efficiency balanced (£R) and partially efficiency balanced (PEB) designs were studied hy Calinski (1971) and Puri and Higam (1971, 1977a). In tais paper we have studied the dual desinas of two classes of PEB designs. It is shown that the dual of any symmetrical PCS design with HN'=N'H is again a PEB design. Also the dual of a PEB(S) with μ1 = 0 μ2 = 0and is shown to the again a PEB(S). The relations between PEB designs and linked and partially linked blocks have heen established. As a conseguence, the analysis of linked Mock and partially linkei block designs can he sinrlififid. Sore useful classes of supplencntcd block designs having simple analysis have also been discussed.  相似文献

This note presents an extension of Q-method of analysis for binary designs given by Rao (1956) to n-ary balanced and partially balanced block designs. Here a linked n-ary block (LNB) design is defined as the dual of balanced n-ary (BN) design. Having a note on Yates’ (1939, 1940) method of P-analysis, we further extend the expressions for binary linked block (LB) designs given by Rao (1956) to linked n-ary block (LNB) designs which admit easy estimation of parameters for these type of all n-ary designs.  相似文献

Existing projection designs (e.g. maximum projection designs) attempt to achieve good space-filling properties in all projections. However, when using a Gaussian process (GP), model-based design criteria such as the entropy criterion is more appropriate. We employ the entropy criterion averaged over a set of projections, called expected entropy criterion (EEC), to generate projection designs. We show that maximum EEC designs are invariant to monotonic transformations of the response, i.e. they are optimal for a wide class of stochastic process models. We also demonstrate that transformation of each column of a Latin hypercube design (LHD) based on a monotonic function can substantially improve the EEC. Two types of input transformations are considered: a quantile function of a symmetric Beta distribution chosen to optimize the EEC, and a nonparametric transformation corresponding to the quantile function of a symmetric density chosen to optimize the EEC. Numerical studies show that the proposed transformations of the LHD are efficient and effective for building robust maximum EEC designs. These designs give projections with markedly higher entropies and lower maximum prediction variances (MPV''s) at the cost of small increases in average prediction variances (APV''s) compared to state-of-the-art space-filling designs over wide ranges of covariance parameter values.  相似文献

Two symmetric fractional factorial designs with qualitative and quantitative factors are equivalent if the design matrix of one can be obtained from the design matrix of the other by row and column permutations, relabeling of the levels of the qualitative factors and reversal of the levels of the quantitative factors. In this paper, necessary and sufficient methods of determining equivalence of any two symmetric designs with both types of factors are given. An algorithm used to check equivalence or non-equivalence is evaluated. If two designs are equivalent the algorithm gives a set of permutations which map one design to the other. Fast screening methods for non-equivalence are considered. Extensions of results to asymmetric fractional factorial designs with qualitative and quantitative factors are discussed.  相似文献

Foldover techniques are used to reduce the confounding when some important effects (usually lower order effects) cannot be estimated independently. This article develops an efficient foldover mechanism for symmetric or asymmetric designs, whether regular or nonregular. In this paper, we take the uniformity criteria (UC) as the optimality measures to construct the optimal combined designs (initial design plus its corresponding foldover design) which have better capability of estimating lower order effects. The relationship between any initial design and its combined design is studied. A comparison study between the combined designs via different UC is provided. Equivalence between any combined design and its complementary combined design is investigated, which is a very useful constraint that reduce the search space. Using our results as benchmarks, we can implement a powerful algorithm for constructing optimal combined designs. Our work covers as well as gives results better than recent works of about 20 articles in the last few years as special cases. So this article is a good reference for constructing effective designs.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the problem of determining block designs which are optimal under type 1 optimality criteria within various classes of designs having υ treatments arranged in b blocks of size k. The solutions to two optimization problems are given which are related to a general result obtained by Cheng (1978) and which are useful in this investigation. As one application of the solutions obtained, the definition of a regular graph design given in Mitchell and John (1977) is extended to that of a semi-regular graph design and some sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a semi-regular graph design which is optimal under a given type 1 criterion. A result is also given which shows how the sufficient conditions derived can be used to establish the optimality under a specific type 1 criterion of some particular types of semi- regular graph designs having both equal and unequal numbers of replicates. Finally,some sufficient conditions are obtained for the dual of an A- or D-optimal design to be A- or D-optimal within an appropriate class of dual designs.  相似文献

The problem considered is to find optimum designs for treatment effects in a block design (BD) setup, when positional effects are also present besides treatment and block effects, but they are ignored while formulating the model. In the class of symmetric balanced incomplete block designs, the Youden square design is shown to be optimal in the sense of minimizing the bias term in the mean squared error (MSE) of the best linear unbiased estimators of the full set of orthonormal treatment contrasts, irrespective of the value of the positional effects.  相似文献

The design of statistical experiments, as developed by R. A. Fisher and his followers, often used combinatorial structures that yielded simple calculation of estimates and/or symmetric variances and covariances. Examples are block designs with balance, regression experiments with equally spaced observations, etc. More recently, considerations of optimality (choosing a design that achieves most accurate inference in some sense) have sometimes justified the traditional designs, but have sometimes led to new combinatorial investigations. In the literature a systematic method of obtaining a group testing design is not available at present. Weideman and Raghavarao (1987a, b) gave methods for the construction of non - adaptive hypergeometric group testing designs for identifying at most two defectives by using a dual method. In the present investigation we have developed a method of construction of group testing designs from (i) Hypercubic Designs for t ≡ 3 (mod 6) and (ii) Balanced Incomplete Block Designs for t ≡ 1 (mod 6) and t ≡ 3 (mod 6). These constructions are accomplished by the use of dual designs. The designs so constructed satisfy specified properties and attained an optimal bound as discussed by Weidman and Raghavarao (1987a,b). Here it is also shown that the condition for pairwise disjoint sets of BIBD for t ≡ 1 (mod 6) given by Weideman and Raghavarao (1987b) is not true for all such designs.  相似文献

In this paper the analysis of the class of block designs whose C matrix can be expressed in terms of the Kronecker product of some elementary matrices is considered. The analysis utilizes a basic result concerning the spectral decomposition of the Kronecker product of symmetric matrices in terms of the spectral decomposition of the component matrices involved in the Kronecker product. The property (A) of Kurkjian and Zelen (1963) is generalised and the analysis of generalised property (A) designs is given. It is proved that a design is balanced factorially if and only if it is a generalised property (A) design. A method of analysis of Kronecker product block designs whose component designs are equi-replicate and proper is also suggested.  相似文献

The paper investigates optimal designs in the second-degree Kronecker model for mixture experiments. Three groups of novel results are presented: (i) characterization of feasible weighted centroid designs for a maximum parameter system, (ii) derivations of D-, A-, and E-optimal weighted centroid designs, and (iii) numerically φp-optimal weighted centroid designs. Results on a quadratic subspace of invariant symmetric matrices containing the information matrices involved in the design problem serve as a main tool throughout the analysis.  相似文献

Symmetric designs, for exploring the effect of competition between two varieties or plant species planted on a triangular lattice of hill plots, are discussed and the class of m-fold symmetric Beehive designs, based on certain symmetry properties of a regular hexagon, is introduced. The designs considered by Martin (1973) and Veevers and Boffey (1975) belong to the family arising when m = 6. Optimal designs for m = 2 and 3 are presented and, although not balanced, improvements in the sense of being nearer to balanced are achieved.Taking an alternative approach, a simple technique for constructing balanced, essentially rectangular, designs of arbitrary size is developed, based upon a set of twelve symmetric elementary arrays which possess a remarkable self-building property. The experimenter is at liberty to choose a balanced design to suit restrictions on space and material or to meet his desired degree of replication whilst the actual planting technique requires only that complete rows of each variety be suitably juxtaposed.  相似文献

Rotatable designs that are available for process/ product optimization trials are mostly symmetric in nature. In many practical situations, response surface designs (RSDs) with mixed factor (unequal) levels are more suitable as these designs explore more regions in the design space but it is hard to get rotatable designs with a given level of asymmetry. When experimenting with unequal factor levels via asymmetric second order rotatable design (ASORDs), the lack of fit of the model may become significant which ultimately leads to the estimation of parameters based on a higher (or third) order model. Experimenting with a new third order rotatable design (TORD) in such a situation would be expensive as the responses observed from the first stage runs would be kept underutilized. In this paper, we propose a method of constructing asymmetric TORD by sequentially augmenting some additional points to the ASORDs without discarding the runs in the first stage. The proposed designs will be more economical to obtain the optimum response as the design in the first stage can be used to fit the second order model and with some additional runs, third order model can be fitted without discarding the initial design.KEYWORDS: Response surface methodology, rotatability, orthogonal transformation, asymmetric, sequential experimentation, third order designs  相似文献

The foldover is a useful technique in construction of two-level factorial designs. A foldover design is the follow-up experiment generated by reversing the sign(s) of one or more factors in the initial design. The full design obtained by joining the runs in the foldover design to those of the initial design is called the combined design. In this article, some new lower bounds of various discrepancies of combined designs, such as the centered, symmetric, and wrap-around L2-discrepancies, are obtained, which can be used as a better benchmark for searching optimal foldover plans. Our results provide a theoretical justification for optimal foldover plans in terms of uniformity criterion.  相似文献

Orthogonal factorial and fractional factorial designs are very popular in many experimental studies, particularly the two-level and three-level designs used in screening experiments. When an experimenter is able to specify the set of possibly nonnegligible factorial effects, it is sometimes possible to obtain an orthogonal design belonging to the class of parallel flats designs, that has a smaller run-size than a suitable design from the class of classical fractional factorial designs belonging to the class of single flat designs. Sri-vastava and Li (1996) proved a fundamental theorem of orthogonal s-level, s being a prime, designs of parallel flats type for the user-specified resolution. They also tabulated a series of orthogonal designs for the two-level case. No orthogonal designs for three-level case are available in their paper. In this paper, we present a simple proof for the theorem given in Srivastava and Li (1996) for the three-level case. We also give a dual form of the theorem, which is more useful for developing an algorithm for construction of orthogonal designs. Some classes of three-level orthogonal designs with practical run-size are given in the paper.  相似文献

In Butler (1984a) a semi-translation block was defined and a classification given of all symmetric 2-(υ,k,λ) designs with λ>1, which contain more than one such block. In this paper we consider symmetric designs of type V and VI. We show that symmetric designs of type V are also of type VI, and in addition we show that all such designs can be obtained from a Pn,q by a construction which we give.
