D-optimal designs are identified in classes of connected block designs with fixed block size when the number of experimental units is one or two more than the minimal number required for the design to be connected. An application of one of these results is made to identify D-optimal designs in a class of minimally connected row-column designs. Graph-theoretic methods are employed to arrive at the optimality results.  相似文献

We present a number of methods of constructing efficiency-balanced binary block designs which are design patterns for simplification of statistical analysis. Furthermore, a method of construction of an efficiency-balanced block design with v+1 treatments from one with v treatments is generally characterized.  相似文献

Two-colour microarray experiments form an important tool in gene expression analysis. Due to the high risk of missing observations in microarray experiments, it is fundamental to concentrate not only on optimal designs but also on designs which are robust against missing observations. As an extension of Latif et al. (2009), we define the optimal breakdown number for a collection of designs to describe the robustness, and we calculate the breakdown number for various D-optimal block designs. We show that, for certain values of the numbers of treatments and arrays, the designs which are D-optimal have the highest breakdown number. Our calculations use methods from graph theory.  相似文献

Kageyama Mohan (1984) have presented three methods of constructing new incomplete block designs from balanced incomplete block designs, They raise questions about the designs which come from each of their methods, These questions are answered, Another series of group divisible designs is derived as a special case of their second method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Nested pairwise efficiency and variance balanced designs form a new class of block designs. In this article, two methods of constructing such designs from a symmetric balanced incomplete block design are proposed with some illustrations.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is systematically to derive the general upper bound for the number of blocks having a given number of treatments common with a given block of certain incomplete block designs. The approach adopted here is based on the spectral decomposition of NN for the incidence matrix N of a design, where N' is the transpose of the matrix N. This approach will lead us to upper bounds for incomplete block designs, in particular for a large number of partially balanced incomplete block (PBIB) designs, which are not covered with the standard approach (Shah 1964, 1966), Kapadia (1966)) of using well known relations between blocks of the designs and their association schemes. Several results concerning block structure of block designs are also derived from the main theorem. Finally, further generalizations of the main theorem are discussed with some illustrations.  相似文献

We consider an experiment with fixed number of blocks, in which a response to a treatment can be affected by treatments from neighboring units. For such experiment the interference model with neighbor effects is studied. Under this model we study connectedness of binary complete block designs. Assuming the circular interference model with left-neighbor effects we give the condition for minimal number of blocks necessary to obtain connected design. For a specified class of binary, complete block designs, we show that all designs are connected. Further we present the sufficient and necessary conditions of connectedness of designs with arbitrary, fixed number of blocks.  相似文献

A good amount of work has been done on the construction of balanced incomplete block (B.I.B.) designs by Bose (1939, 1942), Sprott (1954, 1956), Rao (1961), Takeuchi (1962) and others. Sprott (1954, 1956) obtained several series of B.I.B. designs through difference sets. The main purpose of the present investigation is to provide two methods of construction of B.I.B. designs obtainable through more than one initial block. The first method derives initial blocks of a series of designs from some specified blocks of a B.I.B. design obtainable by developing one or more initial blocks. The second method attempts to obtain one of the initial blocks (the basic initial block) through the different powers of an element of a finite field; then an appropriate method for generating the other initial blocks from it is discussed. A table showing the basic initial block for different designs has been presented. By these methods several solutions of some B.I.B. designs could be obtained from different initial blocks. An examination was therefore made to see if these designs were all isomorphic.  相似文献

This paper presents further results on a class of designs called equineighboured designs, ED. These designs are intended for field and related experiments, especially whenever there is evidence that observations in the same block are correlated. An ED has the property that every unordered pair of treatments occurs as nearest neighbours equally frequently at each level. Ipinyomi (1986) has defined and shown that ED are balanced designs when neighbouring observations are correlated. He has also presented ED as a continuation of the development of optimal block designs. An ED would often require many times the number of experimental materials needed for the construction of an ordinary balanced incomplete block, BIB, design for the same number of treatments and block sizes. Thus for a relatively large number of treatments and block sizes the required minimum number of blocks may be excessively large for practical use of ED. In this paper we shall define and examine partially equineighboured designs with n concurrences, PED (n), as alternatives where ED are practically unachievable. Particular attention will be given to designs with smaller numbers of blocks and for which only as little balance as possible may be lost.  相似文献

A large number of incomplete block designs for Griffing's complete diallel cross-systems I, II and III, involving from five to 12 lines, are suggested, using two-associate triangular partially balanced incomplete block designs. Analysis of incomplete block designs for complete diallel cross-systems has been carried out assuming the most appropriate model for genetic yield, as advocated by Hinklemnann. This includes estimation of the general combining ability, specific combining ability and reciprocal cross- effects. An illustration of the design for each system is presented.  相似文献

A new general class of m-class cyclic association scheme is defined for v treatments, where v is a composite number. A simple method of construction of PBIB designs having this association scheme using more than one initial block and some methods using only one initial block are proposed. A complete analysis of this type of PBIB designs is given. Also given is a list of 39 useful PBIB designs of this type having v≤15 and r≤10 and having only three associate classes together with their efficiency factors for all types of comparisons and over all efficiency factors.  相似文献

This paper draws together bounds for the efficiency factor of block designs, starting with the papers of Conniffe & Stone (1974) and Williams & Patterson (1977). By extending the methods of Jarrett (1983), firstly to cover supercomplete block designs and then to cover resolvable designs, a set of bounds is obtained which provides the best current bounds for any block design with equal replication and equal block size, including resolvable designs and two-replicate resolvable designs as special cases. The bounds given for non-resolvable designs apply strictly only to designs which are either regular-graph (John & Mitchell, 1977) or whose duals are regular-graph. It is conjectured (John & Williams, 1982) that they are in fact global bounds. Similar qualifications apply to the bounds for resolvable designs.  相似文献

In this paper variance balanced incomplete block designs have been constructed for situations when suitable BIB designs do not exist for a given number of treatments, because of the contraints bk=vr, λ(v-1) = r(k-l). These variance balanced designs are in unequal block sizes and unequal replications.  相似文献

Consider block designs with block size of one less than the number of treatments. It is shown that a universally optimal design over the binary class always exists. The construction of these designs is simple. Optimality properties of these designs over the global class are discussed.  相似文献

We consider circular block designs for field-trials when there are two-sided spatial interference between neighbouring plots of the same blocks. The parameter of interest is total effects that is the sum of direct effect of treatment and neighbour effects, which correspond to the use of a single treatment in the whole field. We determine universally optimal approximate designs. When the number of blocks may be large, we propose efficient exact designs generated by a single sequence of treatment. We also give efficiency factors of the usual binary block neighbour balanced designs which can be used when the number of blocks is small.  相似文献

The paper aims to find variance balanced and variance partially balanced incomplete block designs when observations within blocks are autocorrelated and we call them BIBAC and PBIBAC designs. Orthogonal arrays of type I and type II when used as BIBAC designs have smaller average variance of elementary contrasts of treatment effects compared to the corresponding Balanced Incomplete Block (BIB) designs with homoscedastic, uncorrelated errors. The relative efficiency of BIB designs compared to BIBAC designs depends on the block size k and the autocorrelation ρ and is independent of the number of treatments. Further this relative efficiency increases with increasing k. Partially balanced incomplete block designs with autocorrelated errors are introduced using partially balanced incomplete block designs and orthogonal arrays of type I and type II.  相似文献

This paper describes some methods of constructing circular neighbor balanced and circular partially neighbor balanced block designs for estimation of direct and neighbor effects of the treatments. A class of circular neighbor balanced block designs with unequal block sizes is also proposed.  相似文献

Abstract

Constant block-sum designs are of interest in repeated measures experimentation where the treatments levels are quantitative and it is desired that at the end of the experiments, all units have been exposed to the same constant cumulative dose. It has been earlier shown that the constant block-sum balanced incomplete block designs do not exist. As the next choice, we, in this article, explore and construct several constant block-sum partially balanced incomplete block designs. A natural choice is to first explore these designs via magic squares and Parshvanath yantram is found to be especially useful in generating designs for block size 4. Using other techniques such as pair-sums and, circular and radial arrangements, we generate a large number of constant block-sum partially balanced incomplete block designs. Their relationship with mixture designs is explored. Finally, we explore the optimization issues when constant block-sum may not be possible for the class of designs with a given set of parameters.  相似文献

Equirephcate variance-balanced block designs possess many desirable properties and include several important subclasses of designs, such as balanced incomplete block designs. However, while attention has been paid to the derivation of properties and the construction of these designs, methods of analyzing experiments using these designs have not been developed completely. Thus, we consider models appropriate to these designs, construct test statistics for basic hypotheses and derive the distributions for these statistics. Four additive models that include all of the possible combinations of fixed and random effects are examined. The analyses are generalizations of the analyses for balanced incomplete block designs, and include the intra-block, intra-treatment and inter-block analyses, Estimators of fixed treatment effects and their distributions also are given.  相似文献
