Bahadur (1966) presented a representation of an order statistic, giving its asymptotic distribution and the rate of convergence, under weak assumptions on the density function of the parent distribution. In this paper we consider the mean(squared) deviation of the error term in Bahadur’s approximation of the q th sample quantile (qn ). We derive a uniform bound on the mean (squared) deviation of qn , not depending on the value of q. An application of the given result provides the corresponding result for a kernel type estimator of the q th quantile.  相似文献

Let X1,…, Xn be random variables symmetric about θ from a common unknown distribution Fθ(x) =F(x–θ). To test the null hypothesis H0:θ= 0 against the alternative H1:θ > 0, permutation tests can be used at the cost of computational difficulties. This paper investigates alternative tests that are computationally simpler, notably some bootstrap tests which are compared with permutation tests. Of these the symmetrical bootstrap-f test competes very favourably with the permutation test in terms of Bahadur asymptotic efficiency, so it is a very attractive alternative.  相似文献

In some situations the asymptotic distribution of a random function T n() that depends on a nuisance parameter is tractable when has known value. In that case it can be used as a test statistic, if suitably constructed, for some hypothesis. However, in practice, often needs to be replaced by an estimator S n. In this paper general results are given concerning the asymptotic distribution of T n(S n) that include special cases previously dealt with. In particular, some situations are covered where the usual likelihood theory is nonregular and extreme values are employed to construct estimators and test statistics.  相似文献

Two simple tests which allow for unequal sample sizes are considered for testing hypothesis for the common mean of two normal populations. The first test is an exact test of size a based on two available t-statistics based on single samples made exact through random allocation of α among the two available t-tests. The test statistic of the second test is a weighted average of two available t-statistics with random weights. It is shown that the first test is more efficient than the available two t-tests with respect to Bahadur asymptotic relative efficiency. It is also shown that the null distribution of the test statistic in the second test, which is similar to the one based on the normalized Graybill-Deal test statistic, converges to a standard normal distribution. Finally, we compare the small sample properties of these tests, those given in Zhou and Mat hew (1993), and some tests given in Cohen and Sackrowitz (1984) in a simulation study. In this study, we find that the second test performs better than the tests given in Zhou and Mathew (1993) and is comparable to the ones given in Cohen and Sackrowitz (1984) with respect to power..  相似文献

We define a test statistic C n based on the sum of the likelihood ratio statistics for testing independence in the 2 × 2 tables defined at n sample cut-points (X i , Y i ). The asymptotic distribution of C n , given the cut-points, is sum of dependent χ2 variables with one degree of freedom. We use the bootstrap to obtain the distribution of C n . We compare the performance of several tests of bivariate independence, including Pearson, Spearman, and Kendall correlations, Blum-Kiefer-Rosenblatt statistic, and C n under several copulas and given marginal distributions.  相似文献

In the x2-goodness-of-fit test the underlying null hypothesis usually involves unknown parameters. In this article we study the asymptotic distribution of the Pearson statistic when the unknown parameters are estimated by a moment type estimator based on the ungrouped data. As is expected the usual Pearson statistic is no longer asymptotically x2-distributed in this situation. We propose a statistic [Qcirc] which under certain regularity conditions is asymptotically x2-distributed. We also propose a statistic Q? for the goodness-of-fit test when the class boundaries are random. The asymptotic powers of [Qcirc] and [Qcirc]? tests are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a smoothed Q‐learning algorithm for estimating optimal dynamic treatment regimes. In contrast to the Q‐learning algorithm in which nonregular inference is involved, we show that, under assumptions adopted in this paper, the proposed smoothed Q‐learning estimator is asymptotically normally distributed even when the Q‐learning estimator is not and its asymptotic variance can be consistently estimated. As a result, inference based on the smoothed Q‐learning estimator is standard. We derive the optimal smoothing parameter and propose a data‐driven method for estimating it. The finite sample properties of the smoothed Q‐learning estimator are studied and compared with several existing estimators including the Q‐learning estimator via an extensive simulation study. We illustrate the new method by analyzing data from the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness–Alzheimer's Disease (CATIE‐AD) study.  相似文献

Linear functions of order statistics (“L-estimates”) of the form Tn =under jackknifing are investigated. This paper proves that with suitable conditions on the function J, the jackknifed version Tn of the L-estimate Tn has the same limit distribution as Tn. It is also shown that the jackknife estimate of the asymptotic variance of n1/2 is consistent. Furthermore, the Berry-Esséen rate associated with asymptotic normality, and a law of the iterated logarithm of a class of jackknife L-estimates, are characterized.  相似文献

In this paper, some recent and classical tests of symmetry are modified for the case of an unknown centre. The unknown centre is estimated with its α-trimmed mean estimator. The asymptotic behaviour of the new tests is explored. The local approximate Bahadur efficiency is used to compare the tests to each other as well as to some other tests.  相似文献

We consider the estimation of a location parameter θ in a one-sample problem. A measure of the asymptotic performance of an estimator sequence {Tn} = T is given by the exponential rate of convergence to zero of the tail probability, which for consistent estimator sequences is bounded by a constant, B (θ, ?), called the Bahadur bound. We consider two consistent estimators: the maximum-likelihood estimator (mle) and a consistent estimator based on a likelihood-ratio statistic, which we call the probability-ratio estimator (pre). In order to compare the local behaviour of these estimators, we obtain Taylor series expansions in ? for B (θ, ?) and the exponential rates of the mle and pre. Finally, some numerical work is presented in which we consider a variety of underlying distributions.  相似文献

The concept of causality is naturally defined in terms of conditional distribution, however almost all the empirical works focus on causality in mean. This paper aims to propose a nonparametric statistic to test the conditional independence and Granger non-causality between two variables conditionally on another one. The test statistic is based on the comparison of conditional distribution functions using an L2 metric. We use Nadaraya–Watson method to estimate the conditional distribution functions. We establish the asymptotic size and power properties of the test statistic and we motivate the validity of the local bootstrap. We ran a simulation experiment to investigate the finite sample properties of the test and we illustrate its practical relevance by examining the Granger non-causality between S&P 500 Index returns and VIX volatility index. Contrary to the conventional t-test which is based on a linear mean-regression, we find that VIX index predicts excess returns both at short and long horizons.  相似文献

For testing the equality of K-populations against ordered alternatives a quadratic form based on two-sample scores of (K-l) pairs of adjacent samples has been suggested as an alternative to the statistic proposed by Beslow(1970). The Pitman asymptotic efficiency of the proposed statistic relative to the Breslow's statistic is found to be one or very close to one in all cases considered. The Bahadur asymptotic efficiency has also been studied and found to be at least one for the situations taken up in this paper.  相似文献

Process capability indices have been widely used to evaluate the process performance to the continuous improvement of quality and productivity. The distribution of the estimator of the process capability index C pmk is very complicated and the asymptotic distribution is proposed by Chen and Hsu [The asymptotic distribution of the processes capability index C pmk , Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 24(5) (1995), pp. 1279–1291]. However, we found a critical error for the asymptotic distribution when the population mean is not equal to the midpoint of the specification limits. In this paper, a correct version of the asymptotic distribution is given. An asymptotic confidence interval of C pmk by using the correct version of asymptotic distribution is proposed and the lower bound can be used to test if the process is capable. A simulation study of the coverage probability of the proposed confidence interval is shown to be satisfactory. The relation of six sigma technique and the index C pmk is also discussed in this paper. An asymptotic testing procedure to determine if a process is capable based on the index of C pmk is also given in this paper.  相似文献

Some asymptotic expansions not necessarily related to the central limit theorem are studied. We first observe that the smoothing inequality of Esseen implies the proximity, in the Kolmogorov distance sense, of the distributions of the random variables of two random sequences satisfying a sort of general asymptotic relation. We then present several instances of this observation. A first example, partially motivated by the the statistical theory of high precision measurements, is given by a uniform asymptotic approximation to (g(X + μ n )) n∈?, where g is some smooth function, X is a random variable and (μ n ) n∈? is a sequence going to infinity; a multivariate version is also stated and proved. We finally present a second class of examples given by a randomization of the interesting parameter in some classical asymptotic formulas; namely, a generic Laplace's type integral, randomized by the sequence (μ n X) n∈?, X being a Gamma distributed random variable.  相似文献

Motivated by Shibata’s (1980) asymptotic efficiency results this paper dis-cusses the asymptotic efficiency of the order selected by a selection procedure for an infinite order autoregressive process with nonzero mean and unob servable errors that constitute a sequence of independent Gaussian random variables with mean zero and variance σ2 The asymptotic efficiency is established for AIC–type selection criteria such as AIC’, FPE, and Sn(k). In addition, some asymptotic results about the estimators of the parameters of the process and the error–sequence are presented.  相似文献

In this article, we present the explicit expressions for the higher-order moments and cumulants of the first-order random coefficient integer-valued autoregressive (RCINAR(1)) process. The spectral and bispectral density functions are also obtained, which can characterize the RCINAR(1) process in the frequency domain. We use a frequency domain approach which is named Whittle criterion to estimate the parameters of the process. We propose a test statistic which is based on the frequency domain approach for the hypothesis test, H0: α = 0?H1: 0 < α < 1, where α is the mean of the random coefficient in the process. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic is obtained. We compare the proposed test statistic with other statistics that can test serial dependence in time series of count via a typically numerical simulation, which indicates that our proposed test statistic has a good power.  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with testing homogeneity against trend. Parsons (1979) considered the exact distribution of the test statistic based on the Wilcoxon type scores. We extend his result to the case of the general scores. Then we give a table of significance probabilities for the Fisher-Yates normal scores. We also study the asymptotic distribution of the test statis-tic based on the general scores under the null hypothesis, and the asymptotic relative efficiency against Bartholomew's likelihood ratio test assuming normality  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The sign test based on the k-tuple ranked set samples is discussed here. We first derive the distribution of the k-tuple ranked set sample sign test statistic, and then the asymptotic distribution is also obtained. We then compare its performance with its counterparts based on simple random sample and classical ranked set sample. The asymptotic relative efficiency and the power are then derived. Finally, the effect of imperfect ranking on the procedure is assessed.  相似文献

We consider the case 1 interval censorship model in which the survival time has an arbitrary distribution function F0 and the inspection time has a discrete distribution function G. In such a model one is only able to observe the inspection time and whether the value of the survival time lies before or after the inspection time. We prove the strong consistency of the generalized maximum-likelihood estimate (GMLE) of the distribution function F0 at the support points of G and its asymptotic normality and efficiency at what we call regular points. We also present a consistent estimate of the asymptotic variance at these points. The first result implies uniform strong consistency on [0, ∞) if F0 is continuous and the support of G is dense in [0, ∞). For arbitrary F0 and G, Peto (1973) and Tumbull (1976) conjectured that the convergence for the GMLE is at the usual parametric rate n½ Our asymptotic normality result supports their conjecture under our assumptions. But their conjecture was disproved by Groeneboom and Wellner (1992), who obtained the nonparametric rate ni under smoothness assumptions on the F0 and G.  相似文献
