This paper considers the problem of Bayesian automatic polynomial wavelet regression (PWR). We propose three different Bayesian methods based on integrated likelihood, conditional empirical Bayes, and reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). From the simulation results, we find that the proposed methods are similar to or superior to the existing ones.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper we compare through Monte Carlo simulations the finite sample properties of estimators of the fractional differencing parameter, d. This involves frequency domain, time domain, and wavelet based approaches, and we consider both parametric and semiparametric estimation methods. The estimators are briefly introduced and compared, and the criteria adopted for measuring finite sample performance are bias and root mean squared error. Most importantly, the simulations reveal that (1) the frequency domain maximum likelihood procedure is superior to the time domain parametric methods, (2) all the estimators are fairly robust to conditionally heteroscedastic errors, (3) the local polynomial Whittle and bias-reduced log-periodogram regression estimators are shown to be more robust to short-run dynamics than other semiparametric (frequency domain and wavelet) estimators and in some cases even outperform the time domain parametric methods, and (4) without sufficient trimming of scales the wavelet-based estimators are heavily biased.  相似文献

This paper studies robust estimation of multivariate regression model using kernel weighted local linear regression. A robust estimation procedure is proposed for estimating the regression function and its partial derivatives. The proposed estimators are jointly asymptotically normal and attain nonparametric optimal convergence rate. One-step approximations to the robust estimators are introduced to reduce computational burden. The one-step local M-estimators are shown to achieve the same efficiency as the fully iterative local M-estimators as long as the initial estimators are good enough. The proposed estimators inherit the excellent edge-effect behavior of the local polynomial methods in the univariate case and at the same time overcome the disadvantages of the local least-squares based smoothers. Simulations are conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed estimators. Real data sets are analyzed to illustrate the practical utility of the proposed methodology. This paper considers the problem of selecting a robust threshold of wavelet shrinkage. Previous approaches reported in literature to handle the presence of outliers mainly focus on developing a robust procedure for a given threshold; this is related to solving a nontrivial optimization problem. The drawback of this approach is that the selection of a robust threshold, which is crucial for the resulting fit is ignored. This paper points out that the best fit can be achieved by a robust wavelet shrinkage with a robust threshold. We propose data-driven selection methods for a robust threshold. These approaches are based on a coupling of classical wavelet thresholding rules with pseudo data. The concept of pseudo data has influenced the implementation of the proposed methods, and provides a fast and efficient algorithm. Results from a simulation study and a real example demonstrate the promising empirical properties of the proposed approaches.  相似文献

In Oh, Naveau and Lee (2001) a simple method is proposed for reducing the bias at the boundaries for wavelet thresholding regression. The idea is to model the regression function as a sum of wavelet basis functions and a low-order polynomial. The latter is expected to account for the boundary problem. Practical implementation of this method requires the choice of the order of the low-order polynomial, as well as the wavelet thresholding value. This paper proposes two automatic methods for making such choices. Finite sample performances of these two methods are evaluated via numerical experiments.  相似文献

Summary.  Local polynomial regression is a useful non-parametric regression tool to explore fine data structures and has been widely used in practice. We propose a new non-parametric regression technique called local composite quantile regression smoothing to improve local polynomial regression further. Sampling properties of the estimation procedure proposed are studied. We derive the asymptotic bias, variance and normality of the estimate proposed. The asymptotic relative efficiency of the estimate with respect to local polynomial regression is investigated. It is shown that the estimate can be much more efficient than the local polynomial regression estimate for various non-normal errors, while being almost as efficient as the local polynomial regression estimate for normal errors. Simulation is conducted to examine the performance of the estimates proposed. The simulation results are consistent with our theoretical findings. A real data example is used to illustrate the method proposed.  相似文献

As a useful supplement to mean regression, quantile regression is a completely distribution-free approach and is more robust to heavy-tailed random errors. In this paper, a variable selection procedure for quantile varying coefficient models is proposed by combining local polynomial smoothing with adaptive group LASSO. With an appropriate selection of tuning parameters by the BIC criterion, the theoretical properties of the new procedure, including consistency in variable selection and the oracle property in estimation, are established. The finite sample performance of the newly proposed method is investigated through simulation studies and the analysis of Boston house price data. Numerical studies confirm that the newly proposed procedure (QKLASSO) has both robustness and efficiency for varying coefficient models irrespective of error distribution, which is a good alternative and necessary supplement to the KLASSO method.  相似文献

Short-term forecasting of wind generation requires a model of the function for the conversion of meteorological variables (mainly wind speed) to power production. Such a power curve is nonlinear and bounded, in addition to being nonstationary. Local linear regression is an appealing nonparametric approach for power curve estimation, for which the model coefficients can be tracked with recursive Least Squares (LS) methods. This may lead to an inaccurate estimate of the true power curve, owing to the assumption that a noise component is present on the response variable axis only. Therefore, this assumption is relaxed here, by describing a local linear regression with orthogonal fit. Local linear coefficients are defined as those which minimize a weighted Total Least Squares (TLS) criterion. An adaptive estimation method is introduced in order to accommodate nonstationarity. This has the additional benefit of lowering the computational costs of updating local coefficients every time new observations become available. The estimation method is based on tracking the left-most eigenvector of the augmented covariance matrix. A robustification of the estimation method is also proposed. Simulations on semi-artificial datasets (for which the true power curve is available) underline the properties of the proposed regression and related estimation methods. An important result is the significantly higher ability of local polynomial regression with orthogonal fit to accurately approximate the target regression, even though it may hardly be visible when calculating error criteria against corrupted data.  相似文献

The main idea of the paper is to introduce a robust regression estimation method under an α-mixing dependence assumption, staying free of any parametric model restrictions while also allowing for some sudden changes in the unknown regression function. The sudden changes in the model may correspond to discontinuity points (jumps) or higher order breaks (jumps in corresponding derivatives) as well. We firstly derive some important statistical properties for local polynomial M-smoother estimates and we will propose a statistical test to decide whether some given point of interest is significantly important for a change to occur or not. As the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic depends on quantities which are left unknown we also introduce a bootstrap algorithm which can be used to mimic the target distribution of interest. All necessary proofs are provided together with some experimental results from a simulation study and a real data example.  相似文献

Nonparametric models with jump points have been considered by many researchers. However, most existing methods based on least squares or likelihood are sensitive when there are outliers or the error distribution is heavy tailed. In this article, a local piecewise-modal method is proposed to estimate the regression function with jump points in nonparametric models, and a piecewise-modal EM algorithm is introduced to estimate the proposed estimator. Under some regular conditions, the large-sample theory is established for the proposed estimators. Several simulations are presented to evaluate the performances of the proposed method, which shows that the proposed estimator is more efficient than the local piecewise-polynomial regression estimator in the presence of outliers or heavy tail error distribution. What is more, the proposed procedure is asymptotically equivalent to the local piecewise-polynomial regression estimator under the assumption that the error distribution is a Gaussian distribution. The proposed method is further illustrated via the sea-level pressures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we develop an efficient wavelet-based regularized linear quantile regression framework for coefficient estimations, where the responses are scalars and the predictors include both scalars and function. The framework consists of two important parts: wavelet transformation and regularized linear quantile regression. Wavelet transform can be used to approximate functional data through representing it by finite wavelet coefficients and effectively capturing its local features. Quantile regression is robust for response outliers and heavy-tailed errors. In addition, comparing with other methods it provides a more complete picture of how responses change conditional on covariates. Meanwhile, regularization can remove small wavelet coefficients to achieve sparsity and efficiency. A novel algorithm, Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) is derived to solve the optimization problems. We conduct numerical studies to investigate the finite sample performance of our method and applied it on real data from ADHD studies.  相似文献

This work studies outlier detection and robust estimation with data that are naturally distributed into groups and which follow approximately a linear regression model with fixed group effects. For this, several methods are considered. First, the robust fitting method of Peña and Yohai [A fast procedure for outlier diagnostics in large regression problems. J Am Stat Assoc. 1999;94:434–445], called principal sensitivity components (PSC) method, is adapted to the grouped data structure and the mentioned model. The robust methods RDL1 of Hubert and Rousseeuw [Robust regression with both continuous and binary regressors. J Stat Plan Inference. 1997;57:153–163] and M-S of Maronna and Yohai [Robust regression with both continuous and categorical predictors. Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference 2000;89:197–214] are also considered. These three methods are compared in terms of their effectiveness in outlier detection and their robustness through simulations, considering several contamination scenarios and growing contamination levels. Results indicate that the adapted PSC procedure is able to detect a high percentage of true outliers and a small number of false outliers. It is appropriate when the contamination is in the error term or in the covariates, detecting also possibly masked high leverage points. Moreover, in simulations the final robust regression estimator preserved good efficiency under Normality while keeping good robustness properties.  相似文献

A general threshold stress hybrid hazard model for lifetime data   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
In this paper we propose a hybrid hazard regression model with threshold stress which includes the proportional hazards and the accelerated failure time models as particular cases. To express the behavior of lifetimes the generalized-gamma distribution is assumed and an inverse power law model with a threshold stress is considered. For parameter estimation we develop a sampling-based posterior inference procedure based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. We assume proper but vague priors for the parameters of interest. A simulation study investigates the frequentist properties of the proposed estimators obtained under the assumption of vague priors. Further, some discussions on model selection criteria are given. The methodology is illustrated on simulated and real lifetime data set.  相似文献

This paper focuses on robust estimation and variable selection for partially linear models. We combine the weighted least absolute deviation (WLAD) regression with the adaptive least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) to achieve simultaneous robust estimation and variable selection for partially linear models. Compared with the LAD-LASSO method, the WLAD-LASSO method will resist to the heavy-tailed errors and outliers in the parametric components. In addition, we estimate the unknown smooth function by a robust local linear regression. Under some regular conditions, the theoretical properties of the proposed estimators are established. We further examine finite-sample performance of the proposed procedure by simulation studies and a real data example.  相似文献

For estimation of time-varying coefficient longitudinal models, the widely used local least-squares (LS) or covariance-weighted local LS smoothing uses information from the local sample average. Motivated by the fact that a combination of multiple quantiles provides a more complete picture of the distribution, we investigate quantile regression-based methods to improve efficiency by optimally combining information across quantiles. Under the working independence scenario, the asymptotic variance of the proposed estimator approaches the Cramér–Rao lower bound. In the presence of dependence among within-subject measurements, we adopt a prewhitening technique to transform regression errors into independent innovations and show that the prewhitened optimally weighted quantile average estimator asymptotically achieves the Cramér–Rao bound for the independent innovations. Fully data-driven bandwidth selection and optimal weights estimation are implemented through a two-step procedure. Monte Carlo studies show that the proposed method delivers more robust and superior overall performance than that of the existing methods.  相似文献

This paper concerns wavelet regression using a block thresholding procedure. Block thresholding methods utilize neighboring wavelet coefficients information to increase estimation accuracy. We propose to construct a data-driven block thresholding procedure using the smoothly clipped absolute deviation (SCAD) penalty. A simulation study demonstrates competitive finite sample performance of the proposed estimator compared to existing methods. We also show that the proposed estimator achieves optimal convergence rates in Besov spaces.  相似文献

This paper compares the performance between regression analysis and a clustering based neural network approach when the data deviates from the homoscedasticity assumption of regression. Heteroskedasticity is a problem that arises in linear regression due to the unequal error variances. One of the methods to deal heteroskedasticity in classical regression theory is weighted least-square regression (WLS). In order to deal the problem of heteroskedasticity, backpropagation neural network is applied. In this context, an algorithm is proposed which is based on robust estimates of location and dispersion matrix that helps in preserving the error assumption of the linear regression. Analysis is carried out with appropriate designs using simulated data and the results are presented.  相似文献

The different parts (variables) of a compositional data set cannot be considered independent from each other, since only the ratios between the parts constitute the relevant information to be analysed. Practically, this information can be included in a system of orthonormal coordinates. For the task of regression of one part on other parts, a specific choice of orthonormal coordinates is proposed which allows for an interpretation of the regression parameters in terms of the original parts. In this context, orthogonal regression is appropriate since all compositional parts – also the explanatory variables – are measured with errors. Besides classical (least-squares based) parameter estimation, also robust estimation based on robust principal component analysis is employed. Statistical inference for the regression parameters is obtained by bootstrap; in the robust version the fast and robust bootstrap procedure is used. The methodology is illustrated with a data set from macroeconomics.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

M-estimation is a widely used technique for robust statistical inference. In this paper, we study robust partially functional linear regression model in which a scale response variable is explained by a function-valued variable and a finite number of real-valued variables. For the estimation of the regression parameters, which include the infinite dimensional function as well as the slope parameters for the real-valued variables, we use polynomial splines to approximate the slop parameter. The estimation procedure is easy to implement, and it is resistant to heavy-tailederrors or outliers in the response. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are established. Finally, we assess the finite sample performance of the proposed method by Monte Carlo simulation studies.  相似文献
