In this paper, we introduce a general goodness of fit test based on Phi-divergence. Consistency of the proposed test is established. We then study some special cases of tests for normal, exponential, uniform and Laplace distributions. Through Monte Carlo simulations, the power values of the proposed tests are compared with some known competing tests under various alternatives. Finally, some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed procedure.  相似文献

In this article, a technique based on the sample correlation coefficient to construct goodness-of-fit tests for max-stable distributions with unknown location and scale parameters and finite second moment is proposed. Specific details to test for the Gumbel distribution are given, including critical values for small sample sizes as well as approximate critical values for larger sample sizes by using normal quantiles. A comparison by Monte Carlo simulation shows that the proposed test for the Gumbel hypothesis is substantially more powerful than some other known tests against some alternative distributions with positive skewness coefficient.  相似文献

Four nonparametric test statistics for the change-point problem with repeated measures data are proposed. In a Monte Carlo simulation study, critical values for the proposed test statistics are simulated and the performances of the proposed tests are compared with the performances of some competitive tests in terms of asymptotic behavior and power. We provide appropriate recommendations for different occurrences of the change-point and illustrate the testing methods using a set of real data.  相似文献

In this work two goodness-of-fit tests are proposed for the skew normal distribution, based on properties of this family of distributions and the sample correlation coefficient. The critical values for the tests are obtained by using Monte Carlo simulation for several sample sizes and levels of significance. The power of the proposed tests are compared with that of the tests studied by Mateu et al. (2007) and the one studied by Meintanis (2007) for several sample sizes and considering diverse alternatives. The results show that the proposed tests have greater power than those studied by Mateu et al. (2007) and Meintanis (2007) against some alternative distributions.  相似文献

In the context of time-sequential studies, progressively censored tests for a simple regression model based on weighted empirical distributions are considered for ungrouped as well as grouped data situations. Early decision rules based on such tests are formulated. The asymptotic theory of the proposed tests rests on a construction of suitable empirical processes and their convergence (in distribution) to appropriate Gaussian functions. Critical values of the proposed test statistics are obtained by simulation, For a hypothetical example (of practical interest), a comparative study is made for the empirical powers and stopping times for some rival tests.  相似文献

In this article, the general test statistic introduced by Alizadeh Noughabi and Balakrishnan [Goodness of fit using a new estimate of Kullback-Leibler information based on Type II censored data. IEEE Trans Reliab. 2015;64:627–635.] is applied for testing goodness of fit of lifetime distributions based on Type II censored data. The test statistic is constructed based on an estimate of Kullback–Leibler (KL) information. We investigate the properties of the proposed test statistic such as the test statistic is nonnegative, just like KL information. We apply this test statistic to following distributions: Exponential, Weibull, Log-normal and Pareto. The critical values and Type I error of the proposed tests are obtained. It is shown that the proposed tests have an excellent Type I error and hence can be used confidently in practice. Then, by Monte Carlo simulations, the power values of the proposed tests are computed against several alternatives and compared with those of the existing tests. Finally, some real-world reliability data are used for illustrative purpose.  相似文献

In this article, we propose some tests of fit based on sample entropy for the composite Gumbel (Extreme Value) hypothesis. The proposed test statistics are constructed using different entropy estimates. Through a Monte Carlo simulation, critical values of the test statistics for various sample sizes are obtained. Since the tests based on the empirical distribution function (EDF) are commonly used in practice, the power values of the entropy-based tests with those of the EDF tests are compared against various alternatives and different sample sizes. Finally, two real data sets are modeled by the Gumbel distribution.KEYWORDS: Entropy estimator, Gumbel distribution, Monte Carlo simulation, test power  相似文献

In this article, a new consistent estimator of Veram’s entropy is introduced. We establish the entropy test based on the new information namely Verma Kullback–Leibler discrimination methodology. The results are used to introduce goodness-of-fit tests for normal and exponential distributions. The root of mean square errors, critical values, and powers for some alternatives are obtained by simulation. The proposed test is compared with other tests.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the entropy estimator introduced by Alizadeh Noughabi and Arghami (2010) and derive the nonparametric distribution function corresponding to our estimator as a piece-wise uniform distribution. We use the results to introduce goodness-of-fit tests for the normal and the exponential distributions. The critical values and powers for some alternatives are obtained by simulation. The powers of the proposed tests under various alternatives are compared with the competitors.  相似文献

In this paper, a goodness-of-fit test is proposed for the Rayleigh distribution. This test is based on the Kullback–Leibler discrimination methodology proposed by Song [2002, Goodness of fit tests based on Kullback–Leibler discrimination, IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 48(5), pp. 1103–1117]. The critical values and powers for some alternatives are obtained by simulation. The proposed test is compared with other tests, namely Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Kuiper, Cramer–von Mises, Watson and Anderson–Darling. The use of the proposed test is shown in a real example.  相似文献

A test is proposed which requires a better fit in the extremes of a distribution than the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for H0. not to be rejected. Critical values are calculated for sample sizes up to 100, and approximate critical values are found for larger samples. The power of the test is obtained for a number of distributions, and it is shown that the test is more powerful than some existing tests for a wide range of cases  相似文献

In this article, two different types of precedence tests, each with two different test statistics, based on ranked set samples for testing the equality of two distributions are discussed. The exact null distributions of proposed test statistics are derived, critical values are tabulated for both set size and number of cycles up to 8, and the exact power functions of these two types of precedence tests under the Lehmann alternative are derived. Then, the power values of these two test procedures and their competitors based on simple random samples and based on ranked set samples are compared under the Lehmann alternative exactly and also under a location-shift alternative by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, the impact of imperfect ranking is discussed and some concluding remarks are presented.  相似文献

The problem of testing homogeneity of several group means is considered against some patterned alternatives for the one-way classified data. The patterns of interest include the simple-tree and the trend alternatives. The approach is to begin with some suitably defined one-sample confidence intervals for the groups in a graphical display. Depending on the pattern of interest, orientation features of the display are examined, more formally, using proposed overall tests or rules. In the classical setup under normality, the case of known common variance is treated in detail; extensions to the case of unknown variance are indicated. When normality is in doubt, a nonparametric procedure based on the sign test is proposed. The necessary critical values are percentiles of either a multivariate normal distribution or a multivariate t-distribution. Although some existing tables can be used for the critical values (or the P-values) in some special cases, in general, the use of simulations is recommended and the steps are detailed in the appendix. An illustrative numerical example is provided.  相似文献

The Rayleigh distribution has been used to model right skewed data. Rayleigh [On the resultant of a large number of vibrations of the some pitch and of arbitrary phase. Philos Mag. 1880;10:73–78] derived it from the amplitude of sound resulting from many important sources. In this paper, a new goodness-of-fit test for the Rayleigh distribution is proposed. This test is based on the empirical likelihood ratio methodology proposed by Vexler and Gurevich [Empirical likelihood ratios applied to goodness-of-fit tests based on sample entropy. Comput Stat Data Anal. 2010;54:531–545]. Consistency of the proposed test is derived. It is shown that the distribution of the proposed test does not depend on scale parameter. Critical values of the test statistic are computed, through a simulation study. A Monte Carlo study for the power of the proposed test is carried out under various alternatives. The performance of the test is compared with some well-known competing tests. Finally, an illustrative example is presented and analysed.  相似文献

In this article, we point out some interesting relations between the exact test and the score test for a binomial proportion p. Based on the properties of the tests, we propose some approximate as well as exact methods of computing sample sizes required for the tests to attain a specified power. Sample sizes required for the tests are tabulated for various values of p to attain a power of 0.80 at level 0.05. We also propose approximate and exact methods of computing sample sizes needed to construct confidence intervals with a given precision. Using the proposed exact methods, sample sizes required to construct 95% confidence intervals with various precisions are tabulated for p = .05(.05).5. The approximate methods for computing sample sizes for score confidence intervals are very satisfactory and the results coincide with those of the exact methods for many cases.  相似文献

This article discusses the problem of testing the equality of two nonparametric regression functions against two-sided alternatives for uniform design on [0,1] with long memory moving average errors. The standard deviations and the long memory parameters are possibly different for the two errors. The article adapts the partial sum process idea used in the independent observations settings to construct the tests and derives their asymptotic null distributions. The article also shows that these tests are consistent for general alternatives and obtains their limiting distributions under a sequence of local alternatives. Since the limiting null distributions of these tests are unknown, we first conducted a Monte Carlo simulation study to obtain a few selected critical values of the proposed tests. Then based on these critical values, another Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to study the finite sample level and power behavior of these tests at some alternatives. The article also contains a simulation study that assesses the effect of estimating the nonparametric regression function on an estimate of the long memory parameter of the errors. It is observed that the estimate based on direct observations is generally preferable over the one based on the estimated nonparametric residuals.  相似文献

Many applications of the Inverse Gaussian distribution, including numerous reliability and life testing results are presented in statistical literature. The paper studies the problem of using entropy tests to examine the goodness of fit of an Inverse Gaussian distribution with unknown parameters. Some entropy tests based on different entropy estimates are proposed. Critical values of the test statistics for various sample sizes are obtained by Monte Carlo simulations. Type I error of the tests is investigated and then power values of the tests are compared with the competing tests against various alternatives. Finally, recommendations for the application of the tests in practice are presented.  相似文献

Results from a power study of six statistics for testing that a sample is from a uniform distribution on the unit interval (0,1) are reported. The test statistics are all well-known and each of them was originally proposed because they should have high power against some alternative distributions. The tests considered are the Pearson probability product test, the Neyman smooth test, the Sukhatme test, the Durbin-Kolmogorov test, the Kuiper test, and the Sherman test. Results are given for each of these tests against each of four classes of alternatives. Also, the most powerful test against each member of the first three alternatives is obtained, and the powers of these tests are given for the same sample sizes as for the six general "omnibus" test statistics. These values constitute a "power envelope" against which all tests can be compared. The Neyman smooth tests with 2nd and 4th degree polynomials are found to have good power and are recommended as general tests for uniformity.  相似文献

We consider multiple comparison test procedures among treatment effects in a randomized block design. We propose closed testing procedures based on maximum values of some two-sample t test statistics and based on F test statistics. It is shown that the proposed procedures are more powerful than single-step procedures and the REGW (Ryan/Einot–Gabriel/Welsch)-type tests. Next, we consider the randomized block design under simple ordered restrictions of treatment effects. We propose closed testing procedures based on maximum values of two-sample one-sided t test statistics and based on Batholomew’s statistics for all pairwise comparisons of treatment effects. Although single-step multiple comparison procedures are utilized in general, the power of these procedures is low for a large number of groups. The closed testing procedures stated in the present article are more powerful than the single-step procedures. Simulation studies are performed under the null hypothesis and some alternative hypotheses. In this studies, the proposed procedures show a good performance.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a precedence-type test based on Kaplan–Meier estimator of cumulative distribution function (CDF) for testing the hypothesis that two distribution functions are equal against a stochastically ordered hypothesis. This test is an alternative to the precedence life-test proposed first by Nelson (1963). After deriving the null distribution of the test statistic, we present its exact power function under the Lehmann alternative, and compare the exact power as well as simulated power (under location-shift) of the proposed test with other precedence-type tests. Next, we extend this test to the case of progressively Type-II censored data. Critical values for some combination of sample sizes and progressive censoring schemes are presented. We then examine the power properties of this test procedure and compare them to those of the weighted precedence and weighted maximal precedence tests under a location-shift alternative by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we present two examples to illustrate all the test procedures discussed here, and then make some concluding remarks.  相似文献
