In this paper, an alternative skew Student-t family of distributions is studied. It is obtained as an extension of the generalized Student-t (GS-t) family introduced by McDonald and Newey [10]. The extension that is obtained can be seen as a reparametrization of the skewed GS-t distribution considered by Theodossiou [14]. A key element in the construction of such an extension is that it can be stochastically represented as a mixture of an epsilon-skew-power-exponential distribution [1] and a generalized-gamma distribution. From this representation, we can readily derive theoretical properties and easy-to-implement simulation schemes. Furthermore, we study some of its main properties including stochastic representation, moments and asymmetry and kurtosis coefficients. We also derive the Fisher information matrix, which is shown to be nonsingular for some special cases such as when the asymmetry parameter is null, that is, at the vicinity of symmetry, and discuss maximum-likelihood estimation. Simulation studies for some particular cases and real data analysis are also reported, illustrating the usefulness of the extension considered.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider sufficient conditions for the stationary distribution of generalized Ait-Sahalia-type interest rate model. We show that if r ? 2ρ ? 1, then the generalized Ait-Sahalia interest rate model has a unique stationary distribution and if r < 2ρ ? 1, then the generalized Ait-Sahalia interest rate model is recurrent relative to the domain (0, ?), for any ? > 0. Besides, some recursion formulas for the stationary distribution are presented. Finally, some numerical simulations are used to illustrate our results.  相似文献

The probability density function (pdf) ofsingular elliptical distributions is represented as an integralseries of singular normal distributions. Explicit formulas for the pdf and the cdf of the generalized Chi-square distribution are derived under singular elliptical assumptions extending the result of Díaz-García [(2002). Singular elliptical distribution: density and applications. Commun. Stat.—Theory Methods 31:665–681]. Applications are given of the proposed result for singular mixedmodels.  相似文献

A five-parameter extended fatigue life model called the McDonald–Birnbaum–Saunders (McBS) distribution is proposed. It extends the Birnbaum–Saunders and beta Birnbaum–Saunders [G.M. Cordeiro and A.J. Lemonte, The β-Birnbaum–Saunders distribution: An improved distribution for fatigue life modeling. Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 55 (2011), pp. 1445–1461] distributions and also the new Kumaraswamy–Birnbaum–Saunders distribution. We obtain the ordinary moments, generating function, mean deviations and quantile function. The method of maximum likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters and its potentiality is illustrated with an application to a real fatigue data set. Further, we propose a new extended regression model based on the logarithm of the McBS distribution. This model can be very useful to the analysis of real data and could give more realistic fits than other special regression models.  相似文献

The generalized gamma distribution includes the exponential distribution, the gamma distribution, and the Weibull distribution as special cases. It also includes the log-normal distribution in the limit as one of its parameters goes to infinity. Prentice (1974) developed an estimation method that is effective even when the underlying distribution is nearly log-normal. He reparameterized the density function so that it achieved the limiting case in a smooth fashion relative to the new parameters. He also gave formulas for the second partial derivatives of the log-density function to be used in the nearly log-normal case. His formulas included infinite summations, and he did not estimate the error in approximating these summations.

We derive approximations for the log-density function and moments of the generalized gamma distribution that are smooth in the nearly log-normal case and involve only finite summations. Absolute error bounds for these approximations are included. The approximation for the first moment is applied to the problem of estimating the parameters of a generalized gamma distribution under the constraint that the distribution have mean one. This enables the development of a correspondence between the parameters in a mean one generalized gamma distribution and certain parameters in acoustic scattering theory.  相似文献

Kumaraswamy [Generalized probability density-function for double-bounded random-processes, J. Hydrol. 462 (1980), pp. 79–88] introduced a distribution for double-bounded random processes with hydrological applications. For the first time, based on this distribution, we describe a new family of generalized distributions (denoted with the prefix ‘Kw’) to extend the normal, Weibull, gamma, Gumbel, inverse Gaussian distributions, among several well-known distributions. Some special distributions in the new family such as the Kw-normal, Kw-Weibull, Kw-gamma, Kw-Gumbel and Kw-inverse Gaussian distribution are discussed. We express the ordinary moments of any Kw generalized distribution as linear functions of probability weighted moments (PWMs) of the parent distribution. We also obtain the ordinary moments of order statistics as functions of PWMs of the baseline distribution. We use the method of maximum likelihood to fit the distributions in the new class and illustrate the potentiality of the new model with an application to real data.  相似文献

An explicit closed form is derived for the characteristic function for the skew generalized t distribution studied by Arslan and Genç [The skew generalized t (SGT) distribution as the scale mixture of a skew exponential power distribution and its applications in robust estimation, Statistics 43(5) (2009), pp. 481–498]. The expression involves the Wright generalized hypergeometric Ψ–function.  相似文献

In this note, it is shown that the finite-sample distributions of the Wald, likelihood ratio, and Lagrange multiplier statistics in the classical linear regression model are members of the generalized beta model introduced by McDonald and Xu (1995a McDonald, J.B., Xu, Y.J. (1995a). A generalization of the beta distribution with applications. J. Econom. 66:133152.[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]). This is useful for examining the properties of these test statistics. For example, this characterization makes it easy to find distribution, quantile, and density functions for each test statistic, makes it clear why Wald tests may overreject the null hypothesis using asymptotic critical values, and formalizes the fact that the Lagrange multiplier statistic follows a distribution with bounded support.  相似文献

Skew normal distribution is an alternative distribution to the normal distribution to accommodate asymmetry. Since then extensive studies have been done on applying Azzalini’s skewness mechanism to other well-known distributions, such as skew-t distribution, which is more flexible and can better accommodate long tailed data than the skew normal one. The Kumaraswamy generalized distribution (Kw ? F) is another new class of distribution which is capable of fitting skewed data that can not be fitted well by existing distributions. Such a distribution has been widely studied and various versions of generalization of this distribution family have been introduced. In this article, we introduce a new generalization of the skew-t distribution based on the Kumaraswamy generalized distribution. The new class of distribution, which we call the Kumaraswamy skew-t (KwST) has the ability of fitting skewed, long, and heavy-tailed data and is more flexible than the skew-t distribution as it contains the skew-t distribution as a special case. Related properties of this distribution family such as mathematical properties, moments, and order statistics are discussed. The proposed distribution is applied to a real dataset to illustrate the estimation procedure.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the family of skew generalized t (SGT) distributions originally introduced by Theodossiou [P. Theodossiou, Financial data and the skewed generalized t distribution, Manage. Sci. Part 1 44 (12) ( 1998), pp. 1650–1661] as a skew extension of the generalized t (GT) distribution. The SGT distribution family warrants special attention, because it encompasses distributions having both heavy tails and skewness, and many of the widely used distributions such as Student's t, normal, Hansen's skew t, exponential power, and skew exponential power (SEP) distributions are included as limiting or special cases in the SGT family. We show that the SGT distribution can be obtained as the scale mixture of the SEP and generalized gamma distributions. We investigate several properties of the SGT distribution and consider the maximum likelihood estimation of the location, scale, and skewness parameters under the assumption that the shape parameters are known. We show that if the shape parameters are estimated along with the location, scale, and skewness parameters, the influence function for the maximum likelihood estimators becomes unbounded. We obtain the necessary conditions to ensure the uniqueness of the maximum likelihood estimators for the location, scale, and skewness parameters, with known shape parameters. We provide a simple iterative re-weighting algorithm to compute the maximum likelihood estimates for the location, scale, and skewness parameters and show that this simple algorithm can be identified as an EM-type algorithm. We finally present two applications of the SGT distributions in robust estimation.  相似文献

In the first part of the paper, we introduce the matrix-variate generalized hyperbolic distribution by mixing the matrix normal distribution with the matrix generalized inverse Gaussian density. The p-dimensional generalized hyperbolic distribution of [Barndorff-Nielsen, O. (1978). Hyperbolic distributions and distributions on hyperbolae. Scand. J. Stat., 5, 151–157], the matrix-T distribution and many well-known distributions are shown to be special cases of the new distribution. Some properties of the distribution are also studied. The second part of the paper deals with the application of the distribution in the Bayesian analysis of the normal multivariate linear model.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain a new approximation of the Student's t distribution by using the symmetric generalized logistic (SGL) distribution function. The error of this approximation is shown to be 0(1/n2 )where nis the degrees of freedom of thetdistribution. In comparison to similar approximations by George and Ojo and George et al. (1986), this new approximation is much simpler and more accurate. It is also shown that under some conditions, the tdistribution is a good approximation of the SGL distribution. Therefore, the complicated expressions for the cumulants and moments of the SGL can be approximated by those of the t, distribution. Finally, numerical results are given.  相似文献

Generalizing lifetime distributions is always precious for applied statisticians. In this paper, we introduce a new four-parameter generalization of the exponentiated power Lindley (EPL) distribution, called the exponentiated power Lindley geometric (EPLG) distribution, obtained by compounding EPL and geometric distributions. The new distribution arises in a latent complementary risks scenario, in which the lifetime associated with a particular risk is not observable; rather, we observe only the maximum lifetime value among all risks. The distribution exhibits decreasing, increasing, unimodal and bathtub-shaped hazard rate functions, depending on its parameters. It contains several lifetime distributions as particular cases: EPL, new generalized Lindley, generalized Lindley, power Lindley and Lindley geometric distributions. We derive several properties of the new distribution such as closed-form expressions for the density, cumulative distribution function, survival function, hazard rate function, the rth raw moment, and also the moments of order statistics. Moreover, we discuss maximum likelihood estimation and provide formulas for the elements of the Fisher information matrix. Simulation studies are also provided. Finally, two real data applications are given for showing the flexibility and potentiality of the new distribution.  相似文献

This article introduces a five-parameter lifetime model called the McDonald Gompertz (McG) distribution to extend the Gompertz, generalized Gompertz, generalized exponential, beta Gompertz, and Kumaraswamy Gompertz distributions among several other models. The hazard function of new distribution can be increasing, decreasing, upside-down bathtub, and bathtub shaped. We obtain several properties of the McG distribution including moments, entropies, quantile, and generating functions. We provide the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The parameter estimation is based on the usual maximum likelihood approach. We also provide the observed information matrix and discuss inferences issues. The flexibility and usefulness of the new distribution are illustrated by means of application to two real datasets.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a generalized version of the two-piece skew normal distribution of Kim [On a class of two-piece skew-normal distributions, Statistics 39(6) (2005), pp. 537–553] and derive explicit expressions for its distribution function and characteristic function and discuss some of its important properties. Further estimation of the parameters of the generalized distribution is carried out.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, a renewal-reward process with a discrete interference of chance is constructed and considered. Under weak conditions, the ergodicity of the process X(t) is proved and exact formulas for the ergodic distribution and its moments are found. Within some assumptions for the discrete interference of chance in general form, two-term asymptotic expansions for all moments of the ergodic distribution are obtained. Additionally, kurtosis coefficient, skewness coefficient, and coefficient of variation of the ergodic distribution are computed. As a special case, a semi-Markovian inventory model of type (s, S) is investigated.  相似文献

We derive a generalization of the exponential distribution by making log transformation of the standard two-sided power distribution. We show that this new generalization is in fact a mixture of a truncated exponential distribution and truncated generalized exponential distribution introduced by Gupta and Kundu [Generalized exponential distributions. Aust. N. Z. J. Stat. 41(1999):173–188]. The newly defined distribution is more flexible for modeling data than the ordinary exponential distribution. We study its properties, estimate the parameters, and demonstrate it on some well-known real data sets comparing other existing methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new generalized alpha-skew-T (GAST) distribution for generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) models in modelling daily Value-at-Risk (VaR). Some mathematical properties of the proposed distribution are derived including density function, moments and stochastic representation. The maximum likelihood estimation method is discussed to estimate parameters via a simulation study. Then, the real data application on S&P-500 index is performed to investigate the performance of GARCH models specified under GAST innovation distribution with respect to normal, Student's-t and Skew-T models in terms of the VaR accuracy. Backtesting methodology is used to compare the out-of-sample performance of the VaR models. The results show that GARCH models with GAST innovation distribution outperforms among others and generates the most conservative VaR forecasts for all confidence levels and for both long and short positions.  相似文献

In the present article we study several characteristics of the families of generalized beta- and gamma- generated distributions introduced by Alexander et al. (2011) and Zografos and Balakrishnan (2009), respectively. Simple formulas are established for calculating the failure rate of the members of the aforementioned families by exploiting the failure rate of the parent distribution. In addition, the aging properties of the generalized beta- and gamma-generated distributions are explored in terms of the corresponding aging behavior of the parent family.  相似文献

In this paper, we shall attempt to introduce another discrete analogue of the generalized exponential distribution of Gupta and Kundu [Generalized exponential distributions, Aust. N. Z. J. Stat. 41(2) (1999), pp. 173–188], different to that of Nekoukhou et al. [A discrete analogue of the generalized exponential distribution, Comm. Stat. Theory Methods, to appear (2011)]. This new discrete distribution, which we shall call a discrete generalized exponential distribution of the second type (DGE2(α, p)), can be viewed as another generalization of the geometric distribution. We shall first study some basic distributional and moment properties, as well as order statistics distributions of this family of new distributions. Certain compounded DGE2(α, p) distributions are also discussed as the results of which some previous lifetime distributions such as that of Adamidis and Loukas [A lifetime distribution with decreasing failure rate, Statist. Probab. Lett. 39 (1998), pp. 35–42] follow as corollaries. Then, we will investigate estimation of the parameters involved. Finally, we will examine the model with a real data set.  相似文献
