In August 2006, Peters, who had once worked as an artist and a teacher in the US, traveled to China. Why? She was searching for a magical coat, which she had seen in a book about textiles when she was a student in Paris. She eventually found the coat in Guizhou, and she quickly realized it was an item of the Miao ethnic groups' traditional clothing. Peters met many Miao people in Guizhou, and she was fascinated by the minority group's history, culture and beautifully made crafts, such as the batik-dyed clothes.  相似文献

YAN Cailing lives on the Loess Plateau in northwestern China. In spite of her lightheartedness and cheer, she actually leads an uneasy life. At 37,she has three children. Nie Li Admitted to the Standing Committee of NPC Nie Li, the first woman lieutenant general of China, was voted in by election as a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee in March at the Second Session of the Eighth NPC. ZHAO Yan, a top accounting student at the Correspondence College of People's University of China, Beijing Branch, was an employee of the Sino U.S. joint INTEL Computer company. In her spare time, she completed the curriculum for two subjects—economy and trade, and accounting. In addition, in her first secretarial speciality, she held three diplomas. This ambitious 25-year old woman had just left the INTEL Company, where she had worked four years. In her own words, she intended to start her own business. Wei Xiuying was born in Ruijin, Jiangxi Province. She joined the Communist Party of China in 1932, and served as directorfor Xingguo County Soviet Government Committee for the Improvement of Women's Life, and secretary in charge of women's work in Jiangxi Province.In October 1934, Wei Xiuying took part in the 25,000-li Long March with the Central Red Army.After liberation, she served as the first-term director of the Jiangxi Women's Federation. In the early 50s, it was she who first found that schistosomiasis was serious in Yujiang County, and reported this condition in a report to the National People's Congress. The very day Chairman Mao Zedong saw this report, he gave the order "eliminate this plague". Wei Xiuying was appointed as the deputy head for South China Land Reclamation and Cultivation Bureau in charge of the development of Hainan Island. TENG Youlian, a Miao woman and the chief director of the Meteorological Bureau of Mayang County, Hunan, is one of the most reliable people in the area. The local people affectionately refer to Teng as "the woman who manages weather," because she and her meteorological bureau can forecast weather precisely, and predict rainstorms and floods in advance. Several times, they have been able to greatly reduce the losses for Mayang County caused by disastrous floods. Though only a junior high school graduate, and one who had never formally learned meteorology, Teng studied very hard to gain practical knowledge after she transferred to the meteorological bureau in 1969; gradually, she became familiar with the work.
