The problem of estimation of the regression coefficients in a multiple regression model is considered under multicollinearity situation when it is suspected that the regression coefficients may be restricted to a subspace. We present the estimators of the regression coefficients combining the idea of preliminary test and ridge regression methodology. Accordingly, we consider three estimators, namely, the unrestricted ridge regression estimator (URRE), the restricted ridge regression estimator (RRRE), and finally, the preliminary test ridge regression estimator (PTRRE). The biases, variancematrices and mean square errors (mse) of the estimators are derived and compared with the usual estimators. Regions of optimality of the estimators are determined by studying the mse criterion. The conditions of superiority of the estimators over the traditional estimators as in Saleh and Han (1990) and Ali and Saleh (1991) have also been discussed.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new stochastic restricted estimator for the unknown vector parameter in the linear regression model when stochastic linear restrictions on the parameters hold. We show that the new estimator is a generalization of the ordinary mixed estimator (OME), Liu estimator (LE), ordinary ridge estimator (ORR), (k-d) class estimator, stochastic restricted Liu estimator (SRLE), and stochastic restricted ridge estimator (SRRE). Performance of the new estimator in comparison to other estimators in terms of the mean squares error matrix (MMSE) is examined. Numerical example from literature have been given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the properties of the preliminary test, restricted and unrestricted ridge regression estimators of the linear regression model with non-normal disturbances. We present the estimators of the regression coefficients combining the idea of preliminary test and ridge regression methodology, when it is suspected that the regression coefficients may be restricted to a subspace and the regression error is distributed as multivariate t. Accordingly we consider three estimators, namely the Unrestricted Ridge Regression Estimator (URRRE), the Restricted Ridge Regression Estimator (RRRE) and finally the Preliminary test Ridge Regression Estimator (PTRRE). The biases and the mean square error (MSE) of the estimators are derived under the null and alternative hypotheses and compared with the usual estimators. The presence of autocorrelation in errors and multicollinearity among the regressors have undesirable effects on the least-squares regression. There are a wide range of methods which are proposed to overcome the usefulness of the ordinary least-squares estimator or the generalized least-squares estimator, such as the Stein-rule, restricted least-squares or ridge estimator. Therefore, we introduce a new feasible generalized restricted ridge regression (FGRR) estimator to examine multicollinearity and autocorrelation problems simultaneously for the general linear regression model. We also derive some statistical properties of the FGRR estimator and comparisons have been conducted using matrix mean-square error. Moreover, a Monte Carlo simulation experiment is performed to investigate the performance of the proposed estimator over the others.  相似文献

In the linear regression model the unknown parameter vector θ is supposed to vary in a known ellipsoid. Under this parameter constraint Kuks and Olman derived an estimator by demanding a minimax property. Since sometimes the Kuks-Olman estimator takes values outside of the ellipsoid a modification is proposed in the paper. It is shown that this modified variant is a least squares estimator in the restricted model.  相似文献

The simple linear regression model with measurement error has been subject to much research. In this work we will focus on this model when the error in the explanatory variable is correlated with the error in the regression equation. Specifically, we are interested in the comparison between the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator of the regression coefficient ββ and the estimator that takes account of the correlation between the errors. Based on large sample approximations, we compare the estimators and find that the estimator that takes account of the correlation should be preferred in most situations. We also compare the estimators in small sample situations. This is done by stochastic simulation. The results show that the estimators behave quite similarly in most of the simulated situations, but that the ordinary errors-in-variables estimator performs considerably worse than the estimator that takes account of the correlation for certain parameter combinations. In addition, we look briefly into the bias introduced by ignoring correlated errors when computing sample correlations, and in predictions.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a semiparametric ridge regression estimator for the vector-parameter in a partial linear model. It is also assumed that some additional artificial linear restrictions are imposed to the whole parameter space and the errors are dependent. This estimator is a generalization of the well-known restricted least-squares estimator and is confined to the (affine) subspace which is generated by the restrictions. Asymptotic distributional bias and risk are also derived and the comparison result is then given.  相似文献

In this article, the restricted rk class estimator and restricted rd class estimator are introduced, which are general estimators of the rk class estimator by Baye and Parker [Combining ridge and principal component regression: A money demand illustration, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 13(2) (1984), pp. 197–205] and the rd class estimator by Kaç?ranlar and Sakall?o?lu [Combining the Liu estimator and the principal component regression estimator, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 30(12) (2001), pp. 2699–2705], respectively. For the two cases when the restrictions are true and not true, the superiority of the restricted rk class estimator and rd class estimator over the restricted ridge regression estimator by Sarkar [A new estimator combining the ridge regression and the restricted least squares methods of estimation, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 21 (1992), pp. 1987–2000] and the restricted Liu estimator by Kaç?ranlar et al. [A new biased estimator in linear regression and a detailed analysis of the widely analysed dataset on Portland cement, Sankhya - Indian J. Stat. 61B(3) (1999), pp. 443–459] are discussed with respect to the mean squared error matrix criterion. In this article, we introduce a ridge estimator for the vector of parameters β in a semiparametric model when additional linear restrictions on the parameter vector are assumed to hold. We also obtain the semiparametric restricted ridge estimator for the parametric component in the semiparametric regression model. The ideas in this article are illustrated with a data set consisting of housing prices and through a comparison of the performances of the proposed and related estimators via a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce two kinds of new restricted estimators called restricted modified Liu estimator and restricted modified ridge estimator based on prior information for the vector of parameters in a linear regression model with linear restrictions. Furthermore, the performance of the proposed estimators in mean squares error matrix sense is derived and compared. In 2005 Lipovetsky and Conklin proposed an estimator, the two parameter ridge estimator (TRE), as an alternative to the ordinary least squares estimator (OLSE) and the ordinary ridge estimator (RE) in the presence of multicollinearity, and in 2006 Lipovetsky improved the two parameter model. In this paper, we introduce two new estimators, one of which is the modified two parameter ridge estimator (MTRE) defined by following Swindel's paper of 1976. The other one is the restricted two parameter ridge estimator (RTRE) which is derived by setting additional linear restrictions on the parameter vectors. This estimator is a generalization of the restricted least squares estimator (RLSE) and includes the restricted ridge estimator (RRE) proposed by Groß in 2003. A numerical example is provided and a simulation study is conducted for the comparisons of the RTRE with the OLSE, RLSE, RE, RRE and TRE.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we propose three generalized estimators, namely, generalized unrestricted estimator (GURE), generalized stochastic restricted estimator (GSRE), and generalized preliminary test stochastic restricted estimator (GPTSRE). The GURE can be used to represent the ridge estimator, almost unbiased ridge estimator (AURE), Liu estimator, and almost unbiased Liu estimator. When stochastic restrictions are available in addition to the sample information, the GSRE can be used to represent stochastic mixed ridge estimator, stochastic restricted Liu estimator, stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator, and stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator. The GPTSRE can be used to represent the preliminary test estimators based on mixed estimator. Using the GPTSRE, the properties of three other preliminary test estimators, namely preliminary test stochastic mixed ridge estimator, preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased Liu estimator, and preliminary test stochastic restricted almost unbiased ridge estimator can also be discussed. The mean square error matrix criterion is used to obtain the superiority conditions to compare the estimators based on GPTSRE with some biased estimators for the two cases for which the stochastic restrictions are correct, and are not correct. Finally, a numerical example and a Monte Carlo simulation study are done to illustrate the theoretical findings of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

In the linear regression model with elliptical errors, a shrinkage ridge estimator is proposed. In this regard, the restricted ridge regression estimator under sub-space restriction is improved by incorporating a general function which satisfies Taylor’s series expansion. Approximate quadratic risk function of the proposed shrinkage ridge estimator is evaluated in the elliptical regression model. A Monte Carlo simulation study and analysis based on a real data example are considered for performance analysis. It is evident from the numerical results that the shrinkage ridge estimator performs better than both unrestricted and restricted estimators in the multivariate t-regression model, for some specific cases.  相似文献

In this article, we assess the local influence for the ridge regression of linear models with stochastic linear restrictions in the spirit of Cook by using the log-likelihood of the stochastic restricted ridge regression estimator. The diagnostics under the perturbations of constant variance, responses and individual explanatory variables are derived. We also assess the local influence of the stochastic restricted ridge regression estimator under the approach suggested by Billor and Loynes. At the end, a numerical example on the Longley data is given to illustrate the theoretic results.  相似文献

It is shown that a necessary and sufficient condition derived by Farebrother (1984)for a generalized ridge estimator to dominate the ordinary least-squares estimator with respect to the mean-square-error-matrix criterion in the linear regression model admits a similar interpretation as the well known criterion of Toro-Viz-carrondo and Wallace (1968)for the dominance of a restricted least-squares estimator over the ordinary least-squares estimator. The Poisson regression is very popular in applied researches when analyzing the count data. However, multicollinearity problem arises for the Poisson regression model when the independent variables are highly intercorrelated. Shrinkage estimator is a commonly applied solution to the general problem caused by multicollinearity. Recently, the ridge regression (RR) estimators and some methods for estimating the ridge parameter k in the Poisson regression have been proposed. It has been found that some estimators are better than the commonly used maximum-likelihood (ML) estimator and some other RR estimators. In this study, the modified Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression (MJPR) estimator is proposed to remedy the multicollinearity. A simulation study and a real data example are provided to evaluate the performance of estimators. Both mean-squared error and the percentage relative error are considered as the performance criteria. The simulation study and the real data example results show that the proposed MJPR method outperforms the Poisson ridge regression, Jackknifed Poisson ridge regression and the ML in all of the different situations evaluated in this paper.  相似文献

Two types of LRRR estimators are investigated under the PRESS criterion and the optimal LRRR estimators and the optimal restricted generalized ridge regression estimator are obtained. In this article, the positive-rule Stein-type ridge estimator (PSRE) is introduced for the parameters in a multiple linear regression model with spherically symmetric error distributions when it is suspected that the parameter vector may be restricted to a linear manifold. The bias and quadratic risk functions of the PSRE are derived and compared with some related competing estimators in literatures. Particularly, some sufficient conditions are derived for superiority of the PSRE over the ordinary ridge estimator, the restricted ridge estimator and the preliminary test ridge estimator, respectively. It is known that when the multicollinearity exists in the logistic regression model, variance of maximum likelihood estimator is unstable. As a remedy, Schaefer et al. presented a ridge estimator in the logistic regression model. Making use of the ridge estimator, when some linear restrictions are also present, we introduce a restricted ridge estimator in the logistic regression model. Statistical properties of this newly defined estimator will be studied and comparisons are done in the simulation study in the sense of mean squared error criterion. A real-data example and a simulation study are introduced to discuss the performance of this estimator.  相似文献
