A method for constructing powerful significance tests for the equivalence of two proportions is proposed by assuming prior density values. Recent changes in the medical research environment emphasize the need for choice of a prior density in advance of any study. The proposed test is based on the posterior probability of the alternative model and preserves the significance level with minimal reduction of power. The new test performs better than the familiar mid-p test under the uniform prior density condition. In addition, the computational burden is low. Potential extensions of the proposed test to related problems are also discussed.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new test for examining the equality of the coefficient of variation between two different populations. The proposed test is based on the nonparametric bootstrap method. It appears to yield several appreciable advantages over the current tests. The quick and easy implementation of the test can be considered as advantages of the proposed test. The test is examined by the Monte Carlo simulations, and also evaluated using various numerical studies.  相似文献

The authors study the problem of testing whether two populations have the same law by comparing kernel estimators of the two density functions. The proposed test statistic is based on a local empirical likelihood approach. They obtain the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic and propose a bootstrap approximation to calibrate the test. A simulation study is carried out in which the proposed method is compared with two competitors, and a procedure to select the bandwidth parameter is studied. The proposed test can be extended to more than two samples and to multivariate distributions.  相似文献

It is an important problem to compare two time series in many applications. In this paper, a computational bootstrap procedure is proposed to test if two dependent stationary time series have the same autocovariance structures. The blocks of blocks bootstrap on bivariate time series is employed to estimate the covariance matrix which is necessary in order to construct the proposed test statistic. Without much additional effort, the bootstrap critical values can also be computed as a byproduct from the same bootstrap procedure. The asymptotic distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis is obtained. A simulation study is conducted to examine the finite sample performance of the test. The simulation results show that the proposed procedure with the bootstrap critical values performs well empirically and is especially useful when time series are short and non-normal. The proposed test is applied to an analysis of a real data set to understand the relationship between the input and output signals of a chemical process.  相似文献

A new jackknife test is proposed to test the equality of variances in several populations. The new test is based on jackknifing one group of observations at a time, instead of one observation in each group as recommended by Miller for a two sample case, and by Layard for several samples. The proposed test is examined, and compared with other tests, in terms of power and robustness with respect to a wide variety of non-normal distributions. It is found that the new test is robust and has reasonably high power for normal as well as for non-normal observations, irrespective of the sample size. Furthermore, the proposed test is certainly superior to all other tests considered here in small to moderate size samples, and is as good as or better than the other tests in large samples, irrespective of the distribution of sampling observations.  相似文献

Testing the equality of variances of two linear models with common β-parameter is considered. A test based on least squares residuals (ASR test) is proposed, and it is shown that this test is invariant under the group of scale and translation changes. For some special cases, it is also proved that this test has a monotone power function. Finding the exact critical values of this test is not easy; an approximation is given to facilitate the computation of these. The powers of the BLUS test, the F-test and the new test are computed for various alternatives and compared in a particular case. The proposed test seems to be locally more powerful than the alternative tests.  相似文献

Lachenbruch ( 1976 , 2001 ) introduced two‐part tests for comparison of two means in zero‐inflated continuous data. We are extending this approach and compare k independent distributions (by comparing their means, either overall or the departure from equal proportion of zeros and equal means of nonzero values) by introducing two tests: a two‐part Wald test and a two‐part likelihood ratio test. If the continuous part of the distributions is lognormal then the proposed two test statistics have asymptotically chi‐square distribution with $2(k-1)$ degrees of freedom. A simulation study was conducted to compare the performance of the proposed tests with several well‐known tests such as ANOVA, Welch ( 1951 ), Brown & Forsythe ( 1974 ), Kruskal–Wallis, and one‐part Wald test proposed by Tu & Zhou ( 1999 ). Results indicate that the proposed tests keep the nominal type I error and have consistently best power among all tests being compared. An application to rainfall data is provided as an example. We consider the problem of comparing (k + 1) coefficients of variation. We are interested in testing the null hypothesis that the coefficients of variation are equal against each of the alternatives: (a) some populations have different coefficients of variation and (b) the coefficients of variation are ordered. Three nonparametric test statistics are proposed and their asymptotic theory is developed. We compared the proposed tests together with another parametric test using two Monte Carlo studies to estimate their probabilities of Type I error and powers. An illustration of the proposed tests using a real data set is given.  相似文献

The classical chi-square test for independence cannot convey additional information and the degree of the association of two factors in two-way contingency table. Besides, measures of association by contingency coefficient need to be used with care, because the association measures depend on the number of rows r and the number of columns c. This article proposes a multistage chi-square test to measure the degree of the association between the two factors in two-way contingency table. We also give simulation and real examples to assess the performance of the proposed method. The results show that our proposed method can effectively investigate the degree of association of two factors in two-way contingency table.  相似文献

A new generalized logarithmic series distribution (GLSD) with two parameters is proposed. The proposed model is flexible enough to describe short-tailed as well as long-tailed data. Some recurence relations for its probabilities and the factorial moments are presente. These recurrence relations are utilized to obtain the minimum chi-square estimators for the parmaters.Maximum likelihood estimators and some other estimators based on first few moments and probabilities are also suggested.Asymptotic relative efficiency of some of these estimators is also obtained and compared. Two test statistics based on the minimum chi-square estimators fo testing some hypotheses regarding the GLSD are proposed. The fit of the model and the application of the test statistics are exemplified by some data sets. Finally, a graphical method is suggested for differentiating between the ordinary logarithmic series distribution and the GLSD.  相似文献

A procedure is proposed for the assessment of bioequivalence of variabilities between two formulations in bioavailability/bioequivalence studies. This procedure is essentially a two one-sided Pitman-Morgan’s tests procedure which is based on the correlation between crossover differences and subject totals. The nonparametric version of the proposed test is also discussed. A dataset of AUC from a 2×2 crossover bioequivalence trial is presented to illustrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

In a recent article, Cardoso de Oliveira and Ferreira have proposed a multivariate extension of the univariate chi-squared normality test, using a known result for the distribution of quadratic forms in normal variables. In this article, we propose a family of power divergence type test statistics for testing the hypothesis of multinormality. The proposed family of test statistics includes as a particular case the test proposed by Cardoso de Oliveira and Ferreira. We assess the performance of the new family of test statistics by using Monte Carlo simulation. In this context, the type I error rates and the power of the tests are studied, for important family members. Moreover, the performance of significant members of the proposed test statistics are compared with the respective performance of a multivariate normality test, proposed recently by Batsidis and Zografos. Finally, two well-known data sets are used to illustrate the method developed in this article as well as the specialized test of multivariate normality proposed by Batsidis and Zografos.  相似文献

In this article, procedures are proposed to test the hypothesis of equality of two or more regression functions. Tests are proposed by p-values, first under homoscedastic regression model, which are derived using fiducial method based on cubic spline interpolation. Then, we construct a test in the heteroscedastic case based on Fisher's method of combining independent tests. We study the behaviors of the tests by simulation experiments, in which comparisons with other tests are also given. The proposed tests have good performances. Finally, an application to a data set are given to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed test in practice.  相似文献

An omnibus test of uniformity based upon the ratios of sample moments and population moments is introduced. Results of a monte carlo power study show that for two types of alternatives considered, the proposed test has good power in comparison with Neyman's test N 2Greenwood's test, Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and Chi-squared test.  相似文献

Many techniques based on data which are drawn by Ranked Set Sampling (RSS) scheme assume that the ranking of observations is perfect. Therefore it is essential to develop some methods for testing this assumption. In this article, we propose a parametric location-scale free test for assessing the assumption of perfect ranking. The results of a simulation study in two special cases of normal and exponential distributions indicate that the proposed test performs well in comparison with its leading competitors.  相似文献

This paper proposes an overlapping-based test statistic for testing the equality of two exponential distributions with different scale and location parameters. The test statistic is defined as the maximum likelihood estimate of the Weitzman's overlapping coefficient, which estimates the agreement of two densities. The proposed test statistic is derived in closed form. Simulated critical points are generated for the proposed test statistic for various sample sizes and significance levels via Monte Carlo Simulations. Statistical powers of the proposed test are computed via simulation studies and compared to those of the existing Log likelihood ratio test.  相似文献

A general testing procedure is proposed to multivariately test for equality of p variances among k groups. The procedure applies a multivariate analysis of variance on an appropriate measure of spread for the uncensored original observations. Three such measures of spread are compared in a simulation experiment which considered two and three variables with equal and unequal sample sizes for the null and alternative hypotheses for Gaussian, Student's t (8, 12, and 20 degrees of freedom) and gamma (α=2,4,6 and 10) distributions . The likelihood ratio test (Box, 1949) was included in the above simulations. The results suggest that if one chooses a measure of spread appropriate for the distribution of the original observations, the proposed MANOVA-based testing procedure is robust and reasonably powerful. Using this procedure for the normal distribution, similar power was observed to that of the likelihood ratio test when the variables were uncorrelated or had little positive correlation.  相似文献

Assessment of the adequacy of a proposed linear regression model is necessarily subjective. However, the following three criteria may warrant investigation whether the distributional assumptions for the stochastic portion of the model are satisfied, whether the predictive capability of the model is satisfactory, and whether the deterministic portion of the model is adejuate in a statistical sense. The first two criteria have been reviewed in the literature to some extent. This paper reviews statistical tests and procedures which aid the experimenter in deterrmining lack of fit or functional misspecification associated with the deterministic portion of a proposed linear regression model.  相似文献

A multivariate two-sample testing problem is one of the most important topics in nonparametric statistics. One of the multivariate two-sample testing problems based on the Jure?ková–Kalina ranks of distance is discussed in this article. Further, a multivariate Wilcoxon-type test is proposed for testing the equality of two continuous distribution functions. Simulations are used to investigate the power of this test for the two-sided alternative with various population distributions. The results show that the proposed test statistic is more suitable than various existing statistics for testing a shift in the locationt and location-scale parameters.  相似文献

A distribution-free test for comparing several treatments with a control is proposed for one-way classified data. It is advantageous to use the test in life-testing experiments where testing time is expensive. The proposed test has a shorter expected duration than a previously proposed test by Slivka(1970). The optimal allocation of the experimental units to the treatments for two situations are given. In a simulation study the power of the test is compared with the power of Slivka's test. An extension of the test for two-way classified data is given  相似文献
