Consider an estimation problem under the LINEX loss function in one-parameter non-regular distributions where the endpoint of the support depends on an unknown parameter. The purpose of this paper is to give sufficient conditions for a generalized Bayes estimator of a parametric function to be admissible. Also, it is shown that the main result in this paper is an extension of the quadratic loss case. Some examples are given.  相似文献

In this paper, using the asymmetric LINEX loss function we derive the risk function of the generalized Liu estimator and almost unbiased generalized Liu estimator. We also examine the risk performance of the feasible generalized Liu estimator and feasible almost unbiased generalized Liu estimator when the LINEX loss function is used.  相似文献

Abstract

Under progressive Type-II censoring, inference of stress-strength reliability (SSR) is studied for a general family of lower truncated distributions. When the lifetime models of the strength and stress variables have arbitrary and common parameters, maximum likelihood and pivotal quantities based generalized estimators of SSR are established, respectively. Confidence intervals are constructed based on generalized pivotal quantities and bootstrap technique under different parameter cases as well. In addition, to compare the equivalence of the strength and stress parameters, likelihood ratio testing of interested parameters is provided as a complementary. Simulation studies and two real-life data examples are provided to investigate the performance of proposed methods.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with using the E-Bayesian method for computing estimates of the exponentiated distribution family parameter. Based on the LINEX loss function, formulas of E-Bayesian estimation for unknown parameter are given, these estimates are derived based on a conjugate prior. Moreover, property of E-Bayesian estimation—the relationship between of E-Bayesian estimations under different prior distributions of the hyper parameters are also provided. A comparison between the new method and the corresponding maximum likelihood techniques is conducted using the Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, combined with the golfers income data practical problem are calculated, the results show that the proposed method is feasible and convenient for application.  相似文献

In this paper, we derive the exact formula of the risk function of a pre-test estimator for normal variance with the Stein-variance (PTSV) estimator when the asymmetric LINEX loss function is used. Fixing the critical value of the pre-test to unity which is a suggested critical value in some sense, we examine numerically the risk performance of the PTSV estimator based on the risk function derived. Our numerical results show that although the PTSV estimator does not dominate the usual variance estimator when under-estimation is more severe than over-estimation, the PTSV estimator dominates the usual variance estimator when over-estimation is more severe. It is also shown that the dominance of the PTSV estimator over the original Stein-variance estimator is robust to the extension from the quadratic loss function to the LINEX loss function.  相似文献

For the hierarchical Poisson and gamma model, we calculate the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter of the Poisson distribution under Stein's loss function which penalizes gross overestimation and gross underestimation equally and the corresponding Posterior Expected Stein's Loss (PESL). We also obtain the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter under the squared error loss and the corresponding PESL. Moreover, we obtain the empirical Bayes estimators of the parameter of the Poisson distribution with a conjugate gamma prior by two methods. In numerical simulations, we have illustrated: The two inequalities of the Bayes posterior estimators and the PESLs; the moment estimators and the Maximum Likelihood Estimators (MLEs) are consistent estimators of the hyperparameters; the goodness-of-fit of the model to the simulated data. The numerical results indicate that the MLEs are better than the moment estimators when estimating the hyperparameters. Finally, we exploit the attendance data on 314 high school juniors from two urban high schools to illustrate our theoretical studies.  相似文献

LetX 1,…,X p be p(≥2)independent random variables, where each X.has a distribution belonging to a one parameter truncated power series

distribution. The problem is to estimate simultaneously the unknown parameters under asymmetric loss developed by James and Stein (Proc. Fourth Berkeley Symp. Math. Statist. Prob. 1, 361-380). Several new classes of dominating estimators are obtained by solving a certain difference inequality.  相似文献

In this paper, within the framework of a Bayesian model, we consider the problem of sequentially estimating the intensity parameter of a homogeneous Poisson process with a linear exponential (LINEX) loss function and a fixed cost per unit time. An asymptotically pointwise optimal (APO) rule is proposed. It is shown to be asymptotically optimal for the arbitrary priors and asymptotically non-deficient for the conjugate priors in a similar sense of Bickel and Yahav [Asymptotically pointwise optimal procedures in sequential analysis, in Proceedings of the Fifth Berkeley Symposium on Mathematical Statistics and Probability, Vol. 1, University of California Press, Berkeley, CA, 1967, pp. 401–413; Asymptotically optimal Bayes and minimax procedures in sequential estimation, Ann. Math. Statist. 39 (1968), pp. 442–456] and Woodroofe [A.P.O. rules are asymptotically non-deficient for estimation with squared error loss, Z. Wahrsch. verw. Gebiete 58 (1981), pp. 331–341], respectively. The proposed APO rule is illustrated using a real data set.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the minimax estimation of a scale parameter under the quadratic loss function where the family of densities is location-scale type. We obtain results for the case when the scale parameter is bounded below by a known constant. Implications for the estimation of a lower-bounded scale parameter of an exponential distribution are presented under unknown location. Furthermore, classes of improved minimax estimators are derived for the restricted parameter using the Integral Expression for Risk Difference (IERD) approach of Kubokawa (1994 Kubokawa, T. (1994). A unified approach to improving equivariant estimators. Ann. Stat. 22:290299.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). These classes are shown to include some existing estimators from literature.  相似文献

The aim of the paper is to study the pooled estimator of the shape parameter of the three parameter gamma distribution when k independent samples are available. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the pooled estimator are given and the small as well as the large sample properties are studied. The harmonic mean of the k estimators of the independent samples is proposed in the place of the pooled estimator, in the case in which the latter does not exist.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with estimation of location and scale parameters of an exponential distribution when the location parameter is bounded above by a known constant. We propose estimators which are better than the standard estimators in the unrestricted case with respect to the suitable choice of LINEX loss. The admissibility of the modified Pitman estimators with respect to the LINEX loss is proved. Finally the theory developed is applied to the problem of estimating the location and scale parameters of two exponential distributions when the location parameters are ordered.  相似文献

Suppose a subset of populations is selected from k exponential populations with unknown location parameters θ1, θ2, …, θk and common known scale parameter σ. We consider the estimation of the location parameter of the selected population and the average worth of the selected subset under an asymmetric LINEX loss function. We show that the natural estimator of these parameters is biased and find the uniformly minimum risk-unbiased (UMRU) estimator of these parameters. In the case of k = 2, we find the minimax estimator of the location parameter of the smallest selected population. Furthermore, we compare numerically the risk of UMRU, minimax, and the natural estimators.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating the two parameters of the discrete Good distribution. We first show that the sufficient statistics for the parameters are the arithmetic and the geometric means. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLE's) of the parameters are obtained by solving numerically a system of equations involving the Lerch zeta function and the sufficient statistics. We find an expression for the asymptotic variance-covariance matrix of the MLE's, which can be evaluated numerically. We show that the probability mass function satisfies a simple recurrence equation linear in the two parameters, and propose the quadratic distance estimator (QDE) which can be computed with an ineratively reweighted least-squares algorithm. the QDE is easy to calculate and admits a simple expression for its asymptotic variance-covariance matrix. We compute this matrix for the MLE's and the QDE for various values of the parameters and see that the QDE has very high asymptotic efficiency. Finally, we present a numerical example.  相似文献

Continuing increases in computing power and availability mean that many maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) problems previously thought intractable or too computationally difficult can now be tackled numerically. However, ML parameter estimation for distributions whose only analytical expression is as quantile functions has received little attention. Numerical MLE procedures for parameters of new families of distributions, the g-and-k and the generalized g-and-h distributions, are presented and investigated here. Simulation studies are included, and the appropriateness of using asymptotic methods examined. Because of the generality of these distributions, the investigations are not only into numerical MLE for these distributions, but are also an initial investigation into the performance and problems for numerical MLE applied to quantile-defined distributions in general. Datasets are also fitted using the procedures here. Results indicate that sample sizes significantly larger than 100 should be used to obtain reliable estimates through maximum likelihood.  相似文献

A rigorous derivation is given of the asymptotic normality of the MLE of a linear functional relationship. Using these results, it is shown that the test proposed by VILLEGAS (1964) has Pitman efficiency zero w.r.t, a test based on the asymptotic distribution of the MLE.  相似文献

In this paper, attention is focused on estimation of the location parameter in the double exponential case using a weighted linear combination of the sample median and pairs of order statistics, with symmetric distance to both sides from the sample median. Minimizing with respect to weights and distances we get smaller asymptotic variance in the second order. If the number of pairs is taken as infinite and the distances as null we attain the least asymptotic variance in this class of estimators. The Pitman estimator is also noted. Similarly improved estimators are scanned over their probability of concentration to investigate its bound. Numerical comparison of the estimators is shown.  相似文献

In this paper we have considered the problem of finding admissible estimates for a fairly general class of parametric functions in the so called “non-regular” type of densities. The admissibility of generalized Bayes and Pitman estimates of functions of parameters have been established under entropy loss function.  相似文献
