In this article, we propose an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart for the shape parameter β of Weibull processes. The chart is based on a moving range when a single measurement is taken per sampling period. We consider both one-sided (lower-sided and upper-sided) and two-sided control charts. We perform simulations to estimate control limits that achieve a specified average run length (ARL) when the process is in control. The control limits we derive are ARL unbiased in that they result in ARL that is shorter than the stable-process ARL when β has shifted. We also perform simulations to determine Phase I sample size requirements if control limits are based on an estimate of β. We compare the ARL performance of the proposed chart to that of the moving range chart proposed in the literature.  相似文献

Residual control charts are frequently used for monitoring autocorrelated processes. In the design of a residual control chart, values of the true process parameters are often estimated from a reference sample of in-control observations by using least squares (LS) estimators. We propose a robust control chart for autocorrelated data by using Modified Maximum Likelihood (MML) estimators in constructing a residual control chart. Average run length (ARL) is simulated for the proposed chart when the underlying process is AR(1). The results show the superiority of the new chart under several situations. Moreover, the chart is robust to plausible deviations from assumed distribution of errors.  相似文献

We propose a new nonparametric multivariate control chart that integrates a novelty score. The proposed control chart uses as its monitoring statistic a hybrid novelty score, calculated based on the distance to local observations as well as on the distance to the convex hull constructed by its neighbors. The control limits of the proposed control chart were established based on a bootstrap method. A rigorous simulation study was conducted to examine the properties of the proposed control chart under various scenarios and compare it with existing multivariate control charts in terms of average run length (ARL) performance. The simulation results showed that the proposed control chart outperformed both the parametric and nonparametric Hotelling's T 2 control charts, especially in nonnormal situations. Moreover, experimental results with real semiconductor data demonstrated the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed control chart. To increase the capability to detect small mean shift, we propose an exponentially weighted hybrid novelty score control chart. Simulation results indicated that exponentially weighted hybrid score charts outperformed the hybrid novelty score based control charts.  相似文献

In this article we perform a careful investigation of the double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) chart performance for monitoring the process mean. We compare the performance of this chart to the usual EWMA control chart based on zero-state and worst-case average run length (ARL) measures. We also evaluate the signal resistance measure of the DEWMA chart and compare its maximum value to that of the EWMA chart. We show that the superiority of the DEWMA chart over the simpler standard EWMA chart based on zero-state ARL performance disappears when the smoothing constant of the EWMA chart is chosen to give weights to past observations closer to those given by the DEWMA chart. Moreover, our results show that the standard EWMA chart has much better performance than the DEWMA chart in terms of worst-case ARL values, especially when small smoothing constants are used. We also demonstrate using an illustrative example that the DEWMA chart can build up an exceedingly large amount of inertia when used to monitor the process mean.  相似文献

Quality control chart interpretation is usually based on the assumption that successive observations are independent over time. In this article we show the effect of autocorrelation on the retrospective Shewhart chart for individuals, often referred to as the X-chart, with the control limits based on moving ranges. It is shown that the presence of positive first lag autocorrelation results in an increased number of false alarms from the control chart. Negative first lag autocorrelation can result in unnecessarily wide control limits such that significant shifts in the process mean may go undetected. We use first-order autoregressive and first-order moving average models in our simulation of small samples of autocorrelated data.  相似文献

A synthetic mean square error (MSE) control chart is presented in this study for monitoring the changes in the mean and standard deviation of a normally distributed process. The synthetic MSE control chart is a combination of the standard MSE control chart and the conforming run length (CRL) control chart. From the numerical comparisons, the synthetic MSE control chart is always more efficient than the standard MSE control chart in detecting shifts in the process mean and standard deviation. The synthetic MSE chart also performs better than the exponentially weighted moving average-semicircle (EWMA-SC) chart, except for some cases where the process mean shifts are small.  相似文献

The paper establishes the analytical grounds of the uniform superiority of a variable sampling interval (VSI) Shewhart control chart over the conventional fixed sampling interval (FSI) control chart, with respect to the zero-time performance, for a wide class of process distributions. We provide a sufficient condition on the distribution of a control chart statistic, and propose a criterion to determine the control limits and the regions in the in-control area of the VSI chart, corresponding to the different sampling intervals used by it. The condition and the criterion together ensure the uniform zero-time superiority of the VSI chart over the matched FSI chart, in detecting a process shift of any magnitude. It is shown that normal, Student's t and Laplace distributions satisfy the sufficient condition. In addition, chi-square, F and beta distributions satisfy it, provided that these are not extremely skewed. Further, it is illustrated that the superiority of the VSI feature is not trivial and cannot be assured if the sufficient condition is not satisfied or the control limits and the regions are not determined according to the proposed criterion. An application of the result to confirm the superiority of the VSI feature is demonstrated for the control chart for individual observations used to monitor a milk-pouch filling process.  相似文献

This study extends the generally weighted moving average (GWMA) control chart by imitating the double exponentially weighted moving average (DEWMA) technique. The proposed chart is called the double generally weighted moving average (DGWMA) control chart. Simulation is employed to evaluate the average run length characteristics of the GWMA, DEWMA and DGWMA control charts. An extensive comparison of these control charts reveals that the DGWMA control chart with time-varying control limits is more sensitive than the GWMA and the DEWMA control charts for detecting medium shifts in the mean of a process when the shifts are between 0.5 and 1.5 standard deviations. Additionally, the GWMA control chart performs better when the mean shifts are below the 0.5 standard deviation, and the DEWMA control performs better when the mean shifts are above the 1.5 standard deviation. The design of the DGWMA control chart is also discussed.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss the behavior of the Shewhart residual chart and the modified Shewhart chart if the parameters of the underlying process are unknown and thus have to be estimated. We focus on the estimation of the variance. For AR models we also consider the estimation of the AR coefficients. The average run length (ARL) of the control chart with estimated parameters is compared with the ARL of the scheme for known parameters and with the ARL for independent variables. Additionally, we give recommendations on the choice of the estimators in the context of Shewhart control schemes.  相似文献

Control charts have been popularly used as a user-friendly yet technically sophisticated tool to monitor whether a process is in statistical control or not. These charts are basically constructed under the normality assumption. But in many practical situations in real life this normality assumption may be violated. One such non-normal situation is to monitor the process variability from a skewed parent distribution where we propose the use of a Maxwell control chart. We introduce a pivotal quantity for the scale parameter of the Maxwell distribution which follows a gamma distribution. Probability limits and L-sigma limits are studied along with performance measure based on average run length and power curve. To avoid the complexity of future calculations for practitioners, factors for constructing control chart for monitoring the Maxwell parameter are given for different sample sizes and for different false alarm rate. We also provide simulated data to illustrate the Maxwell control chart. Finally, a real life example has been given to show the importance of such a control chart.  相似文献

In modern quality control, it is becoming common to simultaneously monitor several quality characteristics of a process with rapid evolving data-acquisition technology. When the multivariate process distribution is unknown and only a set of in-control data is available, the bootstrap technique can be used to adjust the constant limit of the multivariate cumulative sum (MCUSUM) control chart. To further improve the performance of the control chart, we extend the constant control limit to a sequence of dynamic control limits which are determined by the conditional distribution of the charting statistics given the sprint length. Simulation results show that the novel control chart with dynamic control limits offers a better ARL performance, compared with the traditional MCUSUM control chart. Despite it, the proposed control chart is considerably computer-intensive. This leads to the development of a more flexible control chart which uses a continuous function of the sprint length as the control limit sequences. More importantly, the control chart is easy to implement and can reduce the computational time significantly. A white wine data illustrates that the novel control chart performs quite well in applications.  相似文献

In this article, we study the capability of the standard control chart for individual observations with fixed control limits to identify special causes reflected as isolated extreme points in the presence of autocorrelation. We consider both the application of standard Shewhart limits and moving-range limits and derive the risks of false positive and false negative when the control chart observations follow a general ARMA(p,q) process.  相似文献

In the statistical process control literature, there exists several improved quality control charts based on cost-effective sampling schemes, including the ranked set sampling (RSS) and median RSS (MRSS). A generalized cost-effective RSS scheme has been recently introduced for efficiently estimating the population mean, namely varied L RSS (VLRSS). In this article, we propose a new exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart for monitoring the process mean using VLRSS, named the EWMA-VLRSS chart, under both perfect and imperfect rankings. The EWMA-VLRSS chart encompasses the existing EWMA charts based on RSS and MRSS (named the EWMA-RSS and EWMA-MRSS charts). We use extensive Monte Carlo simulations to compute the run length characteristics of the EWMA-VLRSS chart. The proposed chart is then compared with the existing EWMA charts. It is found that, with either perfect or imperfect rankings, the EWMA-VLRSS chart is more sensitive than the EWMA-RSS and EWMA-MRSS charts in detecting small to large shifts in the process mean. A real dataset is also used to explain the working of the EWMA-VLRSS chart.  相似文献

In this article, we will present a control chart using normal transformation and generally weighted moving average (GWMA) statistic when the quality characteristic follows the exponential distribution. We will develop the necessary measures to monitor the mean of the process using GWMA statistic and analyze the performance using simulation. The average run lengths for monitoring process average are given for various process shifts. The performance of the proposed chart is examined and compared with the existing control chart. The proposed control chart is effective for the monitoring of small shifts in the mean process. The application of the proposed chart is illustrated with the help of simulated data.  相似文献

The np control chart is used widely in Statistical Process Control (SPC) for attributes. It is difficult to design an np chart that simultaneously satisfies a requirement on false alarm rate and has high detection effectiveness. This is mainly because one is often unable to make the in-control Average Run Length ARL0 of an np chart close to a specified or desired value. This article proposes a new np control chart which is able to overcome the problems suffered by the conventional np chart. It is called the Double Inspection (DI) np chart, because it uses a double inspection scheme to decide the process status (in control or out of control). The first inspection decides the process status according to the number of non-conforming units found in a sample; and the second inspection makes a decision based on the location of a particular non-conforming unit in the sample. The double inspection scheme makes the in-control ARL0 very close to a specified value and the out-of-control Average Run Length ARL1 quite small. As a result, the requirement on a false alarm rate is satisfied and the detection effectiveness also achieves a high level. Moreover, the DI np chart retains the operational simplicity of the np chart to a large degree and achieves the performance improvement without requiring extra inspection (testing whether a unit is conforming or not).  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new control chart called the maximum chi-square generally weighted moving average (MCSGWMA) control chart. This control chart can effectively combine two generally weighted moving average (GWMA) control charts into a single one and can detect both increases as well as decreases in the process mean and/or variability simultaneously. The average run length (ARL) characteristics of the MCSGWMA and maximum exponentially weighted moving average (MaxEWMA) charts are evaluated by performing computer simulations. The comparison of the ARLs shows that the MCSGWMA control chart performs better than the MaxEWMA control chart.  相似文献

Recently, three-level control chart has been developed for monitoring situations in which an appropriate quality measure uses three discrete levels to classify a product characteristic. In this paper, the variable parameters control charts for multinomial data are developed with a three-level classification scheme. We compare it with various adaptive charts to show that this modified scheme can improve the performance. In order to evaluate and compare the performance of this scheme, adjusted average time to signal is used as the performance measure. Results indicate that the proposed chart has improved performance and is relatively sensitive to small shifts.  相似文献

This article presents a synthetic control chart for detection of shifts in the process median. The synthetic chart is a combination of sign chart and conforming run-length chart. The performance evaluation of the proposed chart indicates that the synthetic chart has a higher power of detecting shifts in process median than the Shewhart charts based on sign statistic as well as the classical Shewhart X-bar chart for various symmetric distributions. The improvement is significant for shifts of moderate to large shifts in the median. The robustness studies of the proposed synthetic control chart against outliers indicate that the proposed synthetic control chart is robust against contamination by outliers.  相似文献

Over the last few decades, multiattribute control charts have been widely recommended in practice. They outperform the simultaneous uniattribute charts for monitoring multiattribute processes in many applications. Jolayemi [A statistical model for the design of multiattribute control charts. Indian J Stat. 1999;61:351–365] developed a statistical model for the design of a multiattribute np (Mnp) chart. Based on this model, a multiattribute synthetic (MSyn) chart is proposed in this article. Furthermore, the main features of the MSyn chart and Mnp chart are integrated to build a multiattribute Syn-np (MSyn-np) chart. The results of the comparative studies indicate that the new MSyn-np chart significantly outperforms the Mnp chart and MSyn chart by 83% and 27%, respectively, in terms of the average number of defectives over a wide range of process shifts under different circumstances.  相似文献
