The study of a linear regression model with an interval-censored covariate, which was motivated by an acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) clinical trial, was first proposed by Gómez et al. They developed a likelihood approach, together with a two-step conditional algorithm, to estimate the regression coefficients in the model. However, their method is inapplicable when the interval-censored covariate is continuous. In this article, we propose a novel and fast method to treat the continuous interval-censored covariate. By using logspline density estimation, we impute the interval-censored covariate with a conditional expectation. Then, the ordinary least-squares method is applied to the linear regression model with the imputed covariate. To assess the performance of the proposed method, we compare our imputation with the midpoint imputation and the semiparametric hierarchical method via simulations. Furthermore, an application to the AIDS clinical trial is presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a multivariate linear model with complete/incomplete data, where the regression coefficients are subject to a set of linear inequality restrictions. We first develop an expectation/conditional maximization (ECM) algorithm for calculating restricted maximum likelihood estimates of parameters of interest. We then establish the corresponding convergence properties for the proposed ECM algorithm. Applications to growth curve models and linear mixed models are presented. Confidence interval construction via the double-bootstrap method is provided. Some simulation studies are performed and a real example is used to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

We propose a profile conditional likelihood approach to handle missing covariates in the general semiparametric transformation regression model. The method estimates the marginal survival function by the Kaplan-Meier estimator, and then estimates the parameters of the survival model and the covariate distribution from a conditional likelihood, substituting the Kaplan-Meier estimator for the marginal survival function in the conditional likelihood. This method is simpler than full maximum likelihood approaches, and yields consistent and asymptotically normally distributed estimator of the regression parameter when censoring is independent of the covariates. The estimator demonstrates very high relative efficiency in simulations. When compared with complete-case analysis, the proposed estimator can be more efficient when the missing data are missing completely at random and can correct bias when the missing data are missing at random. The potential application of the proposed method to the generalized probit model with missing continuous covariates is also outlined.  相似文献

The value at risk (VaR) is a risk measure that is widely used by financial institutions to allocate risk. VaR forecast estimation involves the evaluation of conditional quantiles based on the currently available information. Recent advances in VaR evaluation incorporate conditional variance into the quantile estimation, which yields the conditional autoregressive VaR (CAViaR) models. However, uncertainty with regard to model selection in CAViaR model estimators raises the issue of identifying the better quantile predictor via averaging. In this study, we propose a quasi-Bayesian model averaging method that generates combinations of conditional VaR estimators based on single CAViaR models. This approach provides us a basis for comparing single CAViaR models against averaged ones for their ability to forecast VaR. We illustrate this method using simulated and financial daily return data series. The results demonstrate significant findings with regard to the use of averaged conditional VaR estimates when forecasting quantile risk.  相似文献

On the basis of the idea of the Nadaraya–Watson (NW) kernel smoother and the technique of the local linear (LL) smoother, we construct the NW and LL estimators of conditional mean functions and their derivatives for a left‐truncated and right‐censored model. The target function includes the regression function, the conditional moment and the conditional distribution function as special cases. It is assumed that the lifetime observations with covariates form a stationary α‐mixing sequence. Asymptotic normality of the estimators is established. Finite sample behaviour of the estimators is investigated via simulations. A real data illustration is included too.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for listing the sample space for a conditional distribution in a discrete generalized linear model. This tabulation is used in conjunction with saddlepoint methods to approximate the associated conditional probabilities. These probabilities are used to calculate conditional p-values.  相似文献

Estimation of the single-index model with a discontinuous unknown link function is considered in this paper. Existed refined minimum average variance estimation (rMAVE) method can estimate the single-index parameter and unknown link function simultaneously by minimising the average pointwise conditional variance, where the conditional variance can be estimated using the local linear fit method with centred kernel function. When there are jumps in the link function, big biases around jumps can appear. For this reason, we embed the jump-preserving technique in the rMAVE method, then propose an adaptive jump-preserving estimation procedure for the single-index model. Concretely speaking, the conditional variance is obtained by the one among local linear fits with centred, left-sided and right-sided kernel functions who has minimum weighted residual mean squares. The resulting estimators can preserve the jumps well and also give smooth estimates of the continuity parts. Asymptotic properties are established under some mild conditions. Simulations and real data analysis show the proposed method works well.  相似文献

We propose a method for estimating parameters in generalized linear models with missing covariates and a non-ignorable missing data mechanism. We use a multinomial model for the missing data indicators and propose a joint distribution for them which can be written as a sequence of one-dimensional conditional distributions, with each one-dimensional conditional distribution consisting of a logistic regression. We allow the covariates to be either categorical or continuous. The joint covariate distribution is also modelled via a sequence of one-dimensional conditional distributions, and the response variable is assumed to be completely observed. We derive the E- and M-steps of the EM algorithm with non-ignorable missing covariate data. For categorical covariates, we derive a closed form expression for the E- and M-steps of the EM algorithm for obtaining the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs). For continuous covariates, we use a Monte Carlo version of the EM algorithm to obtain the MLEs via the Gibbs sampler. Computational techniques for Gibbs sampling are proposed and implemented. The parametric form of the assumed missing data mechanism itself is not `testable' from the data, and thus the non-ignorable modelling considered here can be viewed as a sensitivity analysis concerning a more complicated model. Therefore, although a model may have `passed' the tests for a certain missing data mechanism, this does not mean that we have captured, even approximately, the correct missing data mechanism. Hence, model checking for the missing data mechanism and sensitivity analyses play an important role in this problem and are discussed in detail. Several simulations are given to demonstrate the methodology. In addition, a real data set from a melanoma cancer clinical trial is presented to illustrate the methods proposed.  相似文献

Competing risks data are routinely encountered in various medical applications due to the fact that patients may die from different causes. Recently, several models have been proposed for fitting such survival data. In this paper, we develop a fully specified subdistribution model for survival data in the presence of competing risks via a subdistribution model for the primary cause of death and conditional distributions for other causes of death. Various properties of this fully specified subdistribution model have been examined. An efficient Gibbs sampling algorithm via latent variables is developed to carry out posterior computations. Deviance information criterion (DIC) and logarithm of the pseudomarginal likelihood (LPML) are used for model comparison. An extensive simulation study is carried out to examine the performance of DIC and LPML in comparing the cause-specific hazards model, the mixture model, and the fully specified subdistribution model. The proposed methodology is applied to analyze a real dataset from a prostate cancer study in detail.  相似文献

Quantile regression (QR) is becoming increasingly popular due to its relevance in many scientific investigations. There is a great amount of work about linear and nonlinear QR models. Specifically, nonparametric estimation of the conditional quantiles received particular attention, due to its model flexibility. However, nonparametric QR techniques are limited in the number of covariates. Dimension reduction offers a solution to this problem by considering low-dimensional smoothing without specifying any parametric or nonparametric regression relation. The existing dimension reduction techniques focus on the entire conditional distribution. We, on the other hand, turn our attention to dimension reduction techniques for conditional quantiles and introduce a new method for reducing the dimension of the predictor $$\mathbf {X}$$. The novelty of this paper is threefold. We start by considering a single index quantile regression model, which assumes that the conditional quantile depends on $$\mathbf {X}$$ through a single linear combination of the predictors, then extend to a multi-index quantile regression model, and finally, generalize the proposed methodology to any statistical functional of the conditional distribution. The performance of the methodology is demonstrated through simulation examples and real data applications. Our results suggest that this method has a good finite sample performance and often outperforms the existing methods.  相似文献

In this paper, we construct a non parametric estimator of conditional distribution function by the double-kernel local linear approach for left-truncated data, from which we derive the weighted double-kernel local linear estimator of conditional quantile. The asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators is also established. Finite-sample performance of the estimator is investigated via simulation.  相似文献

Over the last 20 or more years a lot of clinical applications and methodological development in the area of joint models of longitudinal and time-to-event outcomes have come up. In these studies, patients are followed until an event, such as death, occurs. In most of the work, using subject-specific random-effects as frailty, the dependency of these two processes has been established. In this article, we propose a new joint model that consists of a linear mixed-effects model for longitudinal data and an accelerated failure time model for the time-to-event data. These two sub-models are linked via a latent random process. This model will capture the dependency of the time-to-event on the longitudinal measurements more directly. Using standard priors, a Bayesian method has been developed for estimation. All computations are implemented using OpenBUGS. Our proposed method is evaluated by a simulation study, which compares the conditional model with a joint model with local independence by way of calibration. Data on Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) syndrome and a set of data in AIDS patients have been analysed.  相似文献

The linear functional relationship is exhibited as an approximate conditional normal model. The estimation of the slope of the linear functional relationship is approximately equivalent to the estimation of the common mean of a set of normal distributions having the same mean and different variances in known ratios. These known ratios are approximate ancillary statistics that specify the observed precisions of the samples from the different normal distributions. The analysis conditions on these observed precisions. This conditional method is compared with several standard unconditional methods. Several numerical examples are given.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a quantile survival model to analyze censored data. This approach provides a very effective way to construct a proper model for the survival time conditional on some covariates. Once a quantile survival model for the censored data is established, the survival density, survival or hazard functions of the survival time can be obtained easily. For illustration purposes, we focus on a model that is based on the generalized lambda distribution (GLD). The GLD and many other quantile function models are defined only through their quantile functions, no closed‐form expressions are available for other equivalent functions. We also develop a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for parameter estimation. Extensive simulation studies have been conducted. Both simulation study and application results show that the proposed quantile survival models can be very useful in practice.  相似文献

In this paper we consider generalized linear models for binary data subject to inequality constraints on the regression coefficients, and propose a simple and efficient Bayesian method for parameter estimation and model selection by using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). In implementing MCMC, we introduce appropriate latent variables and use a simple approximation of a link function, to resolve computational difficulties and obtain convenient forms for full conditional posterior densities of elements of parameters. Bayes factors are computed via the Savage-Dickey density ratios and the method of Oh (Comput. Stat. Data Anal. 29:411–427, 1999), for which posterior samples from the full model with no degenerate parameter and the full conditional posterior densities of elements are needed. Since it uses one set of posterior samples from the full model for any model in consideration, it performs simultaneous comparison of all possible models and is very efficient compared with other model selection methods which require one to fit all candidate models. A simulation study shows that significant improvements can be made by taking the constraints into account. Real data on purchase intention of a product subject to order constraints is analyzed by using the proposed method. The analysis results show that there exist some price changes which significantly affect the consumer behavior. The results also show the importance of simultaneous comparison of models rather than separate pairwise comparisons of models since the latter may yield misleading results from ignoring possible correlations between parameters.  相似文献

Clustered survival data arise often in clinical trial design, where the correlated subunits from the same cluster are randomized to different treatment groups. Under such design, we consider the problem of constructing confidence interval for the difference of two median survival time given the covariates. We use Cox gamma frailty model to account for the within-cluster correlation. Based on the conditional confidence intervals, we can identify the possible range of covariates over which the two groups would provide different median survival times. The associated coverage probability and the expected length of the proposed interval are investigated via a simulation study. The implementation of the confidence intervals is illustrated using a real data set.  相似文献

This paper studies the distribution of a linear predictor that is constructed after a data-driven model selection step in a linear regression model. The finite-sample cumulative distribution function (cdf) of the linear predictor is derived and a detailed analysis of the effects of the model selection step is given. Moreover, a simple approximation to the (complicated) finite-sample cdf is proposed. This approximation facilitates the study of the large-sample limit behavior of the linear predictor and its cdf, in the fixed-parameter case and under local alternatives. The focus of this paper is on the conditional distribution of a linear predictor, conditional on the event that a fixed (possibly incorrect) model has been selected. The unconditional distribution of a linear predictor is studied in the companion paper Leeb (The distribution of a linear predictor after model selection: unconditional finite-sample distributions and asymptotic approximations, Technical Report, Department of Statistics, University of Vienna, 2002).  相似文献

Current methods of testing the equality of conditional correlations of bivariate data on a third variable of interest (covariate) are limited due to discretizing of the covariate when it is continuous. In this study, we propose a linear model approach for estimation and hypothesis testing of the Pearson correlation coefficient, where the correlation itself can be modeled as a function of continuous covariates. The restricted maximum likelihood method is applied for parameter estimation, and the corrected likelihood ratio test is performed for hypothesis testing. This approach allows for flexible and robust inference and prediction of the conditional correlations based on the linear model. Simulation studies show that the proposed method is statistically more powerful and more flexible in accommodating complex covariate patterns than the existing methods. In addition, we illustrate the approach by analyzing the correlation between the physical component summary and the mental component summary of the MOS SF-36 form across a fair number of covariates in the national survey data.  相似文献

The authors define a class of “partially linear single‐index” survival models that are more flexible than the classical proportional hazards regression models in their treatment of covariates. The latter enter the proposed model either via a parametric linear form or a nonparametric single‐index form. It is then possible to model both linear and functional effects of covariates on the logarithm of the hazard function and if necessary, to reduce the dimensionality of multiple covariates via the single‐index component. The partially linear hazards model and the single‐index hazards model are special cases of the proposed model. The authors develop a likelihood‐based inference to estimate the model components via an iterative algorithm. They establish an asymptotic distribution theory for the proposed estimators, examine their finite‐sample behaviour through simulation, and use a set of real data to illustrate their approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a conditional model for analyzing mixed bivariate continuous and ordinal longitudinal responses. We propose a quantile regression model with random effects for analyzing continuous responses. For this purpose, an Asymmetric Laplace Distribution (ALD) is allocated for continuous response given random effects. For modeling ordinal responses, a cumulative logit model is used, via specifying a latent variable model, with considering other random effects. Therefore, the intra-association between continuous and ordinal responses is taken into account using their own exclusive random effects. But, the inter-association between two mixed responses is taken into account by adding a continuous response term in the ordinal model. We use a Bayesian approach via Markov chain Monte Carlo method for analyzing the proposed conditional model and to estimate unknown parameters, a Gibbs sampler algorithm is used. Moreover, we illustrate an application of the proposed model using a part of the British Household Panel Survey data set. The results of data analysis show that gender, age, marital status, educational level and the amount of money spent on leisure have significant effects on annual income. Also, the associated parameter is significant in using the best fitting proposed conditional model, thus it should be employed rather than analyzing separate models.  相似文献
