Cox's widely used semi-parametric proportional hazards (PH) regression model places restrictions on the possible shapes of the hazard function. Models based on the first hitting time (FHT) of a stochastic process are among the alternatives and have the attractive feature of being based on a model of the underlying process. We review and compare the PH model and an FHT model based on a Wiener process which leads to an inverse Gaussian (IG) regression model. This particular model can also represent a “cured fraction” or long-term survivors. A case study of survival after coronary artery bypass grafting is used to examine the interpretation of the IG model, especially in relation to covariates that affect both of its parameters. 相似文献

The inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is widely used to model positively skewed data. An important issue is to develop a powerful goodness-of-fit test for the IG distribution. We propose and examine novel test statistics for testing the IG goodness of fit based on the density-based empirical likelihood (EL) ratio concept. To construct the test statistics, we use a new approach that employs a method of the minimization of the discrimination information loss estimator to minimize Kullback–Leibler type information. The proposed tests are shown to be consistent against wide classes of alternatives. We show that the density-based EL ratio tests are more powerful than the corresponding classical goodness-of-fit tests. The practical efficiency of the tests is illustrated by using real data examples. 相似文献

Review and implementation of cure models based on first hitting times for Wiener processes 总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2
The development of models and methods for cure rate estimation has recently burgeoned into an important subfield of survival analysis. Much of the literature focuses on the standard mixture model. Recently, process-based models have been suggested. We focus on several models based on first passage times for Wiener processes. Whitmore and others have studied these models in a variety of contexts. Lee and Whitmore (Stat Sci 21(4):501–513, 2006) give a comprehensive review of a variety of first hitting time models and briefly discuss their potential as cure rate models. In this paper, we study the Wiener process with negative drift as a possible cure rate model but the resulting defective inverse Gaussian model is found to provide a poor fit in some cases. Several possible modifications are then suggested, which improve the defective inverse Gaussian. These modifications include: the inverse Gaussian cure rate mixture model; a mixture of two inverse Gaussian models; incorporation of heterogeneity in the drift parameter; and the addition of a second absorbing barrier to the Wiener process, representing an immunity threshold. This class of process-based models is a useful alternative to the standard model and provides an improved fit compared to the standard model when applied to many of the datasets that we have studied. Implementation of this class of models is facilitated using expectation-maximization (EM) algorithms and variants thereof, including the gradient EM algorithm. Parameter estimates for each of these EM algorithms are given and the proposed models are applied to both real and simulated data, where they perform well. 相似文献

For testing the fit of the inverse Gaussian distribution with unknown parameters, the empirical distribution-function statistic A2 is studied. Two procedures are followed in constructing the test statistic; they yield the same asymptotic distribution. In the first procedure the parameters in the distribution function are directly estimated, and in the second the distribution function is estimated by its Rao-Blackwell distribution estimator. A table is given for the asymptotic critical points of A2. These are shown to depend only on the ratio of the unknown parameters. An analysis is provided of the effect of estimating the ratio to enter the table for A2. This analysis enables the proposal of the complete operating procedure, which is sustained by a Monte Carlo study. 相似文献

This paper presents a simple and robust method for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of the joint period and radius distribution in Kepler exoplanets. The proposed method is based on particle swarm optimization and bivariate Normal Inverse Gaussian distribution. Furthermore, in the construction of the probability density function, this study selects planet-host stars with the GK-type. The injecting approach is also employed to solve the survey completeness of sample. The resulting occurrence rate of Earth analogs is 0.025 with a 95% bootstrap confidence interval between 0.023 and 0.032. 相似文献

The three-parameter inverse Gaussian distribution is defined and moment estimators and maximum likelihood estimators are obtained. The moment estimators are found in closed form and their asymprotic normality is proven. A sufficient condition is provided for the existence of the maximum likelihood estimators. 相似文献

Failure time models are considered when there is a subpopulation of individuals that is immune, or not susceptible, to an event of interest. Such models are of considerable interest in biostatistics. The most common approach is to postulate a proportion p of immunes or long-term survivors and to use a mixture model [5]. This paper introduces the defective inverse Gaussian model as a cure model and examines the use of the Gibbs sampler together with a data augmentation algorithm to study Bayesian inferences both for the cured fraction and the regression parameters. The results of the Bayesian and likelihood approaches are illustrated on two real data sets. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe score test and the GOF test for the inverse Gaussian distribution, in particular the latter, are known to have large size distortion and hence unreliable power when referring to the asymptotic critical values. We show in this paper that with the appropriately bootstrapped critical values, these tests become second-order accurate, with size distortion being essentially eliminated and power more reliable. Two major generalizations of the score test are made: one is to allow the data to be right-censored, and the other is to allow the existence of covariate effects. A data mapping method is introduced for the bootstrap to be able to produce censored data that are conformable with the null model. Monte Carlo results clearly favour the proposed bootstrap tests. Real data illustrations are given. 相似文献

This paper reviews current methods for fitting a range of models to censored seed germination data and recommends adoption of a probability‐based model for the time to germination. It shows that, provided the probability of a seed eventually germinating is not on the boundary, maximum likelihood estimates, their standard errors and the resultant deviances are identical whether only those seeds which have germinated are used or all seeds (including seeds ungerminated at the end of the experiment). The paper recommends analysis of deviance when exploring whether replicate data are consistent with a hypothesis that the underlying distributions are identical, and when assessing whether data from different treatments have underlying distributions with common parameters. The inverse normal distribution, otherwise known as the inverse Gaussian distribution, is discussed, as a natural distribution for the time to germination (including a parameter to measure the lag time to germination). The paper explores some of the properties of this distribution, evaluates the standard errors of the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters and suggests an accurate approximation to the cumulative distribution function and the median time to germination. In this paper a new distribution is proposed. This new model provides more flexibility to modeling data with upside-down bathtub hazard rate function. A significant account of mathematical properties of the new distribution is presented. The maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters in the presence of complete and censored data are presented. Two corrective approaches are considered to derive modified estimators that are bias-free to second order. A numerical simulation is carried out to examine the efficiency of the bias correction. Finally, an application using a real data set is presented in order to illustrate our proposed distribution. 相似文献

The inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is widely used to model data and then it is important to develop efficient goodness of fit tests for this distribution. In this article, we introduce some new test statistics for examining the IG goodness of fit based on correcting moments of nonparametric probability density functions of entropy estimators. These tests are consistent against all alternatives. Critical points and power of the tests are explored by simulation. We show that the proposed tests are more powerful than competitor tests. Finally, the proposed tests are illustrated by real data examples. 相似文献

The maximum likelihood estimators and moment estimators are derived for samples from the Gamma distribution in the presence of outliers. These estimators are compared empirically when all the three parameters are unknown and when one of the three parameters is known; their bias and mean square error (MSE) are investigated with the help of numerical technique. 相似文献

In this note we use the class of exponential power distributions to assess the robustness to non-normality of the test for outliers based on the maximum absolute studentized residual. We find that the significance levels can be quite markedly affected by even moderate departures from normality of the error distribution in a regression model when the sample size is moderately large. 相似文献

In this paper, we assume that the duration of a process has two different intrinsic components or phases which are independent. The first is the time it takes for a trade to be initiated in the market (for example, the time during which agents obtain knowledge about the market in which they are operating and accumulate information, which is coherent with Brownian motion) and the second is the subsequent time required for the trade to develop into a complete duration. Of course, if the first time is zero then the trade is initiated immediately and no initial knowledge is required. If we assume a specific compound Bernoulli distribution for the first time and an inverse Gaussian distribution for the second, the resulting convolution model has a mixture of an inverse Gaussian distribution with its reciprocal, which allows us to specify and test the unobserved heterogeneity in the autoregressive conditional duration (ACD) model.
Our proposals make it possible not only to capture various density shapes of the durations but also easily to accommodate the behaviour of the tail of the distribution and the non monotonic hazard function. The proposed model is easy to fit and characterizes the behaviour of the conditional durations reasonably well in terms of statistical criteria based on point and density forecasts. 相似文献

In this paper, we revisit the alternative outlier model of Thompson [A note on restricted maximum likelihood estimation with an alternative outlier model, J. Roy. Stat. Soc. Ser. B 47 (1985), pp. 53–55] for detecting outliers in the linear model. Gumedze et al. [A variance shift model for detection of outliers in the linear mixed model, Comput. Statist. Data Anal. 54 (2010), pp. 2128–2144] called this model the variance shift outlier model (VSOM). The basic idea behind the VSOM is to detect observations with inflated variance and isolate them for further investigation. The VSOM is appealing because it downweights an outlier in the analysis, with the weighting determined automatically as part of the estimation procedure. We set up the VSOM as a linear mixed model and then use the likelihood ratio test (LRT) statistic as an objective measure for determining whether the weighting is required, i.e. whether the observation is an outlier. We also derived one-step updates of the variance parameter estimates based on observed, expected and average information matrices to obtain one-step LRT statistics which usually require less computation. Both the fully iterated and one-step LRTs are functions of the squared standard residuals from the null model and therefore can be computed directly without the need to fit the VSOM. We investigated the properties of the likelihood ratio tests and compare them. An extension of the model to detect a group of outliers is also given. We illustrate the proposed methodology using simulated datasets and a real dataset. 相似文献

This paper provides the modified likelihood ratio criterion for testing whether the mean of the inverse Gaussian distribution can be set to unity giving rise to Standard form of the Wald distribution. Estimates of probability of correct selection has been obtained on the basis of a Monte Carlo study of 1,000 samples. Finally a set of adaptive estimators for the parameters are proposed and studied on the basis of data generated from the two distributions. 相似文献

Efficient score tests exist among others, for testing the presence of additive and/or innovative outliers that are the result of the shifted mean of the error process under the regression model. A sample influence function of autocorrelation-based diagnostic technique also exists for the detection of outliers that are the result of the shifted autocorrelations. The later diagnostic technique is however not useful if the outlying observation does not affect the autocorrelation structure but is generated due to an inflation in the variance of the error process under the regression model. In this paper, we develop a unified maximum studentized type test which is applicable for testing the additive and innovative outliers as well as variance shifted outliers that may or may not affect the autocorrelation structure of the outlier free time series observations. Since the computation of the p-values for the maximum studentized type test is not easy in general, we propose a Satterthwaite type approximation based on suitable doubly non-central F-distributions for finding such p-values [F.E. Satterthwaite, An approximate distribution of estimates of variance components, Biometrics 2 (1946), pp. 110–114]. The approximations are evaluated through a simulation study, for example, for the detection of additive and innovative outliers as well as variance shifted outliers that do not affect the autocorrelation structure of the outlier free time series observations. Some simulation results on model misspecification effects on outlier detection are also provided. 相似文献

Inverse Gaussian first hitting time regression models sometimes provide an attractive representation of lifetime data. Various authors comment that dependence of both parameters on the same covariate may imply multicollinearity. The frequent appearance of conflicting signs for the two coefficients of the same covariate may be related to this. We carry out simulation studies to examine the reality of this possible multicollinearity. Although there is some dependence between estimates, multicollinearity does not seem to be a major problem. Fitting this model to data generated by a Weibull regression suggests that conflicting signs of estimates may be due to model misspecification. 相似文献

The unknown or unobservable risk factors in the survival analysis cause heterogeneity between individuals. Frailty models are used in the survival analysis to account for the unobserved heterogeneity in individual risks to disease and death. To analyze the bivariate data on related survival times, the shared frailty models were suggested. The most common shared frailty model is a model in which frailty act multiplicatively on the hazard function. In this paper, we introduce the shared gamma frailty model and the inverse Gaussian frailty model with the reversed hazard rate. We introduce the Bayesian estimation procedure using Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique to estimate the parameters involved in the model. We present a simulation study to compare the true values of the parameters with the estimated values. We also apply the proposed models to the Australian twin data set and a better model is suggested. 相似文献
