LetX1,X2, ..., be real-valued random variables forming a strictly stationary sequence, and satisfying the basic requirement of being either pairwise positively quadrant dependent or pairwise negatively quadrant dependent. LetF^ be the marginal distribution function of theXips, which is estimated by the empirical distribution functionFn and also by a smooth kernel-type estimateFn, by means of the segmentX1, ...,Xn. These estimates are compared on the basis of their mean squared errors (MSE). The main results of this paper are the following. Under certain regularity conditions, the optimal bandwidth (in the MSE sense) is determined, and is found to be the same as that in the independent identically distributed case. It is also shown thatn MSE(Fn(t)) andnMSE (F^n(t)) tend to the same constant, asn→∞ so that one can not discriminate be tween the two estimates on the basis of the MSE. Next, ifi(n) = min {k∈{1, 2, ...}; MSE (Fk(t)) ≤ MSE (Fn(t))}, then it is proved thati(n)/n tends to 1, asn→∞. Thus, once again, one can not choose one estimate over the other in terms of their asymptotic relative efficiency. If, however, the squared bias ofF^n(t) tends to 0 sufficiently fast, or equivalently, the bandwidthhn satisfies the requirement thatnh3n→ 0, asn→∞, it is shown that, for a suitable choice of the kernel, (i(n) ?n)/(nhn) tends to a positive number, asn→∞ It follows that the deficiency ofFn(t) with respect toF^n(t),i(n) ?n, is substantial, and, actually, tends to ∞, asn→∞. This paper deals with an empirical Bayes testing problem for the mean lifetimes of exponential distributions with unequal sample sizes. We study a method to construct empirical Bayes tests {δ* nl + 1,n } n = 1 for the sequence of the testing problems. The asymptotic optimality of {δ* nl + 1,n } n = 1 is studied. It is shown that the sequence of empirical Bayes tests {δ* nl + 1,n } n = 1 is asymptotically optimal, and its associated sequence of regrets converges to zero at a rate (ln n)4M?1/n, where M is an upper bound of sample sizes.  相似文献

An important statistical problem is to construct a confidence set for some functional T(P) of some unknown probability distribution P. Typically, this involves approximating the sampling distribution Jn(P) of some pivot based on a sample of size n from P. A bootstrap procedure is to estimate Jn(P) by Jn(&Pcirc;n), where P?n is the empirical measure based on a sample of size n from P. Typically, one has that Jn(P) and Jn(P?n) are close in an appropriate sense. Two questions are addressed in this note. Are Jn(P) and Jn(P?n) uniformly close as P varies as well? If so, do confidence statements about T(P) possess a corresponding uniformity property? In the case T(P) = P, the answer to the first questions is yes; the answer to the second is no. However, bootstrap confidence statements about T(P) can be made uniform over a restricted, though large, class of P. Similar results apply to other functional T(P).  相似文献

The least-squares estimate θn = Xn+yn of the parameter θ in the linear model Yn = Xnθ + ?n may not be consistent, but there may be directions u such that un tends to u'θ in some sense. This set of directions u has been characterized in two different papers: Drygas (1976) and Wu (1980). The conditions for consistency appear to be different in the two papers. This paper provides tables for the construction and selection of tightened–normal–tightened variables sampling scheme of type TNTVSS (n 1, n 2; k). The method of designing the scheme indexed by (AQL, α) and (LQL, β) is indicated. The TNTVSS (n T , n N; k) is compared with conventional single sampling plans for variables and with TNT (n 1, n 2; c) scheme for attributes, and it is shown that the TNTVSS is more efficient.  相似文献

The problem of nonparametric estimation of a probability density function when the sample observations are contaminated with random noise is studied. A particular estimator f?n(x) is proposed which uses kernel-density and deconvolution techniques. The estimator f?n(x) is shown to be uniformly consistent, and its appearance and properties are affected by constants Mn and hn which the user may choose. The optimal choices of Mn and hn depend on the sample size n, the noise distribution, and the true distribution which is being estimated. Particular selections for Mn and hn which minimize upper-bound functions of the mean squared error for f?n(x) are recommended.  相似文献

Suppose (X, Y) has a Downton's bivariate exponential distribution with correlation ρ. For a random sample of size n from (X, Y), let X r:n be the rth X-order statistic and Y [r:n] be its concomitant. We investigate estimators of ρ when all the parameters are unknown and the available data is an incomplete bivariate sample made up of (i) all the Y-values and the ranks of associated X-values, i.e. (i, Y [i:n]), 1≤in, and (ii) a Type II right-censored bivariate sample consisting of (X i:n , Y [i:n]), 1≤ir<n. In both setups, we use simulation to examine the bias and mean square errors of several estimators of ρ and obtain their estimated relative efficiencies. The preferred estimator under (i) is a function of the sample correlation of (Y i:n , Y [i:n]) values, and under (ii), a method of moments estimator involving the regression function is preferred.  相似文献

In this article we obtain some novel results on pairwise quasi-asymptotically independent (pQAI) random variables. Concretely speaking, let X1, …, Xn be n real-valued pQAI random variables, and W1, …, Wn be another n non negative and arbitrarily dependent random variables, but independent of X1, …, Xn. Under some mild conditions, we prove that W1X1, …, WnXn are still pQAI as well. Our result is in a general setting whether the primary random variables X1, …, Xn are heavy-tailed or not. Finally, a special case of above result is applied to risk theory for investigating the finite-time ruin probability for a discrete-time risk model with a wide type of dependence structure.  相似文献
