In this paper, we present a repetitive sampling method to construct control charts using exponentially weighted moving averages (EWMA) and double exponentially weighted moving averages (DEWMA) to monitor shift in the process. For non-normal processes, t-distribution with various degrees of freedom (i.e. ) is used as symmetric distribution, gamma distribution with unit scale parameter and various shape parameters (i.e. ) is used as positively skewed distribution and Weibull distribution with unit scale parameter and various shape parameters (i.e. 10 and 20) is used as negatively skewed distribution. We use Monte Carlo simulations to check whether the process is out of control. We use average run length as a tool to find the ability of proposed control charts to identify a shift earlier in a process, as compared to other control charts currently used to monitor the same type of process. Statistical design is applied to a multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) control chart. The chart parameters are control limit H and smoothing constant r. The choices of the parameters depend on the number of variables p and the size of the process mean shift δ. The MEWMA statistic is modeled as a Markov chain and the Markov chain approach is used to determine the properties of the chart. Although average run length has become a traditional measure of the performance of control schemes, some authors have suggested other measures, such as median and other percentiles of the run length distribution to explain run length properties of a control scheme. This will allow a thorough study of the performance of the control scheme. Consequently, conclusions based on these measures would provide a better and comprehensive understanding of a scheme. In this article, we present the performance of the MEWMA control chart as measured by the average run length and median run length. Graphs are given so that the chart parameters of an optimal MEWMA chart can be determined easily. 相似文献

In this article, Six Sigma zone control charts (SSZCCs) are proposed for world class organizations. The transition probabilities are obtained using the Markov chain approach. The Average Run Length (ARL) values are then presented. The ARL performance of the proposed SSZCCs and the standard Six Sigma control chart (SSCC) without zones or run rules is studied. The ARL performance of these charts is then compared with those of the other standard zone control charts (ZCCs), the modified ZCC and the traditional Shewhart control chart (SCC) with common run rules. As expected, it is shown that the proposed SSZCC outperforms the standard SSCC without zones or run rules for process shifts of any magnitude. When compared to the other standard ZCCs and the Shewhart chart with common run rules, it is observed that the proposed SSZCCs have much higher false alarm rates for smaller shifts and hence they prevent unwanted process disturbances. The application of the proposed SSZCC is illustrated using a real time example. 相似文献

Since multi-attribute control charts have received little attention compared with multivariate variable control charts, this research is concerned with developing a new methodology to employ the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) charts for m-attribute binomial processes; the attributes being the number of nonconforming items. Moreover, since the variable sample size and sampling interval (VSSI) MEWMA charts detect small process mean shifts faster than the traditional MEWMA, an economic design of the VSSI MEWMA chart is proposed to obtain the optimum design parameters of the chart. The sample size, the sampling interval, and the warning/action limit coefficients are obtained using a genetic algorithm such that the expected total cost per hour is minimized. At the end, a sensitivity analysis has been carried out to investigate the effects of the cost and the model parameters on the solution of the economic design of the VSSI MEWMA chart. 相似文献

In this article we consider the modified Shewhart control chart for ARCH processes and introduce it for threshold ARCH (TARCH) ones. For both charts, we determine bounds for the distribution of the in-control run length (RL) and, consequently, for its average (ARL), both depending only on the distribution of the generating white noise, the model parameters and the critical value. For the ARCH model, we compare our bounds with others available in literature and show how they improve the existing ones. We present a simulation study to assess the quality of the bounds calculated for the ARL. 相似文献

Compared to the grid search approach to optimal design of control charts, the gradient-based approach is more computationally efficient as the gradient information indicates the direction to search the optimal design parameters. However, the optimal parameters of multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) control charts are often obtained by using grid search in the existing literature. Note that the average run length (ARL) performance of the MEWMA chart can be calculated based on a Markov chain model, making it feasible to estimate the ARL gradient from it. Motivated by this, this paper develops an ARL gradient-based approach for the optimal design and sensitivity analysis of MEWMA control charts. It is shown that the proposed method is able to provide a fast, accurate, and easy-to-implement algorithm for the design and analysis of MEWMA charts, as compared to the conventional design approach based on grid search. 相似文献

An economic statistical model of the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart for the average number of nonconformities in the sample is proposed. The statistical and economic performance of proposed design are evaluated using the average run length (ARL) and the hourly expected cost, respectively. A Markov chain approach is applied to derive expressions for ARL. The cost model is established based on the general cost function given in Lorenzen and Vance [The economic design of control charts: a unified approach. Technometrics. 1986;28:3–11]. An example is provided to illustrate the application of the proposed model. Processes of serially dependent Poisson counts are commonly observed in real-world applications and can often be modeled by the first-order integer-valued autoregressive (INAR) model. For detecting positive shifts in the mean of a Poisson INAR(1) process, we propose the one-sided s exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart, which is based on a new type of rounding operation. The s-EWMA chart allows computing average run length (ARLs) exactly and efficiently with a Markov chain approach. Using an implementation of this procedure for ARL computation, the s-EWMA chart is easily designed, which is demonstrated with a real-data example. Based on an extensive study of ARLs, the out-of-control performance of the chart is analyzed and compared with that of a c chart and a one-sided cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart. It is shown that a recursive estimator with the same asymptotic properties as the median has convergence properties in finite samples which depend heavily on the scale of the data. A simple modification which adjusts for the scale is suggested and its application illustrated on simulated data. A great deal of inference in statistics is based on making the approximation that a statistic is normally distributed. The error in doing so is generally O(n?1/2), where n is the sample size and can be considered when the distribution of the statistic is heavily biased or skewed. This note shows how one may reduce the error to O(n?(j+1)/2), where j is a given integer. The case considered is when the statistic is the mean of the sample values of a continuous distribution with a scale or location change after the sample has undergone an initial transformation, which may depend on an unknown parameter. ABSTRACTThis article develops an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart using an auxiliary variable and repetitive sampling for efficient detection of small to moderate shifts in location. A EWMA statistic of a product estimator of the average (which utilities the information of auxiliary variables as well as repetitive sampling) is plotted on the proposed chart. The control chart coefficients of the proposed EWMA chart are determined for two strategic limits known as outer and inner control limits for the target in-control average run length. The performance of the proposed EWMA chart is studied using average run length when a shift occurs in the process average. The efficiency of the developed chart is compared with the competitive existing control charts. The results of the study revealed that proposed EWMA chart is more efficient than others to detect small changes in process mean. 相似文献

Simultaneous robust estimates of location and scale parameters are derived from minimizing a minimum-distance criterion function. The criterion function measures the squared distance between the pth power (p > 0) of the empirical distribution function and the pth power of the imperfectly determined model distribution function over the real line. We show that the estimator is uniquely defined, is asymptotically bivariate normal and for p > 0.3 has positive breakdown. If the scale parameter is known, when p = 0.9 the asymptotic variance (1.0436) of the location estimator for the normal model is smaller than the asymptotic variance of the Hodges-Lehmann (HL)estimator (1.0472). Efficiencies with respect to HL and maximum-likelihood estimators (MLE) are 1.0034 and 0.9582, respectively. Similarly, if the location parameter is known, when p = 0.97 the asymptotic variance (0.6158) of the scale estimator is minimum. The efficiency with respect to the MLE is 0.8119. We show that the estimator can tolerate more corrupted observations at oo than at – for p < 1, and vice versa for p > 1. 相似文献

This paper develops parametric inference for the parameters of location-scale family of distributions based on a ranked set sample. Likelihood function incorporates within-set ranking errors into the model through a missing data mechanism. The maximum likelihood estimators of the location-scale and missing data model parameters are constructed and an EM-algorithm is provided. It is shown that the proposed estimator is robust against imperfect ranking error and provides higher efficiency over its competitors. 相似文献

Summary. A general class of statistical models for a univariate response variable is presented which we call the generalized additive model for location, scale and shape (GAMLSS). The model assumes independent observations of the response variable y given the parameters, the explanatory variables and the values of the random effects. The distribution for the response variable in the GAMLSS can be selected from a very general family of distributions including highly skew or kurtotic continuous and discrete distributions. The systematic part of the model is expanded to allow modelling not only of the mean (or location) but also of the other parameters of the distribution of y , as parametric and/or additive nonparametric (smooth) functions of explanatory variables and/or random-effects terms. Maximum (penalized) likelihood estimation is used to fit the (non)parametric models. A Newton–Raphson or Fisher scoring algorithm is used to maximize the (penalized) likelihood. The additive terms in the model are fitted by using a backfitting algorithm. Censored data are easily incorporated into the framework. Five data sets from different fields of application are analysed to emphasize the generality of the GAMLSS class of models. 相似文献

A robust estimator is developed for the location and scale parameters of a location-scale family. The estimator is defined as the minimizer of a minimum distance function that measures the distance between the ranked set sample empirical cumulative distribution function and a possibly misspecified target model. We show that the estimator is asymptotically normal, robust, and has high efficiency with respect to its competitors in literature. It is also shown that the location estimator is consistent within the class of all symmetric distributions whereas the scale estimator is Fisher consistent at the true target model. The paper also considers an optimal allocation procedure that does not introduce any bias due to judgment error classification. It is shown that this allocation procedure is equivalent to Neyman allocation. A numerical efficiency comparison is provided. 相似文献
