ABSTRACT

Elsewhere, I have promoted (univariate continuous) “transformation of scale” (ToS) distributions having densities of the form 2g?1(x)) where g is a symmetric distribution and Π is a transformation function with a special property. Here, I develop bivariate (readily multivariate) ToS distributions. Univariate ToS distributions have a transformation of random variable relationship with Azzalini-type skew-symmetric distributions; the bivariate ToS distribution here arises from marginal variable transformation of a particular form of bivariate skew-symmetric distribution. Examples are given, as are basic properties—unimodality, a covariance property, random variate generation—and connections with a bivariate inverse Gaussian distribution are pointed out.  相似文献

Assuming that (X1, X2) has a bivariate elliptical distribution, we obtain an exact expression for the joint probability density function (pdf) as well as the corresponding conditional pdfs of X1 and X(2) ? max?{X1, X2}. The problem is motivated by an application in financial markets. Exchangeable random variables are discussed in more detail. Two special cases of the elliptical distributions that is the normal and the student’s t models are investigated. For illustrative purposes, a real data set on the total personal income in California and New York is analyzed using the results obtained. Finally, some concluding remarks and further works are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, by assuming that (X, Y 1, Y 2)T has a trivariate elliptical distribution, we derive the exact joint distribution of X and a linear combination of order statistics from (Y 1, Y 2)T and show that it is a mixture of unified bivariate skew-elliptical distributions. We then derive the corresponding marginal and conditional distributions for the special case of t kernel. We also present these results for an exchangeable case with t kernel and illustrate the established results with an air-pollution data.  相似文献

Let (X 1, X 2) be a bivariate L p -norm generalized symmetrized Dirichlet (LpGSD) random vector with parameters α12. If p12=2, then (X 1, X 2) is a spherical random vector. The estimation of the conditional distribution of Z u *:=X 2 | X 1>u for u large is of some interest in statistical applications. When (X 1, X 2) is a spherical random vector with associated random radius in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction, the distribution of Z u * can be approximated by a Gaussian distribution. Surprisingly, the same Gaussian approximation holds also for Z u :=X 2| X 1=u. In this paper, we are interested in conditional limit results in terms of convergence of the density functions considering a d-dimensional LpGSD random vector. Stating our results for the bivariate setup, we show that the density function of Z u * and Z u can be approximated by the density function of a Kotz type I LpGSD distribution, provided that the associated random radius has distribution function in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction. Further, we present two applications concerning the asymptotic behaviour of concomitants of order statistics of bivariate Dirichlet samples and the estimation of the conditional quantile function.  相似文献

Consider a two-dimensional discrete random variable (X, Y) with possible values 1, 2, …, I for X and 1, 2, …, J for Y. For specifying the distribution of (X, Y), suppose both conditional distributions, of X given Y and of Y given X, are provided. Under this setting, we present here different ways of measuring discrepancy between incompatible conditional distributions in the finite discrete case. In the process, we also suggest different ways of defining the most nearly compatible distributions in incompatible cases. Many new divergence measures are discussed along with those that are already known for determining the most nearly compatible joint distribution P. Finally, a comparative study is carried out between all these divergence measures as some examples.  相似文献

Let X(1)X(2)≤···≤X(n) be the order statistics from independent and identically distributed random variables {Xi, 1≤in} with a common absolutely continuous distribution function. In this work, first a new characterization of distributions based on order statistics is presented. Next, we review some conditional expectation properties of order statistics, which can be used to establish some equivalent forms for conditional expectations for sum of random variables based on order statistics. Using these equivalent forms, some known results can be extended immediately.  相似文献

Fitting a linear regression for a response variable by minimising the sum of absolute deviations, L1 regression, may be viewed as a maximum likelihood procedure applied to the Laplace distribution. An interesting bivariate case is where the conditional distribution of the response X2 given X1 and the marginal distribution of the explanatory variable X1 are both Laplace. In this context we show there is information to distinguish the direction of dependence between X1 and X2 from observations. That is we may distinguish the model in which X1 is dependent on X2 from that in which X2 is dependent on X1 This is not true for L2 regression based on the Normal distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider a (k + 1)n-dimensional elliptically contoured random vector (XT1, X2T, …, XTk, ZT)T = (X11, …, X1n, …, Xk1, …, Xkn, Z1, …, Zn)T and derive the distribution of concomitant of multivariate order statistics arising from X1, X2, …, Xk. Specially, we derive a mixture representation for concomitant of bivariate order statistics. The joint distribution of the concomitant of bivariate order statistics is also obtained. Finally, the usefulness of our result is illustrated by a real-life data.  相似文献

Abstract

Motivated by Caginalp and Caginalp [Physica A—Statistical Mechanics and Its Applications, 499, 2018, 457–471], we derive the exact distribution of X/Y conditioned on X?>?0, Y?>?0 for more than ten classes of distributions, including the bivariate t, bivariate Cauchy, bivariate Lomax, Arnold and Strauss’ bivariate exponential, Balakrishna and Shiji’s bivariate exponential, Mohsin et al.’s bivariate exponential, Morgenstern type bivariate exponential, bivariate gamma exponential and bivariate alpha skew normal distributions. The results can be useful in finance and other areas.  相似文献

Abstract

We introduce here the truncated version of the unified skew-normal (SUN) distributions. By considering a special truncations for both univariate and multivariate cases, we derive the joint distribution of consecutive order statistics X(r, ..., r + k) = (X(r), ..., X(r + K))T from an exchangeable n-dimensional normal random vector X. Further we show that the conditional distributions of X(r + j, ..., r + k) given X(r, ..., r + j ? 1), X(r, ..., r + k) given (X(r) > t)?and X(r, ..., r + k) given (X(r + k) < t) are special types of singular SUN distributions. We use these results to determine some measures in the reliability theory such as the mean past life (MPL) function and mean residual life (MRL) function.  相似文献

The authors establish the joint distribution of the sum X and the maximum Y of IID exponential random variables. They derive exact formuli describing the random vector (X, Y), including its joint PDF, CDF, and other characteristics; marginal and conditional distributions; moments and related parameters; and stochastic representations leading to further properties of infinite divisibility and self-decomposability. The authors also discuss parameter estimation and include an example from climatology that illustrates the modeling potential of this new bivariate model.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector whose distribution function H(x, y) belongs to the class of bivariate extreme-value distributions. If F1 and F2 are the marginals of X and Y, then H(x, y) = C{F1(x),F2(y)}, where C is a bivariate extreme-value dependence function. This paper gives the joint distribution of the random variables Z = {log F1(X)}/{log F1(X)F2(Y)} and W = C{F1{(X),F2(Y)}. Using this distribution, an algorithm to generate random variables having bivariate extreme-value distribution is présentés. Furthermore, it is shown that for any bivariate extreme-value dependence function C, the distribution of the random variable W = C{F1(X),F2(Y)} belongs to a monoparametric family of distributions. This property is used to derive goodness-of-fit statistics to determine whether a copula belongs to an extreme-value family.  相似文献

Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector with joint distribution function FX, Y(x, y) = C(F(x), G(y)), where C is a copula and F and G are marginal distributions of X and Y, respectively. Suppose that (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, …, n is a random sample from (X, Y) but we are able to observe only the data consisting of those pairs (Xi, Yi) for which Xi ? Yi. We denote such pairs as (X*i, Yi*), i = 1, 2, …, ν, where ν is a random variable. The main problem of interest is to express the distribution function FX, Y(x, y) and marginal distributions F and G with the distribution function of observed random variables X* and Y*. It is shown that if X and Y are exchangeable with marginal distribution function F, then F can be uniquely determined by the distributions of X* and Y*. It is also shown that if X and Y are independent and absolutely continuous, then F and G can be expressed through the distribution functions of X* and Y* and the stress–strength reliability P{X ? Y}. This allows also to estimate P{X ? Y} with the truncated observations (X*i, Yi*). The copula of bivariate random vector (X*, Y*) is also derived.  相似文献

Given a random vector (X1,…, Xn) for which the univariate and bivariate marginal distributions belong to some specified families of distributions, we present a procedure for constructing families of multivariate distributions with the specified univariate and bivariate margins. Some general properties of the resulting families of multivariate distributions are reviewed. This procedure is illustrated by generalizing the bivariate Plackett (1965) and Clayton (1978) distributions to three dimensions. In addition to providing rich families of models for data analysis, this method of construction provides a convenient way of simulating observations from multivariate distributions with specific types of univariate and bivariate marginal distributions. A general algorithm for simulating random observations from these families of multivariate distributions is presented  相似文献

Let X1Xn be a random sample from an absolutely continuous distribution with the corresponding order statistics X1:nX2:nXn:n. A complete solution of the problem, posed in 1967 by T. Ferguson, of determining the distribution by linearity of regression of Xk+2:n with respect to Xk:n is given. The only possible distributions are of the exponential, power and Pareto type. A linear regression relation for exponents of order statistics is also considered.  相似文献

In this paper, by considering a (3n+1) -dimensional random vector (X0, XT, YT, ZT)T having a multivariate elliptical distribution, we derive the exact joint distribution of (X0, aTX(n), bTY[n], cTZ[n])T, where a, b, c∈?n, X(n)=(X(1), …, X(n))T, X(1)<···<X(n), is the vector of order statistics arising from X, and Y[n]=(Y[1], …, Y[n])T and Z[n]=(Z[1], …, Z[n])T denote the vectors of concomitants corresponding to X(n) ((Y[r], Z[r])T, for r=1, …, n, is the vector of bivariate concomitants corresponding to X(r)). We then present an alternate approach for the derivation of the exact joint distribution of (X0, X(r), Y[r], Z[r])T, for r=1, …, n. We show that these joint distributions can be expressed as mixtures of four-variate unified skew-elliptical distributions and these mixture forms facilitate the prediction of X(r), say, based on the concomitants Y[r] and Z[r]. Finally, we illustrate the usefulness of our results by a real data.  相似文献

A new bivariate negative binomial distribution, and four bivariate versions of the Sichel distribution, are defined and their properties given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A bivariate distribution, whose marginal distributions are truncated Poisson distributions, is developed as a product of truncated Poisson distributions and a multiplicative factor. The multiplicative factor takes into account the correlation, either positive or negative, between the two random variables. The distributional properties of this model are studied and the model is fitted to a real life bivariate data.  相似文献

In a relapse clinical trial patients who have recovered from some recurrent disease (e.g.,ulcer or cancer) are examined at a number of predetermined times. A relapse can be detected either at one of these planned inspections or at a spontaneous visit initiated by the patient because of symptoms. In the first case the observations of the time to relapse, X, is interval-censored by two predetermined time-points. In the second case the upper endpoint of the interval is an observation of the time to symptoms,Y . To model the progression of the disease we use a partially observable Markov process. This approach results in a bivariate phase-type distribution for the joint distribution of (X,Y). It is a flexible model which contains several natural distributions for X, and allows the conditional distributions of the marginals to smoothly depend on each other. To estimate the distributions involved we develop an EM-algorithm. The estimation procedure is evaluated and compared with a non-parametric method in a couple of examples based on simulated data.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of bivariate lifetime distributions. Let {Xi}i ? 1 and {Yi}i ? 1 be two independent sequences of independent and identically distributed positive valued random variables. Define T1 = min?(X1, …, XM) and T2 = min?(Y1, …, YN), where (M, N) has a discrete bivariate phase-type distribution, independent of {Xi}i ? 1 and {Yi}i ? 1. The joint survival function of (T1, T2) is studied.  相似文献
