Researches propose various methods for comparing the means of two log-normal distributions. Some of these methods have been recently extended to test the equality means of several log-normal populations. Investigations show that none of the established methods is satisfactory. In this article, we provide three methods based on the computational approach test, which is a parametric bootstrap approach, for testing the means of several log-normal distributions. Further, we compare our methods with the existing methods through Monte Carlo simulation. The numerical results show that the Type I errors of these procedures are satisfactory regardless of the sample size, number of populations, and the true parameters. Finally, we explain the considered methods by real examples.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a novel approach for testing the equality of two log-normal populations using a computational approach test (CAT) that does not require explicit knowledge of the sampling distribution of the test statistic. Simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed approach can perform hypothesis testing with satisfying actual size even at small sample sizes. Overall, it is superior to other existing methods. Also, a CAT is proposed for testing about reliability of two log-normal populations when the means are the same. Simulations show that the actual size of this new approach is close to nominal level and better than the score test. At the end, the proposed methods are illustrated using two examples.  相似文献

Among statistical inferences, one of the main interests is drawing the inferences about the log-normal means since the log-normal distribution is a well-known candidate model for analyzing positive and right-skewed data. In the past, the researchers only focused on one or two log-normal populations or used the large sample theory or quadratic procedure to deal with several log-normal distributions. In this article, we focus on making inferences on several log-normal means based on the modification of the quadratic method, in which the researchers often used the vector of the generalized variables to deal with the means of the symmetric distributions. Simulation studies show that the quadratic method performs well only for symmetric distributions. However, the modified procedure fits both symmetric and skew distribution. The numerical results show that the proposed modified procedure can provide the confidence interval with coverage probabilities close to the nominal level and the hypothesis testing performed with satisfactory results.  相似文献

In this study, we develop a test based on computational approach for the equality of variances of several normal populations. The proposed method is numerically compared with the existing methods. The numeric results demonstrate that the proposed method performs very well in terms of type I error rate and power of test. Furthermore we study the robustness of the tests by using simulation study when the underlying data are from t, exponential and uniform distributions. Finally we analyze a real dataset that motivated our study using the proposed test.  相似文献

Many procedures exist for testing equality of means or medians to compare several independent distributions. However, the mean or median do not determine the entire distribution. In this article, we propose a new small-sample modification of the likelihood ratio test for testing the equality of the quantiles of several normal distributions. The merits of the proposed test are numerically compared with the existing tests—a generalized p-value method and likelihood ratio test—with respect to their sizes and powers. The simulation results demonstrate that proposed method is satisfactory; its actual size is very close to the nominal level. We illustrate these approaches using two real examples.  相似文献

The powers of the likelihood ratio (LR) test and an “asymptotically (in some sense) optimum” invariant test are examined and compared by simulation techniques with those of several other relevant tests for the problem of testing the equality of two univariate normal population means under the assumption of heterogeneous variances but homogeneous coefficients of variation. It is seen that the LR test is highly satisfactory for all values of the coefficient of variation and the “asymptotically optimum” invariant test, which is computationally much simpler than the LR test, is a reasonably good competitor for cases where the value of the coefficient of variation is greater than or equal to 3. In this article, we consider inference about the correlation coefficients of several bivariate normal distributions. We first propose computational approach tests for testing the equality of the correlation coefficients. In fact, these approaches are parametric bootstrap tests, and simulation studies show that they perform very satisfactory, and the actual sizes of these tests are better than other existing approaches. We also present a computational approach test and a parametric bootstrap confidence interval for inference about the parameter of common correlation coefficient. At the end, all the approaches are illustrated using two real examples.  相似文献

The power assessment of tests of the equality of k normal means such as the k treatment means in a one-way fixed effects analysis of variance model is addressed. Power assessment is considered in terms of a constraint on the range of the treatment means. The power properties of the standard F-test and Studentised range test are compared with those of an optimal (minimax) test procedure, which is known to maximise power levels under this constraint. It is shown that the standard test procedures compare well with the optimal test procedure, and in particular, the Studentised range test is shown to be practically as good as optimal in this setting.  相似文献

The paper presents a paired test of the equality of two means, allowing for incomplete pairs. It is a permutation test depending on minimal distributional assumptions. The test may be performed on original data or after transformation of the data. Transformation to ranks is illustrated.  相似文献

A goodness-of-fit test procedure is proposed for some lifetime distributions when the available data are subject to Type-I censoring. The proposed method extends the test procedure of Pakyari and Balakrishnan to other lifetime distributions. The extension to Weibull and log-normal models is studied in details. The new test recovers the nominal level of significance and exhibits more power in comparison to the existing tests for several alternative distributions by means of Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, a real dataset is considered for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We propose a new test for testing the equality of location parameter of two populations based on empirical distribution function (ECDF). The test statistics is obtained as a power divergence between two ECDFs. The test is shown to be distribution free, and its null distribution is obtained. We conducted empirical power comparison of the proposed test with several other available tests in the literature. We found that the proposed test performs better than its competitors considered here under several population structures. We also used two real datasets to illustrate the procedure.  相似文献

A test for linear trend among a set of eigenvalues of k covariance matrices is developed. A special case of this test is Flury's (1986) test for the equality of eigenvalues. The linear trend hypothesis appears to be more relevant to data analysis than the equality hypothesis. Examples show how the linear trend hypothesis can be acceptable while the equality hypothesis is rejected.  相似文献

The problem of testing the equality of coefficients of variation for two different populations leads to various levels of difficulty depending on the possible assumptions on models and parameters for the two populations under study. Simulation techniques appear to be the only feasible way in the case where the available information came only from data and when these do not allow one to make any assumption on the models. In this work we propose a nonparametric bootstrap procedure, both to build the test statistic and also to approximate the p-value. The properties of the test and its critical aspects are illustrated and discussed by means of an application to a real data set of anthropometric measures for the study of the sexual dimorphism.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new test statistic for testing the equality of high-dimensional covariance matrices for multiple populations. The proposed test statistic generalizes the test of the equality of two population covariance matrices proposed by Li and Chen (2012).  相似文献

Several procedures have been proposed for testing equality of ordered means. The best-known of these is the likelihood-ratio test introduced by Bartholomew, which possesses generally superior power characteristics to those of its competitors. Difficulties in implementing this test have led to the development of alternative approaches, such as tests based on single and multiple contrasts. Some recent approaches have utilized approximations to the polyhedral cone defining the restricted parameter space, including those of Akkerboom (circular cone) and Mudholkar & McDermott (orthant). This article proposes a class of tests based on an improved orthant approximation to the polyhedral cone. These tests may be viewed as generalizations of the orthogonal contrast test proposed by Mukerjee, Robertson & Wright. Studies of the power functions of several competing tests indicate that the generalized orthogonal contrast tests are effective alternatives to the likelihood-ratio test, especially when the latter is difficult to implement.  相似文献

The multivariate log-normal distribution is a good candidate to describe data that are not only positive and skewed, but also contain many characteristic values. In this study, we apply the generalized variable method to compare the mean vectors of two independent multivariate log-normal populations that display heteroscedasticity. Two generalized pivotal quantities are derived for constructing the generalized confidence region and for testing the difference between two mean vectors. Simulation results indicate that the proposed procedures exhibit satisfactory performance regardless of the sample sizes and heteroscedasticity. The type I error rates obtained are consistent with expectations and the coverage probabilities are close to the nominal level when compared with the other method which is currently available. These features make the proposed method a worthy alternative for inferential analysis of problems involving multivariate log-normal means. The results are illustrated using three examples.  相似文献

A nonparametric procedure, called the analysis of means using ranks (ANOMR), is proposed for testing the equality of several population means. The ANOMR procedure may be used graphically in the form of a Shewhart control chart and so has the advantage of pinpointing which population mean, if any, is significantly different from the others. Exact and asymptotic critical values are given for the implementation of ANOMR. Results from a Monte Carlo power study are presented which indicate that for light-tailed distributions such as the uniform and the normal, ANOMR is only slightly less powerful than the parametric competitive procedures based on analysis of variance and analysis of means. For heavy-tailed distributions such as the Cauchy, ANOMR is shown to provide greater power than the parametric procedures. The results also indicate that for both light and heavy-tailed distributions the use of the ANOMR test instead of the Kruskal-Wallis test leads to only a small loss of power for a range of alternatives.  相似文献

Let Xl,…,Xn be normally and independently distributed with means θl,…,θnand a cornmorl variance. Thus there are n observations and n+i unknwon parameters. A test of the null hypothesis that, the θi's are all zero and the alternative that the vector (θl,…,θn) lies in a convex cone with its vertex a.t the origin is connsidered in this paper. It is shown that under a mild condition the likelihood ratio test is possible. The ordinary one sided t - test belongs to the class of tests considered in this paper. The hypothesis of equality of means against the simple order alternative can be tested in certain cases .  相似文献

It has recently been shown by Perlman (1980) that when testing the equality of several normal distributions it is the likelihood ratio test which is unbiased rather than a test based on a modified statistic in common use. This paper gives expansions for the null distribution of the likelihood ratio statistic as well as for the nonnull distribution in a special case.  相似文献

We consider the one-way ANOVA problem of testing the equality of several normal means when the variances are not assumed to be equal. This is a generalization of the Behrens-Fisher problem, but even in this special case there is no exact test and the actual size of any test depends on the values of the nuisance parameters. Therefore, controlling the actual size of the test is of main concern. In this article, we first consider a test using the concept of generalized p-value. Extensive simulation studies show that the actual size of this test does not exceed the nominal level, for practically all values of the nuisance parameters, but the test is not too conservative either, in the sense that the actual size of the test can be very close to the nominal level for some values of the nuisance parameters. We then use this test to propose a simple F-test, which has similar properties but avoids the computations associated with generalized p-values. Because of its simplicity, both conceptually as well as computationally, this F-test may be more useful in practice, since one-way ANOVA is widely used by practitioners who may not be familiar with the generalized p-value and its computational aspects.  相似文献
