In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

Gupta and Kundu (Statistics 43:621–643, 2009) recently introduced a new class of weighted exponential distribution. It is observed that the proposed weighted exponential distribution is very flexible and can be used quite effectively to analyze skewed data. In this paper we propose a new bivariate distribution with the weighted exponential marginals. Different properties of this new bivariate distribution have been investigated. This new family has three unknown parameters, and it is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters can be obtained by solving a one-dimensional optimization procedure. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators. Small simulation experiments have been performed to see the behavior of the maximum likelihood estimators, and one data analysis has been presented for illustrative purposes. Finally we discuss the multivariate generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

Recently, Gupta and Kundu [R.D. Gupta and D. Kundu, A new class of weighted exponential distributions, Statistics 43 (2009), pp. 621–634] have introduced a new class of weighted exponential (WE) distributions, and this can be used quite effectively to model lifetime data. In this paper, we introduce a new class of weighted Marshall–Olkin bivariate exponential distributions. This new singular distribution has univariate WE marginals. We study different properties of the proposed model. There are four parameters in this model and the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We need to solve a four-dimensional optimization problem to compute the MLEs. One data set has been analysed for illustrative purposes and finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Recently it is observed that the inverse Weibull (IW) distribution can be used quite effectively to analyse lifetime data in one dimension. The main aim of this paper is to define a bivariate inverse Weibull (BIW) distribution so that the marginals have IW distributions. It is observed that the joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. Several properties of this distribution such as marginals, conditional distributions and product moments have been discussed. We obtained the maximum likelihood estimates for the unknown parameters of this distribution and their approximate variance– covariance matrix. We perform some simulations to see the performances of the maximum likelihood estimators. One data set has been re-analysed and it is observed that the bivariate IW distribution provides a better fit than the bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

Multivariate distributions are more and more used to model the dependence encountered in many fields. However, classical multivariate distributions can be restrictive by their nature, while Sarmanov's multivariate distribution, by joining different marginals in a flexible and tractable dependence structure, often provides a valuable alternative. In this paper, we introduce some bivariate mixed Sarmanov distributions with the purpose to extend the class of bivariate Sarmanov distributions and to obtain new dependency structures. Special attention is paid to the bivariate mixed Sarmanov distribution with Poisson marginals and, in particular, to the resulting bivariate Sarmanov distributions with negative binomial and with Poisson‐inverse Gaussian marginals; these particular types of mixed distributions have possible applications in, for example modelling bivariate count data. The extension to higher dimensions is also discussed. Moreover, concerning the dependency structure, we also present some correlation formulas.  相似文献

Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution is one of the most popular absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Recently, Kundu and Gupta [A class of absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Statist Methodol. 2010;7:464–477] introduced Block and Basu bivariate Weibull (BBBW) distribution, which is a generalization of the Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution, and provided the maximum likelihood estimators using EM algorithm. In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the BBBW distribution. The Bayes estimators are obtained with respect to the squared error loss function, and the prior distributions allow for prior dependence among the unknown parameters. Prior independence also can be obtained as a special case. It is observed that the Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose to use the importance sampling technique to compute the Bayes estimates and also to construct the associated highest posterior density credible intervals. The analysis of two data sets has been performed for illustrative purposes. The performances of the proposed estimators are quite satisfactory. Finally, we generalize the results for the multivariate case.  相似文献

The main object of this article is to propose an extension of the tobit model for which the error distribution follows the power-normal distribution (Gupta and Gupta, 2008 Gupta , D. , Gupta , R. C. ( 2008 ). Analyzing skewed data by power normal model . Test 17 : 197210 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). Inference is dealt with by using the likelihood approach. Simulation studies and application to a real data set are used to demonstrate the usefulness of the extension.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new multivariate pareto (MVP) distribution with many interesting properties. we extend the results of characterization of univariate and bivariate pareto distributions given by Krishnaji (1970) and veenus and Nair (1994) respectively. We also extend the property of dullness of univariate pareto distribution given by Talwalkar (1980) to the multivariate pareto case. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) of the parameters and their asymptotic multivariate normal (AMVN) distrioutions. We propose large sample studentized test for testing independence and identical marginals of the components.  相似文献

Recently Kundu and Gupta [2010, Modified Sarhan-Balakrishnan singular bivariate distribution, Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference, 140, 526-538] introduced the modified Sarhan-Balakrishnan bivariate distribution and established its several properties. In this paper we provide a multivariate extension of the modified Sarhan-Balakrishnan bivariate distribution. It is a distribution with a singular part. Different ageing and dependence properties of the proposed multivariate distribution have been established. The moment generating function, the product moments can be obtained in terms of infinite series. The multivariate hazard rate has been obtained. We provide the EM algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimators and an illustrative example is performed to see the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

Generalized exponential distribution has been used quite effectively to model positively skewed lifetime data as an alternative to the well known Weibull or gamma distributions. In this paper we introduce an absolute continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution by using a simple transformation from a well known bivariate exchangeable distribution. The marginal distributions of the proposed bivariate generalized exponential distributions are generalized exponential distributions. The joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in closed forms. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution can be obtained using Clayton copula with generalized exponential distribution as marginals. We derive different properties of this new distribution. It is a five-parameter distribution, and the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms. We propose some alternative estimators, which can be obtained quite easily, and they can be used as initial guesses to compute the maximum likelihood estimates. One data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes. Finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

The generalized exponential distribution proposed by Gupta and Kundu [Gupta, R.D and Kundu, D., 1999, Generalized exponential distributions. Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics, 41(2), 173–188.] is an important lifetime distribution in survival analysis. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation procedure of the parameters of the generalized exponential distribution when the data are left censored. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown para-meters and the Fisher information matrix. Simulation studies are carried out to observe the performance of the estimators in small sample.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a bivariate Kumaraswamy (BVK) distribution whose marginals are Kumaraswamy distributions. The cumulative distribution function of this bivariate model has absolutely continuous and singular parts. Representations for the cumulative and density functions are presented and properties such as marginal and conditional distributions, product moments and conditional moments are obtained. We show that the BVK model can be obtained from the Marshall and Olkin survival copula and obtain a tail dependence measure. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed and the Fisher information matrix is determined. We propose an EM algorithm to estimate the parameters. Some simulations are presented to verify the performance of the direct maximum-likelihood estimation and the proposed EM algorithm. We also present a method to generate bivariate distributions from our proposed BVK distribution. Furthermore, we introduce a BVK distribution which has only an absolutely continuous part and discuss some of its properties. Finally, a real data set is analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

Kundu and Gupta [Analysis of hybrid life-tests in presence of competing risks. Metrica. 2007;65:159–170] provided the analysis of Type-I hybrid censored competing risks data, when the lifetime distributions of the competing cause of failures follows exponential distribution. In this paper, we consider the analysis of Type-II hybrid censored competing risks data. It is assumed that latent lifetime distributions of the competing causes of failures follow independent exponential distributions with different scale parameters. It is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters do not always exist. We propose the modified estimators of the scale parameters, which coincide with the corresponding maximum likelihood estimators when they exist, and asymptotically they are equivalent. We obtain the exact distribution of the proposed estimators. Using the exact distributions of the proposed estimators, associated confidence intervals are obtained. The asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals of the unknown parameters are also provided. Further, Bayesian inference of some unknown parametric functions under a very flexible Beta-Gamma prior is considered. Bayes estimators and associated credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained using the Monte Carlo method. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are performed to see the effectiveness of the proposed estimators and one real data set has been analysed for the illustrative purposes. It is observed that the proposed model and the method work quite well for this data set.  相似文献

Traditionally, analysis of Hydrology employs only one hydrological variable. Recently, Nadarajah [A bivariate distribution with gamma and beta marginals with application to drought data. J Appl Stat. 2009;36:277–301] proposed a bivariate model with gamma and beta as marginal distributions to analyse the drought duration and the proportion of drought events. However, the validity of this method hinges on fulfilment of stringent assumptions. We propose a robust likelihood approach which can be used to make inference for general bivariate continuous and proportion data. Unlike the gamma–beta (GB) model which is sensitive to model misspecification, the new method provides legitimate inference without knowing the true underlying distribution of the bivariate data. Simulations and the analysis of the drought data from the State of Nebraska, USA, are provided to make contrasts between this robust approach and the GB model.  相似文献

We propose a new model for regression and dependence analysis when addressing spatial data with possibly heavy tails and an asymmetric marginal distribution. We first propose a stationary process with t marginals obtained through scale mixing of a Gaussian process with an inverse square root process with Gamma marginals. We then generalize this construction by considering a skew‐Gaussian process, thus obtaining a process with skew‐t marginal distributions. For the proposed (skew) t process, we study the second‐order and geometrical properties and in the t case, we provide analytic expressions for the bivariate distribution. In an extensive simulation study, we investigate the use of the weighted pairwise likelihood as a method of estimation for the t process. Moreover we compare the performance of the optimal linear predictor of the t process versus the optimal Gaussian predictor. Finally, the effectiveness of our methodology is illustrated by analyzing a georeferenced dataset on maximum temperatures in Australia.  相似文献

Recently, Lee and Cha proposed two general classes of discrete bivariate distributions. They have discussed some general properties and some specific cases of their proposed distributions. In this paper we have considered one model, namely bivariate discrete Weibull distribution, which has not been considered in the literature yet. The proposed bivariate discrete Weibull distribution is a discrete analogue of the Marshall–Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution. We study various properties of the proposed distribution and discuss its interesting physical interpretations. The proposed model has four parameters, and because of that it is a very flexible distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms, and we have proposed a very efficient nested EM algorithm which works quite well for discrete data. We have also proposed augmented Gibbs sampling procedure to compute Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters based on a very flexible set of priors. Two data sets have been analyzed to show how the proposed model and the method work in practice. We will see that the performances are quite satisfactory. Finally, we conclude the paper.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to study the pooled estimator of the shape parameter of the three parameter gamma distribution when k independent samples are available. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the pooled estimator are given and the small as well as the large sample properties are studied. The harmonic mean of the k estimators of the independent samples is proposed in the place of the pooled estimator, in the case in which the latter does not exist.  相似文献

In this paper, authors study properties and inference for the newly introduced skew-normal alpha-power model, generalizing both, the power-normal and skew-normal models. Inference is approached via maximum likelihood. Fisher information matrix is derived and shown to be nonsingular at the whole parametric space. Special emphasis is placed on the special case of the power–skew-normal model. Studies with real data illustrate the fact that the model can be very useful in applications, being able to overfit less general models entertained in the literature.  相似文献

The generalized exponential is the most commonly used distribution for analyzing lifetime data. This distribution has several desirable properties and it can be used quite effectively to analyse several skewed life time data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce absolutely continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution using the method of Block and Basu (1974). In fact, the Block and Basu exponential distribution will be extended to the generalized exponential distribution. We call the new proposed model as the Block and Basu bivariate generalized exponential distribution, then, discuss its different properties. In this case the joint probability distribution function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. The model has four unknown parameters and the maximum likelihood estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form. To compute the maximum likelihood estimators directly, one needs to solve a four dimensional optimization problem. The EM algorithm has been proposed to compute the maximum likelihood estimations of the unknown parameters. One data analysis is provided for illustrative purposes. Finally, we propose some generalizations of the proposed model and compare their models with each other.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the Inverse Gaussian distribution whose variance is proportional to the mean. Assuming that the data are available from IGD(,μ,c,μ 2), and also from its length biased version, simulation studies are presented to compare the MVUE and MLE in terms of their variances and mean square errors from both kinds of data. Some tables and graphs are provided to analyze the comparisons. Finally, some recommendations and conclusions are given when one or both kinds of data are available.  相似文献
