The inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is widely used to model positively skewed data. An important issue is to develop a powerful goodness-of-fit test for the IG distribution. We propose and examine novel test statistics for testing the IG goodness of fit based on the density-based empirical likelihood (EL) ratio concept. To construct the test statistics, we use a new approach that employs a method of the minimization of the discrimination information loss estimator to minimize Kullback–Leibler type information. The proposed tests are shown to be consistent against wide classes of alternatives. We show that the density-based EL ratio tests are more powerful than the corresponding classical goodness-of-fit tests. The practical efficiency of the tests is illustrated by using real data examples. 相似文献

In this paper, we suggest an extension of the cumulative residual entropy (CRE) and call it generalized cumulative entropy. The proposed entropy not only retains attributes of the existing uncertainty measures but also possesses the absolute homogeneous property with unbounded support, which the CRE does not have. We demonstrate its mathematical properties including the entropy of order statistics and the principle of maximum general cumulative entropy. We also introduce the cumulative ratio information as a measure of discrepancy between two distributions and examine its application to a goodness-of-fit test of the logistic distribution. Simulation study shows that the test statistics based on the cumulative ratio information have comparable statistical power with competing test statistics. 相似文献

In most reliability studies involving censoring, one assumes that censoring probabilities are unknown. We derive a nonparametric estimator for the survival function when information regarding censoring frequency is available. The estimator is constructed by adjusting the Nelson–Aalen estimator to incorporate censoring information. Our results indicate significant improvements can be achieved if available information regarding censoring is used. We compare this model to the Koziol–Green model, which is also based on a form of proportional hazards for the lifetime and censoring distributions. Two examples of survival data help to illustrate the differences in the estimation techniques. 相似文献

In this article, the general test statistic introduced by Alizadeh Noughabi and Balakrishnan [Goodness of fit using a new estimate of Kullback-Leibler information based on Type II censored data. IEEE Trans Reliab. 2015;64:627–635.] is applied for testing goodness of fit of lifetime distributions based on Type II censored data. The test statistic is constructed based on an estimate of Kullback–Leibler (KL) information. We investigate the properties of the proposed test statistic such as the test statistic is nonnegative, just like KL information. We apply this test statistic to following distributions: Exponential, Weibull, Log-normal and Pareto. The critical values and Type I error of the proposed tests are obtained. It is shown that the proposed tests have an excellent Type I error and hence can be used confidently in practice. Then, by Monte Carlo simulations, the power values of the proposed tests are computed against several alternatives and compared with those of the existing tests. Finally, some real-world reliability data are used for illustrative purpose. 相似文献

In this article, we estimate the parameters of exponential Pareto II distribution by two new methods. The first one is based on the principle of maximum entropy (POME) and the second is by Kullback–Leibler divergence of survival function (KLS). Monte Carlo simulated data are used to evaluate these methods and compare them with the maximum likelihood method. Finally, we fit this distribution to a set of real data by estimation procedures. 相似文献

In this article, we use a new cdf estimator to obtain a nanparametric entropy estimate and use it for testing exponentiality and normality. We also use the new cdf estimator to estimate the joint entropy of the Type II censored data which we use for some goodness-of-fit tests based on Kullback–Leibler information and show, by simulation, that it compares favorably with the leading competitor. 相似文献

The inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution is widely used to model data and then it is important to develop efficient goodness of fit tests for this distribution. In this article, we introduce some new test statistics for examining the IG goodness of fit based on correcting moments of nonparametric probability density functions of entropy estimators. These tests are consistent against all alternatives. Critical points and power of the tests are explored by simulation. We show that the proposed tests are more powerful than competitor tests. Finally, the proposed tests are illustrated by real data examples. 相似文献

Competing models arise naturally in many research fields, such as survival analysis and economics, when the same phenomenon of interest is explained by different researcher using different theories or according to different experiences. The model selection problem is therefore remarkably important because of its great importance to the subsequent inference; Inference under a misspecified or inappropriate model will be risky. Existing model selection tests such as Vuong's tests [26] and Shi's non-degenerate tests [21] suffer from the variance estimation and the departure of the normality of the likelihood ratios. To circumvent these dilemmas, we propose in this paper an empirical likelihood ratio (ELR) tests for model selection. Following Shi [21], a bias correction method is proposed for the ELR tests to enhance its performance. A simulation study and a real-data analysis are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed ELR tests. 相似文献

ABSTRACTIn this paper, we first consider the entropy estimators introduced by Vasicek [A test for normality based on sample entropy. J R Statist Soc, Ser B. 1976;38:54–59], Ebrahimi et al. [Two measures of sample entropy. Stat Probab Lett. 1994;20:225–234], Yousefzadeh and Arghami [Testing exponentiality based on type II censored data and a new cdf estimator. Commun Stat – Simul Comput. 2008;37:1479–1499], Alizadeh Noughabi and Arghami [A new estimator of entropy. J Iran Statist Soc. 2010;9:53–64], and Zamanzade and Arghami [Goodness-of-fit test based on correcting moments of modified entropy estimator. J Statist Comput Simul. 2011;81:2077–2093], and the nonparametric distribution functions corresponding to them. We next introduce goodness-of-fit test statistics for the Laplace distribution based on the moments of nonparametric distribution functions of the aforementioned estimators. We obtain power estimates of the proposed test statistics with Monte Carlo simulation and compare them with the competing test statistics against various alternatives. Performance of the proposed new test statistics is illustrated in real cases. 相似文献

AbstractIn order to discriminate between two probability distributions extensions of Kullback–Leibler (KL) information have been proposed in the literature. In recent years, an extension called cumulative Kullback–Leibler (CKL) information is considered by authors which is closely related to equilibrium distributions. In this paper, we propose an adjusted version of CKL based on equilibrium distributions. Some properties of the proposed measure of divergence are investigated. A test of exponentiality based on the adjusted measure, is proposed. The empirical power of the presented test is calculated and compared with some existing standard tests of exponentiality. The results show that our proposed test, for some important alternative distributions, has better performance than some of the existing tests. 相似文献

ABSTRACTOn the basis of Csiszar's φ-divergence discrimination information, we propose a measure of discrepancy between equilibriums associated with two distributions. Proving that a distribution can be characterized by associated equilibrium distribution, a Renyi distance of the equilibrium distributions is constructed that made us to propose an EDF-based goodness-of-fit test for exponential distribution. For comparing the performance of the proposed test, some well-known EDF-based tests and some entropy-based tests are considered. Based on the simulation results, the proposed test has better powers than those of competing entropy-based tests for the alternatives with decreasing hazard rate function. The use of the proposed test is evaluated in an illustrative example. 相似文献

This paper proposes an approximation to the distribution of a goodness-of-fit statistic proposed recently by Balakrishnan et al. [Balakrishnan, N., Ng, H.K.T. and Kannan, N., 2002, A test of exponentiality based on spacings for progressively Type-II censored data. In: C. Huber-Carol et al. (Eds.), Goodness-of-Fit Tests and Model Validity (Boston: Birkhäuser), pp. 89–111.] for testing exponentiality based on progressively Type-II right censored data. The moments of this statistic can be easily calculated, but its distribution is not known in an explicit form. We first obtain the exact moments of the statistic using Basu's theorem and then the density approximants based on these exact moments of the statistic, expressed in terms of Laguerre polynomials, are proposed. A comparative study of the proposed approximation to the exact critical values, computed by Balakrishnan and Lin [Balakrishnan, N. and Lin, C.T., 2003, On the distribution of a test for exponentiality based on progressively Type-II right censored spacings. Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, 73 (4), 277–283.], is carried out. This reveals that the proposed approximation is very accurate. 相似文献

In randomized clinical trials, methods of pairwise comparisons such as the ‘Net Benefit’ or the ‘win ratio’ have recently gained much attention when interests lies in assessing the effect of a treatment as compared to a standard of care. Among other advantages, these methods are usually praised for delivering a treatment measure that can easily handle multiple outcomes of different nature, while keeping a meaningful interpretation for patients and clinicians. For time-to-event outcomes, a recent suggestion emerged in the literature for estimating these treatment measures by providing a natural handling of censored outcomes. However, this estimation procedure may lead to biased estimates when tails of survival functions cannot be reliably estimated using Kaplan–Meier estimators. The problem then extrapolates to the other outcomes incorporated in the pairwise comparison construction. In this work, we suggest to extend the procedure by the consideration of a hybrid survival function estimator that relies on an extreme value tail model through the Generalized Pareto distribution. We provide an estimator of treatment effect measures that notably improves on bias and remains easily apprehended for practical implementation. This is illustrated in an extensive simulation study as well as in an actual trial of a new cancer immunotherapy. 相似文献

In the context of a competing risks set-up, we discuss different inference procedures for testing equality of two cumulative incidence functions, where the data may be subject to independent right-censoring or left-truncation. To this end, we compare two-sample Kolmogorov–Smirnov- and Cramér–von Mises-type test statistics. Since, in general, their corresponding asymptotic limit distributions depend on unknown quantities, we utilize wild bootstrap resampling as well as approximation techniques to construct adequate test decisions. Here, the latter procedures are motivated from tests for heteroscedastic factorial designs but have not yet been proposed in the survival context. A simulation study shows the performance of all considered tests under various settings and finally a real data example about bloodstream infection during neutropenia is used to illustrate their application. 相似文献

In this paper, we first propose a new estimator of entropy for continuous random variables. Our estimator is obtained by correcting the coefficients of Vasicek's [A test for normality based on sample entropy, J. R. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 38 (1976), pp. 54–59] entropy estimator. We prove the consistency of our estimator. Monte Carlo studies show that our estimator is better than the entropy estimators proposed by Vasicek, Ebrahimi et al. [Two measures of sample entropy, Stat. Probab. Lett. 20 (1994), pp. 225–234] and Correa [A new estimator of entropy, Commun. Stat. Theory Methods 24 (1995), pp. 2439–2449] in terms of root mean square error. We then derive the non-parametric distribution function corresponding to our proposed entropy estimator as a piece-wise uniform distribution. We also introduce goodness-of-fit tests for testing exponentiality and normality based on the said distribution and compare its performance with their leading competitors. 相似文献

The exponential distribution has been used in life-testing and reliability studies. In this article, we first express the entropy of Type-I hybrid censoring scheme in terms of hazard function and provide an estimate of the entropy of Type-I hybrid censored data. Then, we construct a goodness-of-fit test statistic based on Kullback–Leibler information for Type-I hybrid censored data. The test statistic is used to test for exponentiality. A Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to obtain the power of the proposed test against various alternatives. Finally, a data example is presented for illustrative purpose. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe aim of this paper is obtaining the amount of information there exists in the Pareto distribution in the presence of outliers. For the sake of this purpose, Shannon entropy, ?-entropy, Fisher information, and Kullback–Leibler distance are computed. Furthermore, a section has been devoted to compare these quantities in these two cases of the Pareto distribution (with outliers and the homogenous case). At the end of this paper, two actual examples, which are related to insurance companies, are brought. A brief summary of which is done in this work is also reported. 相似文献

The problem of estimating the one parameter exponential reliability function for a system composed of l componentes in series is considered. Under the type II censoring scheme, the Bayes nature of the minimum variance unbiased estimator is demonstrated and the admissibility of related generalized Bayes estimators is established. For the one component case, the best unbiased estimator is admissible. 相似文献

In this article, we consider a single change point model for a sudden change in the hazard rate of Lindley distribution to model right-censored survival data. We derive the quantile function to generate random numbers from the proposed distribution by using the Lambert function. The maximum likelihood estimation method is used to estimate parameters of the change point model. A simulation study is also carried out to analyze the performance of the estimators. To validate our findings, a dataset on bone marrow transplant for patients of acute lymphoblastic leukemia is analyzed using the proposed model and is compared with the existing exponential single change point model. 相似文献
