International Women's Day Party Well Received庆"三八"中外妇女招待会受欢迎It was a warm spring day on March 6,2007.On that afternoon,1,500 Chinese and foreign guests gathered in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing,to celebrate the 97th anniversary of International Women's Day,which was on March 8.The event was organized by the All-China Women's Federation(ACWF).

March 8th is International Women's Day. This day is an ideal opportunity to reflect on the progress made to advance women's equality, to assess the challenges facing women in contemporary society and to consider future steps to enhance the status of women and, of course, to celebrate the gains made in these areas. During this commemoration, the All-China Women's Federation will honor Chinese women who have made outstanding achievements. The honorees set an example, inspiring women to utilize their full potential for the good of society and to realize their own value

Ten Outstanding Women Chosen

BEFORE the celebration of the 85th anniversary of International Women's Day, the All-China Women's Federation sponsored an activity to choose ten outstanding Chinese women, which involved the Ministries of Labor and Personnel, the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army, the All-China Federation of Trade Union, the Youth League of China, the China Association of Science and about a dozen Chinese news agencies. The results were recently announced, and including following women: Yue Xicui, one of the third generation of women aviators. Since she joined the air force she has accumulated 5,180 hours     

Through the Years——Chinese Women Celebrate March 8

Chinese women celebrated their first International Women's Day in 1924. The celebration was held at the No.1 Public Park in Guangzhou City, initiated by the Central Women's Department of the Kuomintang government. During the celebration, Madame He Xiangning, who was in charge of publicity affairs, chaired a meeting that was attended by more than 1,000 people from women's federations and more than 20 public women's schools of higher education or professional training, including a women drivers' continuation school.

Looking Back to Make a New Start——The 40th Anniversary of Women of China Magazine

ON June 26, 1996, Women of China held festivities in the International Hotel of Beijing to celebrate the 40th birthday of this English monthly. Chen Muhua, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation, Lei Jieqiong, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Ma Yuzhen, Deputy Minister of the Information Office of the State Council and more than 200 female celebrities from all walks of life, as well as some foreign experts in Beijing were present at the celebration. Race Celebrates Women's Conference

ON the morning of February 26, a sea of enthusiastic women dressed in running suits converged upon Tiananmen Square for the start of the "Go to Beijing" distance race to celebrate the 85th anniversary of International Women's Day and to welcome the UN Fourth World Conference on Women (FWCW). The crowd included thousands of women from China and abroad. State Leaders Meet Women Delegates

ON the morning of March 7, 1995, Jiang Zemin, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Republic of China, and Hu Jintao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, met with women delegates who attended the meeting from all levels of society commemorating the 85th anniversary of the International Women's Day. Cross-Country Trek

On August 8, 1998, Wu Qi and Yu Yan arrived at Beijing, the destination of a journey that had taken them more than three years. In travelling across 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, by foot, bus and train, these two young women from Guangzhou had covered a distance of 120,000 kJlometers, the first continuous cross-country journey accomplished by women. On the eve of International Women's Day (March 8th) of 1995, Wu Qi and Yu Yan quit their jobs and started out on their cross-country

Chinese Women's Forumon Employment Opens in Beijing中国妇女就业论坛在北京召开The Chinese Women's Forum on Employment was held on December 15, 2002 in Beijing. It was sponsored by the All-China Women's Federation and Chinese Women's Research Society. About 300 leaders, experts and scholars attended the forum. They discussed how to promote women's employment and the need to draft and improve policies regarding gender equality in the workforce.Discussions focused on ways of expanding employment opportunities for women, promoting professional development programs for both men and women, and ways of ensuring pay and benefits equity between men and women.
