In this paper, order statistics from independent and non identically distributed random variables is used to obtain ordered ranked set sampling (ORSS). Bayesian inference of unknown parameters under a squared error loss function of the Pareto distribution is determined. We compute the minimum posterior expected loss (the posterior risk) of the derived estimates and compare them with those based on the corresponding simple random sample (SRS) to assess the efficiency of the obtained estimates. Two-sample Bayesian prediction for future observations is introduced by using SRS and ORSS for one- and m-cycle. A simulation study and real data are applied to show the proposed results.  相似文献

In this paper, double robust extreme ranked set sampling (DRERSS) and its properties for estimating the population mean are considered. It turns out that, when the underlying distribution is symmetric, DRERSS gives unbiased estimators of the population mean. Also, it is found that DRERSS is more efficient than the simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS), and extreme ranked set sampling (ERSS) methods. For asymmetric distributions considered in this study, the DRERSS has a small bias and it is more efficient than SRS, RSS, and ERSS. A real data set is used to illustrate the DRERSS method.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider two-sample prediction problems. First, based on ordered ranked set sampling (ORSS) introduced by Balakrishnan and Li [Ordered ranked set samples and applications to inference. Ann Inst Statist Math. 2006;58:757–777], we obtain prediction intervals for order statistics from a future sample and compare the results with the one based on the usual-order statistics. Next, we construct prediction intervals for record values from a future sequence based on ORSS and compare the results with the one based on an another independent record sequence developed recently by Ahmadi and Balakrishnan [Prediction of order statistics and record values from two independent sequences. Ranked set sampling (RSS) is an advanced sampling method which is very effective for estimating mean of the population when exact measurement of observation is difficult and/or expensive. Balanced Groups RSS (BGRSS) is one of the modification of RSS where only the lowest, the median and the largest ranked units are taken into account. Although BGRSS is advantageous and useful for some specific cases, it has strict restrictions regarding the set size which could be problematic for sampling plans. In this study, we make an improvement on BGRSS and propose a new design called Partial Groups RSS which offers a more flexible sampling plan providing the independence of the set size and sample size. Partial Groups RSS also has a cost advantage over BGRSS. We construct a Monte Carlo simulation study comparing the performance of the mean estimators of the proposed sampling design and BGRSS according to their sampling costs and mean squared errors for various type of distributions. In addition, we give a biometric data application for investigating the efficiency of Partial Groups RSS in real life applications.  相似文献

In this paper, a new sampling method is suggested, namely truncation-based ranked set samples (TBRSS) for estimating the population mean and median. The suggested method is compared with the simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS), extreme ranked set sampling (ERSS) and median-ranked set sampling (MRSS) methods. It is shown that for estimating the population mean when the underlying distribution is symmetric, TBRSS estimator is unbiased and it is more efficient than the SRS estimator based on the same number of measured units. For asymmetric distributions considered in this study, TBRSS estimator is more efficient than the SRS for all considered distributions except for exponential distribution when the selection coefficient gets large. When compared with ERSS and MRSS methods, TBRSS performs well with respect to ERSS for all considered distributions except for U(0, 1) distribution, while TBRSS efficiency is higher than that of MRSS for U(0, 1) distribution. For estimating the population median, the TBRSS estimators have higher efficiencies when compared with SRS and ERSS. A real data set is used to illustrate the suggested method.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the median ranked set sampling estimation and test of hypothesis for the mean for symmetric distributions. We suggest some alternative estimation strategies for parameters based on shrinkage and pretest principles. It is advantageous to use the non-sample information in the estimation process to construct alternative estimations for the parameter of interest. In this article, large sample properties of the suggested estimators will be assessed numerically using computer simulation. The relative performance of the suggested estimators for moderate and large samples will also be simulated. For illustration purposes, the proposed methodology is applied using data collocated from the Pepsi Cola production company in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of estimating the reliability of an exponential component based on a Ranked Set Sample (RSS) of size n. Given the first r observations of that sample, 1≤r≤n, we construct an unbiased estimator for this reliability and we show that these n unbiased estimators are the only ones in a certain class of estimators. The variances of some of these estimators are compared. By viewing the observations of the RSS of size n as the lifetimes of n independent k-out-of-n systems, 1≤k≤n, we are able to utilize known properties of these systems in conjunction with the powerful tools of majorization and Schur functions to derive our results.  相似文献

Recently, a hybrid ranked set sampling (HRSS) scheme has been proposed in the literature. The HRSS scheme encompasses several existing ranked set sampling (RSS) schemes, and it is a cost-effective alternative to the classical RSS and double RSS schemes. In this paper, we propose an improved estimator for estimating the cumulative distribution function (CDF) using HRSS. It is shown, both theoretically and numerically, that the CDF estimator under HRSS scheme is unbiased and its variance is always less than the variance of the CDF estimator with simple random sampling (SRS). An unbiased estimator of the variance of CDF estimator using HRSS is also derived. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we also study the performances of the proposed and existing CDF estimators under both perfect and imperfect rankings. It turns out that the proposed CDF estimator is by far a superior alternative to the existing CDF estimators with SRS, RSS and L-RSS schemes. For a practical application, a real data set is considered on the bilirubin level of babies in neonatal intensive care.  相似文献

In this work, we define a new method of ranked set sampling (RSS) which is suitable when the characteristic (variable) Y of primary interest on the units is jointly distributed with an auxiliary characteristic X on which one can take its measurement on any number of units, so that units having record values on X alone are ranked and retained for making measurement on Y. We name this RSS as concomitant record ranked set sampling (CRRSS). We propose estimators of the parameters associated with the variable Y of primary interest based on observations of the proposed CRRSS which are applicable to a very large class of distributions viz. Morgenstern family of distributions. We illustrate the application of CRRSS and our estimation technique of parameters, when the basic distribution is Morgenstern-type bivariate logistic distribution. A primary data collected by CRRSS method is demonstrated and the obtained data used to illustrate the results developed in this work.  相似文献

In this paper, and based on a progressive type-II censored sample from the generalized Rayleigh (GR) distribution, we consider the problem of estimating the model parameters and predicting the unobserved removed data. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches are used to estimate the scale and shape parameters. The Gibbs and Metropolis samplers are used to predict the life lengths of the removed units in multiple stages of the progressively censored sample. The two-parameter generalized exponential (GE) distribution was introduced by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D. and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distribution. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.]. It was observed that the GE can be used in situations where a skewed distribution for a nonnegative random variable is needed. In this article, the Bayesian estimation and prediction for the GE distribution, using informative priors, have been considered. Importance sampling is used to estimate the parameters, as well as the reliability function, and the Gibbs and Metropolis samplers data sets are used to predict the behavior of further observations from the distribution. Two data sets are used to illustrate the Bayesian procedure.  相似文献

The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and the likelihood ratio test (LRT) will be considered for making inference about the scale parameter of the exponential distribution in case of moving extreme ranked set sampling (MERSS). The MLE and LRT can not be written in closed form. Therefore, a modification of the MLE using the technique suggested by Maharota and Nanda (Biometrika 61:601–606, 1974) will be considered and this modified estimator will be used to modify the LRT to get a test in closed form for testing a simple hypothesis against one sided alternatives. The same idea will be used to modify the most powerful test (MPT) for testing a simple hypothesis versus a simple hypothesis to get a test in closed form for testing a simple hypothesis against one sided alternatives. Then it appears that the modified estimator is a good competitor of the MLE and the modified tests are good competitors of the LRT using MERSS and simple random sampling (SRS).  相似文献

Many researches have used ranked set sampling (RSS) method instead of simple random sampling (SRS) to improve power of some nonparametric tests. In this study, the two-sample permutation test within multistage ranked set sampling (MSRSS) is proposed and investigated. The power of this test is compared with the SRS permutation test for some symmetric and asymmetric distributions through Monte Carlo simulations. It has been found that this test is more powerful than the SRS permutation test; its power increased by set size and/or number of cycles and/or number of stages. Symmetric distributions power increased better than asymmetric distributions power.  相似文献

Neoteric ranked set sampling (NRSS) is a recently developed sampling plan, derived from the well-known ranked set sampling (RSS) scheme. It has already been proved that NRSS provides more efficient estimators for population mean and variance compared to RSS and other sampling designs based on ranked sets. In this work, we propose and evaluate the performance of some two-stage sampling designs based on NRSS. Five different sampling schemes are proposed. Through an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study, we verified that all proposed sampling designs outperform RSS, NRSS, and the original double RSS design, producing estimators for the population mean with a lower mean square error. Furthermore, as with NRSS, two-stage NRSS estimators present some bias for asymmetric distributions. We complement the study with a discussion on the relative performance of the proposed estimators. Moreover, an additional simulation based on data of the diameter and height of pine trees is presented.  相似文献

Abstract

In the case where strength and stress both follow exponential distributions, this paper considers the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) of the system reliability based on L ranked set sampling (LRSS). The proposed MLE is shown to have existence, uniqueness and asymptotic normality, and its asymptotic variance is obtained by the Fisher information matrix of LRSS. The values of asymptotic relative efficiencies show that the proposed MLE is always more efficient than the MLE using simple random sampling (SRS). However, the MLE using LRSS cannot be written in closed form. Therefore, the modified MLE is proposed using the technique replaced some terms in the maximum likelihood equations by their expectations. The newly modified MLE using LRSS is shown to be superior to the MLE using SRS. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a real data set on metastatic renal carcinoma study.  相似文献

In surveys of natural resources in agriculture, ecology, fisheries, forestry, environmental management, etc., cost-effective sampling methods are of major concern. In this paper, we propose a two-stage cluster sampling (TSCS) in integration with the hybrid ranked set sampling (HRSS)—named TSCS-HRSS—in the second stage of sampling for estimating the population mean. The TSCS-HRSS scheme encompasses several existing ranked set sampling (RSS) schemes and may help in selecting a smaller number of units to rank. It is shown both theoretically and numerically that the TSCS-HRSS provides an unbiased estimator of the population mean and it is more precise than the mean estimators based on TSCS with SRS and RSS schemes. An unbiased estimator of the variance of the proposed mean estimator is also derived. A similar trend is observed when studying the impact of imperfect rankings on the performance of the TSCS-HRSS based mean estimator.  相似文献

When measuring units are expensive or time consuming, while ranking them is relatively easy and inexpensive, it is known that ranked set sampling (RSS) is preferable to simple random sampling (SRS). Many authors have suggested several extensions of RSS. As a variation, Al-Saleh and Al-Kadiri [Double ranked set sampling, Statist. Probab. Lett. 48 (2000), pp. 205–212] introduced double ranked set sampling (DRSS) and it was extended by Al-Saleh and Al-Omari [Multistage ranked set sampling, J. Statist. Plann. Inference 102 (2002), pp. 273–286] to multistage ranked set sampling (MSRSS). The entropy of a random variable (r.v.) is a measure of its uncertainty. It is a measure of the amount of information required on the average to determine the value of a (discrete) r.v.. In this work, we discuss entropy estimation in RSS design and aforementioned extensions and compare the results with those in SRS design in terms of bias and root mean square error (RMSE). Motivated by the above observed efficiency, we continue to investigate entropy-based goodness-of-fit test for the inverse Gaussian distribution using RSS. Critical values for some sample sizes determined by means of Monte Carlo simulations are presented for each design. A Monte Carlo power analysis is performed under various alternative hypotheses in order to compare the proposed testing procedure with the existing methods. The results indicate that tests based on RSS and its extensions are superior alternatives to the entropy test based on SRS.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Whenever a practitioner is not sure about the underlying process distribution, alternative monitoring schemes that may be used are called nonparametric charts. A nonparametric scheme mostly used to monitor the difference in the means of two samples is called the Wilcoxon rank-sum (WRS). In this paper, we propose nonparametric (or distribution-free) cumulative sum and exponentially weighted moving average charts based on the WRS using ranked set sampling. We thoroughly discuss the performance of the proposed control charts in terms of run-length properties through intensive simulations. Moreover, we conduct an overall performance comparison using the relative mean index and a variety of quality loss functions (for instance, the average extra quadratic loss, average ratio of the average run-length and performance comparison index). The newly proposed charts have very attractive run-length properties and they have better overall performance than their counterparts. An illustrative example is given, as well as an easy-to-use table with optimal design parameters to aid practical implementation.  相似文献

In this article, we assume that the lifetimes of products follow a one-parameter exponential distribution and use both conjugate and Jeffreys prior distributions for finding a Bayes estimator based on the RSS scheme for lifetime performance index CL. We also obtained maximum likelihood and adhac estimators for CL. Monte Carlo simulation study is done for comparing the obtained estimators in two sampling schemes SRS and RSS. Fisher information has been utilized to obtain lower confidence bound of CL for both schemes in asymptotically state and use this bounds for hypothesis testing of CL.  相似文献

Based on Doubly type II censored data, this paper present Bayesian prediction intervals for future ordered failure times of components whose failure times have the classical Pareto distribution.
