In this paper, we consider the estimation of both the parameters and the nonparametric link function in partially linear single‐index models for longitudinal data that may be unbalanced. In particular, a new three‐stage approach is proposed to estimate the nonparametric link function using marginal kernel regression and the parametric components with generalized estimating equations. The resulting estimators properly account for the within‐subject correlation. We show that the parameter estimators are asymptotically semiparametrically efficient. We also show that the asymptotic variance of the link function estimator is minimized when the working error covariance matrices are correctly specified. The new estimators are more efficient than estimators in the existing literature. These asymptotic results are obtained without assuming normality. The finite‐sample performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation studies. In addition, two real‐data examples are analyzed to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

There are often situations where two or more regression functions are ordered over a range of covariate values. In this paper, we develop efficient constrained estimation and testing procedures for such models. Specifically, necessary and sufficient conditions for ordering generalized linear regressions are given and shown to unify previous results obtained for simple linear regression, for polynomial regression and in the analysis of covariance models. We show that estimating the parameters of ordered linear regressions requires either quadratic programming or semi‐infinite programming, depending on the shape of the covariate space. A distance‐type test for order is proposed. Simulations demonstrate that the proposed methodology improves the mean square error and power compared with the usual, unconstrained, estimation and testing procedures. Improvements are often substantial. The methodology is extended to order generalized linear models where convex semi‐infinite programming plays a role. The methodology is motivated by, and applied to, a hearing loss study.  相似文献

The quantile residual lifetime function provides comprehensive quantitative measures for residual life, especially when the distribution of the latter is skewed or heavy‐tailed and/or when the data contain outliers. In this paper, we propose a general class of semiparametric quantile residual life models for length‐biased right‐censored data. We use the inverse probability weighted method to correct the bias due to length‐biased sampling and informative censoring. Two estimating equations corresponding to the quantile regressions are constructed in two separate steps to obtain an efficient estimator. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are established. The main difficulty in implementing our proposed method is that the estimating equations associated with the quantiles are nondifferentiable, and we apply the majorize–minimize algorithm and estimate the asymptotic covariance using an efficient resampling method. We use simulation studies to evaluate the proposed method and illustrate its application by a real‐data example.  相似文献

The problem of dimension reduction in multiple regressions is investigated in this paper, in which data are from several populations that share the same variables. Assuming that the set of relevant predictors is the same across the regressions, a joint estimation and selection method is proposed, aiming to preserve the common structure, while allowing for population-specific characteristics. The new approach is based upon the relationship between sliced inverse regression and multiple linear regression, and is achieved through the lasso shrinkage penalty. A fast alternating algorithm is developed to solve the corresponding optimization problem. The performance of the proposed method is illustrated through simulated and real data examples.  相似文献

This paper considers residuals for time series regression. Despite much literature on visual diagnostics for uncorrelated data, there is little on the autocorrelated case. To examine various aspects of the fitted time series regression model, three residuals are considered. The fitted regression model can be checked using orthogonal residuals; the time series error model can be analysed using marginal residuals; and the white noise error component can be tested using conditional residuals. When used together, these residuals allow identification of outliers, model mis‐specification and mean shifts. Due to the sensitivity of conditional residuals to model mis‐specification, it is suggested that the orthogonal and marginal residuals be examined first.  相似文献

The use of logistic regression modeling has seen a great deal of attention in the literature in recent years. This includes all aspects of the logistic regression model including the identification of outliers. A variety of methods for the identification of outliers, such as the standardized Pearson residuals, are now available in the literature. These methods, however, are successful only if the data contain a single outlier. In the presence of multiple outliers in the data, which is often the case in practice, these methods fail to detect the outliers. This is due to the well-known problems of masking (false negative) and swamping (false positive) effects. In this article, we propose a new method for the identification of multiple outliers in logistic regression. We develop a generalized version of standardized Pearson residuals based on group deletion and then propose a technique for identifying multiple outliers. The performance of the proposed method is then investigated through several examples.  相似文献

Area‐level unmatched sampling and linking models have been widely used as a model‐based method for producing reliable estimates of small‐area means. However, one practical difficulty is the specification of a link function. In this paper, we relax the assumption of a known link function by not specifying its form and estimating it from the data. A penalized‐spline method is adopted for estimating the link function, and a hierarchical Bayes method of estimating area means is developed using a Markov chain Monte Carlo method for posterior computations. Results of simulation studies comparing the proposed method with a conventional approach based on a known link function are presented. In addition, the proposed method is applied to data from the Survey of Family Income and Expenditure in Japan and poverty rates in Spanish provinces.  相似文献

The “semicompeting risks” include a terminal event and a non-terminal event. The terminal event may censor the non-terminal event but not vice versa. Because times to the two events are usually correlated, the non-terminal event is subject to dependent/informative censoring by the terminal event. We seek to conduct marginal regressions and joint association analyses for the two event times under semicompeting risks. The proposed method is based on the modeling setup where the semiparametric transformation models are assumed for marginal regressions, and a copula model is assumed for the joint distribution. We propose a nonparametric maximum likelihood approach for inferences, which provides a martingale representation for the score function and an analytical expression for the information matrix. Direct theoretical developments and computational implementation are allowed for the proposed approach. Simulations and a real data application demonstrate the utility of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

In this paper, new statistical tests for the censored two-sample accelerated life model are discussed. From the estimating functions using integrated cumulative hazard difference, stochastic processes are constructed. They can be described by martingale residuals, and, given the data, conditional distributions can be approximated by zero mean Gaussian processes. The new methods, based on these processes, provide asymptotically consistent tests against a general departure from the model. A graphical method is also discussed. In various numerical studies, the new tests performed better than the existing method, especially when the hazard curves cross. The proposed procedures are illustrated with two real data sets.  相似文献

Odds ratios are frequently used to describe the relationship between a binary treatment or exposure and a binary outcome. An odds ratio can be interpreted as a causal effect or a measure of association, depending on whether it involves potential outcomes or the actual outcome. An odds ratio can also be characterized as marginal versus conditional, depending on whether it involves conditioning on covariates. This article proposes a method for estimating a marginal causal odds ratio subject to confounding. The proposed method is based on a logistic regression model relating the outcome to the treatment indicator and potential confounders. Simulation results show that the proposed method performs reasonably well in moderate-sized samples and may even offer an efficiency gain over the direct method based on the sample odds ratio in the absence of confounding. The method is illustrated with a real example concerning coronary heart disease.  相似文献

Abstract

A method for obtaining bootstrapping replicates for one-dimensional point processes is presented. The method involves estimating the conditional intensity of the process and computing residuals. The residuals are bootstrapped using a block bootstrap and used, together with the conditional intensity, to define the bootstrap realizations. The method is applied to the estimation of the cross-intensity function for data arising from a reaction time experiment.  相似文献

A local likelihood method with constraints is developed for the case-control sample for estimating the unknown relative risk function and odds ratio. Our estimates can be reduced to simply solving two systems of estimating equations. One system of estimating equations is for estimating the relative risk function, and is identical to that based on the locally weighted logistic regression analysis under prospective sampling. Another system of estimating equations is for estimating the odds ratio, and is identical to that used in the traditional linear logistic regression analysis. Asymptotic properties of the estimators are presented. Two real examples and simulations are given to illustrate our method. The results confirm that our approach is useful for estimating the relative risk function and odds ratio in case-control studies.  相似文献

In this article, a new class of variance function estimators is proposed in the setting of heteroscedastic nonparametric regression models. To obtain a variance function estimator, the main proposal is to smooth the product of the response variable and residuals as opposed to the squared residuals. The asymptotic properties of the proposed methodology are investigated in order to compare its asymptotic behavior with that of the existing methods. The finite sample performance of the proposed estimator is studied through simulation studies. The effect of the curvature of the mean function on its finite sample behavior is also discussed.  相似文献

Summary.  We introduce a flexible marginal modelling approach for statistical inference for clustered and longitudinal data under minimal assumptions. This estimated estimating equations approach is semiparametric and the proposed models are fitted by quasi-likelihood regression, where the unknown marginal means are a function of the fixed effects linear predictor with unknown smooth link, and variance–covariance is an unknown smooth function of the marginal means. We propose to estimate the nonparametric link and variance–covariance functions via smoothing methods, whereas the regression parameters are obtained via the estimated estimating equations. These are score equations that contain nonparametric function estimates. The proposed estimated estimating equations approach is motivated by its flexibility and easy implementation. Moreover, if data follow a generalized linear mixed model, with either a specified or an unspecified distribution of random effects and link function, the model proposed emerges as the corresponding marginal (population-average) version and can be used to obtain inference for the fixed effects in the underlying generalized linear mixed model, without the need to specify any other components of this generalized linear mixed model. Among marginal models, the estimated estimating equations approach provides a flexible alternative to modelling with generalized estimating equations. Applications of estimated estimating equations include diagnostics and link selection. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed estimators for the model parameters is derived, enabling statistical inference. Practical illustrations include Poisson modelling of repeated epileptic seizure counts and simulations for clustered binomial responses.  相似文献

This paper deals with the regression analysis of failure time data when there are censoring and multiple types of failures. We propose a semiparametric generalization of a parametric mixture model of Larson & Dinse (1985), for which the marginal probabilities of the various failure types are logistic functions of the covariates. Given the type of failure, the conditional distribution of the time to failure follows a proportional hazards model. A marginal like lihood approach to estimating regression parameters is suggested, whereby the baseline hazard functions are eliminated as nuisance parameters. The Monte Carlo method is used to approximate the marginal likelihood; the resulting function is maximized easily using existing software. Some guidelines for choosing the number of Monte Carlo replications are given. Fixing the regression parameters at their estimated values, the full likelihood is maximized via an EM algorithm to estimate the baseline survivor functions. The methods suggested are illustrated using the Stanford heart transplant data.  相似文献

We consider estimating functions for discretely observed diffusion processes of the following type: for one part of the parameter of interest we propose to use a simple and explicit estimating function of the type studied by Kessler (2000); for the remaining part of the parameter we use a martingale estimating function. Such an approach is particularly useful in practical applications when the parameter is high-dimensional. It is also often necessary to supplement a simple estimating function by another type of estimating function because only the part of the parameter on which the invariant measure depends can be estimated by a simple estimating function. Under regularity conditions the resulting estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal. Several examples are considered in order to demonstrate the idea of the estimating procedure. The method is applied to two data sets comprising wind velocities and stock prices. In one example we also propose a general method for constructing diffusion models with a prescribed marginal distribution which have a flexible dependence structure.  相似文献

Sliced average variance estimation is one of many methods for estimating the central subspace. It was shown to be more comprehensive than sliced inverse regression in the sense that it consistently estimates the central subspace under mild conditions while slice inverse regression may estimate only a proper subset of the central subspace. In this paper we extend this method to regressions with qualitative predictors. We also provide tests of dimension and a marginal coordinate hypothesis test. We apply the method to a data set concerning lakes infested by Eurasian Watermilfoil, and compare this new method to the partial inverse regression estimator.  相似文献

When the unobservable Markov chain in a hidden Markov model is stationary the marginal distribution of the observations is a finite mixture with the number of terms equal to the number of the states of the Markov chain. This suggests the number of states of the unobservable Markov chain can be estimated by determining the number of mixture components in the marginal distribution. This paper presents new methods for estimating the number of states in a hidden Markov model, and coincidentally the unknown number of components in a finite mixture, based on penalized quasi‐likelihood and generalized quasi‐likelihood ratio methods constructed from the marginal distribution. The procedures advocated are simple to calculate, and results obtained in empirical applications indicate that they are as effective as current available methods based on the full likelihood. Under fairly general regularity conditions, the methods proposed generate strongly consistent estimates of the unknown number of states or components.  相似文献

In this paper a new generalized least squares procedure for estimating VARMA models is proposed. This method differs from existing ones in explicitly considering the stochastic structure of the approximation error that arises when lagged innovations are replaced with lagged residuals obtained from a long VAR. Simulation results indicate that this method performs better than the Double Regression method and similar to Mauricio's (1995) exact maximum likelihood estimation procedure.  相似文献

Recurrent events are frequently encountered in biomedical studies. Evaluating the covariates effects on the marginal recurrent event rate is of practical interest. There are mainly two types of rate models for the recurrent event data: the multiplicative rates model and the additive rates model. We consider a more flexible additive–multiplicative rates model for analysis of recurrent event data, wherein some covariate effects are additive while others are multiplicative. We formulate estimating equations for estimating the regression parameters. The estimators for these regression parameters are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed under appropriate regularity conditions. Moreover, the estimator of the baseline mean function is proposed and its large sample properties are investigated. We also conduct simulation studies to evaluate the finite sample behavior of the proposed estimators. A medical study of patients with cystic fibrosis suffered from recurrent pulmonary exacerbations is provided for illustration of the proposed method.  相似文献
