01, the identification rates of the true models of the three methods were comparable; however at α=0.05, both the permutation test and stepwise procedures had considerably lower identification rates than SCAD. For most cases, the three methods produced high power and coverage. The experimentwise error rates (EER) were close to the nominal level (11.36%) for the stepwise method, while they were somewhat higher for the permutation test. The EER for the SCAD method were extremely high (84–87%) for the normal and t-distributions, as well as for data with outlier.  相似文献

Inspired by the ideas of column and row juxtaposition in Liu and Lin (2009) and level transformation in Yamada and Lin (1999), this paper presents a new method for constructing optimal supersaturated designs (SSDs). This method provides a convenient way to construct mixed-level designs with relatively large numbers of levels, avoiding the blind search and numerous calculations by computers. The goodness of the resulting SSDs is judged by the χ2 (Yamada and Lin, 1999 and Yamada and Matsui, 2002) and J2 (Xu, 2002) criteria. Some nice properties of the new designs are also provided.  相似文献

The analysis of designs based on saturated orthogonal arrays poses a very difficult challenge since there are no degrees of freedom left to estimate the error variance. In this paper we propose a heuristic approach for the use of cumulative sum control chart for screening active effects in orthogonal-saturated experiments. A comparative simulation study establishes the powerfulness of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the problem of simultaneously monitoring the process mean and process variability of continuous production processes using combined Shewhart-cumulative score (cuscore) quality control procedures developed by Ncube and Woodall (1984). Two methods of approach are developed and their properties are investigated. One method uses two separate Shewhart-cuscore control charts, one for determining shifts in the process mean and the other for detecting shifts in process variability. The other method uses a single combined statistic which is sensitive to shifts in both the mean and the variance. Each procedure is compared to the corresponding Shewhart schemes. It will be shown by average run length calculations that the proposed Shewhart- cuscore schemes are considerably more efficient than the comparative Shewhart procedures for certain shifts in the process mean and process variability for the case when the underlying process control variable is assumed to be normally distributed.  相似文献

A supersaturated design (SSD) is a factorial design in which the degrees of freedom for all its main effects exceed the total number of distinct factorial level-combinations (runs) of the design. Designs with quantitative factors, in which level permutation within one or more factors could result in different geometrical structures, are very different from designs with nominal ones which have been treated as traditional designs. In this paper, a new criterion is proposed for SSDs with quantitative factors. Comparison and analysis for this new criterion are made. It is shown that the proposed criterion has a high efficiency in discriminating geometrically nonisomorphic designs and an advantage in computation.  相似文献

In this paper, a new test method for analyzing unreplicated factorial designs is proposed. The proposed method is illustrated by some examples. An extensive simulation with the standard 16-run designs was carried out to compare the proposed method with three another existing methods. Besides the usual power criterion, another three versions of power, Power I–III, were also used to evaluate the performance of the compared methods. The simulation study shows that the proposed method has higher ability than the remaining three compared methods to identify all active effects without misidentifying any inactive effects as active.  相似文献

The use of general linear modeling (GLM) procedures based on log-rank scores is proposed for the analysis of survival data and compared to standard survival analysis procedures. For the comparison of two groups, this approach performed similarly to the traditional log-rank test. In the case of more complicated designs - without ties in the survival times - the approach was only marginally less powerful than tests from proportional hazards models, and clearly less powerful than a likelihood ratio test for a fully parametric model; however, with ties in the survival time, the approach proved more powerful than tests from Cox's semi-parametric proportional hazards procedure. The method appears to provide a reasonably powerful alternative for the analysis of survival data, is easily used in complicated study designs, avoids (semi-)parametric assumptions, and is quite computationally easy and inexpensive to employ.  相似文献

Many phase I drug combination designs have been proposed to find the maximum tolerated combination (MTC). Due to the two‐dimension nature of drug combination trials, these designs typically require complicated statistical modeling and estimation, which limit their use in practice. In this article, we propose an easy‐to‐implement Bayesian phase I combination design, called Bayesian adaptive linearization method (BALM), to simplify the dose finding for drug combination trials. BALM takes the dimension reduction approach. It selects a subset of combinations, through a procedure called linearization, to convert the two‐dimensional dose matrix into a string of combinations that are fully ordered in toxicity. As a result, existing single‐agent dose‐finding methods can be directly used to find the MTC. In case that the selected linear path does not contain the MTC, a dose‐insertion procedure is performed to add new doses whose expected toxicity rate is equal to the target toxicity rate. Our simulation studies show that the proposed BALM design performs better than competing, more complicated combination designs.  相似文献

Supersaturated designs (SSDs) offer a potentially useful way to investigate many factors with only few experiments in the preliminary stages of experimentation. This paper explores how to construct E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal mixed-level SSDs using k-cyclic generators. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of mixed-level k-circulant SSDs with the equal occurrence property are provided. Properties of the mixed-level k  -circulant SSDs are investigated, in particular, the sufficient condition under which the generator vector produces an E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal SSD is obtained. Moreover, many new E(fNOD)E(fNOD)-optimal mixed-level SSDs are constructed and listed. The method here generalizes the one proposed by Liu and Dean [2004. kk-circulant supersaturated designs. Technometrics 46, 32–43] for two-level SSDs and the one due to Georgiou and Koukouvinos [2006. Multi-level k-circulant supersaturated designs. Metrika 64, 209–220] for the multi-level case.  相似文献

The presence of block effects makes the optimal selection of fractional factorial designs a difficult task. The existing frequentist methods try to combine treatment and block wordlength patterns and apply minimum aberration criterion to find the optimal design. However, ambiguities exist in combining the two wordlength patterns and therefore, the optimality of such designs can be challenged. Here we propose a Bayesian approach to overcome this problem. The main technique is to postulate a model and a prior distribution to satisfy the common assumptions in blocking and then, to develop an optimal design criterion for the efficient estimation of treatment effects. We apply our method to develop regular, nonregular, and mixed-level blocked designs. Several examples are presented to illustrate the advantages of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, we focus on the problem of factor screening in nonregular two-level designs through gradually reducing the number of possible sets of active factors. We are particularly concerned with situations when three or four factors are active. Our proposed method works through examining fits of projection models, where variable selection techniques are used to reduce the number of terms. To examine the reliability of the methods in combination with such techniques, a panel of models consisting of three or four active factors with data generated from the 12-run and the 20-run Plackett–Burman (PB) design is used. The dependence of the procedure on the amount of noise, the number of active factors and the number of experimental factors is also investigated. For designs with few runs such as the 12-run PB design, variable selection should be done with care and default procedures in computer software may not be reliable to which we suggest improvements. A real example is included to show how we propose factor screening can be done in practice.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to introduce a new class of extended E(s2)-optimal two level supersaturated designs obtained by adding runs to an existing E(s2)-optimal two level supersaturated design. The extended design is a union of two optimal SSDs belonging to different classes. New lower bound to E(s2) has been obtained for the extended supersaturated designs. Some examples and a small catalogue of E(s2)-optimal SSDs are also included.  相似文献

Suppose there are k(>= 2) treatments and each treatment is a Bernoulli process with binomial sampling. The problem of selecting a random-sized subset which contains the treatment with the largest survival probability (reliability or probability of success) is considered. Based on the ideas from both classical approaches and general Bayesian statistical decision approach, a new subset selection procedure is proposed to solve this kind of problem in both balanced and unbalanced designs. Comparing with the classical procedures, the proposed procedure has a significantly smaller selected subset. The optimal properties and performance of it were examined. The methods of selecting and fitting the priors and the results of Monte Carlo simulations on selected important cases are also studied.  相似文献

The economic and statistical merits of a multiple variable sampling intervals scheme are studied. The problem is formulated as a double-objective optimization problem with the adjusted average time to signal as the statistical objective and the expected cost per hour as the economic objective. Bai and Lee's [An economic design of variable sampling interval ¯X control charts. Int J Prod Econ. 1998;54:57–64] economic model is considered. Then we find the Pareto-optimal designs in which the two objectives are minimized simultaneously by using the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm. Through an illustrative example, the advantages of the proposed approach are shown by providing a list of viable optimal solutions and graphical representations, which indicate the advantage of flexibility and adaptability of our approach.  相似文献

We propose a novel, efficient approach for obtaining high-quality experimental designs for event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (ER-fMRI), a popular brain mapping technique. Our proposed approach combines a greedy hill-climbing algorithm and a cyclic permutation method. When searching for optimal ER-fMRI designs, the proposed approach focuses only on a promising restricted class of designs with equal frequency of occurrence across stimulus types. The computational time is significantly reduced. We demonstrate that our proposed approach is very efficient compared with a recently proposed genetic algorithm approach. We also apply our approach in obtaining designs that are robust against misspecification of error correlations.  相似文献

Four approximate methods are proposed to construct confidence intervals for the estimation of variance components in unbalanced mixed models. The first three methods are modifications of the Wald, arithmetic and harmonic mean procedures, see Harville and Fenech (1985), while the fourth is an adaptive approach, combining the arithmetic and harmonic mean procedures. The performances of the proposed methods were assessed by a Monte Carlo simulation study. It was found that the intervals based on Wald's method maintained the nominal confidence levels across all designs and values of the parameters under study. On the other hand, the arithmetic (harmonic) mean method performed well for small (large) values of the variance component, relative to the error variance component. The adaptive procedure performed rather well except for extremely unbalanced designs. Further, compared with equal tails intervals, the intervals which use special tables, e.g., Table 678 of Tate and Klett (1959), provided adequate coverage while having much shorter lengths and are thus recommended for use in practice.  相似文献
