We study here a general load-sharing parallel system in which the lifetimes of the components of the system are arbitrary continuous random variables. The system functions if at least one component in the system functions and the surviving unit shares the whole load. Some sufficient conditions are obtained for the usual stochastic order between two different load-sharing systems. We then consider the optimal allocation problem of one load standby in a series system with two independent components. Finally, the maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters for some specific systems is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider two models of two-unit repairable systems: cold standby system and warm standby system. We suppose that the lifetimes and repair times of the units are all independent exponentially distributed random variables. Using stochastic orders we compare the lifetimes of systems under different assumptions on the parameters of exponential distributions. We also consider a cold standby system where the lifetimes and repair times of its units are not necessarily exponentially distributed.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we discuss stochastic comparisons of series and parallel systems with independent heterogeneous lower-truncated Weibull components. When a system with possibly different shape and scale parameters and its matrix of parameters changes to another matrix in a certain mathematical sense, we study the hazard rate order of lifetimes of series systems and the usual stochastic order of lifetimes of parallel systems.  相似文献

Stochastic orders are very useful tools to compare the lifetimes of two systems. Optimum lifetime of a series (resp. parallel) system with general standby component(s) depends on the allocation strategy of standby component(s) into the system. Here, we discuss three different models of one or more standby components. In each model, we compare different series (resp. parallel) systems (which are formed through different allocation strategies of standby component(s)) with respect to the usual stochastic order and the stochastic precedence order. The results related to the cold as well as the hot standby models are obtained as particular cases of the results discussed in this article because the model considered here is a general one.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper studies stochastic comparisons between a population and subpopulations in both multiplicative and additive frailty models. The comparisons between a population and its baseline in stochastic ordering are conducted as a special case. We build equivalent characterizations of some common stochastic orders between a population and a subpopulation, in terms of the frailty of the subpopulation and the first two moments of frailty variable. Some examples and applications are discussed as well.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In a load-sharing system, the failure of a component affects the residual lifetime of the surviving components. We propose a model for the load-sharing phenomenon in k-out-of-m systems. The model is based on exponentiated conditional distributions of the order statistics formed by the failure times of the components. For an illustration, we consider two component parallel systems with the initial lifetimes of the components having Weibull and linear failure rate distributions. We analyze one data set to show that the proposed model may be a better fit than the model based on sequential order statistics.  相似文献

In a parallel structure load-sharing system, the failure rate of the operating components will usually increase, due to the additional loading induced by the other components' failure. Hence failure dependency exists among components. To quantify the failure dependency, a dependence function is introduced. Under the assumptions that the repair time distributions of components are arbitrary and life times are exponential distributions whose failure rates vary with the number of operating components, a new load-sharing parallel system with failure dependency is proposed. To model the stochastic behavior of the system, the Semi-Markov process induced by it is given. The Semi-Markov kernel associated with the process is also presented. The availability and the time to the first system failure are obtained by employing Markov renewal theory. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the results obtained in the paper. The impact of the failure dependence on the system is also considered.  相似文献

Consider two parallel systems with their independent components’ lifetimes following heterogeneous exponentiated generalized gamma distributions, where the heterogeneity is in both shape and scale parameters. We then obtain the usual stochastic (reversed hazard rate) order between the lifetimes of two systems by using the weak submajorization order between the vectors of shape parameters and the p-larger (weak supermajorization) order between the vectors of scale parameters, under some restrictions on the involved parameters. Further, by reducing the heterogeneity of parameters in each system, the usual stochastic (reversed hazard rate) order mentioned above is strengthened to the hazard rate (likelihood ratio) order. Finally, two characterization results concerning the comparisons of two parallel systems, one with independent heterogeneous generalized exponential components and another with independent homogeneous generalized exponential components, are derived. These characterization results enable us to find some lower and upper bounds for the hazard rate and reversed hazard rate functions of a parallel system consisting of independent heterogeneous generalized exponential components. The results established here generalize some of the known results in the literature, concerning the comparisons of parallel systems under generalized exponential and exponentiated Weibull models.  相似文献

Abstract

The transmuted-G model is a useful technique to construct some new distributions by adding a parameter. This paper considers stochastic comparisons in the transmuted-G family with different parameters and different baseline distributions in the sense of the usual stochastic, shifted stochastic, proportional stochastic and shifted proportional stochastic orders. Also, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for existence of the moments of the transmuted-G model and then we obtain some bounds for the survival and aging intensity functions of the transmuted-G model conditioned on its parameter and its baseline distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the effect of a cold standby component on the mean residual life (MRL) of a system. When the system fails, a cold standby component is immediately put in operation. We particularly focus on the coherent systems in which, after putting the standby component into operation, the failure of the system is due to the next component failure. For these systems, we define MRL functions and obtain their explicit expressions. Also some stochastic ordering results are provided. Such systems include k-out-of-n systems. Hence, our results extend some results in literature.  相似文献

The load-sharing model has been studied since the early 1940s to account for the stochastic dependence of components in a parallel system. It assumes that, as components fail one by one, the total workload applied to the system is shared by the remaining components and thus affects their performance. Such dependent systems have been studied in many engineering applications which include but are not limited to fiber composites, manufacturing, power plants, workload analysis of computing, software and hardware reliability, etc. Many statistical models have been proposed to analyze the impact of each redistribution of the workload; i.e., the changes on the hazard rate of each remaining component. However, they do not consider how long a surviving component has worked for prior to the redistribution. We name such load-sharing models as memoryless. To remedy this potential limitation, we propose a general framework for load-sharing models that account for the work history. Through simulation studies, we show that an inappropriate use of the memoryless assumption could lead to inaccurate inference on the impact of redistribution. Further, a real-data example of plasma display devices is analyzed to illustrate our methods.

This article deals with the topic of optimal allocation of two standby redundancies in a two-component series/parallel system. There are two original components C1 and C2 which can be used to construct a series/parallel system, and two spares R1 (same as C1) and R2 (different from both C1 and C2) at hand with them being standby redundancies so as to enhance the reliability level of the system. The goal for an engineer is to seek after the optimal allocation policy in this framework. It is shown that, for the series structure, the engineer should allocate R2 to C1 and R1 to C2 provided that C1 (or R1) performs either the best or worst among all the units; otherwise, the allocation policy should be reversed. For the parallel structure, the optimal allocation strategy is just opposed to that of series case. We also provide some numerical examples for illustrating the theoretical results.  相似文献

Abstract

The Dagum distribution has been extensively used to model income data, and its features have been appreciated in economics and financial studies. In this article, we discuss ordering properties of largest order statistics from independent and heterogeneous Dagum populations. We present some sufficient conditions for stochastic comparisons between largest order statistics in terms of the reversed hazard rate order, the usual stochastic order, the convex order, the likelihood ratio order and the dispersive order. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the results established here.  相似文献

Abstract

It is known that the redundancy at the component level is better than the system level for the case of active redundancy. However, few results are available for standby redundancy due to the complexity of convolution. This note stochastically compares allocations of standby redundancies in series systems with exponential components at the component level versus the system level in sense of the likelihood ratio ordering. The established results strengthen and extend some known ones in the literature.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we establish that the usual stochastic, hazard rate, reversed hazard rate, likelihood ratio, dispersive and star orders are all preserved for parallel systems under exponentiated models for lifetimes of components. We then use the multiple-outlier exponentiated gamma models to illustrate this result. Finally, we consider the dual family with exponentiated survival function and establish similar results for series systems. The results established here extend some well-known results for series and parallel systems arising from different exponentiated distributions such as generalized exponential and exponentiated Weibull, established previously in the literature.  相似文献

This article studies reliability for a Markov repairable two-item cold standby system with neglected failures. In the system, if a failed time of the system is too short (less than a given critical value) to cause the system to fail, then the failed time may be omitted from the downtime record, i.e., the failure effect could be neglected. In ion-channel modeling, this situation is called the time interval omission problem. The availability indices and the mean downtime are presented as two measures of reliability for this repairable system. Some numerical examples are shown to illustrate the results obtained in this article.  相似文献

Dynamic reliability models with conditional proportional hazards   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A dynamic approach to the stochastic modelling of reliability systems is further explored. This modelling approach is particularly appropriate for load-sharing, software reliability, and multivariate failure-time models, where component failure characteristics are affected by their degree of use, amount of load, or extent of stresses experienced. This approach incorporates the intuitive notion that when a set of components in a coherent system fail at a certain time, there is a jump from one structure function to another which governs the residual lifetimes of the remaining functioning components, and since the component lifetimes are intrinsically affected by the structure function which they constitute, then at such a failure time there should also be a jump in the stochastic structure of the lifetimes of the remaining components. For such dynamically-modelled systems, the stochastic characteristics of their jump times are studied. These properties of the jump times allow us to obtain the properties of the lifetime of the system. In particular, for a Markov dynamic model, specific expressions for the exact distribution functions of the jump times are obtained for a general coherent system, a parallel system, and a series-parallel system. We derive a new family of distribution functions which describes the distributions of the jump times for a dynamically-modelled system.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

An alternative approach is applied for reliability analysis of standby systems on the basis of matrix renewal function. In this regard, a single-server, two identical unit cold standby systems with an imperfect switch is considered as a three-state semi-Markov process. Several important reliability measures such as availability, mean time to failure, expected number of failures, etc., are obtained for general lifetime distributions. Also, the main results have been treated to the case of exponential lifetimes and explicit formulas obtained for this case in addition of some numerical illustrations. This approach can easily be extended to more general standby systems with different configurations.  相似文献

This study focuses on the classical and Bayesian analysis of a k-components load-sharing parallel system in which components have time-dependent failure rates. In the classical set up, the maximum likelihood estimates of the load-share parameters with their standard errors (SEs) are obtained. (1?γ) 100% simultaneous and two bootstrap confidence intervals for the parameters and system reliability and hazard functions have been constructed. Further, on recognizing the fact that life-testing experiments are very time consuming, the parameters involved in the failure time distribution of the system are expected to follow some random variations. Therefore, Bayes estimates along with their posterior SEs of the parameters and system reliability and hazard functions are obtained by assuming gamma and Jeffrey's priors of the unknown parameters. Markov chain Monte Carlo technique such as Gibbs sampler has been used to obtain Bayes estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals.  相似文献

Abstract

For two components and one standby redundancy, we develop a characterization on the hazard rate order and the reversed hazard rate order of the redundant system lifetime in the context of mutually independent components lifetimes. Also, the likelihood ratio order is derived on the lifetime of the series system with two components lifetimes and two matched active redundancies lifetimes both following the proportional hazard model.  相似文献
