A generalized version of inverted exponential distribution (IED) is considered in this paper. This lifetime distribution is capable of modeling various shapes of failure rates, and hence various shapes of aging criteria. The model can be considered as another useful two-parameter generalization of the IED. Maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates for two parameters of the generalized inverted exponential distribution (GIED) are obtained on the basis of a progressively type-II censored sample. We also showed the existence, uniqueness and finiteness of the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters of GIED based on progressively type-II censored data. Bayesian estimates are obtained using squared error loss function. These Bayesian estimates are evaluated by applying the Lindley's approximation method and via importance sampling technique. The importance sampling technique is used to compute the Bayes estimates and the associated credible intervals. We further consider the Bayes prediction problem based on the observed samples, and provide the appropriate predictive intervals. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed methods and a data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, the Bayesian approach is applied to the estimation problem in the case of step stress partially accelerated life tests with two stress levels and type-I censoring. Gompertz distribution is considered as a lifetime model. The posterior means and posterior variances are derived using the squared-error loss function. The Bayes estimates cannot be obtained in explicit forms. Approximate Bayes estimates are computed using the method of Lindley [D.V. Lindley, Approximate Bayesian methods, Trabajos Estadistica 31 (1980), pp. 223–237]. The advantage of this proposed method is shown. The approximate Bayes estimates obtained under the assumption of non-informative priors are compared with their maximum likelihood counterparts using Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

The article presents the Bayesian inference for the parameters of randomly censored Burr-type XII distribution with proportional hazards. The joint conjugate prior of the proposed model parameters does not exist; we consider two different systems of priors for Bayesian estimation. The explicit forms of the Bayes estimators are not possible; we use Lindley's method to obtain the Bayes estimates. However, it is not possible to obtain the Bayesian credible intervals with Lindley's method; we suggest the Gibbs sampling procedure for this purpose. Numerical experiments are performed to check the properties of the different estimators. The proposed methodology is applied to a real-life data for illustrative purposes. The Bayes estimators are compared with the Maximum likelihood estimators via numerical experiments and real data analysis. The model is validated using posterior predictive simulation in order to ascertain its appropriateness.  相似文献

This article presents the statistical inferences on Weibull parameters with the data that are progressively type II censored. The maximum likelihood estimators are derived. For incorporation of previous information with current data, the Bayesian approach is considered. We obtain the Bayes estimators under squared error loss with a bivariate prior distribution, and derive the credible intervals for the parameters of Weibull distribution. Also, the Bayes prediction intervals for future observations are obtained in the one- and two-sample cases. The method is shown to be practical, although a computer program is required for its implementation. A numerical example is presented for illustration and some simulation study are performed.  相似文献

Bayes estimators of reliability for the lognormal failure distribution with two parameters (M,∑) are obtained both for informative priors of normal-gamma type and for the vague prior of Jeffreys. The estimators are in terms of the t-distribution function. The Bayes estimators are compared with the maximum likelihood and minimum variance unbiased estimators of reliabil-ity using Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

For the hierarchical Poisson and gamma model, we calculate the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter of the Poisson distribution under Stein's loss function which penalizes gross overestimation and gross underestimation equally and the corresponding Posterior Expected Stein's Loss (PESL). We also obtain the Bayes posterior estimator of the parameter under the squared error loss and the corresponding PESL. Moreover, we obtain the empirical Bayes estimators of the parameter of the Poisson distribution with a conjugate gamma prior by two methods. In numerical simulations, we have illustrated: The two inequalities of the Bayes posterior estimators and the PESLs; the moment estimators and the Maximum Likelihood Estimators (MLEs) are consistent estimators of the hyperparameters; the goodness-of-fit of the model to the simulated data. The numerical results indicate that the MLEs are better than the moment estimators when estimating the hyperparameters. Finally, we exploit the attendance data on 314 high school juniors from two urban high schools to illustrate our theoretical studies.  相似文献

This article deals with the statistical inference and prediction on Burr Type XII parameters based on Type II censored sample. It is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) cannot be obtained in closed form. We use the expectation-maximization algorithm to compute the MLEs. We also obtain the Bayes estimators under symmetric and asymmetric loss functions such as squared error and Linex By applying Lindley's approximation and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique. Further, MCMC samples are used to calculate the highest posterior density credible intervals. Monte Carlo simulation study and two real-life data-sets are presented to illustrate all of the methods developed here. Furthermore, we obtain a prediction of future order statistics based on the observed ordered because of its important application in different fields such as medical and engineering sciences. A numerical example carried out to illustrate the procedures obtained for prediction of future order statistics.  相似文献

A simple estimation procedure, based on the generalized least squares method, for the parameters of the Weibull distribution is described and investigated. Through a simulation study, this estimation technique is compared with maximum likelihood estimation, ordinary least squares estimation, and Menon's estimation procedure; this comparison is based on observed relative efficiencies (that is, the ratio of the Cramer-Rao lower bound to the observed mean squared error). Simulation results are presented for samples of size 25. Among the estimators considered in this simulation study, the generalized least squares estimator was found to be the "best" estimator for the shape parameter and a close competitor to the maximum likelihood estimator of the scale parameter.  相似文献

We propose a modification of the moment estimators for the two-parameter weighted Lindley distribution. The modification replaces the second sample moment (or equivalently the sample variance) by a certain sample average which is bounded on the unit interval for all values in the sample space. In this method, the estimates always exist uniquely over the entire parameter space and have consistency and asymptotic normality over the entire parameter space. The bias and mean squared error of the estimators are also examined by means of a Monte Carlo simulation study, and the empirical results show the small-sample superiority in addition to the desirable large sample properties. Monte Carlo simulation study showed that the proposed modified moment estimators have smaller biases and smaller mean-square errors than the existing moment estimators and are compared favourably with the maximum likelihood estimators in terms of bias and mean-square error. Three illustrative examples are finally presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches for estimating the parameters and the prediction of future record values for the Kumaraswamy distribution has been considered when the lower record values along with the number of observations following the record values (inter-record-times) have been observed. The Bayes estimates are obtained based on a joint bivariate prior for the shape parameters. In this case, Bayes estimates of the parameters have been developed by using Lindley's approximation and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method due to the lack of explicit forms under the squared error and the linear-exponential loss functions. The MCMC method has been also used to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals. The Bayes and the maximum likelihood estimates are compared by using the estimated risk through Monte Carlo simulations. We further consider the non-Bayesian and Bayesian prediction for future lower record values arising from the Kumaraswamy distribution based on record values with their corresponding inter-record times and only record values. The comparison of the derived predictors are carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. Real data are analysed for an illustration of the findings.  相似文献

The generalized lognormal distribution plays an important role in analysing data from different life testing experiments. In this paper, we consider Bayesian analysis of this distribution using various objective priors for the model parameters. Specifically, we derive expressions for the Jeffreys-type priors, the reference priors with different group orderings of the parameters, and the first-order matching priors. We also study the properties of the posterior distributions of the parameters under these improper priors. It is shown that only two of them result in proper posterior distributions. Numerical simulation studies are conducted to compare the performances of the Bayesian estimators under the considered priors and the maximum likelihood estimates. Finally, a real-data application is also provided for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

A hybrid censoring is a mixture of Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes. This article presents the statistical inferences on Weibull parameters when the data are hybrid censored. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and the approximate maximum likelihood estimators are developed for estimating the unknown parameters. Asymptotic distributions of the MLEs are used to construct approximate confidence intervals. Bayes estimates and the corresponding highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained under suitable priors on the unknown parameters and using the Gibbs sampling procedure. The method of obtaining the optimum censoring scheme based on the maximum information measure is also developed. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the different methods and one data set is analyzed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The maximum likelihood and Bayesian approaches for parameter estimations and prediction of future record values have been considered for the two-parameter Burr Type XII distribution based on record values with the number of trials following the record values (inter-record times). Firstly, the Bayes estimates are obtained based on a joint bivariate prior for the shape parameters. In this case, the Bayes estimates of the parameters have been developed by using Lindley's approximation and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method due to the lack of explicit forms under the squared error and the linear-exponential loss functions. The MCMC method has been also used to construct the highest posterior density credible intervals. Secondly, the Bayes estimates are obtained with respect to a discrete prior for the first shape parameter and a conjugate prior for other shape parameter. The Bayes and the maximum likelihood estimates are compared in terms of the estimated risk by the Monte Carlo simulations. We further consider the non-Bayesian and Bayesian prediction for future lower record arising from the Burr Type XII distribution based on record data. The comparison of the derived predictors is carried out by using Monte Carlo simulations. A real data are analysed for illustration purposes.  相似文献

Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution is one of the most popular absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Recently, Kundu and Gupta [A class of absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Statist Methodol. 2010;7:464–477] introduced Block and Basu bivariate Weibull (BBBW) distribution, which is a generalization of the Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution, and provided the maximum likelihood estimators using EM algorithm. In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the BBBW distribution. The Bayes estimators are obtained with respect to the squared error loss function, and the prior distributions allow for prior dependence among the unknown parameters. Prior independence also can be obtained as a special case. It is observed that the Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose to use the importance sampling technique to compute the Bayes estimates and also to construct the associated highest posterior density credible intervals. The analysis of two data sets has been performed for illustrative purposes. The performances of the proposed estimators are quite satisfactory. Finally, we generalize the results for the multivariate case.  相似文献

We proposed a new class of maximum a posteriori estimators for the parameters of the Gamma distribution. These estimators have simple closed-form expressions and can be rewritten as a bias-corrected maximum likelihood estimators presented by Ye and Chen [Closed-form estimators for the gamma distribution derived from likelihood equations. Am Statist. 2017;71(2):177–181]. A simulation study was carried out to compare different estimation procedures. Numerical results revels that our new estimation scheme outperforms the existing closed-form estimators and produces extremely efficient estimates for both parameters, even for small sample sizes.  相似文献

The paper deals with the problem of parameter estimation in the presence of a guess value and attempts to justify the use of Bayes estimators as an alternative to ordinary shrinkage estimators. Finally, certain Bayes estimators of exponential parameters are obtained under type II censoring, and these are compared with the corresponding MLEs and ordinary shrinkage estimators using a Monte Carlo study.  相似文献

This article addresses various properties and estimation methods for the Exponentiated Chen distribution. Although, our main focus is on estimation from frequentist point of view, yet, some statistical and reliability characteristics for the model are derived. We briefly describe different estimation procedures, namely, the method of maximum likelihood estimation, percentile estimation, least square and weighted least-square estimation, maximum product of spacings estimation, Cramér-von-Mises estimation, Anderson–Darling, and right-tail Anderson–Darling estimation. Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compare the performances of the proposed methods of estimation for both small and large samples. Finally, the potentiality of the model is analyzed by means of three real datasets.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the randomly censored Weibull distribution. A joint conjugate prior on the model parameters does not exist; we assume that the parameters have independent gamma priors. Since closed-form expressions for the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained, we use Lindley's approximation, importance sampling and Gibbs sampling techniques to obtain the approximate Bayes estimates and the corresponding credible intervals. A simulation study is performed to observe the behaviour of the proposed estimators. A real data analysis is presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We investigate a Bayesian inference in the three-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution which is obtained by adding a power parameter to the two-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution suggested by Chen (2000). The Bayes estimators under the balanced squared error loss function are derived for three parameters. Then, we have used Lindley's and Tierney–Kadane approximations (see Lindley 1980; Tierney and Kadane 1986) for computing these Bayes estimators. In particular, we propose the explicit form of Lindley's approximation for the model with three parameters. We also give applications with a simulated data set and two real data sets to show the use of discussed computing methods. Finally, concluding remarks are mentioned.  相似文献

The main goal of this paper is to develop the approximate Bayes estimation of the five-dimensional vector of the parameters and reliability function of a mixture of two inverse Weibull distributions (MTIWD) under Type-2 censoring. Usually, the posterior distribution is complicated under the scheme of Type-2 censoring and the integrals that are involved cannot be obtained in a simple explicit form. In this study, we use Lindley's [Approximate Bayesian method, Trabajos Estadist. 31 (1980), pp. 223–237] approximate form of Bayes estimation in the case of an MTIWD under Type-2 censoring. Later, we calculate the estimated risks (ERs) of the Bayes estimates and compare them with the corresponding ERs of the maximum-likelihood estimates through Monte Carlo simulation. Finally, we analyse a real data set using the findings.  相似文献
