In this work, we extend prior results concerning the simultaneous Pitman closeness of order statistics (OS) to population quantiles. By considering progressively type-II right-censored samples, we derive expressions for the simultaneous closeness probabilities of the progressively censored OS to population quantiles. Explicit expressions are deduced for the cases when the underlying distribution has bounded and unbounded supports. Illustrations are provided for the cases of exponential, uniform and normal distributions for various progressive type-II right-censoring schemes and different quantiles. Finally, an extension to the case of generalized OS is outlined.  相似文献

On the basis of a progressively censored sample, Basak et al. [On some predictors of times to failure of censored items in progressively censored samples. Comput Statist Data Anal. 2006;50:1313 –1337] considered the problem of predicting the unobserved censored units at various stages of progressive censoring. They then discussed several different point predictors of these censored units and compared them with respect to mean square prediction error. In this work, we use the Pitman closeness (PC) criterion to compare the maximum likelihood, best linear unbiased, best linear equivariant, and conditional median predictors (CMPs) of these progressively censored units. Next, we compare all these with respect to the median unbiased predictor in terms of PC. Numerical computations are then performed to compare all these predictors. By comparing our results to those of Basak et al. (2006), we note that our findings in the sense of PC are similar to theirs in which the CMP competes well when compared to all other predictors.  相似文献

In this paper, we focus on Pitman closeness probabilities when the estimators are symmetrically distributed about the unknown parameter θ. We first consider two symmetric estimators θ?1 and θ?2 and obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for θ?1 to be Pitman closer to the common median θ than θ?2. We then establish some properties in the context of estimation under the Pitman closeness criterion. We define Pitman closeness probability which measures the frequency with which an individual order statistic is Pitman closer to θ than some symmetric estimator. We show that, for symmetric populations, the sample median is Pitman closer to the population median than any other independent and symmetrically distributed estimator of θ. Finally, we discuss the use of Pitman closeness probabilities in the determination of an optimal ranked set sampling scheme (denoted by RSS) for the estimation of the population median when the underlying distribution is symmetric. We show that the best RSS scheme from symmetric populations in the sense of Pitman closeness is the median and randomized median RSS for the cases of odd and even sample sizes, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the Pitman measure of closeness of order statistics of two independent samples from the same distribution to population quantiles. We then derive various exact expressions of the probability closeness of order statistics from the X and Y samples. Some distribution-free results for the median of the sampling distribution are obtained. Exact and explicit expressions are presented for Uniform(?1, 1) and exponential distributions. Numerical results for illustrative purposes are also provided.  相似文献

Some work has been done in the past on the estimation for the three-parameter gamma distribution based on complete and censored samples. In this paper, we develop estimation methods based on progressively Type-II censored samples from a three-parameter gamma distribution. In particular, we develop some iterative methods for the determination of the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) of all three parameters. It is shown that the proposed iterative scheme converges to the MLEs. In this context, we propose another method of estimation which is based on missing information principle and moment estimators. Simple alternatives to the above two methods are also suggested. The proposed estimation methods are then illustrated with a numerical example. We also consider the interval estimation based on large-sample theory and examine the actual coverage probabilities of these confidence intervals in case of small samples using a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

In this article, the residual Rényi entropy (RRE) as a measure of uncertainty is considered in progressively Type II censored samples and some properties of it are investigated. The RRE of sth order statistic from a continuous distribution function is represented in terms of the RRE of the sth order statistic from uniform distribution. In general, we do not have a closed form for RRE of order statistics in most of distributions. This gives us a motivation for obtaining some bounds for RRE in progressively censored samples. In addition, two estimators are proposed for RRE. The performance of these estimators is compared using simulation studies.  相似文献

Recently, progressively Type II censored samples have attracted attention in the study and analysis of life-testing data. Here we propose an indirect approach for computing the Fisher information (FI) in progressively Type II censored samples that simplifies the calculations. Some recurrence relations for the FI in progressively Type II censored samples are derived that facilitate the FI computation using the proposed decomposition. This paper presents a standard recurrence relation that simplifies computation of the FI in progressively Type II censored samples to a sum; FI in collections order statistics (OS). We compute the FI in a collections of progressively Type II censored samples for some known distributions.  相似文献

Inverse Gaussian distribution has been used widely as a model in analysing lifetime data. In this regard, estimation of parameters of two-parameter (IG2) and three-parameter inverse Gaussian (IG3) distributions based on complete and censored samples has been discussed in the literature. In this paper, we develop estimation methods based on progressively Type-II censored samples from IG3 distribution. In particular, we use the EM-algorithm, as well as some other numerical methods for determining the maximum-likelihood estimates (MLEs) of the parameters. The asymptotic variances and covariances of the MLEs from the EM-algorithm are derived by using the missing information principle. We also consider some simplified alternative estimators. The inferential methods developed are then illustrated with some numerical examples. We also discuss the interval estimation of the parameters based on the large-sample theory and examine the true coverage probabilities of these confidence intervals in case of small samples by means of Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

We derive expressions for the probability that an individual order statistic is closest to the target parameter among the order statistics from a complete random sample. Results are given for random variables with bounded and complete support. We then apply these general results to location-scale parameter families of distributions with specific applications to estimation of percentiles. In this case, simultaneous-closeness probabilities depend upon the parameters through the value of p in the percentile and the sample size, n. Results are finally illustrated with the estimation of percentiles for normal and exponential distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, some results of Pakes and Steutel [1997. On the number of records near the maximum, Austral. J. Statist. 39, 179–193] on the properties of the numbers of near order statistic observations are extended to the case of progressively Type-II censored data. In this way, we introduce the notion of the numbers of near minimum observations under progressive censoring. We derive distributional and asymptotic results for them and discuss the notion of the “increasing” sample in the case of progressive censoring. Some applications for the spacings, associated with the order statistics from progressively Type-II censored samples, are also provided.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we assume that the lifetimes have a two-parameter Pareto distribution and discuss some results of progressive Type-II censored sample. We obtain maximum likelihood estimators and Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters under squared error loss and a precautionary loss functions in progressively Type-II censored sample. Robust Bayes estimation of unknown parameters over three different classes of priors under progressively Type-II censored sample, squared error loss, and precautionary loss functions are obtained. We discuss estimation of unknown parameters on competing risks progressive Type-II censoring. Finally, we consider the problem of estimating the common scale parameter of two Pareto distributions when samples are progressively Type-II censored.  相似文献

In this paper, Pitman closeness criterion is used to compare the nearness of record values and order statistics from two independent samples to a specific population quantile of the parent distribution while the underlying distributions are the same. General expressions for the associated Pitman closeness probability are obtained when the support of the parent distribution is bounded and also unbounded. Some distribution-free results are achieved for symmetric distributions. The exponential and uniform distributions are considered for illustrative proposes and exact expressions are obtained in each case.  相似文献

Suppose upper kth records were observed from an X-sequence of iid continuous random variables, and kth upper records from another independent Y-sequence of iid variables from the same distribution are to be observed. The Pitman closeness probabilities of these statistics are derived. For symmetric distribution, the Pitman closeness probabilities of kth record statistics to the population median, are also examined and it is shown that these probabilities are distribution free. Numerical computations are conducted to illustrate the results developed here.  相似文献

In this article, we develop a formal goodness-of-fit testing procedure for one-shot device testing data, in which each observation in the sample is either left censored or right censored. Such data are also called current status data. We provide an algorithm for calculating the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimate (NPMLE) of the unknown lifetime distribution based on such data. Then, we consider four different test statistics that can be used for testing the goodness-of-fit of accelerated failure time (AFT) model by the use of samples of residuals: a chi-square-type statistic based on the difference between the empirical and expected numbers of failures at each inspection time; two other statistics based on the difference between the NPMLE of the lifetime distribution obtained from one-shot device testing data and the distribution specified under the null hypothesis; as a final statistic, we use White's idea of comparing two estimators of the Fisher Information (FI) to propose a test statistic. We then compare these tests in terms of power, and draw some conclusions. Finally, we present an example to illustrate the proposed tests.  相似文献

Suppose upper records from two independent sequences from iid continuous random variables from the same distribution are observed. Pitman's measure of closeness of these statistics to population quantiles of the parent distribution is studied and various exact expressions are derived. For symmetric distributions, Pitman closeness probabilities of records to median are also obtained. Examples including exponential and uniform distributions are discussed. Numerical evaluations are presented to illustrate all the results developed here.  相似文献

An account to extreme value theory for progressively Type-II censored order statistics is presented which enables us to handle limit laws for upper and lower extreme, intermediate and central progressively Type-II censored order statistics within one framework. We illustrate that the extreme value analysis for progressively Type-II censored order statistics is connected to limit laws for sums of independent but not-identically distributed exponential random variables. Moreover, we show that the limits are transformations of extreme value distributions and illustrate the connection to extreme value analysis for order statistics.  相似文献

In this article, Pitman closeness of sample order statistics to population quantiles of a location-scale family of distributions is discussed. Explicit expressions are derived for some specific families such as uniform, exponential, and power function. Numerical results are then presented for these families for sample sizes n = 10,15, and for the choices of p = 0.10, 0.25, 0.75, 0.90. The Pitman-closest order statistic is also determined in these cases and presented.  相似文献

We consider the progressively Type-II censored competing risks model based on sequential order statistics. It is assumed that the latent failure times are independent and the failure of each unit influences the lifetime distributions of the latent failure times of surviving units. We provide explicit expressions for the likelihood function of the available data under the conditional proportional hazard rate (CPHR) and the power trend conditional proportional hazard rate (PTCPHR) models. Under CPHR and PTCPHR models and assumption that the baseline distributions of the latent failure times are exponential, classical and Bayesian estimates of the unknown parameters are provided. Monte Carlo simulations are then performed for illustrative purposes. Finally, two datasets are analyzed.  相似文献

A test for exponentiality based on progressively Type-II right censored spacings has been proposed recently by Balakrishnan et al. (2002). They derived the asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic. In this work, we utilize the algorithm of Huffer and Lin (2001) to evaluate the exact null probabilities and the exact critical values of this test statistic.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating the scale parameter of the inverse Rayleigh distribution based on general progressively Type-II censored samples and progressively Type-II censored samples. The pivotal quantity method is used to derive the estimator of the scale parameter. Besides, considering that the maximum likelihood estimator is tough to obtain for this distribution, we derive an explicit estimator of the scale parameter by approximating the likelihood equation with Taylor expansion. The interval estimation is also studied based on pivotal inference. Then we conduct Monte Carlo simulations and compare the performance of different estimators. We demonstrate that the pivotal inference is simpler and more effective. The further application of the pivotal quantity method is also discussed theoretically. Finally, two real data sets are analyzed using our methods.  相似文献
