In this paper, a new compounding distribution, named the Weibull–Poisson distribution is introduced. The shape of failure rate function of the new compounding distribution is flexible, it can be decreasing, increasing, upside-down bathtub-shaped or unimodal. A comprehensive mathematical treatment of the proposed distribution and expressions of its density, cumulative distribution function, survival function, failure rate function, the kth raw moment and quantiles are provided. Maximum likelihood method using EM algorithm is developed for parameter estimation. Asymptotic properties of the maximum likelihood estimates are discussed, and intensive simulation studies are conducted for evaluating the performance of parameter estimation. The use of the proposed distribution is illustrated with examples.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper we introduce a new two-parameter discrete distribution which may be useful for modeling count data. Additionally, the probability mass function is very simple and it may have a zero vertex. We show that the new discrete distribution is a particular solution of a multiple Poisson process, and that it is infinitely divisible. Additionally, various structural properties of the new discrete distribution are derived. We also discuss two methods (moments and maximum likelihood) to estimate the model parameters. The usefulness of the proposed distribution is illustrated by means of real data sets to prove its versatility in practical applications.  相似文献

In this paper, we further study the Conway–Maxwell Poisson distribution having one more parameter than the Poisson distribution and compare it with the Poisson distribution with respect to some stochastic orderings used in reliability theory. Likelihood ratio test and the score test are developed to test the importance of this additional parameter. Simulation studies are carried out to examine the performance of the two tests. Two examples are presented, one showing overdispersion and the other showing underdispersion, to illustrate the procedure. It is shown that the COM-Poisson model fits better than the generalized Poisson distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A new discrete probability distribution with integer support on (?∞, ∞) is proposed as a discrete analog of the continuous logistic distribution. Some of its important distributional and reliability properties are established. Its relationship with some known distributions is discussed. Parameter estimation by maximum-likelihood method is presented. Simulation is done to investigate properties of maximum-likelihood estimators. Real life application of the proposed distribution as empirical model is considered by conducting a comparative data fitting with Skellam distribution, Kemp's discrete normal, Roy's discrete normal, and discrete Laplace distribution.  相似文献

The Poisson–Lindley distribution is a compound discrete distribution that can be used as an alternative to other discrete distributions, like the negative binomial. This paper develops approximate one-sided and equal-tailed two-sided tolerance intervals for the Poisson–Lindley distribution. Practical applications of the Poisson–Lindley distribution frequently involve large samples, thus we utilize large-sample Wald confidence intervals in the construction of our tolerance intervals. A coverage study is presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed tolerance intervals. The tolerance intervals are also demonstrated using two real data sets. The R code developed for our discussion is briefly highlighted and included in the tolerance package.  相似文献

In this paper, a new survival cure rate model is introduced considering the Yule–Simon distribution [12 H.A. Simon, On a class of skew distribution functions, Biometrika 42 (1955), pp. 425440.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]] to model the number of concurrent causes. We study some properties of this distribution and the model arising when the distribution of the competing causes is the Weibull model. We call this distribution the Weibull–Yule–Simon distribution. Maximum likelihood estimation is conducted for model parameters. A small scale simulation study is conducted indicating satisfactory parameter recovery by the estimation approach. Results are applied to a real data set (melanoma) illustrating the fact that the model proposed can outperform traditional alternative models in terms of model fitting.  相似文献

A new class of distributions called the log-logistic Weibull–Poisson distribution is introduced and its properties are explored. This new distribution represents a more flexible model for lifetime data. Some statistical properties of the proposed distribution including the expansion of the density function, quantile function, hazard and reverse hazard functions, moments, conditional moments, moment generating function, skewness and kurtosis are presented. Mean deviations, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, Rényi entropy and distribution of the order statistics are derived. Maximum likelihood estimation technique is used to estimate the model parameters. A simulation study is conducted to examine the bias, mean square error of the maximum likelihood estimators and width of the confidence interval for each parameter and finally applications of the model to real data sets are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed distribution.  相似文献

The Yule–Simon distribution has been out of the radar of the Bayesian community, so far. In this note, we propose an explicit Gibbs sampling scheme when a Gamma prior is chosen for the shape parameter. The performance of the algorithm is illustrated with simulation studies, including count data regression, and a real data application to text analysis. We compare our proposal to the frequentist counterparts showing better performance of our algorithm when a small sample size is considered.  相似文献

It is also shown that our proposed skew-normal model subsumes many other well-known skew-normal model that exists in the literature. Recent work on a new two-parameter generalized skew-normal model has received a lot of attention. This paper presents a new generalized Balakrishnan type skew–normal distribution by introducing two shape parameters. We also provide some useful results for this new generalization. It is also shown that our proposed skew–normal model subsumes the original Balakrishnan skew–normal model (2002) as well as other well–known skew–normal models as special cases. The resulting flexible model can be expected to fit a wider variety of data structures than either of the models involving a single skewing mechanism. For illustrative purposes, a famed data set on IQ scores has been used to exhibit the efficacy of the proposed model.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to develop a Bayesian analysis for the right-censored survival data when immune or cured individuals may be present in the population from which the data is taken. In our approach the number of competing causes of the event of interest follows the Conway–Maxwell–Poisson distribution which generalizes the Poisson distribution. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are used to develop a Bayesian procedure for the proposed model. Also, some discussions on the model selection and an illustration with a real data set are considered.  相似文献

A new lifetime model, which extends the Fréchet distribution called the generalized transmuted Fréchet distribution is proposed and studied. Various of its structural properties including ordinary and incomplete moments, generating function, residual and reversed residual lifes, order statistics and probability weighted moments are derived. Two characterization theorems are presented. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate the model parameters. The flexibility of the new distribution is illustrated using a real data set. It can serve as an alternative model to other lifetime models available in the literature for modeling positive real data in many areas.  相似文献

We introduce an absolutely continuous bivariate generalization of the Topp–Leone distribution, which is a special member of the proportional reversed hazard family using a one-parameter bivariate exchangeable distribution. We show that a copula approach could also be used in defining the bivariate Topp–Leone distribution. The marginal distributions of the new bivariate distribution have also Topp–Leone distributions. We study its distributional and dependence properties. We estimate the parameters by maximum-likelihood procedure, perform a simulation study on the estimators, and apply them to a real data set. Furthermore, we give a way of generating bivariate distributions using the proposed distribution.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper proposes a new model for autoregressive time series of counts in terms of a convolution of Poisson and negative binomial random variables, known as Poisson–negative binomial (PNB) distribution. The corresponding first-order integer valued time series models are developed and their properties are discussed. The geometric PNB and the geometric semi PNB distributions are also introduced and studied.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the conditional Koziol–Green model of Braekers and Veraverbeke [2008. A conditional Koziol–Green model under dependent censoring. Statist. Probab. Lett., accepted for publication] in which they generalized the Koziol–Green model of Veraverbeke and Cadarso Suárez [2000. Estimation of the conditional distribution in a conditional Koziol–Green model. Test 9, 97–122] by assuming that the association between a censoring time and a time until an event is described by a known Archimedean copula function. They got in this way, an informative censoring model with two different types of informative censoring. Braekers and Veraverbeke [2008. A conditional Koziol–Green model under dependent censoring. Statist. Probab. Lett., accepted for publication] derived in this model a non-parametric Koziol–Green estimator for the conditional distribution function of the time until an event, for which they showed the uniform consistency and the asymptotic normality. In this paper we extend their results and prove the weak convergence of the process associated to this estimator. Furthermore we show that the conditional Koziol–Green estimator is asymptotically more efficient in this model than the general copula-graphic estimator of Braekers and Veraverbeke [2005. A copula-graphic estimator for the conditional survival function under dependent censoring. Canad. J. Statist. 33, 429–447]. As last result, we construct an asymptotic confidence band for the conditional Koziol–Green estimator. Through a simulation study, we investigate the small sample properties of this asymptotic confidence band. Afterwards we apply this estimator and its confidence band on a practical data set.  相似文献

When the finite population ‘totals’ are estimated for individual areas, they do not necessarily add up to the known ‘total’ for all areas. Benchmarking (BM) is a technique used to ensure that the totals for all areas match the grand total, which can be obtained from an independent source. BM is desirable to practitioners of survey sampling. BM shifts the small-area estimators to accommodate the constraint. In doing so, it can provide increased precision to the small-area estimators of the finite population means or totals. The Scott–Smith model is used to benchmark the finite population means of small areas. This is a one-way random effects model for a superpopulation, and it is computationally convenient to use a Bayesian approach. We illustrate our method by estimating body mass index using data in the third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Several properties of the benchmarked small-area estimators are obtained using a simulation study.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to estimate the parameters of the location–scale distribution family. As a special case, the method is used for estimating the parameters of the normal distribution and Cauchy distribution. For the Cauchy distribution, neither the moment estimation method nor the maximum likelihood estimation method works properly for estimating the parameters. The quantiles for obtaining confidence intervals and point estimates for the parameters of the two-parameter Cauchy distribution are given in the paper. It is shown that the estimators obtained in this paper are unbiased with respect to the median and possess some optimal properties.  相似文献

In this note we consider the equality of the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE) and the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) of the estimable parametric function in the general Gauss–Markov model. Especially we consider the structures of the covariance matrix V for which the OLSE equals the BLUE. Our results are based on the properties of a particular reparametrized version of the original Gauss–Markov model.   相似文献
