Let (X, Y) be a bivariate random vector with joint distribution function FX, Y(x, y) = C(F(x), G(y)), where C is a copula and F and G are marginal distributions of X and Y, respectively. Suppose that (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, …, n is a random sample from (X, Y) but we are able to observe only the data consisting of those pairs (Xi, Yi) for which Xi ? Yi. We denote such pairs as (X*i, Yi*), i = 1, 2, …, ν, where ν is a random variable. The main problem of interest is to express the distribution function FX, Y(x, y) and marginal distributions F and G with the distribution function of observed random variables X* and Y*. It is shown that if X and Y are exchangeable with marginal distribution function F, then F can be uniquely determined by the distributions of X* and Y*. It is also shown that if X and Y are independent and absolutely continuous, then F and G can be expressed through the distribution functions of X* and Y* and the stress–strength reliability P{X ? Y}. This allows also to estimate P{X ? Y} with the truncated observations (X*i, Yi*). The copula of bivariate random vector (X*, Y*) is also derived.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of estimating the probability P = Pr(X < Y) when X and Y are independent exponential random variables with unequal scale parameters and a common location parameter. Uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimator of P is obtained. The asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator is obtained and then the asymptotic equivalence of the two estimators is established. Performance of the two estimators for moderate sample sizes is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. An approximate interval estimator is also obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, we estimate the reliability of a component subjected to two different stresses which are independent of the strength of a component. We assume that the distribution of stresses follow a bivariate exponential (BVE) distribution. If X is the strength of a component subjected to two stresses (Y 1,Y 2), then the reliability of a component is given by R=P[Y 1+Y 2<X]. We estimate R when (Y 1,Y 2) follow different BVE models proposed by Marshall-Olkin (1967), Block-Basu-(1974), Freund (1961) and Proschan-Sullo (1974). The distribution of X is assumed to be exponential. The asymptotic normal (AN) distributions of these estimates of R are obtained.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The problem of estimation of R = P(Y < X) have been used in the paper. Let X has exponential distribution mixing with exponential distribution with parameters β and θ and Y independently of X has exponential distribution with parameter λ. By using a prior guess or estimate R0, different shrinkage estimators of R are derived. Then the performance of the estimators are discussed. Finally, we compare these results with Baklizei and Dayyeh (2003) approaches.  相似文献

This paper discusses the choice of sample size for experiments concerned with inference on R = P(Y < X), where X and Y are normal variates, in an acceptance-sampling-theory framework. A conservative approach is derived, and the properties of this solution examined by simulation.  相似文献

Summary The Zenga index, , is shown to be a concentration index, in the sense that, ifX andY are non negative random variables with 0<E(X), E(Y)<+∞, then (X)⩾ (Y) whenever the Lorenz curves satisfyL x(p)≤L y(p) for all p. A basic concept for comparing spread among probability distributions is that of dispersive ordering. Let X and Y be two random variables with distribution functions F and G, respectively. Let F −1 and G −1 be their right continuous inverses (quantile functions). We say that Y is less dispersed than X (Y≤ disp X) if G −1(β)−G −1(α)≤F −1(β)−F −1(α), for all 0<α≤β<1. This means that the difference between any two quantiles of G is smaller than the difference between the corresponding quantiles of F. A consequence of Y≤ disp X is that |Y 1Y 2| is stochastically smaller than |X 1X 2| and this in turn implies var(Y)var(X) as well as E[|Y 1Y 2|]≤E[|X 1X 2|], where X 1, X 2 (Y 1, Y 2) are two independent copies of X(Y). In this review paper, we give several examples and applications of dispersive ordering in statistics. Examples include those related to order statistics, spacings, convolution of non-identically distributed random variables and epoch times of non-homogeneous Poisson processes. The object of this paper is the statistical analysis of Several Closely related models arising in water quality analysis. In particular, concern is with the autoregressive scheme Xr = ρXr?1 + Yr where 0 < ρ < 1 and Y's are i.i.d, and non-negative. The estimation and testing problem is considered for three parametric models - Gaussian, uniform and exponential - as well as for the nonparametric case where it is assumed that the Y's have a positive continuous distribution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider the estimation of R = P(Y < X), when Y and X are two independent three-parameter Lindley (LI) random variables. On the basis of two independent samples, the modified maximum likelihood estimator along its asymptotic behavior and conditional likelihood-based estimator are used to estimate R. We also propose sample-based estimate of R and the associated credible interval based on importance sampling procedure. A real life data set involving the times to breakdown of an insulating fluid is presented and analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, we are interested in the estimation of the reliability parameter R = P(X > Y) where X, a component strength, and Y, a component stress, are independent power Lindley random variables. The point and interval estimation of R, based on maximum likelihood, nonparametric and parametric bootstrap methods, are developed. The performance of the point estimate and confidence interval of R under the considered estimation methods is studied through extensive simulation. A numerical example, based on a real data, is presented to illustrate the proposed procedure.  相似文献

In this paper, by considering a (3n+1) -dimensional random vector (X0, XT, YT, ZT)T having a multivariate elliptical distribution, we derive the exact joint distribution of (X0, aTX(n), bTY[n], cTZ[n])T, where a, b, c∈?n, X(n)=(X(1), …, X(n))T, X(1)<···<X(n), is the vector of order statistics arising from X, and Y[n]=(Y[1], …, Y[n])T and Z[n]=(Z[1], …, Z[n])T denote the vectors of concomitants corresponding to X(n) ((Y[r], Z[r])T, for r=1, …, n, is the vector of bivariate concomitants corresponding to X(r)). We then present an alternate approach for the derivation of the exact joint distribution of (X0, X(r), Y[r], Z[r])T, for r=1, …, n. We show that these joint distributions can be expressed as mixtures of four-variate unified skew-elliptical distributions and these mixture forms facilitate the prediction of X(r), say, based on the concomitants Y[r] and Z[r]. Finally, we illustrate the usefulness of our results by a real data.  相似文献

This paper deals with the estimation of reliability R = P(Y < X) when X is a random strength of a component subjected to a random stress Y, and (X, Y) follows a bivariate Rayleigh distribution. The maximum likelihood estimator of R and its asymptotic distribution are obtained. An asymptotic confidence interval of R is constructed using the asymptotic distribution. Also, two confidence intervals are proposed based on Bootstrap method and a computational approach. Testing of the reliability based on asymptotic distribution of R is discussed. Simulation study to investigate performance of the confidence intervals and tests has been carried out. Also, a numerical example is given to illustrate the proposed approaches.  相似文献

This article deals with the estimation of R = P{X < Y}, where X and Y are independent random variables from geometric and exponential distribution, respectively. For complete samples, the MLE of R, its asymptotic distribution, and confidence interval based on it are obtained. The procedure for deriving bootstrap-p confidence interval is presented. The UMVUE of R and UMVUE of its variance are derived. The Bayes estimator of R is investigated and its Lindley's approximation is obtained. A simulation study is performed in order to compare these estimators. Finally, all point estimators for right censored sample from the exponential distribution, are obtained.  相似文献

It is well known that X/(X+Y) has the beta distribution when X and Y follow the inverted Dirichlet distribution. In this paper, we derive the exact distribution of the product P=XY (involving the Gauss hypergeometric function) and the corresponding moment properties. We also propose two approximations and show evidence of their goodness of fit. The work is motivated by real-life examples.  相似文献

The distributions of linear combinations, products and ratios of random variables arise in many areas of engineering. In this paper, the exact distributions of the linear combination α XY, the product |X Y| and the ratio |X/Y| are derived when X and Y are independent Laplace random variables. The Laplace distribution, being the oldest model for continuous data, has been one of the most popular models for measurement errors in engineering.  相似文献

Abstract

Motivated by Caginalp and Caginalp [Physica A—Statistical Mechanics and Its Applications, 499, 2018, 457–471], we derive the exact distribution of X/Y conditioned on X?>?0, Y?>?0 for more than ten classes of distributions, including the bivariate t, bivariate Cauchy, bivariate Lomax, Arnold and Strauss’ bivariate exponential, Balakrishna and Shiji’s bivariate exponential, Mohsin et al.’s bivariate exponential, Morgenstern type bivariate exponential, bivariate gamma exponential and bivariate alpha skew normal distributions. The results can be useful in finance and other areas.  相似文献

In this article, we obtain the UMVUE of the reliability function ξ=P(Y>X) and the UMVUE of ξ k =[P(Y>X)] k in the two-parameter exponential distributions with known scale parameters. We also derive the distribution of the UMVUE of ξ and further considering the tests of hypotheses regarding the reliability function ξ.  相似文献
