ABSTRACT

Consider k(≥ 2) independent exponential populations Π1, Π2, …, Π k , having the common unknown location parameter μ ∈ (?∞, ∞) (also called the guarantee time) and unknown scale parameters σ1, σ2, …σ k , respectively (also called the remaining mean lifetimes after the completion of guarantee times), σ i  > 0, i = 1, 2, …, k. Assume that the correct ordering between σ1, σ2, …, σ k is not known apriori and let σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k, denote the ith smallest of σ j s, so that σ[1] ≤ σ[2] ··· ≤ σ[k]. Then Θ i  = μ + σ i is the mean lifetime of Π i , i = 1, 2, …, k. Let Θ[1] ≤ Θ[2] ··· ≤ Θ[k] denote the ranked values of the Θ j s, so that Θ[i] = μ + σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k, and let Π(i) denote the unknown population associated with the ith smallest mean lifetime Θ[i] = μ + σ[i], i = 1, 2, …, k. Based on independent random samples from the k populations, we propose a selection procedure for the goal of selecting the population having the longest mean lifetime Θ[k] (called the “best” population), under the subset selection formulation. Tables for the implementation of the proposed selection procedure are provided. It is established that the proposed subset selection procedure is monotone for a general k (≥ 2). For k = 2, we consider the loss measured by the size of the selected subset and establish that the proposed subset selection procedure is minimax among selection procedures that satisfy a certain probability requirement (called the P*-condition) for the inclusion of the best population in the selected subset.  相似文献

Likelihood ratio tests are considered for two testing situations; testing for the homogeneity of k normal means against the alternative restricted by a simple tree ordering trend and testing the null hypothesis that the means satisfy the trend against all alternatives. Exact expressions are given for the power functions for k = 3 and 4 and unequal sample sizes, both for the case of known and unknown population variances, and approximations are discussed for larger k. Also, Bartholomew’s conjectures concerning minimal and maximal powers are investigated for the case of equal and unequal sample sizes. The power formulas are used to compute powers for a numerical example.  相似文献

The likelihood-ratio test (LRT) is considered as a goodness-of-fit test for the null hypothesis that several distribution functions are uniformly stochastically ordered. Under the null hypothesis, H1 : F1 ? F2 ?···? FN, the asymptotic distribution of the LRT statistic is a convolution of several chi-bar-square distributions each of which depends upon the location parameter. The least-favourable parameter configuration for the LRT is not unique. It can be two different types and depends on the number of distributions, the number of intervals and the significance level α. This testing method is illustrated with a data set of survival times of five groups of male fruit flies.  相似文献

Let ?(1) and ?(2) be location-equivariant estimators of an unknown location parameter μ. It is shown that the test for H0: μ ≤ μ0 versus HA : μ > μ0 that rejects H0 if ?(1) is large is uniformly more powerful than the one that rejects H0 if ?(2) is large if and only if ?(2) is “more dispersed” than ?(1). A similar result is obtained for tests on scale using the star-shaped ordering. Examples are given.  相似文献

A new procedure for testing the H 0: μ1 = ··· = μ k against the alternative H u 1 ≥ ··· ≥μ r  ≤ ··· ≤ μ k with at least one strict inequality, where μ i is the location parameter of the ith two-parameter exponential distribution, i = 1,…, k, is proposed. Exact critical constants are computed using a recursive integration algorithm. Tables containing these critical constants are provided to facilitate the implementation of the proposed test procedure. Simultaneous confidence intervals for certain contrasts of the location parameters are derived by inverting the proposed test statistic. In comparison to existing tests, it is shown, by a simulation study, that the new test statistic is more powerful in detecting U-shaped alternatives when the samples are derived from exponential distributions. As an extension, the use of the critical constants for comparing Pareto distribution parameters is discussed.  相似文献

We study the behavior of bivariate empirical copula process 𝔾 n (·, ·) on pavements [0, k n /n]2 of [0, 1]2, where k n is a sequence of positive constants fulfilling some conditions. We provide a upper bound for the strong approximation of 𝔾 n (·, ·) by a Gaussian process when k n /n↘γ as n → ∞, where 0 ≤ γ ≤1.  相似文献

Abstract

Let the data from the ith treatment/population follow a distribution with cumulative distribution function (cdf) F i (x) = F[(x ? μ i )/θ i ], i = 1,…, k (k ≥ 2). Here μ i (?∞ < μ i  < ∞) is the location parameter, θ i i  > 0) is the scale parameter and F(?) is any absolutely continuous cdf, i.e., F i (?) is a member of location-scale family, i = 1,…, k. In this paper, we propose a class of tests to test the null hypothesis H 0 ? θ1 = · = θ k against the simple ordered alternative H A  ? θ1 ≤ · ≤ θ k with at least one strict inequality. In literature, use of sample quasi range as a measure of dispersion has been advocated for small sample size or sample contaminated by outliers [see David, H. A. (1981). Order Statistics. 2nd ed. New York: John Wiley, Sec. 7.4]. Let X i1,…, X in be a random sample of size n from the population π i and R ir  = X i:n?r  ? X i:r+1, r = 0, 1,…, [n/2] ? 1 be the sample quasi range corresponding to this random sample, where X i:j represents the jth order statistic in the ith sample, j = 1,…, n; i = 1,…, k and [x] is the greatest integer less than or equal to x. The proposed class of tests, for the general location scale setup, is based on the statistic W r  = max1≤i<jk (R jr /R ir ). The test is reject H 0 for large values of W r . The construction of a three-decision procedure and simultaneous one-sided lower confidence bounds for the ratios, θ j i , 1 ≤ i < j ≤ k, have also been discussed with the help of the critical constants of the test statistic W r . Applications of the proposed class of tests to two parameter exponential and uniform probability models have been discussed separately with necessary tables. Comparisons of some members of our class with the tests of Gill and Dhawan [Gill A. N., Dhawan A. K. (1999). A One-sided test for testing homogeneity of scale parameters against ordered alternative. Commun. Stat. – Theory and Methods 28(10):2417–2439] and Kochar and Gupta [Kochar, S. C., Gupta, R. P. (1985). A class of distribution-free tests for testing homogeneity of variances against ordered alternatives. In: Dykstra, R. et al., ed. Proceedings of the Conference on Advances in Order Restricted Statistical Inference at Iowa city. Springer Verlag, pp. 169–183], in terms of simulated power, are also presented.  相似文献

The authors consider the situation of incomplete rankings in which n judges independently rank ki ∈ {2, …, t} objects. They wish to test the null hypothesis that each judge picks the ranking at random from the space of ki! permutations of the integers 1, …, ki. The statistic considered is a generalization of the Friedman test in which the ranks assigned by each judge are replaced by real‐valued functions a(j, ki), 1 ≤ jkit of the ranks. The authors define a measure of pairwise similarity between complete rankings based on such functions, and use averages of such similarities to construct measures of the level of concordance of the judges' rankings. In the complete ranking case, the resulting statistics coincide with those defined by Hájek & ?idák (1967, p. 118), and Sen (1968). These measures of similarity are extended to the situation of incomplete rankings. A statistic is derived in this more general situation and its properties are investigated.  相似文献

Let X= (X1,…, Xk)’ be a k-variate (k ≥ 2) normal random vector with unknown population mean vector μ = (μ1 ,…, μk)’ and covariance matrix Σ of order k and let μ[1] ≤ … ≤ μ[k] be the ordered values of the μ ’ s. No prior knowledge of the pairing of the μ[i] with the Xj. (or μ[i] with the σj 2) is assumed for any i and j (1 ≤ i, j ≤ k). Based on a random sample of N independent vector observations on X, this paper considers both upper and lower (one-sided) and two-sided 100γ% (0 < γ < 1) confidence intervals for μ[k] and μ[1], the largest and the smallest mean, respectively, when Σ is known and when Σ is equal to σ2R with common unknown variance σ2 > 0 and correlation matrix R known, respectively. An optimum two-sided confidence interval via finding the shortest length from this class is also considered. Necessary tables and computer program to actually apply these procedures are provided.  相似文献

Let X 1, …, X [], X [] + 1, …, X n be a sequence of independent random variables (the “lifetimes”) such that X j ? F 1 for 1 ≤ j ≤ [] and X j ? F 2 for [] + 1 ≤ jn, with F 1 F 2 unknown. In this paper we investigate an estimator θ n for the changepoint θ if the X's are subject to censoring. The rate of almost sure convergence of θ n to θ is established and a test for the hypothesis θ = 0, i.e. “no change”, is proposed.  相似文献

Let X1:n ≤ X2:n ≤···≤ Xn:n denote the order statistics of a sample of n independent random variables X1, X2,…, Xn, all identically distributed as some X. It is shown that if X has a log-convex [log-concave] density function, then the general spacing vector (Xk1:n, Xk2:n ? Xk1:n,…, Xkr:n ? Xkr?1:n) is MTP2 [S-MRR2] whenever 1 ≤ k1 < k2 <···< kr ≤ n and 1 ≤ r ≤ n. Multivariate likelihood ratio ordering of such general spacing vectors corresponding to two random samples is also considered. These extend some of the results in the literature for usual spacing vectors.  相似文献

Suppose that Xi are independent random variables, and that Xi has cdf Fi (x), 1 ≤ ik. Many statistical problems involve the probability Pr{X 1 < X 2 < ··· < Xk }. In this note a numerical method is proposed for computing this probability.  相似文献

There are numerous situations in categorical data analysis where one wishes to test hypotheses involving a set of linear inequality constraints placed upon the cell probabilities. For example, it may be of interest to test for symmetry in k × k contingency tables against one-sided alternatives. In this case, the null hypothesis imposes a set of linear equalities on the cell probabilities (namely pij = Pji ×i > j), whereas the alternative specifies directional inequalities. Another important application (Robertson, Wright, and Dykstra 1988) is testing for or against stochastic ordering between the marginals of a k × k contingency table when the variables are ordinal and independence holds. Here we extend existing likelihood-ratio results to cover more general situations. To be specific, we consider testing Ht,0 against H1 - H0 and H1 against H2 - H 1 when H0:k × i=1 pixji = 0, j = 1,…, s, H1:k × i=1 pixji × 0, j = 1,…, s, and does not impose any restrictions on p. The xji's are known constants, and s × k - 1. We show that the asymptotic distributions of the likelihood-ratio tests are of chi-bar-square type, and provide expressions for the weighting values.  相似文献

Abstract There are given k (≥22) independent distributions with c.d.f.'s F(x;θj) indexed by a scale parameter θj, j = 1,…, k. Let θ[i] (i = 1,…, k) denote the ith smallest one of θ1,…, θk. In this paper we wish to show that, under some regularity conditions, there does not exist an exact β-level (0≤β1) confidence interval for the ith smallest scale parameter θi based on k independent samples. Since the log transformation method may not yield the desired results for the scale parameter problem, we will treat the scale parameter case directly without transformation. Application is considered for normal variances. Two conservative one-sided confidence intervals for the ith smallest normal variance and the percentage points needed to actually apply the intervals are provided.  相似文献

Suppose that data {(x l,i,n , y l,i,n ): l?=?1, …, k; i?=?1, …, n} are observed from the regression models: Y l,i,n ?=?m l (x l,i,n )?+?? l,i,n , l?=?1, …, k, where the regression functions {m l } l=1 k are unknown and the random errors {? l,i,n } are dependent, following an MA(∞) structure. A new test is proposed for testing the hypothesis H 0: m 1?=?·?·?·?=?m k , without assuming that {m l } l=1 k are in a parametric family. The criterion of the test derives from a Crámer-von-Mises-type functional based on different distances between {[mcirc]} l and {[mcirc]} s , l?≠?s, l, s?=?1, …, k, where {[mcirc] l } l=1 k are nonparametric Gasser–Müller estimators of {m l } l=1 k . A generalization of the test to the case of unequal design points, with different sample sizes {n l } l=1 k and different design densities {f l } l=1 k , is also considered. The asymptotic normality of the test statistic is obtained under general conditions. Finally, a simulation study and an analysis with real data show a good behavior of the proposed test.  相似文献

We study the characteristics of the Pickands' dependence function for bivariate extreme distribution for minima, BEVM, when considering the stochastics ordering of the two variables, X < Y. The existing Pickand's dependence function terminologies and theories are modified to suit the dependence functions of extreme minimum cases. The main result is the introduction of the restricted logistic dependence function, A RL , and the restricted exponential function, V RL (x, y).  相似文献

In an earlier paper the authors (1997) extended the results of Hayter (1990) to the two parameter exponential probability model. This paper addressee the extention to the scale parameter case under location-scale probability model. Consider k (k≧3) treatments or competing firms such that an observation from with treatment or firm follows a distribution with cumulative distribution function (cdf) Fi(x)=F[(x-μi)/Qi], where F(·) is any absolutely continuous cdf, i=1,…,k. We propose a test to test the null hypothesis H01=…=θk against the simple ordered alternative H11≦…≦θk, with at least one strict inequality, using the data Xi,j, i=1,…k; j=1,…,n1. Two methods to compute the critical points of the proposed test have been demonstrated by talking k two parameter exponential distributions. The test procedure also allows us to construct simultaneous one sided confidence intervals (SOCIs) for the ordered pairwise ratios θji, 1≦i<j≦k. Statistical simulation revealed that: 9i) actual sizes of the critical points are almost conservative and (ii) power of the proposed test relative to some existing tests is higher.  相似文献
