In this article, simple expressions for marginal density functions of multiply censored generalized order statistics based on continuous distribution functions are obtained. Moreover, it is shown that generalized order statistics are multivariate totally positive and, thus, associated. This property is applied to show that regressions of generalized order statistics are nondecreasing under weak conditions.  相似文献

Let Xi:j denote the ith order statistic of a random sample of size j from a continuous life distribution. We show that if Xk:n, is IFR, IFRA, NBU, or DMRL, so are Xk+1:n, Xk+1:n?1 and Xk+1:n+1. Further we show that, in the first three cases, Xk+1:n+2 also shares the corresponding property if k ≤ (n+3)/2. We also present dual results for DFR, DFRA and NWU classes.  相似文献

Generalized order statistics introduced by Kamps [1995. A concept of generalized order statistics. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 48, 1–23] provides a unified approach to a variety of models concerning ordered random variables. This paper carries out stochastic comparisons of conditional generalized order statistics in terms of the likelihood ratio order and the hazard rate order from two samples, and establishes some stochastic monotonicity properties. The main results strengthen and generalize the corresponding results established recently in the literature. Finally, some applications of the main results are given as well.  相似文献

For a random sample of size nn from an absolutely continuous random vector (X,Y)(X,Y), let Yi:nYi:n be iith YY-order statistic and Y[j:n]Y[j:n] be the YY-concomitant of Xj:nXj:n. We determine the joint pdf of Yi:nYi:n and Y[j:n]Y[j:n] for all i,j=1i,j=1 to nn, and establish some symmetry properties of the joint distribution for symmetric populations. We discuss the uses of the joint distribution in the computation of moments and probabilities of various ranks for Y[j:n]Y[j:n]. We also show how our results can be used to determine the expected cost of mismatch in broken bivariate samples and approximate the first two moments of the ratios of linear functions of Yi:nYi:n and Y[j:n]Y[j:n]. For the bivariate normal case, we compute the expectations of the product of Yi:nYi:n and Y[i:n]Y[i:n] for n=2n=2 to 8 for selected values of the correlation coefficient and illustrate their uses.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to derive the exact forms of the p.d.f. and the moments of the rth order statistics in a sample of size n from the Log-logistic (Ll ) distribution. Measures of skewness and kurtosis are tabulated. The recurrence relations between the moments of all order statistics and an expression of the covariance between any two order statistics, xi and xjand the distribution of the ratio of Xi to xj are derived.  相似文献

Using certain properties of order statistics, the geometric distribution has been characterized when the components are independent and identically distributed. When the components are independent, the geometric distribution has been characterized in the class of either IFR or DFR discrete distributions. In particular, Ferguson's (1967) characterization theorem for independent components in a sample of size two has been extended in several directions.  相似文献

Outliers are to be found among the extremes of a data set. Extremes are examples of order statistics. It is thus relevant to ask to what extent the statistical methods (and probabilistic properties) of outliers and of order statistics coincide and depend on each other. Whilst clear overlap is identifiable, aims and procedures are often quite distinct and each topic plays its own important role in the panoply of statistical principles and methodology.  相似文献

Abstract

The Dagum distribution has been extensively used to model income data, and its features have been appreciated in economics and financial studies. In this article, we discuss ordering properties of largest order statistics from independent and heterogeneous Dagum populations. We present some sufficient conditions for stochastic comparisons between largest order statistics in terms of the reversed hazard rate order, the usual stochastic order, the convex order, the likelihood ratio order and the dispersive order. Several numerical examples are presented to illustrate the results established here.  相似文献

An alternative to conventional rank tests based on a Euclidean distance analysis space is described. Comparisons based on exact probability values among classical two-sample t-tests and the Wilcoxon–Mann–Whitney test illustrate the advantages of the Euclidean distance analysis space alternative.  相似文献

Let X(1),…,X(n) be the order statistics of n iid distributed random variables. We prove that (X(i)) have a certain Markov property for general distributions and secondly that the order statistics have monotone conditional regression dependence. Both properties are well known in the case of continuous distributions.  相似文献

In this article, we study the joint distribution of X and two linear combinations of order statistics, a T Y (2) and b T Y (2), where a = (a 1, a 2) T and b = (b 1, b 2) T are arbitrary vectors in R 2 and Y (2) = (Y (1), Y (2)) T is a vector of ordered statistics obtained from (Y 1, Y 2) T when (X, Y 1, Y 2) T follows a trivariate normal distribution with a positive definite covariance matrix. We show that this distribution belongs to the skew-normal family and hence our work is a generalization of Olkin and Viana (J Am Stat Assoc 90:1373–1379, 1995) and Loperfido (Test 17:370–380, 2008).  相似文献

There are several well-known mappings which transform the first r common order statistics in a sample of size n from a standard uniform distribution to a full vector of dimension r of order statistics in a sample of size r from a uniform distribution. Continuing the results reported in a previous paper by the authors, it is shown that transformations of these types do not lead to order statistics from an i.i.d. sample of random variables, in general, when being applied to order statistics from non-uniform distributions. By accepting the loss of one dimension, a structure-preserving transformation exists for power function distributions.  相似文献

This paper starts with an itroduction which gives definitions of order statistics, makes a clear distinction between order statistics and rank statistics, and gives an overview of the problems in which methods based on order statstics are useful. The following sections deal with the history and role of order sta¬tistics in selected areas: central tendency, dispersion, and regression; treatment of outliers and robust estimation; maximum likelihood estimators; best linear unbiased estimators; extreme-values; multiple comparisons and studentized range. The last two sections discuss a basic coverage property and some of its conse¬quences and describe the author's chronological annotated bibliography of order statistics. Finally, there is a list of references.  相似文献

In this paper we establish an optimal asymptotic linear predictor which does not involve the finite-sample variance-covariance structure. Extensions to the problem of finding the best linear unbiased and simple linear unbiased predictors for k samples are given. Moreover, we obtain alternative linear predictors by modifying the covariance matrix by either an identity matrix or a diagonal matrix. For normal, logistic and Rayleigh samples of size 10, the alternative linear predictors with these modifications have high efficiency when compared with the best linear unbiased predictor.  相似文献

Generalized order statistics (gos) were introduced by Kamps [1995. A Concept of Generalized Order Statistics. Teubner, Stuttgart] to unify several models of ordered random variables (rv's), e.g., (ordinary) order statistics (oos), records, sequential order statistics (sos). In a wide subclass of gos that includes oos and sos, the possible limit distribution functions (df's) of the maximum gos are obtained in Nasri-Roudsari [1996. Extreme value theory of generalized order statistics. J. Statist. Plann. Inference 55, 281–297]. In this paper, for this subclass, necessary and sufficient conditions of weak convergence, as well as the form of the possible limit df's of extreme, intermediate and central gos are derived. These results are extended to a wider subclass.  相似文献

Prediction of censored order statistics from a Type-II censored sample can be done with trivial bounds having perfect confidence. However, given independent samples from the same absolutely continuous distribution, improved bounds can be attained. In this regard, we develop here point prediction based on L-statistics for predicting order statistics (OS) from a future sample as well as for predicting censored OS from a Type-II censored sample. An example is taken to illustrate these ideas, and the limiting case wherein a single independent sample is arbitrarily large is also discussed.  相似文献

We investigate the existence and uniqueness of a discrete parent distribution supported on the integers whose order statistics are related by a random translation. We also provide some examples using the constructive method that we propose.  相似文献
