ABSTRACT

In longitudinal studies, subjects may potentially undergo a series of sequentially ordered events. The gap times, which are the times between two serial events, are often the outcome variables of interest. This study considers quantile regression models of gap times for censored serial-event data and adapts a weighted version of the estimating equation for regression coefficients. The resulting estimators are uniformly consistent and asymptotically normal. Extensive simulation studies are presented to evaluate the finite-sample performance of the proposed methods. An analysis of the tumor recurrence data for bladder cancer patients is also provided to illustrate our proposed methods.  相似文献

In linear regression the structure of the hat matrix plays an important part in regression diagnostics. In this note we investigate the properties of the hat matrix for regression with censored responses in the presence of one or more explanatory variables observed without censoring. The censored points in the scatterplot are renovated to positions had they been observed without censoring in a renovation process based on Buckley-James censored regression estimators. This allows natural links to be established with the structure of ordinary least squares estimators. In particular, we show that the renovated hat matrix may be partitioned in a manner which assists in deciding whether further explanatory variables should be added to the linear model. The added variable plot for regression with censored data is developed as a diagnostic tool for this decision process.  相似文献

Normal probability plots for a simple random sample and normal probability plots for residuals from linear regression are not treated differently in statistical text books. In the statistical literature, 1 ? α simultaneous probability intervals for augmenting a normal probability plot for a simple random sample are available. The first purpose of this article is to demonstrate that the tests associated with the 1 ? α simultaneous probability intervals for a simple random sample may have a size substantially different from α when applied to the residuals from linear regression. This leads to the second purpose of this article: construction of four normal probability plot-based tests for residuals, which have size α exactly. We then compare the powers of these four graphical tests and a non-graphical test for residuals in order to assess the power performances of the graphical tests and to identify the ones that have better power. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the methods.  相似文献

Interval-censored data arise due to a sequence random examination such that the failure time of interest occurs in an interval. In some medical studies, there exist long-term survivors who can be considered as permanently cured. We consider a mixed model for the uncured group coming from linear transformation models and cured group coming from a logistic regression model. For the inference of parameters, an EM algorithm is developed for a full likelihood approach. To investigate finite sample properties of the proposed method, simulation studies are conducted. The approach is applied to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s hypobaric decompression sickness data.  相似文献

As is the case of many studies, the data collected are limited and an exact value is recorded only if it falls within an interval range. Hence, the responses can be either left, interval or right censored. Linear (and nonlinear) regression models are routinely used to analyze these types of data and are based on normality assumptions for the errors terms. However, those analyzes might not provide robust inference when the normality assumptions are questionable. In this article, we develop a Bayesian framework for censored linear regression models by replacing the Gaussian assumptions for the random errors with scale mixtures of normal (SMN) distributions. The SMN is an attractive class of symmetric heavy-tailed densities that includes the normal, Student-t, Pearson type VII, slash and the contaminated normal distributions, as special cases. Using a Bayesian paradigm, an efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm is introduced to carry out posterior inference. A new hierarchical prior distribution is suggested for the degrees of freedom parameter in the Student-t distribution. The likelihood function is utilized to compute not only some Bayesian model selection measures but also to develop Bayesian case-deletion influence diagnostics based on the q-divergence measure. The proposed Bayesian methods are implemented in the R package BayesCR. The newly developed procedures are illustrated with applications using real and simulated data.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new semiparametric heteroscedastic regression model allowing for positive and negative skewness and bimodal shapes using the B-spline basis for nonlinear effects. The proposed distribution is based on the generalized additive models for location, scale and shape framework in order to model any or all parameters of the distribution using parametric linear and/or nonparametric smooth functions of explanatory variables. We motivate the new model by means of Monte Carlo simulations, thus ignoring the skewness and bimodality of the random errors in semiparametric regression models, which may introduce biases on the parameter estimates and/or on the estimation of the associated variability measures. An iterative estimation process and some diagnostic methods are investigated. Applications to two real data sets are presented and the method is compared to the usual regression methods.  相似文献

When describing a failure time distribution, the mean residual life is sometimes preferred to the survival or hazard rate. Regression analysis making use of the mean residual life function has recently drawn a great deal of attention. In this paper, a class of mean residual life regression models are proposed for censored data, and estimation procedures and a goodness-of-fit test are developed. Both asymptotic and finite sample properties of the proposed estimators are established, and the proposed methods are applied to a cancer data set from a clinic trial.  相似文献

As an alternative to the Cox model, the rank-based estimating method for censored survival data has been studied extensively since it was proposed by Tsiatis [Tsiatis AA (1990) Ann Stat 18:354–372] among others. Due to the discontinuity feature of the estimating function, a significant amount of work in the literature has been focused on numerical issues. In this article, we consider the computational aspects of a family of doubly weighted rank-based estimating functions. This family is rich enough to include both estimating functions of Tsiatis (1990) for the randomly observed data and of Nan et al. [Nan B, Yu M, Kalbfleisch JD (2006) Biometrika (to appear)] for the case-cohort data as special examples. The latter belongs to the biased sampling problems. We show that the doubly weighted rank-based discontinuous estimating functions are monotone, a property established for the randomly observed data in the literature, when the generalized Gehan-type weights are used. Though the estimating problem can be formulated to a linear programming problem as that for the randomly observed data, due to its easily uncontrollable large scale even for a moderate sample size, we instead propose a Newton-type iterated method to search for an approximate solution of the (system of) discontinuous monotone estimating equation(s). Simulation results provide a good demonstration of the proposed method. We also apply our method to a real data example.  相似文献

As it is known, testing the existence of random effects is often transferred to testing their zero variances/covariance matrices. It is a nonstandard testing problem because the hypothetical values are on the boundary of the whole space. In the literature, a difference-based test was proposed, which has asymptotically tractable null distribution and is then easy to implement. However, the projection method on which the difference-based test relies may affect and deteriorate its performance when covariates associated with fixed effects and covariates associated with random effects are highly correlated. In the paper, for linear mixed models (LMM) with longitudinal data, a new test is proposed to avoid this problem. The new test is also asymptotically distribution-free and more powerful than the difference-based test, particularly when the above correlation is high. The new test is consistent against all global alternatives and can detect local alternatives converging to the null at a rate as close as to m−1/2m1/2 with m being the number of subjects. Simulations are carried out to examine the performance and a real data analysis is performed for illustration.  相似文献

In many studies, the data collected are subject to some upper and lower detection limits. Hence, the responses are either left or right censored. A complication arises when these continuous measures present heavy tails and asymmetrical behavior; simultaneously. For such data structures, we propose a robust-censored linear model based on the scale mixtures of skew-normal (SMSN) distributions. The SMSN is an attractive class of asymmetrical heavy-tailed densities that includes the skew-normal, skew-t, skew-slash, skew-contaminated normal and the entire family of scale mixtures of normal (SMN) distributions as special cases. We propose a fast estimation procedure to obtain the maximum likelihood (ML) estimates of the parameters, using a stochastic approximation of the EM (SAEM) algorithm. This approach allows us to estimate the parameters of interest easily and quickly, obtaining as a byproducts the standard errors, predictions of unobservable values of the response and the log-likelihood function. The proposed methods are illustrated through real data applications and several simulation studies.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of confidence band construction for a standard multiple linear regression model. A “ray” method of construction is developed which generalizes the method of Graybill and Bowden [1967. Linear segment confidence bands for simple linear regression models. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 62, 403–408] for a simple linear regression model to a multiple linear regression model. By choosing suitable directions for the rays this method requires only critical points from t-distributions so that the confidence bands are easy to construct. Both one-sided and two-sided confidence bands can be constructed using this method. An illustration of the new method is provided.  相似文献

The multiple imputation technique has proven to be a useful tool in missing data analysis. We propose a Markov chain Monte Carlo method to conduct multiple imputation for incomplete correlated ordinal data using the multivariate probit model. We conduct a thorough simulation study to compare the performance of our proposed method with two available imputation methods – multivariate normal-based and chain equation methods for various missing data scenarios. For illustration, we present an application using the data from the smoking cessation treatment study for low-income community corrections smokers.  相似文献

This paper compares several Stein-like estimation methods for estimating regression parameters. The criterion function was the mean-squared error of prediction and the parameter of interest was the mean of the response variable at the sampled values of the control variables. Large sample simulation techniques were used to evaluate the mean-squared error of the predictions. The parameters of interest were varied systematically over wide ranges.  相似文献

An exact transformation that reduces the AR(p) process into white noise is well known in statistics, see Fuller (1976). However, practitioners still use and econometric textbooks still recommend the Cochrane-Orcutt procedure for p>2, see Greene (1990). This paper derives an alternative exact transformation for the AR(p) process which is computationally simple. Based on this transformation, a GLS estimator is proposed, requiring only least squares regressions and recursive computations. This is illustrated for the AR(3) case.  相似文献

In this paper, we utilize normal/independent (NI) distributions as a tool for robust modeling of linear mixed models (LMM) under a Bayesian paradigm. The purpose is to develop a non-iterative sampling method to obtain i.i.d. samples approximately from the observed posterior distribution by combining the inverse Bayes formulae, sampling/importance resampling and posterior mode estimates from the expectation maximization algorithm to LMMs with NI distributions, as suggested by Tan et al. [33 Tan, M., Tian, G. and Ng, K. 2003. A noniterative sampling method for computing posteriors in the structure of EM-type algorithms. Statist. Sinica, 13(3): 625640. [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]]. The proposed algorithm provides a novel alternative to perfect sampling and eliminates the convergence problems of Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. In order to examine the robust aspects of the NI class, against outlying and influential observations, we present a Bayesian case deletion influence diagnostics based on the Kullback–Leibler divergence. Further, some discussions on model selection criteria are given. The new methodologies are exemplified through a real data set, illustrating the usefulness of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

Longitudinal data often contain missing observations, and it is in general difficult to justify particular missing data mechanisms, whether random or not, that may be hard to distinguish. The authors describe a likelihood‐based approach to estimating both the mean response and association parameters for longitudinal binary data with drop‐outs. They specify marginal and dependence structures as regression models which link the responses to the covariates. They illustrate their approach using a data set from the Waterloo Smoking Prevention Project They also report the results of simulation studies carried out to assess the performance of their technique under various circumstances.  相似文献
