In this paper, multivariate two-sample testing problems were examined based on the Jure?ková–Kalina's ranks of distances. The multivariate two-sample rank test based on the modified Baumgartner statistic for the two-sided alternative was proposed. The proposed statistic was a randomized statistic. Simulations were used to investigate the power of the suggested statistic for various population distributions.  相似文献

When differences of survival functions are located in early time, a Wilcoxon test is the best test, but when differences of survival functions are located in late time, using a log-rank test is better. Therefore, a researcher needs a stable test in these situations. In this paper, a new two-sample test is proposed and considered. This test is distribution-free. This test is useful for choosing between log-rank and Wilcoxon tests. Its power is roughly the maximal power of the log-rank test and Wilcoxon test.  相似文献

A two-sample problem for rank-order data is formulated as a two-decision problem. Using the general Bayes solution, Bayes procedures are derived for several configurations of the set of states of nature including some for which the problem is distribution-free. It is shown that for certain prior distributions these procedures reduce to classical LMP rank tests. Some devices for selection of prior distributions are suggested. It is shown that the Bayes risk of these procedures tends to zero as sample sizes increase.  相似文献

It is shown that the nonparametric two-saniDle test recently proposed by Baumgartner, WeiB, Schindler (1998, Biometrics, 54, 1129-1135) does not control the type I error rate in case of small sample sizes. We investigate the exact permutation test based on their statistic and demonstrate that this test is almost not conservative. Comparing exact tests, the procedure based on the new statistic has a less conservative size and is, according to simulation results, more powerful than the often employed Wilcoxon test. Furthermore, the new test is also powerful with regard to less restrictive settings than the location-shift model. For example, the test can detect location-scale alternatives. Therefore, we use the test to create a powerful modification of the nonparametric location-scale test according to Lepage (1971, Biometrika, 58, 213-217). Selected critical values for the proposed tests are given.  相似文献

It is well known that, when sample observations are independent, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve corresponds to the Wilcoxon statistics if the area is calculated by the trapezoidal rule. Correlated ROC curves arise often in medical research and have been studied by various parametric methods. On the basis of the Mann–Whitney U-statistics for clustered data proposed by Rosner and Grove, we construct an average ROC curve and derive nonparametric methods to estimate the area under the average curve for correlated ROC curves obtained from multiple readers. For the more complicated case where, in addition to multiple readers examining results on the same set of individuals, two or more diagnostic tests are involved, we derive analytic methods to compare the areas under correlated average ROC curves for these diagnostic tests. We demonstrate our methods in an example and compare our results with those obtained by other methods. The nonparametric average ROC curve and the analytic methods that we propose are easy to explain and simple to implement.  相似文献

In many case-control studies, it is common to utilize paired data when treatments are being evaluated. In this article, we propose and examine an efficient distribution-free test to compare two independent samples, where each is based on paired observations. We extend and modify the density-based empirical likelihood ratio test presented by Gurevich and Vexler [7] to formulate an appropriate parametric likelihood ratio test statistic corresponding to the hypothesis of our interest and then to approximate the test statistic nonparametrically. We conduct an extensive Monte Carlo study to evaluate the proposed test. The results of the performed simulation study demonstrate the robustness of the proposed test with respect to values of test parameters. Furthermore, an extensive power analysis via Monte Carlo simulations confirms that the proposed method outperforms the classical and general procedures in most cases related to a wide class of alternatives. An application to a real paired data study illustrates that the proposed test can be efficiently implemented in practice.  相似文献

The exponential family structure of the joint distribution of generalized order statistics is utilized to establish multivariate tests on the model parameters. For simple and composite null hypotheses, the likelihood ratio test (LR test), Wald's test, and Rao's score test are derived and turn out to have simple representations. The asymptotic distribution of the corresponding test statistics under the null hypothesis is stated, and, in case of a simple null hypothesis, asymptotic optimality of the LR test is addressed. Applications of the tests are presented; in particular, we discuss their use in reliability, and to decide whether a Poisson process is homogeneous. Finally, a power study is performed to measure and compare the quality of the tests for both, simple and composite null hypotheses.  相似文献

In testing for noninferiority of two binomial distributions, the hypothesis formulation most commonly considered defines equivalence in terms of a constant bound to the difference of the two parameters. In order to avoid some basic logical difficulty entailed in this formulation we use an equivalence region whose boundary has fixed vertical distance from the diagonal for all values of the reference responder rate above some cutoff point and coincides left from this point with the line joining it with the origin. For the corresponding noninferiority hypothesis we derive and compare two different testing procedures. The first one is based on an objective Bayesian decision rule. The other one is obtained through combining the score tests for noninferiority with respect to the difference and the ratio of the two proportions, respectively, by means of the intersection–union principle. Both procedures are extensively studied by means of exact computational methods.  相似文献

In applications of generalized order statistics as, for instance, reliability analysis of engineering systems, prior knowledge about the order of the underlying model parameters is often available and may therefore be incorporated in inferential procedures. Taking this information into account, we establish the likelihood ratio test, Rao's score test, and Wald's test for test problems arising from the question of appropriate model selection for ordered data, where simple order restrictions are put on the parameters under the alternative hypothesis. For simple and composite null hypothesis, explicit representations of the corresponding test statistics are obtained along with some properties and their asymptotic distributions. A simulation study is carried out to compare the order restricted tests in terms of their power. In the set-up considered, the adapted tests significantly improve the power of the associated omnibus versions for small sample sizes, especially when testing a composite null hypothesis.  相似文献

Some test statistics for the structural coefficients of simultaneous equations model often referred to as the multivariate linear functional relationship model are proposed in this article. The following cases are considered: the covariance matrix of errors is either unknown, known up to a proportionality factor, or completely known. The exact and approximate distributions of the proposed test statistics, as well as those of some that are known, are also given.  相似文献

In this article scan statistics for detecting a local change in variance for two-dimensional normal data are discussed. When the precise size of the rectangular window, where a local change in variance has occurred, is unknown, multiple and variable window scan statistics are proposed. A simulation study is presented to evaluate the performance of the scan statistics investigated in this article via comparison of power. A method for estimating the rectangular region, where a change in variance has occurred, and the size of the change in variance is also discussed.  相似文献

A class of nonparametric two-sample tests for testing identity of distributions versus alternatives containing both location and scale parameters is proposed and some properties are derived. A recursion formula for the exact distribution under the hypothesis is presented and, the asymptotic distribution is given under both the hypothesis and a contiguous sequence of alternatives. Some asymptotic optimality properties are deduced for particular tests of the class and finally, the asymptotic efficiency is found.  相似文献

When testing hypotheses in two-sample problem, the Lepage test statistic is often used to jointly test the location and scale parameters, and this test statistic has been discussed by many authors over the years. Since two-sample nonparametric testing plays an important role in biometry, the Cucconi test statistic is generalized to the location, scale, and location–scale parameters in two-sample problem. The limiting distribution of the suggested test statistic is derived under the hypotheses. Deriving the exact critical value of the test statistic is difficult when the sample sizes are increased. A gamma approximation is used to evaluate the upper tail probability for the proposed test statistic given finite sample sizes. The asymptotic efficiencies of the proposed test statistic are determined for various distributions. The consistency of the original Cucconi test statistic is shown on the specific cases. Finally, the original Cucconi statistic is discussed in the theory of ties.  相似文献

This paper is an investigation on the sufficient statistic for the parameters of the vector-valued (multivariate) ARMA models, when a finite sample is available. In the simplest case ARMA(1,1), by using the factorization theorem, we present a sufficient statistic whose dimension depends on the sample size and this dimension is even larger than the sample size. In this case and under some restrictions, we have solved this problem and have presented a sufficient statistic whose dimension does not depend on the sample size. In the general case, due to the complexity of the problem, we will use the modified versions of the likelihood function to find an approximate sufficient statistic in terms of the periodogram. The dimension of this sufficient statistic depends on the sample size; however, this dimension is much lower than the sample size.  相似文献

A class of test statistics is introduced which is sensitive against the alternative of stochastic ordering in the two-sample censored data problem. The test statistics for evaluating a cumulative weighted difference in survival distributions are developed while taking into account the imbalances in base-line covariates between two groups. This procedure can be used to test the null hypothesis of no treatment effect, especially when base-line hazards cross and prognostic covariates need to be adjusted. The statistics are semiparametric, not rank based, and can be written as integrated weighted differences in estimated survival functions, where these survival estimates are adjusted for covariate imbalances. The asymptotic distribution theory of the tests is developed, yielding test procedures that are shown to be consistent under a fixed alternative. The choice of weight function is discussed and relies on stability and interpretability considerations. An example taken from a clinical trial for acquired immune deficiency syndrome is presented.  相似文献

The problems of interval estimating the mean, quantiles, and survival probability in a two-parameter exponential distribution are addressed. Distribution function of a pivotal quantity whose percentiles can be used to construct confidence limits for the mean and quantiles is derived. A simple approximate method of finding confidence intervals for the difference between two means and for the difference between two location parameters is also proposed. Monte Carlo evaluation studies indicate that the approximate confidence intervals are accurate even for small samples. The methods are illustrated using two examples.  相似文献

We develop and study in the framework of Pareto-type distributions a general class of kernel estimators for the second order parameter ρρ, a parameter related to the rate of convergence of a sequence of linearly normalized maximum values towards its limit. Inspired by the kernel goodness-of-fit statistics introduced in Goegebeur et al. (2008), for which the mean of the normal limiting distribution is a function of ρρ, we construct estimators for ρρ using ratios of ratios of differences of such goodness-of-fit statistics, involving different kernel functions as well as power transformations. The consistency of this class of ρρ estimators is established under some mild regularity conditions on the kernel function, a second order condition on the tail function 1−F of the underlying model, and for suitably chosen intermediate order statistics. Asymptotic normality is achieved under a further condition on the tail function, the so-called third order condition. Two specific examples of kernel statistics are studied in greater depth, and their asymptotic behavior illustrated numerically. The finite sample properties are examined by means of a simulation study.  相似文献

The Rayleigh distribution has been used to model right skewed data. Rayleigh [On the resultant of a large number of vibrations of the some pitch and of arbitrary phase. Philos Mag. 1880;10:73–78] derived it from the amplitude of sound resulting from many important sources. In this paper, a new goodness-of-fit test for the Rayleigh distribution is proposed. This test is based on the empirical likelihood ratio methodology proposed by Vexler and Gurevich [Empirical likelihood ratios applied to goodness-of-fit tests based on sample entropy. Comput Stat Data Anal. 2010;54:531–545]. Consistency of the proposed test is derived. It is shown that the distribution of the proposed test does not depend on scale parameter. Critical values of the test statistic are computed, through a simulation study. A Monte Carlo study for the power of the proposed test is carried out under various alternatives. The performance of the test is compared with some well-known competing tests. Finally, an illustrative example is presented and analysed.  相似文献

A conditional saddlepoint approximation was provided by Gatto and Jammalamadaka (1999) for computing the distribution function of many test statistics based on dependent quantities like multinomial frequencies, spacing frequencies, etc. The considerable complexity of the formulas involved can be bypassed by symbolic computation. This article illustrates the effectiveness of symbolic computation to evaluate the saddlepoint approximation for the likelihood ratio, the exponential score, and the Wald-Wolfowitz test statistics. The case of composite hypotheses is also discussed.  相似文献
