2011年上海市民公共交通安全感调查显示,上海市民高度关注公共交通安全,对目前市内公交生命安全保障的安全感为77%,男性安全感高于女性,但上班族的安全感略低于老少群体。市民对国内长途客运的安全感为58.7%,高学历者不安全感相对更高。对于不安全因素,市民对地铁和公交车最担心的是超载,对出租车最担心的是黑车,对于乘飞机最担心受自然条件影响,坐动车(高铁)最担心信号设备故障,坐长途客车则最担心司机疲劳驾驶。 相似文献

This paper outlines and discusses the advantages of an ‘Introduction to Statistical Consulting’ course (ISC) that exposes students to statistical consulting early in their studies. The course is intended for students before, or while, they study their units in statistical techniques, and assumes only a first‐year introductory statistics unit. The course exposes undergraduate students to the application of statistics and helps develop statistical thinking. An important goal is to introduce students to work as a statistician early in their studies because this motivates some students to study statistics further and provides a framework to motivate the learning of further statistical techniques. From individual level data for an entire cohort of undergraduate students in the 'old' universities in the UK, we use a binomial probit model to estimate the probability that an individual will 'drop out' of university before the completion of their degree course. We examine the cohort of students enrolling full time for a 3- or 4-year degree in the academic year 1989–1990. We find evidence to support both the hypothesis that the completion of courses by students is influenced by the extent of prior academic preparedness and the hypothesis that social integration at university is important. We also find an influence of unemployment in the county of prior residence, especially for poorer male students. Finally, we draw conclusions regarding the public policy of constructing university performance indicators in this area. 相似文献

Modern students encounter large, messy datasets long before setting foot in our classrooms. Many of these students need to develop skills in exploratory data analysis and multivariate analysis techniques for their jobs after college, but such topics are not covered in traditional introductory statistics courses. This case study describes my experience in designing and teaching an undergraduate course on multivariate data analysis with minimal prerequisites, using real data, active learning, and other interactive activities to help students tackle the material. Multivariate topics covered include clustering and classification (among others) for exploratory data analysis and an introduction to algorithmic modeling. There is a tremendous need in our technological society to train statisticians for all sectors of education, government, and industry. Because statistical training has largely been restricted to graduate schools, the profession is losing many good students to other fields of study. Members of the statistics community are encouraged to reach out to high-school students and undergraduate students to increase the awareness of statistics as a scientific field of study and as a professional career. The ASA Council of Chapters has recently completed a slide presentation entitled “Statistical Science: The Profession,” which was professionally developed to aid this endeavor. In addition, high-school teachers, high-school counselors, and professors of mathematics and science education are identified as important audiences for hearing this message and for broadening general public awareness of what our profession has to offer. 相似文献

It is important to educational planners to estimate the likelihood and time-scale of graduation of students enrolled on a curriculum. The particular case we are concerned with, emerges when studies are not completed in the prescribed interval of time. Under these circumstances we use a framework of survival analysis applied to lifetime-type educational data to examine the distribution of duration of undergraduate studies for 10,313 students, enrolled in a Greek university during ten consecutive academic years. Non-parametric and parametric survival models have been developed for handling this distribution as well as a modified procedure for testing goodness-of-fit of the models. Data censoring was taken into account in the statistical analysis and the problems of thresholding of graduation and of perpetual students are also addressed. We found that the proposed parametric model adequately describes the empirical distribution provided by non-parametric estimation. We also found significant difference between duration of studies of men and women students. The proposed methodology could be useful to analyse data from any other type and level of education or general lifetime data with similar characteristics. 相似文献

College students majoring in science and engineering need to learn how to model key features of the driving mechanisms of natural, scientific, and engineering phenomena. A rigorous treatment of these topics requires a thorough understanding of advanced mathematical concepts and probability theory. However, we believe that carefully designed computer simulation software offers a means of conveying fundamental ideas of probabilistic modeling, while minimizing the need for underlying mathematical analyses. Based on this premise we have initiated the development of a software system that will be incorporated into a novel, introductory course in probabilistic modeling for undergraduate students in the biological and environmental sciences. In this paper we describe the preliminary version of our system that implements simulation, real-time animation, and calculations of dynamic statistical summaries for several prototypical stochastic models for a variety of biological systems. 相似文献
