By using the structural density function (Fraser 1979, Ch. 7) of the parameters of a Pareto distribution, the structural distribution function of the strong Pareto law is derived. Its fractiles have been evaluated numerically for special cases, and the results are displayed through graphs from which structural one-sided probability bounds may be found. It is shown that these graphs may also be used to find structural tolerance bounds for the Pareto distribution.  相似文献

Many distributions have been used as lifetime models. In this article, we propose a new three-parameter Weibull–Pareto distribution, which can produce the most important hazard rate shapes, namely, constant, increasing, decreasing, bathtub, and upsidedown bathtub. Various structural properties of the new distribution are derived including explicit expressions for the moments and incomplete moments, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves, mean deviations, mean residual life, mean waiting time, and generating and quantile functions. The Rényi and q entropies are also derived. We obtain the density function of the order statistics and their moments. The model parameters are estimated by maximum likelihood and the observed information matrix is determined. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated by means of two real datasets on Wheaton river flood and bladder cancer. In the two applications, the new model provides better fits than the Kumaraswamy–Pareto, beta-exponentiated Pareto, beta-Pareto, exponentiated Pareto, and Pareto models.  相似文献

Finite mixture models have provided a reasonable tool to model various types of observed phenomena, specially those which are random in nature. In this article, a finite mixture of Weibull and Pareto (IV) distribution is considered and studied. Some structural properties of the resulting model are discussed including estimation of the model parameters via expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. A real-life data application exhibits the fact that in certain situations, this mixture model might be a better alternative than the rival popular models.  相似文献

Doostparast and Balakrishnan (Pareto record-based analysis, Statistics, under review) recently developed optimal confidence intervals as well as uniformly most powerful tests for one- and two-sided hypotheses concerning shape and scale parameters, for the two-parameter Pareto distribution based on record data. In this paper, on the basis of record values and inter-record times from the two-parameter Pareto distribution, maximum-likelihood and Bayes estimators as well as credible regions are developed for the two parameters of the Pareto distribution. For illustrative purposes, a data set on annual wages of a sample of production-line workers in a large industrial firm is analysed using the proposed procedures.  相似文献

For the complete sample and the right Type II censored sample, Chen [Joint confidence region for the parameters of Pareto distribution. Metrika 44 (1996), pp. 191–197] proposed the interval estimation of the parameter θ and the joint confidence region of the two parameters of Pareto distribution. This paper proposed two methods to construct the confidence region of the two parameters of the Pareto distribution for the progressive Type II censored sample. A simulation study comparing the performance of the two methods is done and concludes that Method 1 is superior to Method 2 by obtaining a smaller confidence area. The interval estimation of parameter ν is also given under progressive Type II censoring. In addition, the predictive intervals of the future observation and the ratio of the two future consecutive failure times based on the progressive Type II censored sample are also proposed. Finally, one example is given to illustrate all interval estimations in this paper.  相似文献

This paper deals with the preliminary test estimation (PTE) of the parameters of the exponential and Pareto distributions in censored samples. The biases, risk functions, efficiency tables and the graphs for the relative efficiency for the proposed estimators for the parameters of the exponential and Pareto distributions are given. We find that the proposed estimators dominate the corresponding unrestricted (usual) estimators in the neighborhood of null hypothesis. The range of the parameters for which the proposed estimators dominate the corresponding usual estimators for different sample sizes and level of significance are given. The findings of the paper will be useful for the practitioners who are dealing with the censored samples in life testing experiments.  相似文献

[Abstract] Based on a single and on two independent samples, joint confidence regions for parameters of Pareto distributions are proposed with minimum volume properties and without assigning the confidence level to dimensions. In the one-sample case, comparisons are made to former simultaneous confidence sets for Pareto parameters by means of simulation and a real data set. The two-sample case is studied in various set-ups and comprises simultaneous confidence regions for the shape parameters, the scale parameters, and higher-dimensional vectors of these parameters, where common shape and common scale models are also considered.  相似文献

The structural probability distribution of the parameters of the two-parameter Weibull distribution is derived directly from considerations of the group structure of its density function. In the process we compare the structural method of inference with the confidence interval approach and reveal their similarities and differences. Structural prediction densities of arbitrary ordered statistics from Weibull distributions are also given to complement a previous work by Bury and Burnholtz.  相似文献

This article considers the problem of testing the validity of the assumption that the underlying distribution of life is Pareto. For complete and censored samples, the relationship between the Pareto and the exponential distributions could be of vital importance to test for the validity of this assumption. For grouped uncensored data the classical Pearson χ2 test based on the multinomial model can be used. Attention is confined in this article to handle grouped data with withdrawals within intervals. Graphical as well as analytical procedures will be presented. Maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of the Pareto distribution based on grouped data will be derived.  相似文献

Suppose two independent observations are drawn from Pareto distributions with known shape parameters and an order restriction on the unknown location parameters. An isotonic regression estimator of the smaller location parameter dominates a preferred marginal estimator under squared error loss, but fails to dominate under stochastic domination. ABSTRACT

In this article, we derive exact explicit expressions for the single, double, triple, and quadruple moments of order statistics from the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD). Also, we obtain the best linear unbiased estimates of the location and scale parameters (BLUE's) of the GPD. We then use these results to determine the mean, variance, and coefficients of skewness and kurtosis of certain linear functions of order statistics. These are then utilized to develop approximate confidence intervals for the generalized Pareto parameters using Edgeworth approximation and compare them with those based on Monte Carlo simulations. To show the usefulness of our results, we also present a numerical example. Finally, we give an application to real data.  相似文献

The Theil, Pietra, Éltetö and Frigyes measures of income inequality associated with the Pareto distribution function are expressed in terms of parameters defining the Pareto distribution. Inference procedures based on the generalized variable method, the large sample method, and the Bayesian method for testing of, and constructing confidence interval for, these measures are discussed. The results of Monte Carlo study are used to compare the performance of the suggested inference procedures from a population characterized by a Pareto distribution.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we assume that the lifetimes have a two-parameter Pareto distribution and discuss some results of progressive Type-II censored sample. We obtain maximum likelihood estimators and Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters under squared error loss and a precautionary loss functions in progressively Type-II censored sample. Robust Bayes estimation of unknown parameters over three different classes of priors under progressively Type-II censored sample, squared error loss, and precautionary loss functions are obtained. We discuss estimation of unknown parameters on competing risks progressive Type-II censoring. Finally, we consider the problem of estimating the common scale parameter of two Pareto distributions when samples are progressively Type-II censored.  相似文献

Recent results in information theory, see Soofi (1996; 2001) for a review, include derivations of optimal information processing rules, including Bayes' theorem, for learning from data based on minimizing a criterion functional, namely output information minus input information as shown in Zellner (1988; 1991; 1997; 2002). Herein, solution post data densities for parameters are obtained and studied for cases in which the input information is that in (1) a likelihood function and a prior density; (2) only a likelihood function; and (3) neither a prior nor a likelihood function but only input information in the form of post data moments of parameters, as in the Bayesian method of moments approach. Then it is shown how optimal output densities can be employed to obtain predictive densities and optimal, finite sample structural coefficient estimates using three alternative loss functions. Such optimal estimates are compared with usual estimates, e.g., maximum likelihood, two-stage least squares, ordinary least squares, etc. Some Monte Carlo experimental results in the literature are discussed and implications for the future are provided.  相似文献

现有的理论中,纯交换帕累托最优状况不是唯一的,且认为只要进行交换就必然能实现帕累托最优。其原因是纯交换帕累托最优条件不充分和交换原则存有缺陷。根据交换是一个讨价还价的过程,采用博弈分析方法,在不完全信息条件下,只要遵循理性人交换原则,交换必能实现,但不一定是帕累托最优。如果信息不对称方所判断的效用函数没有改变对方真实效用函数的偏好性质,交换必然能达到唯一的帕累托最优状况,但利益分割不公平,存在交换剥削;如果效用函数的偏好性质改变,帕累托最优不能实现,而是帕累托改进,但其消费状态也是唯一的。  相似文献

This paper sheds light on the large sample performance of the three stage sam- pling procedure, as it pertains to estimating the scale parameter(s) of the Pareto distribution(s). This group sampling procedure merges the efficiency of the purely sequential procedure of Anscombe (1953) and Chow and Robbins (1965) with substan-tial savings in the number of sampling operations, as noted by Hall (1981). Both its simplicity and its economical features provide visible advantages over the one-by-one sampling as an alternative. In this paper we develop some asymptotic properties for the final stage sample size of the triple stage sampling originated by Hall (1981). These results are used to study both the point and the interval estimation problems for the scale parameters of the Pareto distributions. Since our results are asymptotic in nature, a simulation study is given to discuss the moderate sample size peformance of the proposed procedures.  相似文献

The Pareto distribution is an important distribution in statistics, which has been widely used in finance, physics, hydrology, geology, astronomy, and so on. Even though the parameter estimation for the Pareto distribution has been well established in the literature, the estimation problem for the truncated Pareto distribution becomes complex.
