In this article, we propose a multiple decision procedure to test the homogeneity of normal variances. If the null-hypothesis is rejected, our goal is to select a subset containing the population associated with the largest variance. An approximation for the critical value is obtained by deriving an approximate distribution for a linear combination of independent log-gamma distributed random variables. A lower bound for the probability of correct decision is obtained. We also study the determination of the common sample size in order to satisfy a given probability of correct decision when the largest variance is “sufficiently” larger than the rest.  相似文献

In this article we consider the problem of estimation of the mean of a univariate normal population with an unknown variance when uncertain nonsample prior information about the mean is available. We compare four estimators of the mean, including pretest and shrinkage estimators. The performances of the estimators are compared based on the multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) procedure in order to find the best estimator.  相似文献

The notion of inverse stochastic dominance is gaining increasing support in risk, inequality, and welfare analysis as a relevant criterion for ranking distributions, which is alternative to the standard stochastic dominance approach. Its implementation rests on comparisons of two distributions’ quantile functions, or of their multiple partial integrals, at fixed population proportions. This article develops a novel statistical inference model for inverse stochastic dominance that is based on the influence function approach. The proposed method allows model-free evaluations that are limitedly affected by contamination in the data. Asymptotic normality of the estimators allows to derive tests for the restrictions implied by various forms of inverse stochastic dominance. Monte Carlo experiments and an application promote the qualities of the influence function estimator when compared with alternative dominance criteria.  相似文献

Several procedures for ranking populations according to the quantile of a given order have been discussed in the literature. These procedures deal with continuous distributions. This paper deals with the problem of selecting a population with the largest α-quantile from k ≥ 2 finite populatins, where the size of each population is known. A selection rule is given based on the sample quantiles, where he samples are drawn without replacement. A formula for the minimum probability of a correct selection for the given rule, for a certain configuration of the population α-quantiles, is given in terms of the sample numbers.  相似文献

An experiment designed to test whether experimenter observation influences play of the ultimatum game led to a comparison of proportions of perfect equilibria obtained under different conditions. Our analysis features a Bayesian approach to this comparison. Our method extends recent work in the nonparametric Bayesian analysis of bioassay problems when the prior constrains the form of the potency curve. Sampling-based approaches to calculating posterior features of interest are used and discussed. We conclude that experimenter observation has a small influence but not enough to account for most of the deviation from perfect-equilibrium play.  相似文献

We used a proper multiple imputation (MI) through Gibbs sampling approach to impute missing values of a gamma distributed outcome variable which were missing at random, using generalized linear model (GLM) with identity link function. The missing values of the outcome variable were multiply imputed using GLM and then the complete data sets obtained after MI were analysed through GLM again for the estimation purpose. We examined the performance of the proposed technique through a simulation study with the data sets having four moderate and large proportions of missing values, 10%, 20%, 30% and 50%. We also applied this technique on a real life data and compared the results with those obtained by applying GLM only on observed cases. The results showed that the proposed technique gave better results for moderate proportions of missing values.  相似文献

This article considers a Bayesian hierarchical model for multiple comparisons in linear models where the population medians satisfy a simple order restriction. Representing the asymmetric Laplace distribution as a scale mixture of normals with an exponential mixing density and a continuous prior restricted to order constraints, a Gibbs sampling algorithm for parameter estimation and simultaneous comparison of treatment medians is proposed. Posterior probabilities of all possible hypotheses on the equality/inequality of treatment medians are estimated using Bayes factors that are computed via the Savage-Dickey density ratios. The performance of the proposed median-based model is investigated in the simulated and real datasets. The results show that the proposed method can outperform the commonly used method that is based on treatment means, when data are from nonnormal distributions.  相似文献

In randomized complete block design, we face the problem of selecting the best population. If some partial information about the unknown parameters is available, then we wish to delermine the optimal decisin rule to select the best population.

In this paper, in the class of natural selection rules, we employ the Γ-optimal criterion to determine optimal decision rules that will minimize the maximum expected risk over the class of some partial information. For decision purpose, one of the commonly used statistical applications is the comparison of two or more objects or characteristics. Sometimes, it is not possible to compare the objects at a time or when the number of objects under study is large and the differences between the objects become small, then a useful way is to compare them in pairwise manner. Because of its practical nature, the fields in which paired comparison techniques are being used are numerous. Many Bayesian statisticians have focused their attention on the practical and usable paired comparison technique and have successfully performed the Bayesian study of many of the paired comparison models. In the current study, analysis of the amended Davidson model (ADM) which has been extended after incorporating the order effect parameter is narrated. For this intention, both the informative and non informative priors are used. The said model is studied for the case of four treatments which are compared pairwise.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a unified sequentially rejective test procedure for testing simultaneously the equality of several independent binomial proportions to a specified standard. The proposed test procedure is general enough to include some well-known multiple testing procedures such as the Ordinary Bonferroni procedure, Hochberg procedure and Rom procedure. It involves multiple tests of significance based on the simple binomial tests (exact or approximate) which can be easily found in many elementary standard statistics textbooks. Unlike the traditional Chi-square test of the overall hypothesis, the procedure can identify the subset of the binomial proportions, which are different from the prespecified standard with the control of the familywise type I error rate. Moreover, the power computation of the procedure is provided and the procedure is illustrated by two real examples from an ecological study and a carcinogenicity study.  相似文献

Two questions of interest involving nonparametric multiple comparisons are considered. The first question concerns whether it is appropriate to use a multiple comparison procedure as a test of the equality of k treatments, and if it is, which procedure performs best as a test. Our results show that for smaller k values some multiple comparison procedures perform well as tests. The second question concerns whether a joint ranking or a separate ranking multiple comparison procedure performs better as a test and as a device for treatment separation. We find that the joint ranking procedure does slightly better as a test, but for treatment separation the answer depends on the situation.  相似文献

Ranked set sampling (RSS) design as a cost-effective sampling is a powerful tool in situations where measuring the variable of interest is costly and time-consuming; however, ranking information about sampling units can be obtained easily through inexpensive and easy to measure characteristics at little or no cost. In this paper, we study RSS data for analysis of an ordinal population. First, we compare the problem of non-representative extreme samples under RSS and commonly-used simple random sampling. Using RSS data with tie information, we propose non-parametric and maximum likelihood estimators for population parameters. Through extensive numerical studies, we investigate the effect of various factors including ranking ability, tie generating mechanisms, the number of categories and population setting on the performance of the estimators. Finally, we apply the proposed methods to the bone disorder data to estimate the proportions of patients with osteopenia and osteoporosis status.  相似文献

In this paper, a one-stage multiple comparison procedures with the average for exponential location parameters based on the doubly censored sample under heteroscedasticity is proposed. These intervals can be used to identify a subset which includes all no-worse-than-the-average treatments in an experimental design and to identify better-than-the-average, worse-than-the-average and not-much-different-from-the-average products in agriculture, emerging market, pharmaceutical industries. The critical values are tabulated in a table for practical use. A simulation study on the confidence length and coverage probabilities is done. At last, an example of comparing four drugs in the treatment of leukemia is given to demonstrate the proposed procedures.  相似文献

In the presence of missing values, researchers may be interested in the rates of missing information. The rates of missing information are (a) important for assessing how the missing information contributes to inferential uncertainty about, Q, the population quantity of interest, (b) are an important component in the decision of the number of imputations, and (c) can be used to test model uncertainty and model fitting. In this article I will derive the asymptotic distribution of the rates of missing information in two scenarios: the conventional multiple imputation (MI), and the two-stage MI. Numerically I will show that the proposed asymptotic distribution agrees with the simulated one. I will also suggest the number of imputations needed to obtain reliable missing information rate estimates for each method, based on the asymptotic distribution.  相似文献

Experience has shown us that when data are pooled from multiple studies to create an integrated summary, an analysis based on naïvely‐pooled data is vulnerable to the mischief of Simpson's Paradox. Using the proportions of patients with a target adverse event (AE) as an example, we demonstrate the Paradox's effect on both the comparison and the estimation of the proportions. While meta analytic approaches have been recommended and increasingly used for comparing safety data between treatments, reporting proportions of subjects experiencing a target AE based on data from multiple studies has received little attention. In this paper, we suggest two possible approaches to report these cumulative proportions. In addition, we urge that regulatory guidelines on reporting such proportions be established so that risks can be communicated in a scientifically defensible and balanced manner. Relative poverty lines are increasingly being used in poverty comparison studies. Existing methods assume that the distributions being compared are distinct with independent relative poverty lines. However, this practice may be problematic when comparing two subgroups of a population. We follow up on a recent proposal for the usage of common relative poverty lines in such cases, and develop a test for comparing poverty between subgroups of a single population, using inequality restrictions. Monte Carlo experiments are conducted in order to examine the size and power of our proposed test. We illustrate our procedure using some U.S. household income data.  相似文献

When the null hypothesis of Friedman’s test is rejected, there is a wide variety of multiple comparisons that can be used to determine which treatments differ from each other. We will discuss the contexts where different multiple comparisons should be applied, when the population follows some discrete distributions commonly used to model count data in biological and ecological fields. Our simulation study shows that sign test is very conservative. Fisher’s LSD and Tukey’s HSD tests computed with ranks are the most liberal. Theoretical considerations are illustrated with data of the Azores Buzzard (Buteo buteo rothschildi) population from Azores, Portugal.  相似文献
