The Nu Women

In the northwest of Yunnan Province lies an area of 14,703 square kilometers called Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, which is inhabited by an ethnic group unique to Yunnan—the Nu ethnicity. The Nu people are the most ancient settlers and the earliest pioneers of the region. With a population of 27, 123(13,000 females), the Nu are among the smallest of China's 55 ethnic groups. The Nu live in a mountainous area filled with sloping hills and steep cliffs. The roaring Nujiang River and Lacangjiang River separate the Nu from the outside world. Gauze Dress and a Mummy

Silkworm raising and silk reeling is a great contribution of ancient Chinese women to the world civilization and progress. When the Silk Road opened in the Hah Dynasty more than 2,000 years ago, westerners used to call China the Kingdom of Silk. The gauze dress unearthed from the Mawangdui No. 1 Tomb of the Han Dynasty in Hunan's Changsha, is as thin as cicada's wings and only weighs 49 grams. CCTF, Nestle Team Up to Improve Health of Newborns, Women
The China Children and Teenagers＇ Foundation （CCTF）, on April 22, 2014, received a donation of 30 million yuan （US $4.9 million） from Nestl6 China to fund a project aimed at improving the health of women and newborns in China. The donation was made in Beijing. The project, entitled ＂1,000 Days Action for Newborn and Maternal Health,＂ is intended to raise public awareness of the significance of the 1,000 days from conception to a child＇s second birthday, through various types of publicity and training. It is also intended to improve the nutrition of newborns and their mothers.

Brief Introduction to the China Organizing Committee for the Fourth World Conference on Women

On January 28, 1991, the Chinese Government wrote to the United Nations, offering to host the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women. In March 1992, the 36th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women gratefully accepted the invitation of the Chinese government and decided to schedule the conference for September 4-15, 1995, in Beijing. The theme of the conference is to seek equality, development and peace through action. The secondary subjects include issues of employment, education and health. At that time, all the member countries of the United Nations will send the high-level gorernmental delegation to attend the conference. Meanwhile, the Non-Government Organizations Forum will be held as a subsidiary plenary to the conference.
