ABSTRACT

This paper investigates the finite-sample performance of the augmented Dickey–Fuller (ADF), Phillips–Perron (PP), momentum threshold autoregressive (M-TAR), Kapetanios–Shin–Snell (KSS), and the inf-t unit-root tests. Simulation results show that the ADF and KSS tests have better size, whereas other tests generate severe size distortions when the date-generating processes are non linear unit-root processes. In general, with regard to the combination of test powers with test sizes, the ADF and KSS tests are comparatively better than the PP, M-TAR, and inf-t tests; moreover, the inf-t test exhibits the poorest performance even for larger sample sizes.  相似文献

A basic graphical approach for checking normality is the Q - Q plot that compares sample quantiles against the population quantiles. In the univariate analysis, the probability plot correlation coefficient test for normality has been studied extensively. We consider testing the multivariate normality by using the correlation coefficient of the Q - Q plot. When multivariate normality holds, the sample squared distance should follow a chi-square distribution for large samples. The plot should resemble a straight line. A correlation coefficient test can be constructed by using the pairs of points in the probability plot. When the correlation coefficient test does not reject the null hypothesis, the sample data may come from a multivariate normal distribution or some other distributions. So, we use the following two steps to test multivariate normality. First, we check the multivariate normality by using the probability plot correction coefficient test. If the test does not reject the null hypothesis, then we test symmetry of the distribution and determine whether multivariate normality holds. This test procedure is called the combination test. The size and power of this test are studied, and it is found that the combination test, in general, is more powerful than other tests for multivariate normality.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Motivated by an example in marine science, we use Fisher’s method to combine independent likelihood ratio tests (LRTs) and asymptotic independent score tests to assess the equivalence of two zero-inflated Beta populations (mixture distributions with three parameters). For each test, test statistics for the three individual parameters are combined into a single statistic to address the overall difference between the two populations. We also develop non parametric and semiparametric permutation-based tests for simultaneously comparing two or three features of unknown populations. Simulations show that the likelihood-based tests perform well for large sample sizes and that the statistics based on combining LRT statistics outperforms the ones based on combining score test statistics. The permutation-based tests have overall better performance in terms of both power and type I error rate. Our methods are easy to implement and computationally efficient, and can be expanded to more than two populations and to other multiple parameter families. The permutation tests are entirely generic and can be useful in various applications dealing with zero (or other) inflation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A Lagrange multiplier test for testing the parametric structure of a constant conditional correlation-generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (CCC-GARCH) model is proposed. The test is based on decomposing the CCC-GARCH model multiplicatively into two components, one of which represents the null model, whereas the other one describes the misspecification. A simulation study shows that the test has good finite sample properties. We compare the test with other tests for misspecification of multivariate GARCH models. The test has high power against alternatives where the misspecification is in the GARCH parameters and is superior to other tests. The test is not greatly affected by misspecification in the conditional correlations and is therefore well suited for considering misspecification of GARCH equations.  相似文献

The RESET test for functional misspecification is generalised to cover systems of equations, and the properties of 7 versions are studied using Monte Carlo methods. The Rao F -test clearly exhibits the best performance as regards correct size, whilst the commonly used LRT (uncorrected for degrees-of-freedom), and LM and Wald tests (both corrected and uncorrected) behave badly even in single equations. The Rao test exhibits correct size even in ten equation systems, which is better than previous research concerning autocorrelation tests. The power of the test is low, however, when the number of equations grows and the correlation between the omitted variables and the RESET proxies is small.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Cylindrical data are bivariate data from the combination of circular and linear variables. However, up to now no work has been done on the detection of outlier in cylindrical data. We introduce a definition of outlier for cylindrical data and present a new test of discordancy to detect outlier in this type of data, based on the k-nearest neighbor’s distance. Cut-off points of the new test statistic based on the Johnson-Wehrly distribution are calculated and its performance is examined using simulation. A practical example is presented using wind speed and wind direction data obtained from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We use the sample covariation to develop tests for lagged linear dependence in symmetric time series data. We propose tests for both finite and infinite variance processes. The finite sample performance of the tests is investigated using simulated data and compared to tests based on the von Neumann ratio.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose two non parametric portmanteau test statistics for serial dependence in high dimensions using the correlation integral. One test depends on a cutoff threshold value, while the other test is freed of this dependence. Although these tests may each be viewed as variants of the classical Brock, Dechert, and Scheinkman (BDS) test statistic, they avoid some of the major weaknesses of this test. We establish consistency and asymptotic normality of both portmanteau tests. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we investigate the small sample properties of the tests for a variety of data generating processes with normally and uniformly distributed innovations. We show that asymptotic theory provides accurate inference in finite samples and for relatively high dimensions. This is followed by a power comparison with the BDS test, and with several rank-based extensions of the BDS tests that have recently been proposed in the literature. Two real data examples are provided to illustrate the use of the test procedure.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The one-sample Wilcoxon signed rank test was originally designed to test for a specified median, under the assumption that the distribution is symmetric, but it can also serve as a test for symmetry if the median is known. In this article we derive the Wilcoxon statistic as the first component of Pearson's X 2 statistic for independence in a particularly constructed contingency table. The second and third components are new test statistics for symmetry. In the second part of the article, the Wilcoxon test is extended so that symmetry around the median and symmetry in the tails can be examined seperately. A trimming proportion is used to split the observations in the tails from those around the median. We further extend the method so that no arbitrary choice for the trimming proportion has to be made. Finally, the new tests are compared to other tests for symmetry in a simulation study. It is concluded that our tests often have substantially greater powers than most other tests.  相似文献

We consider the problem of estimating Weibull parameters for grouped data when competing risks are present. We propose two simple methods of estimation and derive their asymptotic properties. A Monte Carlo study was carried out to evaluate the performance of these two methods.  相似文献

Several approaches to hypothesis testing for coefficients in least absolute value regression are compared using a Monte Carlo simulation: likelihood ratio test, Lagrange multiplier test, and three versions of the bootstrap hypothesis test. Factors considered that might influence test performance include the disturbance distribution, the type of independent variable, and the sample size. Overall, the likelihood ratio and the bootstrap tests perform best, with the likelihood ratio test being marginally more powerful. Least absolute value tests are also compared to the standard t test and three versions of the bootstrapped t test for least squares regression.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we extend the concept of univariate frailty to a bivariate case to quantify and visualize the loss of efficiency of the log-rank test when a dependence structure between failure and censoring times is being ignored. We assume that an unobservable frailty influences the risk of failure and the other affects the risk of censoring, and those two frailties are correlated. Under the model being compared as a benchmark, the dependence structure between failure and censoring times is assumed to be completely observed. Under the model where the log-rank test is constructed without considering the dependency between failure and censoring times, it is assumed that the unobservable dependence structure has been absorbed into the baseline distributions. We note in our particular example that the loss of efficiency is minimal under the proportional hazards model even when the correlation between potential failure and censoring times is strong unless the dependence censorship induces a severe nonproportionality.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A simple and efficient goodness-of-fit test for exponentiality is developed by exploiting the characterization of the exponential distribution using the probability integral transformation. We adopted the empirical likelihood methodology in constructing the test statistic. The proposed test statistic has a chi-square limiting distribution. For small to moderate sample sizes Monte-Carlo simulations revealed that our proposed tests are much more superior under increasing failure rate (IFR) and bathtub decreasing-increasing failure rate (BFR) alternatives. Real data examples were used to demonstrate the robustness and applicability of our proposed tests in practice.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider testing the homogeneity of risk differences in independent binomial distributions especially when data are sparse. We point out some drawback of existing tests in either controlling a nominal size or obtaining powers through theoretical and numerical studies. The proposed test is designed to avoid the drawbacks of existing tests. We present the asymptotic null distribution and asymptotic power function for the proposed test. We also provide numerical studies including simulations and real data examples showing the proposed test has reliable results compared to existing testing procedures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper we consider correlation-type tests based on plotting points which are modifications to the simultaneous closeness probability plotting points as recently introduced in the literature. In particular, we consider a maximal correlation test and a minimal correlation test. Furthermore, we provide two methods to carry out each test, where one method uses plotting points which are data dependent and the other test uses plotting points which are not. Some numerical properties on the associated correlation statistics are provided for various distributions, as well as a comprehensive power study to assess their performance in comparison to correlation-type tests based on more traditional plotting points. Two illustrative examples are also provided to demonstrate the tests. Finally, we make some observations and provide ideas for future work.  相似文献

Abstract

Analogs of the classical one way MANOVA model have recently been suggested that do not assume that population covariance matrices are equal or that the error vector distribution is known. These tests are based on the sample mean and sample covariance matrix corresponding to each of the p populations. We show how to extend these tests using other measures of location such as the trimmed mean or coordinatewise median. These new bootstrap tests can have some outlier resistance, and can perform better than the tests based on the sample mean if the error vector distribution is heavy tailed.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the problem of testing the mean vector in the multivariate normal distribution, where the dimension p is greater than the sample size N. We propose a new test TBlock and obtain its asymptotic distribution. We also compare the proposed test with other two tests. The simulation results suggest that the performance of the new test is comparable to the existing two tests, and under some circumstances it may have higher power. Therefore, the new statistic can be employed in practice as an alternative choice.  相似文献

Abstract

We consider the problem of testing the equality of several inverse Gaussian means when the scale parameters and sample sizes are possibly unequal. We propose four parametric bootstrap (PB) tests based on the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators of parameters. We also compare our proposed tests with the existing ones via an extensive simulation study in terms of controlling the Type I error rate and power performance. Simulation results show the merits of the PB tests.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A simple test based on Gini's mean difference is proposed to test the hypothesis of equality of population variances. Using 2000 replicated samples and empirical distributions, we show that the test compares favourably with Bartlett's and Levene's test for the normal population. Also, it is more powerful than Bartlett's and Levene's tests for some alternative hypotheses for some non-normal distributions and more robust than the other two tests for large sample sizes under some alternative hypotheses. We also give an approximate distribution to the test statistic to enable one to calculate the nominal levels and P-values.  相似文献

There are few distribution-free methods for detecting interaction in fixed-dose trials involving quantal response data, despite the fact that such trials are common. We present three new tests to address this issue, including a simple bootstrap procedure. We examine the power of the likelihood ratio test and our new bootstrap test statistic using an innovative linear extrapolation power-estimation technique described in Boos, D. D. and Zhang, J. (2000) in Monte Carlo evaluation of resampling-based hypothesis tests. Journal of the American Statistical Association, 95, 486–492.  相似文献
