We regard the simple linear calibration problem where only the response y of the regression line y = β0 + β1 t is observed with errors. The experimental conditions t are observed without error. For the errors of the observations y we assume that there may be some gross errors providing outlying observations. This situation can be modeled by a conditionally contaminated regression model. In this model the classical calibration estimator based on the least squares estimator has an unbounded asymptotic bias. Therefore we introduce calibration estimators based on robust one-step-M-estimators which have a bounded asymptotic bias. For this class of estimators we discuss two problems: The optimal estimators and their corresponding optimal designs. We derive the locally optimal solutions and show that the maximin efficient designs for non-robust estimation and robust estimation coincide.  相似文献

General linear models with a common design matrix and with various structures of the variance–covariance matrix are considered. We say that a model is perfect for a linearly estimable parametric function, or the function is perfect in the model, if there exists the best linear unbiased estimator. All perfect models for a given function and all perfect functions in a given model are characterized.  相似文献

The simple linear regression model with measurement error has been subject to much research. In this work we will focus on this model when the error in the explanatory variable is correlated with the error in the regression equation. Specifically, we are interested in the comparison between the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator of the regression coefficient ββ and the estimator that takes account of the correlation between the errors. Based on large sample approximations, we compare the estimators and find that the estimator that takes account of the correlation should be preferred in most situations. We also compare the estimators in small sample situations. This is done by stochastic simulation. The results show that the estimators behave quite similarly in most of the simulated situations, but that the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator performs considerably worse than the estimator that takes account of the correlation for certain parameter combinations. In addition, we look briefly into the bias introduced by ignoring correlated errors when computing sample correlations, and in predictions.  相似文献

In the linear regression model the unknown parameter vector θ is supposed to vary in a known ellipsoid. Under this parameter constraint Kuks and Olman derived an estimator by demanding a minimax property. Since sometimes the Kuks-Olman estimator takes values outside of the ellipsoid a modification is proposed in the paper. It is shown that this modified variant is a least squares estimator in the restricted model.  相似文献

We investigate optimal designs for discriminating between exponential regression models of different complexity, which are widely used in the biological sciences; see, e.g., Landaw [1995. Robust sampling designs for compartmental models under large prior eigenvalue uncertainties. Math. Comput. Biomed. Appl. 181–187] or Gibaldi and Perrier [1982. Pharmacokinetics. Marcel Dekker, New York]. We discuss different approaches for the construction of appropriate optimality criteria, and find sharper upper bounds on the number of support points of locally optimal discrimination designs than those given by Caratheodory's Theorem. These results greatly facilitate the numerical construction of optimal designs. Various examples of optimal designs are then presented and compared to different other designs. Moreover, to protect the experiment against misspecifications of the nonlinear model parameters, we adapt the design criteria such that the resulting designs are robust with respect to such misspecifications and, again, provide several examples, which demonstrate the advantages of our approach.  相似文献

An experimental design is said to be Schur optimal, if it is optimal with respect to the class of all Schur isotonic criteria, which includes Kiefer's criteria of ΦpΦp-optimality, distance optimality criteria and many others. In the paper we formulate an easily verifiable necessary and sufficient condition for Schur optimality in the set of all approximate designs of a linear regression experiment with uncorrelated errors. We also show that several common models admit a Schur optimal design, for example the trigonometric model, the first-degree model on the Euclidean ball, and the Berman's model.  相似文献

Two common kernel-based methods for non-parametric regression estimation suffer from well-known drawbacks when the design is random. The Gasser-Müller estimator is inadmissible due to its high variance while the Nadaraya-Watson estimator has zero asymptotic efficiency because of poor bias behavior. Under asymptotic consideration, the local linear estimator avoids these two drawbacks of kernel estimators and achieves minimax optimality. However, when based on compact support kernels its finite sample behavior is disappointing because sudden kinks may show up in the estimate.

This paper proposes a modification of the kernel estimator, called the binned convolution estimator leading to a fast O(n) method. Provided the design density is continously differentiable and the conditional fourth moments exist the binned convolution estimator has asymptotic properties identical with those of the local linear estimator.  相似文献

This paper concerns a method of estimation of variance components in a random effect linear model. It is mainly a resampling method and relies on the Jackknife principle. The derived estimators are presented as least squares estimators in an appropriate linear model, and one of them appears as a MINQUE (Minimum Norm Quadratic Unbiased Estimation) estimator. Our resampling method is illustrated by an example given by C. R. Rao [7] and some optimal properties of our estimator are derived for this example. In the last part, this method is used to derive an estimation of variance components in a random effect linear model when one of the components is assumed to be known.  相似文献

The linear calibration problem is considered. An exact formula for the mean squared error of the inverse estimator, involving expectations of functions of a Poisson random variable, is derived. The formula may be expressed in closed form if the number of observations in the calibration experiment is odd; for an even number of observations, the numerical evaluation of a simple integral or the use of a standard table of the confluent hypergeometric function is required. Previous expressions for the mean squared error have either been asymptotic expansions or estimates obtained by simulation.  相似文献

A- and MV-optimal block designs are identified in the class of minimally connected designs when the observations within blocks are spatially correlated. All connected designs are shown to be D-equal regardless of the correlation structure, and a sufficient condition for E-optimality is presented. Earlier results for the uncorrelated case are strengthened.  相似文献

We study the distribution of the adaptive LASSO estimator [Zou, H., 2006. The adaptive LASSO and its oracle properties. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 101, 1418–1429] in finite samples as well as in the large-sample limit. The large-sample distributions are derived both for the case where the adaptive LASSO estimator is tuned to perform conservative model selection as well as for the case where the tuning results in consistent model selection. We show that the finite-sample as well as the large-sample distributions are typically highly nonnormal, regardless of the choice of the tuning parameter. The uniform convergence rate is also obtained, and is shown to be slower than n-1/2n-1/2 in case the estimator is tuned to perform consistent model selection. In particular, these results question the statistical relevance of the ‘oracle’ property of the adaptive LASSO estimator established in Zou [2006. The adaptive LASSO and its oracle properties. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 101, 1418–1429]. Moreover, we also provide an impossibility result regarding the estimation of the distribution function of the adaptive LASSO estimator. The theoretical results, which are obtained for a regression model with orthogonal design, are complemented by a Monte Carlo study using nonorthogonal regressors.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a new nonparametric estimator of the conditional distribution function under a semiparametric censorship model. We establish an asymptotic representation of the estimator as a sum of iid random variables, balanced by some kernel weights. This representation is used for obtaining large sample results such as the rate of uniform convergence of the estimator, or its limit distributional law. We prove that the new estimator outperforms the conditional Kaplan–Meier estimator for censored data, in the sense that it exhibits lower asymptotic variance. Illustration through real data analysis is provided.  相似文献

For the Weibull- and Richards-regression model robust designs are determined by maximizing a minimum of D  - or D1D1-efficiencies, taken over a certain range of the non-linear parameters. It is demonstrated that the derived designs yield a satisfactory solution of the optimal design problem for this type of model in the sense that these designs are efficient and robust with respect to misspecification of the unknown parameters. Moreover, the designs can also be used for testing the postulated form of the regression model against a simplified sub-model.  相似文献

The aim of an experiment is often to enable discrimination between competing forms for a response model. We investigate the selection of a continuous design for a non-sequential strategy when there are two competing generalized linear models for a binomial response, with a common link function and the linear predictor of one model nested within that of the other. A new criterion, TETE-optimality, is defined, based on the difference in the deviances from the two models, and comparisons are made with TT-, DsDs- and DD-optimality. Issues are raised through the study of two examples in which designs are assessed using simulation studies of the power to reject the null hypothesis of the smaller model being correct, when the data are generated from the larger model. Parameter estimation for discrimination designs is also discussed and a simple method is investigated of combining designs to form a hybrid design in order to achieve both model discrimination and estimation. This method has a computational advantage over the use of a compound criterion and the similar performance of the designs obtained from the two approaches is illustrated in an example.  相似文献

We consider the construction of designs for the extrapolation of a regression response to one point outside of the design space. The response function is an only approximately known function of a specified linear function. As well, we allow for variance heterogeneity. We find minimax designs and corresponding optimal regression weights in the context of the following problems: (P1) for nonlinear least squares estimation with homoscedasticity, determine a design to minimize the maximum value of the mean squared extrapolation error (MSEE), with the maximum being evaluated over the possible departures from the response function; (P2) for nonlinear least squares estimation with heteroscedasticity, determine a design to minimize the maximum value of MSEE, with the maximum being evaluated over both types of departures; (P3) for nonlinear weighted least squares estimation, determine both weights and a design to minimize the maximum MSEE; (P4) choose weights and design points to minimize the maximum MSEE, subject to a side condition of unbiasedness. Solutions to (P1)–(P4) are given in complete generality. Numerical comparisons indicate that our designs and weights perform well in combining robustness and efficiency. Applications to accelerated life testing are highlighted.  相似文献

Using survey weights, You & Rao [You and Rao, The Canadian Journal of Statistics 2002; 30, 431–439] proposed a pseudo‐empirical best linear unbiased prediction (pseudo‐EBLUP) estimator of a small area mean under a nested error linear regression model. This estimator borrows strength across areas through a linking model, and makes use of survey weights to ensure design consistency and preserve benchmarking property in the sense that the estimators add up to a reliable direct estimator of the mean of a large area covering the small areas. In this article, a second‐order approximation to the mean squared error (MSE) of the pseudo‐EBLUP estimator of a small area mean is derived. Using this approximation, an estimator of MSE that is nearly unbiased is derived; the MSE estimator of You & Rao [You and Rao, The Canadian Journal of Statistics 2002; 30, 431–439] ignored cross‐product terms in the MSE and hence it is biased. Empirical results on the performance of the proposed MSE estimator are also presented. The Canadian Journal of Statistics 38: 598–608; 2010 © 2010 Statistical Society of Canada  相似文献

This paper studies the optimality of circular neighbor-balanced designs (CNBDs) for total effects when the one-sided or two-sided neighbor effects are present in the model and the observation errors are correlated according to a first-order circular autoregressive (AR(1,CC)) process. Some optimality results under some specified conditions are provided and the efficiency of a CNBD relative to the optimal block design is investigated. In order to discuss the efficiency of a CNBD among all possible block designs with the same size, the optimal equivalence classes of sequences under the one-sided neighbor effects model are characterized and the efficiencies of CNBDs with blocks of small size are illustrated.  相似文献

We investigate an optimization problem for mixture experiments. We consider the case when a large number of ingredients are available but mixtures can contain only a few number of ingredients. These conditions are held in experiments for self assembling molecular systems. First, we introduce a concept of uniform coverage design specialized for the situation. Next, we propose to use the stepwise technique for estimating coefficients of third-order Scheffe model which describes a response surface. After that, we propose a method of adding new mixtures for a movement to an extremum region. By this method, additional mixtures of experiments are extremum points of current estimated model and points which lead to more accurate estimation of current model prediction. This methodology is studied numerically for a model constructed from real data.  相似文献
