For the balanced random effects models, when the variance components are correlated either naturally or through common prior structures, by assuming a mixed prior distribution for the variance components, we propose some new Bayesian estimators. To contrast and compare the new estimators with the minimum variance unbiased (MVUE) and restricted maximum likelihood estimators (RMLE), some simulation studies are also carried out. It turns out that the proposed estimators have smaller mean squared errors than the MVUE and RMLE.  相似文献

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in regression models based on zero-inflated distributions. These models are commonly encountered in many disciplines, such as medicine, public health, and environmental sciences, among others. The zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) model has been typically considered for these types of problems. However, the ZIP model can fail if the non-zero counts are overdispersed in relation to the Poisson distribution, hence the zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) model may be more appropriate. In this paper, we present a Bayesian approach for fitting the ZINB regression model. This model considers that an observed zero may come from a point mass distribution at zero or from the negative binomial model. The likelihood function is utilized to compute not only some Bayesian model selection measures, but also to develop Bayesian case-deletion influence diagnostics based on q-divergence measures. The approach can be easily implemented using standard Bayesian software, such as WinBUGS. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated with a simulation study. Further, a real data set is analyzed, where we show that ZINB regression models seems to fit the data better than the Poisson counterpart.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Longitudinal studies often entail non-Gaussian primary responses. When dropout occurs, potential non-ignorability of the missingness process may occur, and a joint model for the primary response and a time-to-event may represent an appealing tool to account for dependence between the two processes. As an extension to the GLMJM, recently proposed, and based on Gaussian latent effects, we assume that the random effects follow a smooth, P-spline based density. To estimate model parameters, we adopt a two-step conditional Newton–Raphson algorithm. Since the maximization of the penalized log-likelihood requires numerical integration over the random effect, which is often cumbersome, we opt for a pseudo-adaptive Gaussian quadrature rule to approximate the model likelihood. We discuss the proposed model by analyzing an original dataset on dilated cardiomyopathies and through a simulation study.  相似文献

In this study, we deal with the problem of overdispersion beyond extra zeros for a collection of counts that can be correlated. Poisson, negative binomial, zero-inflated Poisson and zero-inflated negative binomial distributions have been considered. First, we propose a multivariate count model in which all counts follow the same distribution and are correlated. Then we extend this model in a sense that correlated counts may follow different distributions. To accommodate correlation among counts, we have considered correlated random effects for each individual in the mean structure, thus inducing dependency among common observations to an individual. The method is applied to real data to investigate variation in food resources use in a species of marsupial in a locality of the Brazilian Cerrado biome.  相似文献

Hall (2000) has described zero‐inflated Poisson and binomial regression models that include random effects to account for excess zeros and additional sources of heterogeneity in the data. The authors of the present paper propose a general score test for the null hypothesis that variance components associated with these random effects are zero. For a zero‐inflated Poisson model with random intercept, the new test reduces to an alternative to the overdispersion test of Ridout, Demério & Hinde (2001). The authors also examine their general test in the special case of the zero‐inflated binomial model with random intercept and propose an overdispersion test in that context which is based on a beta‐binomial alternative.  相似文献

We propose a consistent and locally efficient method of estimating the model parameters of a logistic mixed effect model with random slopes. Our approach relaxes two typical assumptions: the random effects being normally distributed, and the covariates and random effects being independent of each other. Adhering to these assumptions is particularly difficult in health studies where, in many cases, we have limited resources to design experiments and gather data in long‐term studies, while new findings from other fields might emerge, suggesting the violation of such assumptions. So it is crucial to have an estimator that is robust to such violations; then we could make better use of current data harvested using various valuable resources. Our method generalizes the framework presented in Garcia & Ma (2016) which also deals with a logistic mixed effect model but only considers a random intercept. A simulation study reveals that our proposed estimator remains consistent even when the independence and normality assumptions are violated. This contrasts favourably with the traditional maximum likelihood estimator which is likely to be inconsistent when there is dependence between the covariates and random effects. Application of this work to a study of Huntington's disease reveals that disease diagnosis can be enhanced using assessments of cognitive performance. Negative binomial group distribution was proposed in the literature which was motivated by inverse sampling when considering group inspection: products are inspected group by group, and the number of non-conforming items of a group is recorded only until the inspection of the whole group is finished. The non-conforming probability p of the population is thus the parameter of interest. In this paper, the confidence interval construction for this parameter is investigated. The common normal approximation and exact method are applied. To overcome the drawbacks of these commonly used methods, a composite method that is based on the confidence intervals of the negative binomial distribution is proposed, which benefits from the relationship between negative binomial distribution and negative binomial group distribution. Simulation studies are carried out to examine the performances of our methods. A real data example is also presented to illustrate the application of our method.  相似文献

We propose a new bivariate negative binomial model with constant correlation structure, which was derived from a contagious bivariate distribution of two independent Poisson mass functions, by mixing the proposed bivariate gamma type density with constantly correlated covariance structure (Iwasaki & Tsubaki, 2005), which satisfies the integrability condition of McCullagh & Nelder (1989, p. 334). The proposed bivariate gamma type density comes from a natural exponential family. Joe (1997) points out the necessity of a multivariate gamma distribution to derive a multivariate distribution with negative binomial margins, and the luck of a convenient form of multivariate gamma distribution to get a model with greater flexibility in a dependent structure with indices of dispersion. In this paper we first derive a new bivariate negative binomial distribution as well as the first two cumulants, and, secondly, formulate bivariate generalized linear models with a constantly correlated negative binomial covariance structure in addition to the moment estimator of the components of the matrix. We finally fit the bivariate negative binomial models to two correlated environmental data sets.  相似文献

The negative binomial (NB)-mixed regression in many situations is more appropriate for analysing the correlated and over-dispersed count data. In this paper, a score test for assessing extra zeros against the NB-mixed regression in the correlated count data with excess zeros is developed. The sampling distribution and power of the score test statistic is evaluated using a simulation study. The results show that under a wide range of conditions, the score statistic performs satisfactorily. Finally, the use of the score test is illustrated on DMFT index data of children aged 12 years old.  相似文献

This paper presents a procedure to estimate the variance components and fixed effects of mixed linear models. The mode of the joint posterior distribution of all the parameters is obtained by an iterative technique.

The LM test is modified to test any value of the ratio of two variance components in a mixed effects linear model with two variance components. The test is exact, so it can be used to construct exact confidence intervals on this ratio.Exact Neyman-Pearson (NP) tests on the variance ratio are described.Their powers provide attainable upper bounds on powers of tests on the variance ratio.Efficiencies of LM tests, which include ANOVA tests, and NP tests are compared for unbalanced, random, one-way ANOVA models.Confidence intervals corresponding to LM tests and NP tests are described.  相似文献

When a count data set has excessive zero counts, nonzero counts are overdispersed, and the effect of a continuous covariate might be nonlinear, for analysis a semiparametric zero-inflated negative binomial (ZINB) regression model is proposed. The unspecified smooth functional form for the continuous covariate effect is approximated by a cubic spline. The semiparametric ZINB regression model is fitted by maximizing the likelihood function. The likelihood ratio procedure is used to evaluate the adequacy of a postulated parametric functional form for the continuous covariate effect. An extensive simulation study is conducted to assess the finite-sample performance of the proposed test. The practicality of the proposed methodology is demonstrated with data of a motorcycle survey of traffic regulations conducted in 2007 in Taiwan by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication.  相似文献

Recent advances in computing make it practical to use complex hierarchical models. However, the complexity makes it difficult to see how features of the data determine the fitted model. This paper describes an approach to diagnostics for hierarchical models, specifically linear hierarchical models with additive normal or t -errors. The key is to express hierarchical models in the form of ordinary linear models by adding artificial `cases' to the data set corresponding to the higher levels of the hierarchy. The error term of this linear model is not homoscedastic, but its covariance structure is much simpler than that usually used in variance component or random effects models. The re-expression has several advantages. First, it is extremely general, covering dynamic linear models, random effect and mixed effect models, and pairwise difference models, among others. Second, it makes more explicit the geometry of hierarchical models, by analogy with the geometry of linear models. Third, the analogy with linear models provides a rich source of ideas for diagnostics for all the parts of hierarchical models. This paper gives diagnostics to examine candidate added variables, transformations, collinearity, case influence and residuals.  相似文献

Statistical agencies are interested to report precise estimates of linear parameters from small areas. This goal can be achieved by using model-based inference. In this sense, random regression coefficient models provide a flexible way of modelling the relationship between the target and the auxiliary variables. Because of this, empirical best linear unbiased predictor (EBLUP) estimates based on these models are introduced. A closed-formula procedure to estimate the mean-squared error of the EBLUP estimators is also given and empirically studied. Results of several simulation studies are reported as well as an application to the estimation of household normalized net annual incomes in the Spanish Living Conditions Survey.  相似文献

In this paper a bivariate beta regression model with joint modeling of the mean and dispersion parameters is proposed, defining the bivariate beta distribution from Farlie–Gumbel–Morgenstern (FGM) copulas. This model, that can be generalized using other copulas, is a good alternative to analyze non-independent pairs of proportions and can be fitted applying standard Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Bayesian random effects models may be fitted using Gibbs sampling, but the Gibbs sampler can be slow mixing due to what might be regarded as lack of model identifiability. This slow mixing substantially increases the number of iterations required during Gibbs sampling. We present an analysis of data on immunity after Rubella vaccinations which results in a slow-mixing Gibbs sampler. We show that this problem of slow mixing can be resolved by transforming the random effects and then, if desired, expressing their joint prior distribution as a sequence of univariate conditional distributions. The resulting analysis shows that the decline in antibodies after Rubella vaccination is relatively shallow compared to the decline in antibodies which has been shown after Hepatitis B vaccination.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose the use of the Data Cloning (DC) approach to estimate parameter-driven zero-inflated Poisson and Negative Binomial models for time series of counts. The data cloning algorithm obtains the familiar maximum likelihood estimators and their standard errors via a fully Bayesian estimation. This provides some computational ease as well as inferential tools such as confidence intervals and diagnostic methods which, otherwise, are not readily available for parameter-driven models. To illustrate the performance of the proposed method, we use Monte Carlo Simulations and real data on asthma-related emergency department visits in the Canadian province of Ontario.  相似文献

Multi-stage time evolving models are common statistical models for biological systems, especially insect populations. In stage-duration distribution models, parameter estimation for the models use the Laplace transform method. This method involves assumptions such as known constant shapes, known constant rates or the same overall hazard rate for all stages. These assumptions are strong and restrictive. The main aim of this paper is to weaken these assumptions by using a Bayesian approach. In particular, a Metropolis-Hastings algorithm based on deterministic transformations is used to estimate parameters. We will use two models, one which has no hazard rates, and the other has stage-wise constant hazard rates. These methods are validated in simulation studies followed by a case study of cattle parasites. The results show that the proposed methods are able to estimate the parameters comparably well, as opposed to using the Laplace transform methods.  相似文献

The selection of suitable terms in random coefficient regression models is a challenging problem to practitioners. Although many techniques, ranging from those with a theoretical flavour to those with an exploratory spirit, have been proposed for such purposes, no particular one may be considered as a paradigm. In fact, many authors advocate that they should be used in a complementary way. We consider exploratory methods based on fitting standard regression models to the individual response profiles or to the rows of the sample within-units covariance matrix (for balanced data) that may serve as additional tools in the process of selecting an appropriate model. We evaluate the performance of the proposal via a simulation study and consider applications to two examples in the field of Biostatistics.  相似文献
