Based on a generalized cumulative damage approach with a stochastic process describing degradation, new accelerated life test models are presented in which both observed failures and degradation measures can be considered for parametric inference of system lifetime. Incorporating an accelerated test variable, we provide several new accelerated degradation models for failure based on the geometric Brownian motion or gamma process. It is shown that in most cases, our models for failure can be approximated closely by accelerated test versions of Birnbaum–Saunders and inverse Gaussian distributions. Estimation of model parameters and a model selection procedure are discussed, and two illustrative examples using real data for carbon-film resistors and fatigue crack size are presented.  相似文献

Recent research in cumulative damage models for strengths of systems has yielded various statistical distributions that incorporate a system size variable and follow a generalized Birnbaum-Saunders form. These models can be unified as a three-parameter Birnbaum-Saunders-type family of distributions, where the third parameter arises from the size variable through the cumulative damage approach. In this paper, the generalized three-parameter Birnbaum-Saunders distribution is characterized, and examples of cumulative damage models for system strength that fit this form are given. Also, estimation and asymptotic theory are developed for the generalized distribution, and illustrations are presented for experimental strength data for carbon composite materials.  相似文献

An important problem in reliability and survival analysis is that of modeling degradation together with any observed failures in a life test. Here, based on a continuous cumulative damage approach with a Gaussian process describing degradation, a general accelerated test model is presented in which failure times and degradation measures can be combined for inference about system lifetime. Some specific models when the drift of the Gaussian process depends on the acceleration variable are discussed in detail. Illustrative examples using simulated data as well as degradation data observed in carbon-film resistors are presented.  相似文献

Several models for studies related to tensile strength of materials are proposed in the literature where the size or length component has been taken to be an important factor for studying the specimens’ failure behaviour. An important model, developed on the basis of cumulative damage approach, is the three-parameter extension of the Birnbaum–Saunders fatigue model that incorporates size of the specimen as an additional variable. This model is a strong competitor of the commonly used Weibull model and stands better than the traditional models, which do not incorporate the size effect. The paper considers two such cumulative damage models, checks their compatibility with a real dataset, compares them with some of the recent toolkits, and finally recommends a model, which appears an appropriate one. Throughout the study is Bayesian based on Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

The basic idea of an interaction spline model was presented in Barry (1983). The general interaction spline models were proposed by Wahba (1986). The purely periodic spline model, a special case of the general interaction spline models, is considered in this paper. A stepwise approach using generalized cross validation (GCV) for fitting the model is proposed. Based on the nice orthogonality properties of the purely periodic functions, the stepwise approach is a promising method for the interaction spline model. The approach can also be generalized to the non-purely-periodic spline models. But this is no done here.  相似文献

The failure of a system under environmental stress often can be described by an accelerated test model which incorporates the environmental variable L. Here, the failure of such a system at environmental level L is modeled as the first passage of accumulated damage to a critical threshold value. Assuming a discrete additive damage model leads to a Birnbaum–Saunders-type distribution for the failure time which can be closely approximated by an inverse Gaussian-type model. However, if a continuous damage model based on a Gaussian process is assumed, a more general family of inverse Gaussian accelerated test models is obtained. Three sets of failure data are discussed to illustrate the usefulness of this general family.  相似文献

The problem of choosing optimal levels of the acceleration variable for accelerated testing is an important issue in reliability analysis. Most recommendations have focused on minimizing the variance of an estimator of a particular characteristic, such as a percentile, for a specific parametric model. In this paper, a general approach based on “locally penalized” D-optimality (LPD-optimality) is proposed, which simultaneously minimizes the variances of the model parameter estimators. Application of the method is illustrated for inverse Gaussian-accelerated test models fitted to carbon fiber tensile strength data, where the fiber length is the “acceleration variable”.  相似文献

This article investigates the large sample interval mapping method for genetic trait loci (GTL) in a finite non-linear regression mixture model. The general model includes most commonly used kernel functions, such as exponential family mixture, logistic regression mixture and generalized linear mixture models, as special cases. The populations derived from either the backcross or intercross design are considered. In particular, unlike all existing results in the literature in the finite mixture models, the large sample results presented in this paper do not require the boundness condition on the parametric space. Therefore, the large sample theory presented in this article possesses general applicability to the interval mapping method of GTL in genetic research. The limiting null distribution of the likelihood ratio test statistics can be utilized easily to determine the threshold values or p-values required in the interval mapping. The limiting distribution is proved to be free of the parameter values of null model and free of the choice of a kernel function. Extension to the multiple marker interval GTL detection is also discussed. Simulation study results show favorable performance of the asymptotic procedure when sample sizes are moderate.  相似文献

Generalized linear mixed models are a widely used tool for modeling longitudinal data. However, their use is typically restricted to few covariates, because the presence of many predictors yields unstable estimates. The presented approach to the fitting of generalized linear mixed models includes an L 1-penalty term that enforces variable selection and shrinkage simultaneously. A gradient ascent algorithm is proposed that allows to maximize the penalized log-likelihood yielding models with reduced complexity. In contrast to common procedures it can be used in high-dimensional settings where a large number of potentially influential explanatory variables is available. The method is investigated in simulation studies and illustrated by use of real data sets.  相似文献

Summary.  The paper is concerned with new methodology for statistical inference for final outcome infectious disease data using certain structured population stochastic epidemic models. A major obstacle to inference for such models is that the likelihood is both analytically and numerically intractable. The approach that is taken here is to impute missing information in the form of a random graph that describes the potential infectious contacts between individuals. This level of imputation overcomes various constraints of existing methodologies and yields more detailed information about the spread of disease. The methods are illustrated with both real and test data.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This note presents an approximation to multivariate regression models which is obtained from a first-order series expansion of the multivariate link function. The proposed approach yields a variable-addition approximation of regression models that enables a multivariate generalization of the well-known goodness-of-link specification test, available for univariate generalized linear models. Application of this general methodology is illustrated with models of multinomial discrete choice and multivariate fractional data, in which context it is shown to lead to well-established approximation and testing procedures.  相似文献

Engineering degradation tests allow industry to assess the potential life span of long-life products that do not fail readily under accelerated conditions in life tests. A general statistical model is presented here for performance degradation of an item of equipment. The degradation process in the model is taken to be a Wiener diffusion process with a time scale transformation. The model incorporates Arrhenius extrapolation for high stress testing. The lifetime of an item is defined as the time until performance deteriorates to a specified failure threshold. The model can be used to predict the lifetime of an item or the extent of degradation of an item at a specified future time. Inference methods for the model parameters, based on accelerated degradation test data, are presented. The model and inference methods are illustrated with a case application involving self-regulating heating cables. The paper also discusses a number of practical issues encountered in applications. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

A Bayesian least squares approach is taken here to estimate certain parameters in generalized linear models for dichotomous response data. The method requires that only first and second moments of the probability distribution representing prior information be specified* Examples are presented to illustrate situations having direct estimates as well as those which require approximate or iterative solutions.  相似文献

In partial step-stress accelerated life testing, models extrapolating data obtained under more severe conditions to infer the lifetime distribution under normal use conditions are needed. Bhattacharyya (Invited paper for 46th session of the ISI, 1987) proposed a tampered Brownian motion process model and later derived the probability distribution from a decay process perspective without linear assumption. In this paper, the model is described and the features of the failure time distribution are discussed. The maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters in the model and their asymptotic properties are presented. An application of models for step-stress accelerated life test to fields other than engineering is described and illustrated by applying the tampered Brownian motion process model to data taken from a clinical trial.  相似文献

A small sample simultaneous testing method is proposed for nested linear regression model. The methodology is based on the generalized likelihood ratio test which is the large sample simultaneous testing method for general nested models. The proposed test is also used for model identification.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to develop a Bayesian approach for log-Birnbaum–Saunders Student-t regression models under right-censored survival data. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are used to develop a Bayesian procedure for the considered model. In order to attenuate the influence of the outlying observations on the parameter estimates, we present in this paper Birnbaum–Saunders models in which a Student-t distribution is assumed to explain the cumulative damage. Also, some discussions on the model selection to compare the fitted models are given and case deletion influence diagnostics are developed for the joint posterior distribution based on the Kullback–Leibler divergence. The developed procedures are illustrated with a real data set.  相似文献

The semiparametric accelerated failure time (AFT) model is not as widely used as the Cox relative risk model due to computational difficulties. Recent developments in least squares estimation and induced smoothing estimating equations for censored data provide promising tools to make the AFT models more attractive in practice. For multivariate AFT models, we propose a generalized estimating equations (GEE) approach, extending the GEE to censored data. The consistency of the regression coefficient estimator is robust to misspecification of working covariance, and the efficiency is higher when the working covariance structure is closer to the truth. The marginal error distributions and regression coefficients are allowed to be unique for each margin or partially shared across margins as needed. The initial estimator is a rank-based estimator with Gehan’s weight, but obtained from an induced smoothing approach with computational ease. The resulting estimator is consistent and asymptotically normal, with variance estimated through a multiplier resampling method. In a large scale simulation study, our estimator was up to three times as efficient as the estimateor that ignores the within-cluster dependence, especially when the within-cluster dependence was strong. The methods were applied to the bivariate failure times data from a diabetic retinopathy study.  相似文献

Birnbaum-Saunders models have largely been applied in material fatigue studies and reliability analyses to relate the total time until failure with some type of cumulative damage. In many problems related to the medical field, such as chronic cardiac diseases and different types of cancer, a cumulative damage caused by several risk factors might cause some degradation that leads to a fatigue process. In these cases, BS models can be suitable for describing the propagation lifetime. However, since the cumulative damage is assumed to be normally distributed in the BS distribution, the parameter estimates from this model can be sensitive to outlying observations. In order to attenuate this influence, we present in this paper BS models, in which a Student-t distribution is assumed to explain the cumulative damage. In particular, we show that the maximum likelihood estimates of the Student-t log-BS models attribute smaller weights to outlying observations, which produce robust parameter estimates. Also, some inferential results are presented. In addition, based on local influence and deviance component and martingale-type residuals, a diagnostics analysis is derived. Finally, a motivating example from the medical field is analyzed using log-BS regression models. Since the parameter estimates appear to be very sensitive to outlying and influential observations, the Student-t log-BS regression model should attenuate such influences. The model checking methodologies developed in this paper are used to compare the fitted models.  相似文献

Many split-plot×split-block (SPSB) type experiments used in agriculture, biochemistry or plant protection are designed to study new crop plant cultivars or chemical agents. In these experiments it is usually very important to compare test treatments with the so-called control treatments. It happens yet that experimental material is limited and it does not allow using a complete (orthogonal) SPSB design. In the paper we propose a non-orthogonal SPSB design for consideration. Two cases of the design are presented here, i.e. when its incompleteness is connected with a crossed treatment structure only or with a nested treatment structure only. It is assumed the factors' levels connected with the incompleteness of the design are split into two groups: a set of test treatments and a set of control treatments. The method of constructions involves applying augmented block designs for some factors' levels. In a modelling data obtained from such experiments the structure of experimental material and appropriate randomization scheme of the different kinds of units before they enter the experiment are taken into account. With respect to the analysis of the obtained randomization model the approach typical to the multistratum experiments with orthogonal block structure is adapted. The proposed statistical analysis of linear model obtained includes estimation of parameters, testing general and particular hypotheses defined by the (basic) treatment contrasts with special reference to the notion of general balance.  相似文献

We propose some statistical tools for diagnosing the class of generalized Weibull linear regression models [A.A. Prudente and G.M. Cordeiro, Generalized Weibull linear models, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 39 (2010), pp. 3739–3755]. This class of models is an alternative means of analysing positive, continuous and skewed data and, due to its statistical properties, is very competitive with gamma regression models. First, we show that the Weibull model induces ma-ximum likelihood estimators asymptotically more efficient than the gamma model. Standardized residuals are defined, and their statistical properties are examined empirically. Some measures are derived based on the case-deletion model, including the generalized Cook's distance and measures for identifying influential observations on partial F-tests. The results of a simulation study conducted to assess behaviour of the global influence approach are also presented. Further, we perform a local influence analysis under the case-weights, response and explanatory variables perturbation schemes. The Weibull, gamma and other Weibull-type regression models are fitted into three data sets to illustrate the proposed diagnostic tools. Statistical analyses indicate that the Weibull model fitted into these data yields better fits than other common alternative models.  相似文献
