Nonparametric models with jump points have been considered by many researchers. However, most existing methods based on least squares or likelihood are sensitive when there are outliers or the error distribution is heavy tailed. In this article, a local piecewise-modal method is proposed to estimate the regression function with jump points in nonparametric models, and a piecewise-modal EM algorithm is introduced to estimate the proposed estimator. Under some regular conditions, the large-sample theory is established for the proposed estimators. Several simulations are presented to evaluate the performances of the proposed method, which shows that the proposed estimator is more efficient than the local piecewise-polynomial regression estimator in the presence of outliers or heavy tail error distribution. What is more, the proposed procedure is asymptotically equivalent to the local piecewise-polynomial regression estimator under the assumption that the error distribution is a Gaussian distribution. The proposed method is further illustrated via the sea-level pressures.  相似文献

Abstract

Minimum distance estimation on the linear regression model with independent errors is known to yield an efficient and robust estimator. We extend the method to the model with strong mixing errors and obtain an estimator of the vector of the regression parameters. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the proposed estimator still retains efficiency and robustness. To that end, this article investigates asymptotic distributional properties of the proposed estimator and compares it with other estimators. The efficiency and the robustness of the proposed estimator are empirically shown, and its superiority over the other estimators is established.  相似文献

This paper introduces an appealing semiparametric model for estimating wildlife abundance based on line transect data. The proposed method requires the existence of a parametric model and then improves the estimator using a kernel method. Properties of the resultant estimator are derived and an expression for the asymptotic mean square error (AMSE) of the estimator is given. Minimization of the AMSE leads to an explicit formula for an optimal choice of the smoothing parameter. Small-sample properties of the proposed estimator using the parametric half-normal model are investigated and compared with the classical kernel estimator using both simulations and real data. Numerical results show that improvements over the classical kernel estimator often can be realized even when the true density is far from the half-normal model.  相似文献

In this paper, a new estimator for a conditional quantile is proposed by using the empirical likelihood method and local linear fitting when some auxiliary information is available. The asymptotic normality of the estimator at both boundary and interior points is established. It is shown that the asymptotic variance of the proposed estimator is smaller than those of the usual kernel estimators at interior points, and that the proposed estimator has the desired sampling properties at both boundary and interior points. Therefore, no boundary modifications are required in our estimation.  相似文献

In this article, the problem of the estimation of finite population correlation coefficient is considered using the empirical likelihood method. A new estimator that makes the use of both the known mean and variance of an auxiliary variable is proposed. The percent relative bias and percent relative efficiency of the proposed new estimator with respect to the usual estimator of the correlation coefficient is investigated through extensive simulation study for values of the correlation coefficient from ?0.90 to +0.90. The proposed estimator is found to perform better than the simple correlation coefficient from both the bias and relative efficiency points of views, for the population, considered in the investigation. At the end, the proposed estimator has been extended to complex survey designs. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.  相似文献

We propose a profile conditional likelihood approach to handle missing covariates in the general semiparametric transformation regression model. The method estimates the marginal survival function by the Kaplan-Meier estimator, and then estimates the parameters of the survival model and the covariate distribution from a conditional likelihood, substituting the Kaplan-Meier estimator for the marginal survival function in the conditional likelihood. This method is simpler than full maximum likelihood approaches, and yields consistent and asymptotically normally distributed estimator of the regression parameter when censoring is independent of the covariates. The estimator demonstrates very high relative efficiency in simulations. When compared with complete-case analysis, the proposed estimator can be more efficient when the missing data are missing completely at random and can correct bias when the missing data are missing at random. The potential application of the proposed method to the generalized probit model with missing continuous covariates is also outlined.  相似文献

In this paper, an alternative estimator of population mean in the presence of non-response has been suggested which comes in the form of Walsh's estimator. The estimator of mean obtained from the proposed technique remains better than the estimators obtained from ratio or mean methods of imputation. The mean-squared error (MSE) of the resultant estimator is less than that of the estimator obtained on the basis of ratio method of imputation for the optimum choice of parameters. An estimator for estimating a parameter involved in the process of new method of imputation has been discussed. A suggestion to form ‘warm deck’ method of imputation has been suggested. The MSE expressions for the proposed estimators have been derived analytically and compared empirically. The work has been extended to the case of multi-auxiliary information to be used for imputation. Numerical illustrations are also provided.  相似文献

In this paper, a new power transformation estimator of population mean in the presence of non-response has been suggested. The estimator of mean obtained from proposed technique remains better than the estimators obtained from ratio or mean methods of imputation. The mean squared error of the resultant estimator is less than that of the estimator obtained on the basis of ratio method of imputation for the optinum choice of parameters. An estimator for estimating a parameter involved in the process of new method of imputation has been discussed. The MSE expressions for the proposed estimators have been derived analytically and compared empirically. Product method of imputation for negatively correlated variables has also been introduced. The work has been extended to the case of multi-auxiliary information to be used for imputation.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider statistical inference for additive partial linear models when the linear covariate is measured with error. A bias-corrected spline-backfitted kernel smoothing method is proposed. Under mild assumptions, the proposed component function and parameter estimator are oracally efficient and fast to compute. The nonparametric function estimator’s pointwise distribution is asymptotically equivalent to an function estimator in partial linear model. Finite-sample performance of the proposed estimators is assessed by simulation experiments. The proposed methods are applied to Boston house data set.  相似文献

A general class of multivariate regression models is considered for repeated measurements with discrete and continuous outcome variables. The proposed model is based on the seemingly unrelated regression model (Zellner, 1962) and an extension of the model of Park and Woolson(1992). The regression parameters of the model are consistently estimated using the two-stage least squares method. When the out come variables are multivariate normal, the two-stage estimator reduces to Zellner’s two-stage estimator. As a special case, we consider the marginal distribution described by Liang and Zeger (1986). Under this this distributional assumption, we show that the two-stage estimator has similar asymptotic properties and comparable small sample properties to Liang and Zeger's estimator. Since the proposed approach is based on the least squares method, however, any distributional assumption is not required for variables outcome variables. As a result, the proposed estimator is more robust to the marginal distribution of outcomes.  相似文献

The authors develop a small area estimation method using a nested error linear regression model and survey weights. In particular, they propose a pseudo‐empirical best linear unbiased prediction (pseudo‐EBLUP) estimator to estimate small area means. This estimator borrows strength across areas through the model and makes use of the survey weights to preserve the design consistency as the area sample size increases. The proposed estimator also has a nice self‐benchmarking property. The authors also obtain an approximation to the model mean squared error (MSE) of the proposed estimator and a nearly unbiased estimator of MSE. Finally, they compare the proposed estimator with the EBLUP estimator and the pseudo‐EBLUP estimator proposed by Prasad & Rao (1999), using data analyzed earlier by Battese, Harter & Fuller (1988).  相似文献

As an alternative to the local partial likelihood method of Tibshirani and Hastie and Fan, Gijbels, and King, a global partial likelihood method is proposed to estimate the covariate effect in a nonparametric proportional hazards model, λ(t|x) = exp{ψ(x)}λ(0)(t). The estimator, ψ?(x), reduces to the Cox partial likelihood estimator if the covariate is discrete. The estimator is shown to be consistent and semiparametrically efficient for linear functionals of ψ(x). Moreover, Breslow-type estimation of the cumulative baseline hazard function, using the proposed estimator ψ?(x), is proved to be efficient. The asymptotic bias and variance are derived under regularity conditions. Computation of the estimator involves an iterative but simple algorithm. Extensive simulation studies provide evidence supporting the theory. The method is illustrated with the Stanford heart transplant data set. The proposed global approach is also extended to a partially linear proportional hazards model and found to provide efficient estimation of the slope parameter. In this paper we propose a Bezier curve method to estimate the survival function and the median survival time in interval-censored data. We compare the proposed estimator with other existing methods such as the parametric method, the single point imputation method, and the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through extensive numerical studies, and it is shown that the proposed estimator performs better than others in the sense of mean squared error and mean integrated squared error. An illustrative example based on a real data set is given.  相似文献

This article presents a semiparametric method for estimating receiver operating characteristic surface under density ratio model. The construction of the proposed method is based on the adjacent-category logit model and the empirical likelihood approach. A bootstrap approach for the VUS estimator inference is presented. In a simulation study, the proposed estimator is compared with the existing parametric and nonparametric estimators in terms of bias, standard error, and mean square error. Finally, a real data example and some discussions on the proposed method are provided.  相似文献

A popular wavelet method for estimating jumps in functions is through the use of the translation-invariant (TI) estimator. The TI estimator addresses a particular problem, the susceptibility of the wavelet estimates to the location of the features in a function with respect to the support of the wavelet basis functions. The TI estimator reduces this reliance by cycling the data through a set of shifts, thus changing the relation between the wavelet support and the jump location. However, a drawback of the TI estimator is that it includes every shifted analysis in the reconstruction, even those that may reduce, rather than improve, the effectiveness of the method. In this paper, we propose a method that modifies the TI estimator to improve the jump reconstruction in terms of the mean squared errors of the reconstructions and visual performance. Information from the set of shifted data sets is used to mimic the performance of an oracle which knows exactly which are the best TI shifts to retain in the reconstruction. The TI estimate is a special case of the proposed method. A simulation study comparing this proposed method to the existing wavelet estimators and the oracle is provided.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new estimator for bivariate distribution functions under random truncation and random censoring. The new method is based on a polar coordinate transformation, which enables us to transform a bivariate survival function to a univariate survival function. A consistent estimator for the transformed univariate function is proposed. Then the univariate estimator is transformed back to a bivariate estimator. The estimator converges weakly to a zero-mean Gaussian process with an easily estimated covariance function. Consistent truncation probability estimate is also provided. Numerical studies show that the distribution estimator and truncation probability estimator perform remarkably well.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a nonparametric kernel method of estimating response coefficients in the stochastic regressors model. The method is straightforward, and the estimator is easy to calculate. The asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator is established, and an illustrative example is presented.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a nonparametric procedure to estimate the integrated volatility of an Itô semimartingale in the presence of jumps and microstructure noise. The estimator is based on a combination of the preaveraging method and threshold technique, which serves to remove microstructure noise and jumps, respectively. The estimator is shown to work for both finite and infinite activity jumps. Furthermore, asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator, such as consistency and a central limit theorem, are established. Simulations results are given to evaluate the performance of the proposed method in comparison with other alternative methods.  相似文献

A procedure based on the empirical characteristic function is proposed for the estimation of the center of symmetric distributions. The method is an adaptive modification of the procedure proposed by Koutrouvelis (1985). The asymptotic behavior of the resulting estimator is investigated and finite sample comparisons are made with the previous nonadaptive estimator and an adaptive trimmed mean proposed by Hogg (1974).  相似文献
