For the sign testing problem about the normal variances, we develop the heuristic testing procedure based on the concept of generalized test variable and generalized p-value. A detailed simulation study is conducted to empirically investigate the performance of the proposed method. Through the simulation study, especially in small sample sizes, the proposed test not only adequately controls empirical size at the nominal level, but also uniformly more powerful than likelihood ratio test, Gutmann's test, Li and Sinha's test and Liu and Chan's test, showing that the proposed method can be recommended in practice. The proposed method is illustrated with the published data.  相似文献

We study the invariance properties of various test criteria which have been proposed for hypothesis testing in the context of incompletely specified models, such as models which are formulated in terms of estimating functions (Godambe, 1960) or moment conditions and are estimated by generalized method of moments (GMM) procedures (Hansen, 1982), and models estimated by pseudo-likelihood (Gouriéroux, Monfort, and Trognon, 1984b,c) and M-estimation methods. The invariance properties considered include invariance to (possibly nonlinear) hypothesis reformulations and reparameterizations. The test statistics examined include Wald-type, LR-type, LM-type, score-type, and C(α)?type criteria. Extending the approach used in Dagenais and Dufour (1991), we show first that all these test statistics except the Wald-type ones are invariant to equivalent hypothesis reformulations (under usual regularity conditions), but all five of them are not generally invariant to model reparameterizations, including measurement unit changes in nonlinear models. In other words, testing two equivalent hypotheses in the context of equivalent models may lead to completely different inferences. For example, this may occur after an apparently innocuous rescaling of some model variables. Then, in view of avoiding such undesirable properties, we study restrictions that can be imposed on the objective functions used for pseudo-likelihood (or M-estimation) as well as the structure of the test criteria used with estimating functions and generalized method of moments (GMM) procedures to obtain invariant tests. In particular, we show that using linear exponential pseudo-likelihood functions allows one to obtain invariant score-type and C(α)?type test criteria, while in the context of estimating function (or GMM) procedures it is possible to modify a LR-type statistic proposed by Newey and West (1987) to obtain a test statistic that is invariant to general reparameterizations. The invariance associated with linear exponential pseudo-likelihood functions is interpreted as a strong argument for using such pseudo-likelihood functions in empirical work.  相似文献

A new generalized p-value method is proposed for testing the equality of coefficients of variation in k normal populations. Simulation studies show that the type I error probabilities are close to the nominal level. The proposed test is also compared with likelihood ratio test, modified Bennett's test and score test through Monte Carlo simulation, the results demonstrate that the generalized p-value method has satisfactory performance in terms of sizes and powers.  相似文献

Qiu and Sheng has proposed a powerful and robust two-stage procedure to compare two hazard rate functions. In this paper we improve their method by using the Fisher test to combine the asymptotically independent p-values obtained from the two stages of their procedure. In addition, we extend the procedure to situations with multiple hazard rate functions. Our comprehensive simulation study shows that the proposed method has a good performance in terms of controlling the type I error rate and of detecting power. Three real data applications are considered for illustrating the use of the new method.  相似文献

Many procedures exist for testing equality of means or medians to compare several independent distributions. However, the mean or median do not determine the entire distribution. In this article, we propose a new small-sample modification of the likelihood ratio test for testing the equality of the quantiles of several normal distributions. The merits of the proposed test are numerically compared with the existing tests—a generalized p-value method and likelihood ratio test—with respect to their sizes and powers. The simulation results demonstrate that proposed method is satisfactory; its actual size is very close to the nominal level. We illustrate these approaches using two real examples.  相似文献

Often in practice one is interested in the situation where the lifetime data are censored. Censorship is a common phenomenon frequently encountered when analyzing lifetime data due to time constraints. In this paper, the flexible Weibull distribution proposed in Bebbington et al. [A flexible Weibull extension, Reliab. Eng. Syst. Safety 92 (2007), pp. 719–726] is studied using maximum likelihood technics based on three different algorithms: Newton Raphson, Levenberg Marquardt and Trust Region reflective. The proposed parameter estimation method is introduced and proved to work from theoretical and practical point of view. On one hand, we apply a maximum likelihood estimation method using complete simulated and real data. On the other hand, we study for the first time the model using simulated and real data for type I censored samples. The estimation results are approved by a statistical test.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new estimator of entropy of a continuous random variable. We compare the proposed estimator with the existing estimators, namely, Vasicek [A test for normality based on sample entropy, J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 38 (1976), pp. 54–59], van Es [Estimating functionals related to a density by class of statistics based on spacings, Scand. J. Statist. 19 (1992), pp. 61–72], Correa [A new estimator of entropy, Commun. Statist. Theory and Methods 24 (1995), pp. 2439–2449] and Wieczorkowski-Grzegorewski [Entropy estimators improvements and comparisons, Commun. Statist. Simulation and Computation 28 (1999), pp. 541–567]. We next introduce a new test for normality. By simulation, the powers of the proposed test under various alternatives are compared with normality tests proposed by Vasicek (1976) and Esteban et al. Many methods based on ranked set sampling (RSS) assume perfect ranking of the samples. Here, by using the data measured by a balanced RSS scheme, we propose a nonparametric test for the assumption of perfect ranking. The test statistic that we use formally corresponds to the Jonckheere-Terpstra-type test statistic. We show formal relations of the proposed test for perfect ranking to other methods proposed recently in the literature. Through an empirical power study, we demonstrate that the proposed method performs favorably compared to many of its competitors.  相似文献

In this article, procedures are proposed to test the hypothesis of equality of two or more regression functions. Tests are proposed by p-values, first under homoscedastic regression model, which are derived using fiducial method based on cubic spline interpolation. Then, we construct a test in the heteroscedastic case based on Fisher's method of combining independent tests. We study the behaviors of the tests by simulation experiments, in which comparisons with other tests are also given. The proposed tests have good performances. Finally, an application to a data set are given to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed test in practice.  相似文献

In ophthalmologic or otolaryngologic study, each subject may contribute paired organs measurements to the analysis. A number of statistical methods have been proposed on bilateral correlated data. In practice, it is important to detect confounding effect by treatment interaction, since ignoring confounding effect may lead to unreliable conclusion. Therefore, stratified data analysis can be considered to adjust the effect of confounder on statistical inference. In this article, we investigate and derive three test procedures for testing homogeneity of difference of two proportions for stratified correlated paired binary data in the basis of equal correlation model assumption. The performance of proposed test procedures is examined through Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation results show that the Score test is usually robust on type I error control with high power, and therefore is recommended among the three methods. One example from otolaryngologic study is given to illustrate the three test procedures.  相似文献

This article builds on the test proposed by Lyhagen [The seasonal KPSS statistic, Econom. Bull. 3 (2006), pp. 1–9] for seasonal time series and having the null hypothesis of level stationarity against the alternative of unit root behaviour at some or all of the zero and seasonal frequencies. This new test is qualified as seasonal-frequency Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS) test and it is not originally supported by a regression framework.

The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we propose a model-based regression method and provide a clear illustration of Lyhagen's test and we establish its asymptotic theory in the time domain. Secondly, we use the Monte Carlo method to study the finite-sample performance of the seasonal KPSS test in the presence of additive outliers. Our simulation analysis shows that this test is robust to the magnitude and the number of outliers and the statistical results obtained cast an overall good performance of the test finite-sample properties.  相似文献

In this article, we present a test for testing uniformity. Based on the test, we provide a test for testing exponentiality. Empirical critical values for both the tests are computed. Both the tests are compared with the tests proposed by Noughabi and Arghami [H. Alizadeh Noughabi, and N.R. Arghami, Testing exponentiality using transformed data, J. Statist. Comput. Simul. 81 (4) (2011), pp. 511–516] using simulation experiments for a wide class of alternatives. The tests possess attractive power properties.  相似文献

A cluster methodology, motivated by a robust similarity matrix is proposed for identifying likely multivariate outlier structure and to estimate weighted least-square (WLS) regression parameters in linear models. The proposed method is an agglomeration of procedures that begins from clustering the n-observations through a test of ‘no-outlier hypothesis’ (TONH) to a weighted least-square regression estimation. The cluster phase partition the n-observations into h-set called main cluster and a minor cluster of size n?h. A robust distance emerge from the main cluster upon which a test of no outlier hypothesis’ is conducted. An initial WLS regression estimation is computed from the robust distance obtained from the main cluster. Until convergence, a re-weighted least-squares (RLS) regression estimate is updated with weights based on the normalized residuals. The proposed procedure blends an agglomerative hierarchical cluster analysis of a complete linkage through the TONH to the Re-weighted regression estimation phase. Hence, we propose to call it cluster-based re-weighted regression (CBRR). The CBRR is compared with three existing procedures using two data sets known to exhibit masking and swamping. The performance of CBRR is further examined through simulation experiment. The results obtained from the data set illustration and the Monte Carlo study shows that the CBRR is effective in detecting multivariate outliers where other methods are susceptible to it. The CBRR does not require enormous computation and is substantially not susceptible to masking and swamping.  相似文献

In this article, we examine the limiting behavior of generalized method of moments (GMM) sample moment conditions and point out an important discontinuity that arises in their asymptotic distribution. We show that the part of the scaled sample moment conditions that gives rise to degeneracy in the asymptotic normal distribution is T-consistent and has a nonstandard limiting distribution. We derive the appropriate asymptotic (weighted chi-squared) distribution when this degeneracy occurs and show how to conduct asymptotically valid statistical inference. We also propose a new rank test that provides guidance on which (standard or nonstandard) asymptotic framework should be used for inference. The finite-sample properties of the proposed asymptotic approximation are demonstrated using simulated data from some popular asset pricing models.  相似文献

This paper introduces a modified one-sample test of goodness-of-fit based on the cumulative distribution function. Damico [A new one-sample test for goodness-of-fit. Commun Stat – Theory Methods. 2004;33:181–193] proposed a test for testing goodness-of-fit of univariate distribution that uses the concept of partitioning the probability range into n intervals of equal probability mass 1/n and verifies that the hypothesized distribution evaluated at the observed data would place one case into each interval. The present paper extends this notion by allowing for m intervals of probability mass r/n, where r≥1 and n=m×r. A simulation study for small and moderate sample sizes demonstrates that the proposed test for two observations per interval under various alternatives is more powerful than the test proposed by Damico (2004).  相似文献

A combination of a smooth test statistic and (an approximate) Schwarz's selection rule has been proposed by Inglot, T., Kallenberg, W. C. M. and Ledwina, T. ((1997). Data-driven smooth tests for composite hypotheses. Ann. Statist. 25, 1222–1250) as a solution of a standard goodness-of-fit problem when nuisance parameters are present. In the present paper we modify the above solution in the sense that we propose another analogue of Schwarz's rule and rederive properties of it and the resulting test statistic. To avoid technicalities we restrict our attention to location-scale family and method of moments estimators of its parameters. In a parallel paper [Janic-Wróblewska, A. (2004). Recently, Sanjel and Balakrishnan [A Laguerre Polynomial Approximation for a goodness-of-fit test for exponential distribution based on progressively censored data, J. Stat. Comput. Simul. 78 (2008), pp. 503–513] proposed the use of Laguerre orthogonal polynomials for a goodness-of-fit test for the exponential distribution based on progressively censored data. In this paper, we use Jacobi and Laguerre orthogonal polynomials in order to obtain density approximants for some test statistics useful in testing for outliers in gamma and exponential samples. We first obtain the exact moments of the statistics and then the density approximants, based on these moments, are expressed in terms of Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials. A comparative study is carried out of the critical values obtained by using the proposed methods to the corresponding results given by Barnett and Lewis [Outliers in Statistical Data, 3rd ed., John Wiley & Sons, New York, 1993]. This reveals that the proposed techniques provide very accurate approximations to the distributions. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the proposed approximations. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that the proposed approximate densities are very accurate.  相似文献

In the last few years, two adaptive tests for paired data have been proposed. One test proposed by Freidlin et al. [On the use of the Shapiro–Wilk test in two-stage adaptive inference for paired data from moderate to very heavy tailed distributions, Biom. J. 45 (2003), pp. 887–900] is a two-stage procedure that uses a selection statistic to determine which of three rank scores to use in the computation of the test statistic. Another statistic, proposed by O'Gorman [Applied Adaptive Statistical Methods: Tests of Significance and Confidence Intervals, Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Philadelphia, 2004], uses a weighted t-test with the weights determined by the data. These two methods, and an earlier rank-based adaptive test proposed by Randles and Hogg [Adaptive Distribution-free Tests, Commun. Stat. 2 (1973), pp. 337–356], are compared with the t-test and to Wilcoxon's signed-rank test. For sample sizes between 15 and 50, the results show that the adaptive test proposed by Freidlin et al. and the adaptive test proposed by O'Gorman have higher power than the other tests over a range of moderate to long-tailed symmetric distributions. The results also show that the test proposed by O'Gorman has greater power than the other tests for short-tailed distributions. For sample sizes greater than 50 and for small sample sizes the adaptive test proposed by O'Gorman has the highest power for most distributions.  相似文献
