Chinese Nation Joins in Jubilation for Hong Kong's Return

On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong finally returns to the motherland. July 1 was a day of Chinese national pride. Looking back, Hong Kong experienced great changes and the Chinese nation was subjected to humiliation during the 156 years. The Chinese nation had expected and made unremitting efforts to become stronger for more than 100 years. After resuming sovereignty over Hong Kong, the Chinese government will bring a brighter future to Hong Kong under the policies of "one country, two systems," and "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong, with a high degree of autonomy." Hong Kong and the mainland will conduct more economic and cultural exchanges and create a more splendid future for the motherland.     

Four Outstanding Women Visit Hong Kong

ON March 2, four of the "Ten Outstanding Chinese Women" of 1995, joined the delegation of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) on its visit to Hong Kong, and delivered speeches to more than 500 Hong Kong women. They visited Hong Kong with the ACWF delegation at the invitation of women's organizations in Hong Kong.

At the invitation of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), a 52-member delegation of the Hong Kong Federation of Women visited Beijing from May 23-26, 2007. Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and ACWF President, greeted the visitors. The Hong Kong delegation, through ACWF, made three donations: One each to two vocational schools, and the other to the fund to construct a swimming center. During their stay, the women also visited several ministries and commissions under the State Council, the Central Government's cabinet, and they provided details of their work and the various activities, hosted by Hong Kong women from all walks of life, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.     

Hong Kong Fashions

Fashion in Hong Kong has quickly developed. In the 1980s the Hong Kong Developing Bureau started holding the Hong Kong International Fashion Festival. This promoted development in the manufacturing and processing of the garment trade, making Hong Kong the garment center of Southeast Asia.     

Friendship as Sisters

AFTER more than 100 years of constant change, Hong Kong has finally returned to the motherland. Looking toward at this special occasion, we cannot forget the past events between the women of the mainland and those of Hong Kong. Since September 26, 1984, when the Sino-British Joint Declaration was signed in Beijing, the women from these two areas have made efforts for Hong Kong's smooth return and stable transition. As the biggest women's organization on the mainland, the All-China Women's Federation has been in close contact with the women of Hong Kong, increasing mutual understanding as well as deepening feelings of sisterhood.

It is my pleasure to be here in Hong Kong at the Beijing ＋ 15 Forum of Status of Women amid the elegance and charm of China＇s Pearl of the Orient, and to have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the women of Hong Kong their good works. With Senior Women Officials

IN early May when flowers were blooming, 37 senior women officials of 16 nationalities from 14 provinces and autonomous regions were invited by Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation Limited to attend the Seventh Seminar for the Senior Officials of the Minorities' Autonomous Prefectures in China. I was also invited as an ethnic women's affairs worker at the All-China Women's Federation. This was the first time I had been with s many senior women officials. They didn't know each other, yet the first day they met they sat together, introducing themselves     

So Man-yee's Design Work

SO Man-yee started to learn Western painting in1971. In 1973 she graduated from the Linhai ArtSchool in Hong Kong after spending three yearsstudying commercial design. After leaving the schoolshe started work with advertisement agencies. Thatexperience prepared her for further development inthe design field. Joint Exhibition of Women Painters from Beijing and Hong Kong

Hong Kong's return to China is another supreme symbol of peace and dignity. Celebrating this historical occasion, Beijing Women Painters' Association and Hong Kong Contemporary Women Painters' Association held a joint exhibition in Beijing, providing women painters from Hong Kong and the mainland an opportunity to learn from each other. Over more than a century time has brought great changes to the world. The Chinese women's profound love and pursuit of a unified culture for the Chinese nation makes their arts all the more splendid.

Two Young Women Across China

On March 8, 1995, Wu Qi and Pu Yuyan headed out from Guangzhou with a plan to travel all across China. During the 1,277 days from March 8, 1995 to August 8, 1998, they left their footprints in the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities of the mainland as well as Hong Kong and Macao, with Taiwan the only exclusion From Mohe, Heilongjiang in the far north to Sanya, Hainan in the far south. From Fuyuan, Heilongjiang in the east to Xinjiang's Tuergate Port in the extreme west. The whole route was approximately 150,000 km (including 4,732 km on foot and 8,410 by bike). They took more than 30,000 pictures, finished 100 sketches and wrote a travelogue of 1.2 million characters;A collection of their works: The Fragrance of the Rain from Heaven was published and their book We Walk BetweenHeaven and Earth will be out soon.
