Starting with the second Lagrange expansion, with f(z) and g(z) as two probability generating functions defined on non-negative integers, Janardan and Rao( 1983) introduced a new class of discrete distributions called the Lagrange Distributions (LD2) of the second kind. In this note, this class of LD2 distributions is widened by removing the restriction that the functions f(z) and g(z) be probability generation functions. It is also shown that the class of modified power series distributions is a subclass of LD2.  相似文献

The ordinary-G class of distributions is defined to have the cumulative distribution function (cdf) as the value of the cdf of the ordinary distribution F whose range is the unit interval at G, that is, F(G), and it generalizes the ordinary distribution. In this work, we consider the standard two-sided power distribution to define other classes like the beta-G and the Kumaraswamy-G classes. We extend the idea of two-sidedness to other ordinary distributions like normal. After studying the basic properties of the new class in general setting, we consider the two-sided generalized normal distribution with maximum likelihood estimation procedure.  相似文献

In this article, a method is proposed to get the limiting distributions and asymptotic properties of estimators based on the minimum and/or maximum of a given srs of a truncated distribution. Following a common outline, a review is carried out by considering different kinds of truncated distributions, some new results are also developed.  相似文献

Polygonal distributions are a class of distributions that can be defined via the mixture of triangular distributions over the unit interval. We demonstrate that the densities of polygonal distributions are dense in the class of continuous and concave densities with bounded second derivatives. Furthermore, we prove that polygonal density functions provide O(g? 2) approximations (where g is the number of triangular distribution components), in the supremum distance, to any density function from the hypothesized class. Parametric consistency and Hellinger consistency results for the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator are obtained. A result regarding model selection via penalized ML estimation is proved.  相似文献

We give an affirmative answer to the conjecture raised in Soltani and Roozegar [On distribution of randomly ordered uniform incremental weighted averages: divided difference approach. Statist Probab Lett. 2012;82(5):1012–1020] that a certain class of power semicircle distributions, parameterized by n, gives the distributions of the average of n independent and identically Arcsine random variables weighted by the cuts of (0,1) by the order statistics of a uniform (0, 1) sample of size n?1, for each n. Then we establish the central limit theorem for this class of distributions. We also use the Demni [On generalized Cauchy–Stieltjes transforms of some beta distributions. Comm Stoch Anal. 2009;3:197–210] results on the connection between the ordinary and generalized Cauchy or Stieltjes transforms, and introduce new classes of randomly weighted average distributions.  相似文献

An interesting class of continuous distributions, called Cauchy-type mixture, with potential applications in modelling erratic phenomena is introduced by Soltani and Tafakori [A class of continuous kernels and Cauchy type heavy tail distributions. Statist Probab Lett. 2013;83:1018–1027]. In this work, we provide more insights into the Cauchy-type mixture distributions, involving certain characterizations, connections with the generalized Linnik distributions and the class of discrete distributions induced by stable laws. We also prove that the Laplace transform of Cauchy-type mixture distributions when normalized by constant terms become as a density functions in terms of distributional conjugate property.  相似文献

A new class of location-parameter discrete probability distributions (LDPD) has been defined where the population mean is the location parameter. It has been shown that some single parameter discrete distributions do not belong to this class and all discrete probability distributions belonging to this class can be characterized by their variances only. Expressions are given for the first four central moments and a recurrence formula for higher central moments has been obtained. Eight theorems are given to characterize the various distributions in the LDPD class.  相似文献

Consider a population the individuals in which can be classified into groups. Let y, the number of individuals in a group, be distributed according to a probability function f(y;øo) where the functional form f is known. The random variable y cannot be observed directly, and hence a random sample of groups cannot be obtained. Consider a random sample of N individuals from the population. Suppose the N individuals are distributed into S groups with x1, x2, …, xS representatives respectively. The random variable x, the number of individuals in a group in the sample, will be a fraction of its population counterpart y, and the distributions of x and y need not have the same functional form. If the two random variables x and y have the same functional form for their distributions, then the particular common distribution is called an invariant abundance distribution. The paper provides a characterization of invariant abundance distributions in the class of power-series distributions.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of distribution-free tests for testing the homogeneity of several location parameters against ordered alternatives. The proposed class of test statistics is based on a linear combination of two-sample U-statistics based on subsample extremes. The mean and variance of the test statistic are obtained under the null hypothesis as well as under the sequence of local alternatives. The optimal weights are also determined. It is shown via Pitman ARE comparisons that the proposed class of test statistics performs better than its competitor tests in case of heavy-tailed and long-tailed distributions  相似文献

The consequences of substituting the denominator Q 3(p)  −  Q 1(p) by Q 2  −  Q 1(p) in Groeneveld’s class of quantile measures of kurtosis (γ 2(p)) for symmetric distributions, are explored using the symmetric influence function. The relationship between the measure γ 2(p) and the alternative class of kurtosis measures κ2(p) is derived together with the relationship between their influence functions. The Laplace, Logistic, symmetric Two-sided Power, Tukey and Beta distributions are considered in the examples in order to discuss the results obtained pertaining to unimodal, heavy tailed, bounded domain and U-shaped distributions. The authors thank the referee for the careful review.  相似文献

The class of Lagrangian probability distributions ‘LPD’, given by the expansion of a probability generating function ft’ under the transformation u = t/gt’ where gt’ is also a p.g.f., has been substantially widened by removing the restriction that the defining functions gt’ and ft’ be probability generating functions. The class of modified power series distributions defined by Gupta ‘1974’ has been shown to be a sub-class of the wider class of LPDs  相似文献

In this paper, we examine a nonlinear regression (NLR) model with homoscedastic errors which follows a flexible class of two-piece distributions based on the scale mixtures of normal (TP-SMN) family. The objective of using this family is to develop a robust NLR model. The TP-SMN is a rich class of distributions that covers symmetric/asymmetric and lightly/heavy-tailed distributions and is an alternative family to the well-known scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) family studied by Branco and Dey [35]. A key feature of this study is using a new suitable hierarchical representation of the family to obtain maximum-likelihood estimates of model parameters via an EM-type algorithm. The performances of the proposed robust model are demonstrated using simulated and some natural real datasets and also compared to other well-known NLR models.  相似文献

This article introduces and discusses a new measure of the relative economic affluence (REA) between income distributions with different means. The REA measure D is applied to the U.S. white and black household income distributions of 1967 and 1979. The measure D shows that the REA of the white households with respect to the black households decreased from 1967 to 1979. This conclusion contrasts with those obtained by applications of distance or quasi-distance functions. It is shown in this study that REA measures and distance functions address different and relevant issues. An REA measure deals with the relation “more affluent than” and defines a partial strict ordering over the set of pairs of income distributions—that is, the relation is asymmetric and transitive—whereas a distance function accounts for the dissimilarity between distributions without imposing an ordering relation and hence fulfills the symmetry property.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we introduce a new class of (probability) distributions, based on a cosine-sine transformation, obtained by compounding a baseline distribution with cosine and sine functions. Some of its properties are explored. A special focus is given to a particular cosine-sine transformation using the exponential distribution as baseline. Estimations of parameters of a particular cosine-sine exponential distribution are performed via the maximum likelihood estimation method. A simulation study investigates the performances of these estimates. Applications are given for four real data sets, showing a better fit in comparison to some existing distributions based on some goodness-of-fit tests.  相似文献

A new method for generating new classes of distributions based on the probability-generating function is presented in Aly and Benkherouf [A new family of distributions based on probability generating functions. Sankhya B. 2011;73:70–80]. In particular, they focused their interest to the so-called Harris extended family of distributions. In this paper, we provide several general results regarding the Harris extended models such as the general behaviour of the failure rate function. We also derive a very useful representation for the Harris extended density function as an absolutely convergent power series of the survival function of the baseline distribution. Additionally, some stochastic order relations are established and limiting distributions of sample extremes are also considered for this model. These general results are illustrated in several special Harris extended models. Finally, we discuss estimation of the model parameters by the method of maximum likelihood and provide an application to real data for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The two-sided power (TSP) distribution is a flexible two-parameter distribution having uniform, power function and triangular as sub-distributions, and it is a reasonable alternative to beta distribution in some cases. In this work, we introduce the TSP-binomial model which is defined as a mixture of binomial distributions, with the binomial parameter p having a TSP distribution. We study its distributional properties and demonstrate its use on some data. It is shown that the newly defined model is a useful candidate for overdispersed binomial data.  相似文献

In this paper, a discrete counterpart of the general class of continuous beta-G distributions is introduced. A discrete analog of the beta generalized exponential distribution of Barreto-Souza et al. [2], as an important special case of the proposed class, is studied. This new distribution contains some previously known discrete distributions as well as two new models. The hazard rate function of the new model can be increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped and upside-down bathtub. Some distributional and moment properties of the new distribution as well as its order statistics are discussed. Estimation of the parameters is illustrated using the maximum likelihood method and, finally, the model with a real data set is examined.  相似文献

In this paper, a comparison between the life distribution of a new unit with that of a used unit in the increasing convex order is made leading to a new class of life distributions which we call “new better than used in convex ordering of second order”. This class includes as subclasses the NBU and the NBUC and is a subclass of the NBUCA class. Preservation properties under convolution, random maxima, mixing and formation of coherent structures are established. Stochastic comparisons of the excess lifetime when the inter-arrival times belong to the NBUC(2) class are developed. Some applications of Poisson shock models and a test of exponentiality against NBUC(2) alternative are presented.  相似文献

In this paper, a special class of m-dimensional distribution functions which can be uniquely determined in terms of their 2-dimensional marginals is studied. The members of the class can be characterized as having truncation invariant dependence structure. The representation given in this paper provides a physical meaning to the multivariate Cook-Johnson distribution, and introduces a systematic way of generating higher dimensional distributions by using rich 2-dimensional distributions provided that the 2-dimensional marginals are compatible. A class of 3-dimensional multivariate normal distribution has been generated and bounds in terms of lower dimensional marginals are provided.  相似文献
