This article proposes a simple nonparametric method to estimate the jump characteristics in asset price with noisy high-frequency data. We combine the pre-averaging approach and the threshold technique to identify the jumps, and then propose the pre-averaging threshold estimators for the number and sizes of jumps occurred. We further present the asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators. The Monte Carlo simulation shows that the estimators are robust to microstructure noise and work very well especially when the data frequency is ultra-high. Finally, an empirical example further demonstrates the power of the proposed method.  相似文献

Wavelet Threshold Estimators for Data with Correlated Noise   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Wavelet threshold estimators for data with stationary correlated noise are constructed by applying a level-dependent soft threshold to the coefficients in the wavelet transform. A variety of threshold choices is proposed, including one based on an unbiased estimate of mean-squared error. The practical performance of the method is demonstrated on examples, including data from a neurophysiological context. The theoretical properties of the estimators are investigated by comparing them with an ideal but unattainable `bench-mark', that can be considered in the wavelet context as the risk obtained by ideal spatial adaptivity, and more generally is obtained by the use of an `oracle' that provides information that is not actually available in the data. It is shown that the level-dependent threshold estimator performs well relative to the bench-mark risk, and that its minimax behaviour cannot be improved on in order of magnitude by any other estimator. The wavelet domain structure of both short- and long-range dependent noise is considered, and in both cases it is shown that the estimators have near optimal behaviour simultaneously in a wide range of function classes, adapting automatically to the regularity properties of the underlying model. The proofs of the main results are obtained by considering a more general multivariate normal decision theoretic problem.  相似文献

We present families of nonparametric estimators for the conditional tail index of a Pareto-type distribution in the presence of random covariates. These families are constructed from locally weighted sums of power transformations of excesses over a high threshold. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are derived under some assumptions on the conditional response distribution, the weight function and the density function of the covariates. We also introduce bias-corrected versions of the estimators for the conditional tail index, and propose in this context a consistent estimator for the second-order tail parameter. The finite sample performance of some specific examples from our classes of estimators is illustrated with a small simulation experiment.  相似文献

Wavelet shrinkage estimation is an increasingly popular method for signal denoising and compression. Although Bayes estimators can provide excellent mean-squared error (MSE) properties, the selection of an effective prior is a difficult task. To address this problem, we propose empirical Bayes (EB) prior selection methods for various error distributions including the normal and the heavier-tailed Student t -distributions. Under such EB prior distributions, we obtain threshold shrinkage estimators based on model selection, and multiple-shrinkage estimators based on model averaging. These EB estimators are seen to be computationally competitive with standard classical thresholding methods, and to be robust to outliers in both the data and wavelet domains. Simulated and real examples are used to illustrate the flexibility and improved MSE performance of these methods in a wide variety of settings.  相似文献

We consider estimation of a class of power-transformed threshold GARCH models. When the power of the transformation is known, the asymptotic properties of the quasi-maximum likelihood estimator (QMLE) are established under mild conditions. Two sequences of least-squares estimators are also considered in the pure ARCH case, and it is shown that they can be asymptotically more accurate than the QMLE for certain power transformations. In the case where the power of the transformation has to be estimated, the asymptotic properties of the QMLE are proven under the assumption that the noise has a density. The finite-sample properties of the proposed estimators are studied by simulation.  相似文献

动态面板阈模型可以刻画经济变量动态调整过程的非对称性,在实证分析中有广泛的运用,但阈值参数的引入同时增加了参数估计的困难,理论上尚有许多问题没有解决。针对此类模型,本文提出了一种简单而实用的序贯两步估计方法,首先利用格点搜索获得阈值参数的一致估计,基于该参数对数据结构进行合理划分并引入不同类型的矩条件,然后利用广义矩方法获得自回归参数的估计。理论研究与模拟结果表明,序贯两步估计具有良好的大样本性质和有限样本表现;与现有文献的方法相比,序贯两步估计能够有效避免不同类型参数估计偏差的相互影响,减小估计量的偏差与均方根误差。  相似文献

In this paper we propose a hybrid hazard regression model with threshold stress which includes the proportional hazards and the accelerated failure time models as particular cases. To express the behavior of lifetimes the generalized-gamma distribution is assumed and an inverse power law model with a threshold stress is considered. For parameter estimation we develop a sampling-based posterior inference procedure based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. We assume proper but vague priors for the parameters of interest. A simulation study investigates the frequentist properties of the proposed estimators obtained under the assumption of vague priors. Further, some discussions on model selection criteria are given. The methodology is illustrated on simulated and real lifetime data set.  相似文献

In this article, we use the peaks over random threshold (PORT)-methodology, and consider Hill and moment PORT-classes of extreme value index estimators. These classes of estimators are invariant not only to changes in scale, like the classical Hill and moment estimators, but also to changes in location. They are based on the sample of excesses over a random threshold, the order statistic X [np]+1:n , 0 ≤ p < 1, being p a tuning parameter, which makes them highly flexible. Under convenient restrictions on the underlying model, these classes of estimators are consistent and asymptotically normal for adequate values of k, the number of top order statistics used in the semi-parametric estimation of the extreme value index γ. In practice, there may however appear a stability around a value distant from the target γ when the minimum is chosen for the random threshold, and attention is drawn for the danger of transforming the original data through the subtraction of the minimum. A new bias-corrected moment estimator is also introduced. The exact performance of the new extreme value index PORT-estimators is compared, through a large-scale Monte-Carlo simulation study, with the original Hill and moment estimators, the bias-corrected moment estimator, and one of the minimum-variance reduced-bias (MVRB) extreme value index estimators recently introduced in the literature. As an empirical example we estimate the tail index associated to a set of real data from the field of finance.  相似文献

It is often critical to accurately model the upper tail behaviour of a random process. Nonparametric density estimation methods are commonly implemented as exploratory data analysis techniques for this purpose and can avoid model specification biases implied by using parametric estimators. In particular, kernel-based estimators place minimal assumptions on the data, and provide improved visualisation over scatterplots and histograms. However kernel density estimators can perform poorly when estimating tail behaviour above a threshold, and can over-emphasise bumps in the density for heavy tailed data. We develop a transformation kernel density estimator which is able to handle heavy tailed and bounded data, and is robust to threshold choice. We derive closed form expressions for its asymptotic bias and variance, which demonstrate its good performance in the tail region. Finite sample performance is illustrated in numerical studies, and in an expanded analysis of the performance of global climate models.  相似文献

The usual maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters of the von Mises distribution are shown to perform badly in small samples. In view of this and the fact that these estimators require a large amount of computation, alternative, simpler estimators are proposed. It is shown that these estimators are at least comparable to the traditional estimators and are, in many cases, superior to them. We also apply the procedure of jackknifing to the maximum likelihood estimator of the concentration parameter of the von Mises distribution and compare the properties of the jackknifed estimator with the other estimators considered in this paper.  相似文献

The estimation of the finite population mean in successive occasions is investigated with calibration estimators in this article. We propose several estimators based on calibration techniques with arbitrary sampling design in each of the occasions. Asymptotic variance formulaes are derived for the proposed estimators. In this article, we have suggested some classes of estimators for estimating finite population median using information on an auxiliary variable. To study the properties of suggested classes of estimators under large sample approximation, a generalized class of estimators has been suggested with its properties. It has been shown that the suggested classes of estimators are more efficient than other existing estimators. The results have been illustrated through an empirical study.  相似文献

Nonparametric regression is considered where the sample point placement is not fixed and equispaced, but generated by a random process with rate n. Conditions are found for the random processes that result in optimal rates of convergence for nonparametric regression when using a block thresholded wavelet estimator. Previous results on nonparametric regression via wavelets on both fixed and random sample point placement are shown to be special cases of the general result given here. The estimator is adaptive over a large range of Hölder function spaces and the convergence rate exhibited is an improvement over term-by-term wavelet estimators. Threshold selection is implemented in a data-adaptive fashion, rather than using a fixed threshold as is usually done in block thresholding. This estimator, BlockSure, is compared against fixed-threshold block estimators and the more traditional term-by-term threshold wavelet estimators on several random design schemes via simulations.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new family of robust estimators for ARMA models. These estimators are defined by replacing the residual sample autocovariances in the least squares equations by autocovariances based on ranks. The asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators is provided. The efficiency and robustness properties of these estimators are studied. An adequate choice of the score functions gives estimators which have high efficiency under normality and robustness in the presence of outliers. The score functions can also be chosen so that the resulting estimators are asymptotically as efficient as the maximum likelihood estimators for a given distribution.  相似文献

For two-dimensional spatial autoregressive (AR) models, asymptotic properties of the spatial Yule-Walker (YW) estimators (Tjøstheim, 1978) are studied. These estimators although consistent, are shown to be asymptotically biased. Estimators from the first-order spatial bilateral AR model are looked at in more detail and the spatial YW estimators for this model are compared with the exact maximum likelihood estimators. Small sample properties of both estimators are also discussed briefly and some simulation results are presented.  相似文献

Ridge estimators are usually examined through Monte Carlo simulations since their properties are difficult to obtain analytically. In this paper we argue that a simulation design commonly used in the literature will give biased results of Monte Carlo simulations in favor of ridge regression over ordinary least square estimators. Specifically, it is argued that the properties of ridge estimators that are functions of p distinct regressor eigenvalues should not be evaluated through Monte Carlo designs using only two distinct eigenvalues.  相似文献

In this paper, we deal with the problem of estimating the delayed renewal and variance functions in delayed renewal processes. Two parametric plug-in estimators for these functions are proposed and their unbiasedness, asymptotic unbiasedness and consistency properties are investigated. The asymptotic normality of these estimators are established. Further, a method for the computation of the estimators is given. Heavy-tailed distributions have been used to model phenomena in which extreme events occur with high probability. In these type of occurrences, it is likely that extreme events are not observable after a certain threshold. Appropriate estimators are needed to deal with this type of censored data. We show that the well-known Hill-Hall estimator is unable to deal with censored data and yields highly biased estimates. We propose and study an unbiased modified maximum likelihood estimator, as well as a truncated tail regression estimator. We assess the expected value and the variance of these estimators in the cases of stable- and Pareto-distributed data.  相似文献

In this paper, the problem of estimating the mean vector under non-negative constraints on location vector of the multivariate normal distribution is investigated. The value of the wavelet threshold based on Stein''s unbiased risk estimators is calculated for the shrinkage estimator in restricted parameter space. We suppose that covariance matrix is unknown and we find the dominant class of shrinkage estimators under Balance loss function. In this article, we consider estimating the bivariate cause-specific distribution function when both components are subject to double censoring. We propose two types of estimators as generalizations of the Dabrowska and Campbell and Földes estimators. The asymptotical properties of the proposed estimators are established.
