This paper has two parts. In the first part some results for generalized gamma convolutions (GGCs) are reviewed. A GGC is a limit distribution for sums of independent gamma variables. In the second part, bivariate gamma distributions and bivariate GGCs are considered. New bivariate gamma distributions are derived from shot-noise models. The remarkable property hyperbolic complete monotonicity (HCM) for a function is considered both in the univariate case and in the bivariate case.  相似文献

Bathtub distributions are characterized by bathtub failure rate functions . These are possibly more realisitic models than the monotone failure rate models . A systematic account of such distributions is not available and this review aims to give such an account . We give some easily verifiable conditions to check the bathtub property of a distribution along with methods to construct such distributions . We also discuss some stochastic and reliablity mechanisms which lead to bathtub distributions. These include mixtures ( stochastic failure rate models ) , series system , stochastic differential equation models and so on. We also review inference on bathtub distributions. The paper concludes with a rather exhaustive list of bathtub distributions.  相似文献

Summary In this paper a class of measures of monotone dependence (concordance/discordance) for arbitrary (not necessarily continuous) bivariate distributions is considered. It is shown that the corresponding sampling index of concordance/discordance (which is the most natural estimator of the population index) converges in law to a normal distribution. A Berry-Esséen bound for its rate of convergence is given. Finally, a consistent estimator of the asymptotic variance of the sampling concordance/ discordance index is proposed. This last result is essential for constructing confidence intervals and testing hypotheses on the population measure of monotone dependence.  相似文献

A simple result concerning the canonical expansions of mixed bivariate distributions is considered. This result is then applied to analyze the correlation structures of the Bates-Neyman accident proneness model and its generalization, to derive probability inequalities based on the concept of positive dependence, and to construct a bivariate beta distribution with positive correlation coefficient applicable in computer simulation experiments. The mixture formulation of the conditional distribution of this class of mixed bivariate distributions is used to define and generate first-order autoregressive gamma and negative binomial sequences.  相似文献

This article describes two bivariate geometric distributions. We investigate characterizations of bivariate geometric distributions using conditional failure rates and study properties of the bivariate geometric distributions. The bivariate models are fitted to real-life data using the Method of Moments, Maximum Likelihood, and Bayes Estimators. Two methods of moments estimators, in each bivariate geometric model, are compared and evaluated for their performance in terms of bias vector and covariance matrix. This comparison is done through a Monte Carlo simulation. Chi-square goodness-of-fit tests are used to evaluate model performance.  相似文献

In this article, we develop two general classes of discrete bivariate distributions. We derive general formulas for the joint distributions belonging to the classes. The obtained formulas for the joint distributions are very general in the sense that new families of distributions can be generated just by specifying the “baseline seed distributions.” The dependence structures of the bivariate distributions belonging to the proposed classes, along with basic statistical properties, are also discussed. New families of discrete bivariate distributions are generated from the classes. Furthermore, to assess the usefulness of the proposed classes, two discrete bivariate distributions generated from the classes are applied to analyze a real dataset and the results are compared with those obtained from conventional models.  相似文献

In this paper, bivariate binomial distributions generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distributions are obtained and studied. Representation of the bivariate binomial distribution generated by a convex combination of extreme bivariate Bernoulli distributions as a mixture of distributions in the class of bivariate binomial distribution generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distribution is obtained. A subfamily of bivariate binomial distributions exhibiting the property of positive and negative dependence is constructed. Some results on positive dependence notions as it relates to the bivariate binomial distribution generated by extreme bivariate Bernoulli distribution and a linear combination of such distributions are obtained.  相似文献

The purpose of this article is to study the bivariate distributions with second kind of beta conditionals, presented by Castillo and Sarabia, from a reliability point of view. The reliability functions, viz the survival function, the failure rate and mean residual life function, are derived and their monotonicity is discussed for the univariate model as well as the conditional model. Finally, Clayton’s association measure is obtained in terms of the hazard gradient and its value, in the case of our model, is derived.  相似文献

We propose a test for exponentiality against the class of non-exponential distributions having monotone failure rate averages. The test statistic, which is a U-statistic and hence asymptotically normally distributed, is much simpler than its competitors yet compares favorably with them in efficiency and power comparisons.  相似文献

In the presence of univariate censoring, a class of nonparametric estimators is proposed for linear functionals of a bivariate distribution of paired failure times. The estimators are shown to be root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. An adjusted empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic is developed and proved to follow a chi-square distribution asymptotically. Two types of confidence intervals, based on the normal approximation method and the empirical likelihood method, respectively, are constructed to make inference about the linear functionals. Their performance is evaluated in several simulation studies and a real example.  相似文献

Copula, marginal distributions and model selection: a Bayesian note   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Copula functions and marginal distributions are combined to produce multivariate distributions. We show advantages of estimating all parameters of these models using the Bayesian approach, which can be done with standard Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. Deviance-based model selection criteria are also discussed when applied to copula models since they are invariant under monotone increasing transformations of the marginals. We focus on the deviance information criterion. The joint estimation takes into account all dependence structure of the parameters’ posterior distributions in our chosen model selection criteria. Two Monte Carlo studies are conducted to show that model identification improves when the model parameters are jointly estimated. We study the Bayesian estimation of all unknown quantities at once considering bivariate copula functions and three known marginal distributions.  相似文献

The modeling and analysis of lifetime data in which the main endpoints are the times when an event of interest occurs is of great interest in medical studies. In these studies, it is common that two or more lifetimes associated with the same unit such as the times to deterioration levels or the times to reaction to a treatment in pairs of organs like lungs, kidneys, eyes or ears. In medical applications, it is also possible that a cure rate is present and needed to be modeled with lifetime data with long-term survivors. This paper presented a comparative study under a Bayesian approach among some existing continuous and discrete bivariate distributions such as the bivariate exponential distributions and the bivariate geometric distributions in presence of cure rate, censored data and covariates. In presence of lifetimes related to cured patients, it is assumed standard mixture cure rate models in the data analysis. The posterior summaries of interest are obtained using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. To illustrate the proposed methodology two real medical data sets are considered.  相似文献

The Laplace distribution is considered as a better choice for modeling whenever data exhibit high kurtosis and heavier tails than Gaussian tails. Even though this is the case, not much work has been done on bivariate Laplace distribution. In this work, we introduce and study a new class of bivariate distributions called bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution, containing bivariate Laplace distributions. Three characterizations of bivariate semi α-Laplace distribution are obtained. Relation with bivariate semi stable distribution is established. An autoregressive model with bivariate semi α-Laplace marginal distributions is developed.  相似文献

It is of interest in some applications to determine whether there is a relationship between a hazard rate function (or a cumulative incidence function) and a mark variable which is only observed at uncensored failure times. We develop nonparametric tests for this problem when the mark variable is continuous. Tests are developed for the null hypothesis that the mark-specific hazard rate is independent of the mark versus ordered and two-sided alternatives expressed in terms of mark-specific hazard functions and mark-specific cumulative incidence functions. The test statistics are based on functionals of a bivariate test process equal to a weighted average of differences between a Nelson-Aalen-type estimator of the mark-specific cumulative hazard function and a nonparametric estimator of this function under the null hypothesis. The weight function in the test process can be chosen so that the test statistics are asymptotically distribution-free. Asymptotically correct critical values are obtained through a simple simulation procedure. The testing procedures are shown to perform well in numerical studies, and are illustrated with an AIDS clinical trial example. Specifically, the tests are used to assess if the instantaneous or absolute risk of treatment failure depends on the amount of accumulation of drug resistance mutations in a subject's HIV virus. This assessment helps guide development of anti-HIV therapies that surmount the problem of drug resistance.  相似文献

The results of this paper are the continuation of the research presented by Bieniek [Optimal bounds for the mean of the total time on test for distributions with decreasing generalized failure rate. Statistics. 2016;50:1206–1220]. We consider the remaining total time on test after a given failure in a life test experiment. We derive sharp upper bounds on the mean of the total time on test optimal in the class of distributions with increasing generalized failure rate with respect to generalized Pareto distributions. Specific results are obtained for distributions with increasing density and increasing failure rate. We also provide exemplary numerical values of the obtained bounds and we compare them with the corresponding bounds for distributions with decreasing generalized failure rate.  相似文献

In this paper, form-invariant weighted distributions are considered in an exponential family. The class of bivariate distribution with invariant property is identified under exponential weight function. The class includes some of the custom bivariate models. The form-invariant multivariate normal distributions are obtained under a quadratic weight function.  相似文献

Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution is one of the most popular absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Recently, Kundu and Gupta [A class of absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Statist Methodol. 2010;7:464–477] introduced Block and Basu bivariate Weibull (BBBW) distribution, which is a generalization of the Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution, and provided the maximum likelihood estimators using EM algorithm. In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the BBBW distribution. The Bayes estimators are obtained with respect to the squared error loss function, and the prior distributions allow for prior dependence among the unknown parameters. Prior independence also can be obtained as a special case. It is observed that the Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose to use the importance sampling technique to compute the Bayes estimates and also to construct the associated highest posterior density credible intervals. The analysis of two data sets has been performed for illustrative purposes. The performances of the proposed estimators are quite satisfactory. Finally, we generalize the results for the multivariate case.  相似文献

The Weibull, log-logistic and log-normal distributions are extensively used to model time-to-event data. The Weibull family accommodates only monotone hazard rates, whereas the log-logistic and log-normal are widely used to model unimodal hazard functions. The increasing availability of lifetime data with a wide range of characteristics motivate us to develop more flexible models that accommodate both monotone and nonmonotone hazard functions. One such model is the exponentiated Weibull distribution which not only accommodates monotone hazard functions but also allows for unimodal and bathtub shape hazard rates. This distribution has demonstrated considerable potential in univariate analysis of time-to-event data. However, the primary focus of many studies is rather on understanding the relationship between the time to the occurrence of an event and one or more covariates. This leads to a consideration of regression models that can be formulated in different ways in survival analysis. One such strategy involves formulating models for the accelerated failure time family of distributions. The most commonly used distributions serving this purpose are the Weibull, log-logistic and log-normal distributions. In this study, we show that the exponentiated Weibull distribution is closed under the accelerated failure time family. We then formulate a regression model based on the exponentiated Weibull distribution, and develop large sample theory for statistical inference. We also describe a Bayesian approach for inference. Two comparative studies based on real and simulated data sets reveal that the exponentiated Weibull regression can be valuable in adequately describing different types of time-to-event data.  相似文献

Generalized exponential distribution has been used quite effectively to model positively skewed lifetime data as an alternative to the well known Weibull or gamma distributions. In this paper we introduce an absolute continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution by using a simple transformation from a well known bivariate exchangeable distribution. The marginal distributions of the proposed bivariate generalized exponential distributions are generalized exponential distributions. The joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in closed forms. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution can be obtained using Clayton copula with generalized exponential distribution as marginals. We derive different properties of this new distribution. It is a five-parameter distribution, and the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms. We propose some alternative estimators, which can be obtained quite easily, and they can be used as initial guesses to compute the maximum likelihood estimates. One data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes. Finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

The bivariate distributions of three pairs of ratios of in¬dependent noncentral chi-square random variables are considered. These ratios arise in the problem of computing the joint power function of simultaneous F-tests in balanced ANOVA and ANCOVA. The distributions obtained are generalizations to the noncentral case of existing results in the literature. Of particular note is the bivariate noncentral F distribution, which generalizes a special case of Krishnaiah*s (1964,1965) bivariate central F distribution. Explicit formulae for the cdf's of these distribu¬tions are given, along with computational procedures  相似文献
