新城市主义:永恒的完美人居之梦

一、引言:梦与现实--认识"新城市主义" "郊区的一栋房子,有草坪的院子,汽车,温柔的妻子,一子一女两个活泼的孩子,还有一条忠实的狗"--这是典型的"美国梦",浪漫而温馨的梦.但是,现实总是现实,追求自我、崇尚个体的美国梦是导致美国城市郊区恶性蔓延的重要思想根源.虽然,梦想本身没有错,但是,若每个人都有同样的梦,其结果就不仅仅是梦想那么简单了."二战"后,城市人口膨胀、追求自我的美国梦的引导以及先进科学技术的支持,促使美国城市普遍郊区化,并进而导致了一系列的城市问题,如社区结构瓦解、社会关系网络断裂、郊区环境恶化、城市中心区衰退等.

关于《推销员之死》的传统评论大多是从社会学和资本主义制度的视角进行分析,认为主人公威利?洛曼的悲剧主要是由于所追求的美国梦的破灭这个外因所致,而鲜有从主人公的潜意识深处探求悲剧原因.本文主要从精神分析的角度探究威利?洛曼的自杀动机,运用拉康的主体欲望理论深入探究主人公的心理发展历程,论证威利?洛曼如何在欲望的驱动力下一步步走向死亡.通过追求理想他者而寻求理想自我,在滑动的能指链上不停地转换欲望对象,但所指的缺失最终让他的欲望一再被压抑,最终只能通过死亡让压抑已久的欲望得以释放.     

从存在主义视角看《晃来晃去的人》

《晃来晃去的人》是著名的美国作家索尔·贝娄的一部佳作,全文以日记形式展开,该日记体小说描绘了美国萧条时期犹太人的生存现状,主人公约瑟夫追寻自我和人生的意义,途中经历了很多次心灵的流浪,但是最后却无疾而终。从存在主义的角度对该作品进行解读,从存在主义的概述中分析了荒诞世界下的"存在"和心灵流浪中的"自由",发掘这本书中描写的存在与存在主义观念的异同。

从《论自由》到《代议制政府》:追求真理之推进

在密尔的思想中,自由之所以是至关重要的,是因为其有利于对真理的追求和社会的持续进步,追求真理和推动社会进步才是密尔的真正目的。(1)密尔的两部作品《论自由》和《代议制政府》都是围绕如何实现这个目的而展开的,或者说是围绕如何充分地实现作为条件的自由而展开的,但是在这两部作品中其对政府却表现出了完全不同的态度。在这两种对政府的不同态度背后所体现出来的则是密尔在如何追求真理和推动社会进步这个问题上的持续思考。

Mark Twain is one of the greatest American writers in the 19th century.The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is the great masterpiece of the American writer.The book narrates the journey of a white teenager Huck and a black slave Jim down the Mississippi River.The present thesis intends to analyze the children’s narrative in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,and appreciate his perfect skills in integrating children’s literature and serious literature,and thus the readers can get a better understanding of its theme and characterization.     

Huck Finn and the game model gloss

Several authors have cited the metaphor of game playing as an analytical device to study social behavior. Traditionally, the game model has been used either to promote a more strict or instrumental control upon actual social behavior or to match a formal game model construction of a social event with actual behavior in everyday life, and through this method shed light upon aspects which otherwise would be overlooked. In another connection, various authors have discussed the concept of glossing in social relations. This paper uses Mark Twain's last chapters ofThe Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to explicate how the game model can be used as a gloss. The game model gloss then is a unique combination of sociological conceptualizations presented through the medium of a lively literary allegory. We feel this paper extends the concept of glossing and furthers the understanding of the game metaphor in sociological theory.This paper has been presented at the Spring 1977 meetings of the Southern Sociological Society in Atlanta, Georgia.     

Somewhere Between: Social Embeddedness and the Spectrum of Wild Edible Huckleberry Harvest and Use

Abstract This case study is centered in northeast Washington State and northern Idaho and focuses on the social ecology of the wild edible huckleberry. The theoretical notion of social embeddedness is the lens through which the harvest and use of this much‐prized resource is viewed and analyzed. Using grounded theory as an over‐arching method, qualitative data were collected over two harvesting seasons regarding who harvests huckleberries in the study area and why. Four categories of use/users were identified. The results suggest a rich tapestry of social relations surrounding this resource that belies the simplistic notion of “commercial” vs. “recreational” use. These relations include temporal, geographic, economic, and cultural dimensions. Policy implications include the need to move beyond the commercial/recreational dichotomy in regulating the harvest of berries as well as the need to link the notions of community forestry and subsistence to the harvest of non‐timber forest products more generally.

中国经济崛起和城市化进程过程中农民工的贡献有目共睹,城市让生活更美好的诱惑使得中国的新老两代农民工从农村流入城市,2008年1月1日的《劳动合同法》和《劳动争议调解仲裁法》让社会看到了改善农民工权利状况的希望,然而新生代农民工的权利保护尤其是作为一名劳动者的权利保护的现状依然不如人意,没有救济的权利不是真正的权利、迟来的正义是非正义,每年岁末对于农民工权益的突击性保障并不能从根本上解决问题,把包括农民工权益保障的社会问题纳入法治框架内、通过探析新生代农民工权利阙如问题及原因进而发现从制度层面进行解决才是解决农民工权益保障问题的根本途径。     

Mobility of students and attractiveness of universities. The case of Sapienza University of Rome

Human mobility is a complex and multifaceted phenomenon. While labour migration has been widely and deeply investigated – through theoretical and empirical analysis – other forms of mobility have received much less attention. Students' mobility is a peculiar form of temporary movement that can be considered as neither migration nor tourism. It is rapidly growing: in the period 1975–2005 the number of tertiary education students abroad increased fourfold, from 0.61 million to 2.73 million, following the trend of the internationalization of economy and globalization of culture. In 2009 almost 3.7 million tertiary students were enrolled outside their country of origin, an increase of more than 6% from the previous year.

In this paper we analyse the international mobility of university students, using a unique data set built through surveys conducted at the Sapienza University of Rome. The data collected cover a rich array of information on students' characteristics and backgrounds, provenance places, family conditions, individual aspirations, and job preferences. The empirical analysis of those data offers an opportunity for understanding a relevant part of mobility decisions of (prospective) highly qualified workers. The Sapienza University, moreover, is at present the largest university in Europe for number of students and a pole of attraction for both European and non-European students. This allows us to enlarge our analysis at a global level.     

The Importance of Personal Possessions for the Development of a Sense of Home of Nursing Home Residents

ABSTRACT

Personal possessions of nursing home residents can contribute to their sense of home. This study investigated which of the personal belongings were considered most important, and if these items indeed contributed to a sense of home. A qualitative research was conducted with 27 nursing home residents. Photographs, paintings, and pieces of furniture are objects with sentimental value. The television set is valued for its practical function. Residents of larger rooms have more flexibility in bringing along personal items, including pieces of furniture. The results of this study can be used for the design of nursing homes or for making informed choices during the process of institutionalization.     

The contextualization of definitions of religion

The author insists on the need to take the social-structural context into account to evaluate the existing types of definitions of religion. Proposing a definition for the Western hemisphere, he then checks his definition against sociological studies referring to ‘new types of religiosity’ and concludes that sociologists should differentiate between meaning systems – of which religion is a sub-division – and spiritualities. In a second step, he discusses two sociological theories about religion and insists that sociologists should be more careful in using such theories by taking into consideration the type of religion the theory is concerned with. Finally, he suggests that rational choice theory and secularization theory might well be integrated and applied in a European context if we move to the level of the competing existing meaning systems.
