Abstract

This paper examines the role of state Political Action for Candidate Election committees during the 1992 election cycle and assesses the extent that these state committees carried out their identified purpose. Using a survey questionnaire of the state chapters' executive directors, the authors examine the structure of the P.A.C.E. units and the activities they undertook, and assess the overall level of effectiveness of P.A.C.E. efforts at the state level. While P.A.C.E. activities were significant, considerable development is needed at the local, state, and national levels to increase the impact of social workers relative to other interest groups.  相似文献

本文选择2008年社会状况综合调查数据中城市工人和农民工样本,使用布朗分解方法解析城市工人与农民工收入差距,重点解答城市工人与农民工收入差距形成的原因和过程。研究发现单位之间的收入差异是总体收入差距的主要部分,而入职户籍门槛是阻碍农民工进入公有制单位,获取较高收入的重要原因。在同一所有制性质单位内部,城市工人与农民工同工不同酬占总体收入差距比例不大。人力资本差异能够解释收入差距的36.2%,说明人力资本要素虽然能够影响到收入状况,但统一、竞争的劳动力市场并未完全形成。  相似文献

This paper examines the notion that blue-collar workers have been converting from working-class to middle-class orientations as a consequence of gains in income and education over the past few decades. Cross-sectional analysis of survey data for white workers and spouses reveals that a considerable manual-nonmanual subjective class schism persists when remaining differences in income and education are taken into account. The gap is maintained both by an adherence to working-class identification among blue-collar workers at all socioeconomic levels and by a weaker tendency for these workers, compared with white-collar workers, to use income and educational status as criteria for self-placement in the class system. Longitudinal analysis further indicates that embourgeoisement among blue-collar workers has been slight and suggests that the manual-nonmanual gap in class orientations is widening.  相似文献

The nuclear family, whose structure was supposed to permit the separation of work and family, is still the model for employers' social policies toward workers. The efficiency of this model is even less evident today, as the author points out, and she argues that it is in the best interests of industry to support the needs of the changing family, whose adult members, now both mothers and fathers, make up the workforce, and their children, who will be the workforce.  相似文献

Pairs of resumes, one for a 57-year-old and the other for a 32-year-old, were mailed to 775 large firms and employment agencies across the United States. Although the resumes presented equal qualifications, the older job seeker received a less favorable employer response 26.5% of times when a position appeared to be vacant. Vigorous enforcement of equal opportunity laws as well as initiatives to change employer attitudes are appropriate responses to such discrimination. The technique of employment testing, demonstrated in this research, can be useful in both efforts.  相似文献

Summary

Much has been said and written concerning the influence of intrinsic personal and professional factors on the use of computers in general and in the social services in particular. For example, much has been made of the negative attitudes of professional personnel towards computer use. Little data however has been forthcoming to demonstrate the accuracy of this viewpoint. Theoretical analyses of the computerization process have mentioned three general issues in overcoming the imputed outcomes of these negative attitudes.

An ex post facto study on computer acceptance by social workers, employed in municipal social service agencies (MSSA) in Israel, where a computerized case management system was implemented, was conducted. The impact of (1) intrinsic attitudes towards computer utilization in Human Services; (2) organizational factors; and (3) system design related factors on system acceptance was explored. It was found that readiness to computerize was related mainly to organizational and system design factors and not, contrary to expectations, to intrinsic attitudes of social workers. Implications of these findings on system implementation are discussed.  相似文献

This article traces the development of home and community- based care to its current place in the worlds of health and social policy. An argument is developed to the effect that such services have by now gained both heightened policy legitimacy and organizational capacity. Building on these contentions, the article goes on to suggest that such services should continue to gain a more prominent place within long-term care policy, and that long-term care issues deserve a more central place within social insurance policy more generally. The article concludes by suggesting that demonstrations of policy efficacy such as those that are taking place in home and community services might help to at least modestly offset the frontal assault which is currently taking place across the range of American social policy.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to examine the attitudes of MSW practitioners toward lesbians and gay men using a recently developed instrument. Whereas prior research focused on blatantly homophobic or heterosexist attitudes, this research uses a measurement tool based on the concept of queer consciousness (QC) and measures subtle forms of prejudice, including both positive and negative attitudes along four dimensions: Value gay and lesbian progress/diversity, resist traditional sex and gender roles, positive beliefs about lesbians, and positive beliefs about gay men. Research findings indicate negative attitudes toward lesbians and gay men in three out of the four dimensions for the sample of social work practitioners. This article concludes with suggestions for social work educators who want to redress areas of subtle prejudice and promote higher levels of QC.  相似文献
