We aimed to study the excess health-care expenditures for persons with a known positive isolate of Streptococcus pneumoniae. The data set was compiled by linking the database of the largest Belgian Sickness Fund with data obtained from laboratories reporting pneumococcal isolates. We analyzed the age-specific per-patient cumulative costs over time, using generalized estimating equations (GEEs). The mean structure was described by fractional polynomials. The quasi-likelihood under the independence model criterion was used to compare different correlation structures. We show for all age groups that the health-care costs incurred by diagnosed pneumococcal patients are significantly larger than those incurred by undiagnosed matched persons. This is not only the case at the time of diagnosis but also long before and after the time of diagnosis. These findings can be informative for the current debate on unrelated costs in health economic evaluation, and GEEs could be used to estimate these costs for other diseases. Finally, these results can be used to inform policy on the expected budget impact of preventing pneumococcal infections.  相似文献

We discuss in this paper the assessment of local influence in univariate elliptical linear regression models. This class includes all symmetric continuous distributions, such as normal, Student-t, Pearson VII, exponential power and logistic, among others. We derive the appropriate matrices for assessing the local influence on the parameter estimates and on predictions by considering as influence measures the likelihood displacement and a distance based on the Pearson residual. Two examples with real data are given for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper we present various diagnostic methods for a linear regression model under a logarithmic Birnbaum-Saunders distribution for the errors, which may be applied for accelerated life testing or to compare the median lives of several populations. Some influence methods, such as the local influence, total local influence of an individual and generalized leverage are derived, analysed and discussed. We also present a connection between the local influence and generalized leverage methods. A discussion of the computation of the likelihood displacement as well as the normal curvature in the local influence method are presented. Finally, an example with real data is given for illustration.  相似文献

INFLUENCE DIAGNOSTICS IN PROPER DISPERSION MODELS   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper discusses the application of influence diagnostic methods in univariate proper dispersion models. This class includes, in particular, continuous generalized linear models as well as other subclasses of continuous regression models. We emphasize the study of the local influence on the likelihood displacement and predictions from the models. Some of the diagnostics are illustrated by an example on directional data.  相似文献

The influence of observations on the parameter estimates for the simple structural errors-in-variables model with no equation error is investigated using the local influence method. Residuals themselves are not sufficient for detecting outliers. The likelihood displacement approach is useful for outlier detection especially when a masking phenomenon is present. An illustrative example is provided.  相似文献

The Wald statistic is known to vary under reparameterization. This raises the question: which parameterization should be chosen, in order to optimize power of the Wald statistic? We specifically consider k-sample tests of generalized linear models (GLMs) and generalized estimating equations (GEEs) in which the alternative hypothesis contains only two parameters. An example is presented in which such an alternative hypothesis is of interest. Amongst a general class of parameterizations, we find the parameterization that maximizes power via analysis of the non-centrality parameter, and show how the effect on power of reparameterization depends on sampling design and the differences in variance across samples. There is no single parameterization with optimal power across all alternatives. The Wald statistic commonly used under the canonical parameterization is optimal in some instances but it performs very poorly in others. We demonstrate results by example and by simulation, and describe their implications for likelihood ratio statistics and score statistics. We conclude that due to poor power properties, the routine use of score statistics and Wald statistics under the canonical parameterization for GEEs is a questionable practice.  相似文献

Clustered or correlated samples of categorical response data arise frequently in many fields of application. The method of generalized estimating equations (GEEs) introduced in Liang and Zeger [Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models, Biometrika 73 (1986), pp. 13–22] is often used to analyse this type of data. GEEs give consistent estimates of the regression parameters and their variance based upon the Pearson residuals. Park et al. [Alternative GEE estimation procedures for discrete longitudinal data, Comput. Stat. Data Anal. 28 (1998), pp. 243–256] considered a modification of the GEE approach using the Anscombe residual and the deviance residual. In this work, we propose to extend this idea to a family of generalized residuals. A wide simulation study is conducted for binary and Poisson correlated outcomes and also two numerical illustrations are presented.  相似文献

Most biomedical research is carried out using longitudinal studies. The method of generalized estimating equations (GEEs) introduced by Liang and Zeger [Longitudinal data analysis using generalized linear models, Biometrika 73 (1986), pp. 13–22] and Zeger and Liang [Longitudinal data analysis for discrete and continuous outcomes, Biometrics 42 (1986), pp. 121–130] has become a standard method for analyzing non-normal longitudinal data. Since then, a large variety of GEEs have been proposed. However, the model diagnostic problem has not been explored intensively. Oh et al. [Modeldiagnostic plots for repeated measures data using the generalized estimating equations approach, Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 53 (2008), pp. 222–232] proposed residual plots based on the quantile–quantile (Q–Q) plots of the χ2-distribution for repeated-measures data using the GEE methodology. They considered the Pearson, Anscombe and deviance residuals. In this work, we propose to extend this graphical diagnostic using a generalized residual. A simulation study is presented as well as two examples illustrating the proposed generalized Q–Q plots.  相似文献

The influence of observations on the parameter estimates for the simple structural errors-in-variables model with no equation error, under the Student-t distribution, is investigated using the local influence approach. The main conclusion is that the Student-t model with small degrees of freedom is able to incorporate possible outliers and influential observations in the data. The likelihood displacement approach is useful for outlier detection, especially when a masking phenomenon is present and the degrees of freedom parameter is large. The diagnostics are illustrated with two examples.  相似文献

We develop local influence diagnostics for a general binary regression model, and apply these methods to case-weight perturbations in four examples. In addition, we illustrate the correspondence between case-deletion diagnostics and local case-weight perturbation slopes and curvatures. We demonstrate that local influence diagnostics can provide a more computationally efficient means for obtaining analogous information to that yielded by case-deletion diagnostics, which can be thought of as global influence perturbations. We also assess the global consistency of patterns of local influence using these data examples.  相似文献

In this paper, we present various diagnostic methods for polyhazard models. Polyhazard models are a flexible family for fitting lifetime data. Their main advantage over the single hazard models, such as the Weibull and the log-logistic models, is to include a large amount of nonmonotone hazard shapes, as bathtub and multimodal curves. Some influence methods, such as the local influence and total local influence of an individual are derived, analyzed and discussed. A discussion of the computation of the likelihood displacement as well as the normal curvature in the local influence method are presented. Finally, an example with real data is given for illustration.  相似文献

For longitudinal data, the within-subject dependence structure and covariance parameters may be of practical and theoretical interests. The estimation of covariance parameters has received much attention and been studied mainly in the framework of generalized estimating equations (GEEs). The GEEs method, however, is sensitive to outliers. In this paper, an alternative set of robust generalized estimating equations for both the mean and covariance parameters are proposed in the partial linear model for longitudinal data. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators of regression parameters, non-parametric function and covariance parameters are obtained. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimators under different contaminations. The proposed method is illustrated with a real data analysis.  相似文献

We propose a new procedure for detecting a patch of outliers or influential observations for autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model using local influence analysis. It is shown that the dependency aspects of time series data gives rise to masking or smearing effects when the local influence analysis is performed using current perturbation schemes. We suggest a new perturbation scheme to take into account the dependent structure of time series data, and employ the stepwise local influence method to give a diagnostic procedure. We show that the new perturbation scheme can avoid the smearing effects, and the stepwise technique of local influence can successfully deal with masking effects. Various simulation studies are performed to show the efficiency of proposed methodology and a real example is used for illustrations.  相似文献

Correlated data are commonly analyzed using models constructed using population-averaged generalized estimating equations (GEEs). The specification of a population-averaged GEE model includes selection of a structure describing the correlation of repeated measures. Accurate specification of this structure can improve efficiency, whereas the finite-sample estimation of nuisance correlation parameters can inflate the variances of regression parameter estimates. Therefore, correlation structure selection criteria should penalize, or account for, correlation parameter estimation. In this article, we compare recently proposed penalties in terms of their impacts on correlation structure selection and regression parameter estimation, and give practical considerations for data analysts. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

This article aims to estimate parameters of spatial variability with Student's t-distribution by the EM algorithm and present the study of local influence by means of two methods known as likelihood displacement and Q-displacement of likelihood, both using Student's t-distribution with fixed degrees of freedom (ν). The results showed that both methods are effective in the identification of influential points.  相似文献

This paper examines local influence assessment in generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscesdasticity models with Gaussian and Student-t errors, where influence is examined via the likelihood displacement. The analysis of local influence is discussed under three perturbation schemes: data perturbation, innovative model perturbation and additive model perturbation. For each case, expressions for slope and curvature diagnostics are derived. Monte Carlo experiments are presented to determine the threshold values for locating influential observations. The empirical study of daily returns of the New York Stock Exchange composite index shows that local influence analysis is a useful technique for detecting influential observations; most of the observations detected as influential are associated with historical shocks in the market. Finally, based on this empirical study and the analysis of simulated data, some advice is given on how to use the discussed methodology.  相似文献

Summary.  In a large, prospective longitudinal study designed to monitor cardiac abnormalities in children born to women who are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, instead of a single outcome variable, there are multiple binary outcomes (e.g. abnormal heart rate, abnormal blood pressure and abnormal heart wall thickness) considered as joint measures of heart function over time. In the presence of missing responses at some time points, longitudinal marginal models for these multiple outcomes can be estimated by using generalized estimating equations (GEEs), and consistent estimates can be obtained under the assumption of a missingness completely at random mechanism. When the missing data mechanism is missingness at random, i.e. the probability of missing a particular outcome at a time point depends on observed values of that outcome and the remaining outcomes at other time points, we propose joint estimation of the marginal models by using a single modified GEE based on an EM-type algorithm. The method proposed is motivated by the longitudinal study of cardiac abnormalities in children who were born to women infected with the human immunodeficiency virus, and analyses of these data are presented to illustrate the application of the method. Further, in an asymptotic study of bias, we show that, under a missingness at random mechanism in which missingness depends on all observed outcome variables, our joint estimation via the modified GEE produces almost unbiased estimates, provided that the correlation model has been correctly specified, whereas estimates from standard GEEs can lead to substantial bias.  相似文献

In 1986, R. D. Cook proposed differential geometry to assess local influence of minor perturbations of statistical models. We construct a conformally invariant curvature, the conformal normal curvature, for the same purpose. This curvature provides a measure of local influence ranging from 0 to 1, with objective bench-marks to judge largeness. We study various approaches to using the conformal normal curvature and the relationships between these approaches.  相似文献

In this paper, a local influence approach is employed to assess adequacy of the growth curve model with an unstructured covariance, based on likelihood displacement. The Hessian matrix of the model is investigated in detail under an abstract perturbation scheme. For illustration, covariance-weighted perturbation is discussed and used to analyze two real-life biological data sets, which show that the criteria presented in this article are useful in practice.  相似文献
